De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #139 - Tuesday 7/22

De que sobrevivió un día más, sobrevivió un día más.
El Refrito
  • Rodrigo wishes Vicente was dead.
  • Carmen beats El with plush flowers, but melts at his flowery words.
  • Tiburcio gets his therapy
  • Irene and Tad get a report on Vicente.
  • Lala reports on Ticurcio's progress.
  • Vicente sees the error of his ways and asks forgiveness. Irene forgives him. Vicente asks to see Natalia.
Lo Nuevo
Carmen prepares for her date with Eleazar. Natalia approves and agrees to watch Lupita.

Morales investigates Rosa's anonymous tip. He asks the Internet Cafe manager for a description of the person. It's a vague description. Morales instructs the man to find out her name if she comes in again and call him ASAP. He also asks him to print the history.

El waits for Carmen and he's nervous as a teenager. Carmen arrives and asks where they are going. El tells her that one time when they were kids she said she wanted to go where he's taking her. She is amazed that he remembers something she said so long ago. Aw! El is a closet romantic! They get their own theme song, too (Me enamoré by La Klave Version Balad)

Natalia babysits Lupita. Lupita is disappointed Carmen is not coming. She wanted some barrettes she saw earlier. Lupita interrogates Natalia and wants to know if she's going to forgive Diego. Paolo showed her the video on the internet. Everyone wants to know if Natalia is going to forgive Diego. Natalia has no desire to forgive him.

Brigitte convinces a security guard to let her in the conference. She gives him a sob story about being a poor medical student from Tuxpan. His wife is from Tuxpan, too! He lets her through. I bet the low cut neckline and extremely high hemline helped, too.

Carmen's dream date is at Xochimilco with a serenade (it sounded a little off-key to me, but I am NOT musically inclined at all.)  A little cursi. I'm trying to cut them some slack since they've delayed this date since they were teens.

Brigitte is thrilled to see the Mushroom Man. Mushroom Man is not too happy.

Irene tells Tad that Vicente asked for forgiveness. Tad thinks it's a good thing that Irene forgave her father. They go to get Natalia.

Brigitte continues to try to charm her father. Not a day has gone by that she didn't think of him. She prayed that she would get to meet him. Monsieur Chamignon stammers that he isn't ready to meet her and rudely asks her to leave.

Natalia watches the Diego video. Irene calls and invites her and Lupita to lunch.

Brigitte cries. Mr. Mushroom has to think about his talk at the conference right now, but later...okay? Brigitte tries to get a firm date for "después", but fails. He finally has to physically push her out the door.

Abdul and Mali visit Papá Juancho and tell him about the upcoming nuptials. The date is so soon, that Papá Juancho wonders if they *have* to get married. Abdul assures him that's not the case. They want to have the party in the church hall (did I get that right?) and Papá Juancho agrees and talks to them about premarital counseling.

Brigitte laments having played her hand to soon and thinks she should have waited for the Mushroom to come to her. Meanwhile, the Mushroom continues to lament that he is not prepared to talk to her yet. He needs more time. MUCHO MÁS tiempo. (Ok. Brat is a sourpuss, but I don't like the thought of anyone being rejected by a parent and I fear this is the road the writers are traveling.) Mr. Mushroom wonders if what he's feeling is "the call of the blood."

Irene and Tad tell Natalia that Vicente wants to see her. Natalia is not sure if she wants to see him. Irene doesn't pressure her.

El, Carmen and La Klave continue on their date. I'm not sold on the bike ride. El's refusal to dance and Carmen's convincing was cute.

After attending the conference with the Mushroom, Alonso wants to adjust Tiburcio's meds. He calls Lala with instructions that Diego will be bringing new meds. It's urgent that Tiburcio recovers his speech.

Carmen and El return home from their date. The relationship gets the Lupita seal of approval.

Irene and Tad discuss Vicente's desire to see Natalia. They both understand if she doesn't want to see him. Irene calls Rodrigo to tell him Vicente is not dead yet.

Natalia tells Carmen about Vicente's desire to see her. Carmen thinks Vicente is near the end and wants to make amends, but it's Natalia's decision.

Diego is visiting Vicente. Vicente looks tired so Diego leaves to let him rest. Rod is lurking and sneaks into the room. Vicente's monitors start beeping. Rod tells him he'll take good care of Caprico and starts fiddling with machines. Vicente's vitals begin to fall...

Natalia arrives at the hospital and runs into Diego. He tries to be civil and really she's a little snot. She is never going to forgive him. Ever. Now I WANT Diego and Laura Carmine's character together. Hey, writers...ur doin it rong.

...And Vicente's vitals continue to fall. Natalia walks in and Rod is forced to act like there's an emergency. Medical staff rush in and ask Rod and Nat to leave. Outside, Nat is more pleasant to Rod than she just was to Diego. At least she calls Diego and tells him to come back.

Carmen and El tell Luz they are officially an item. Luz is pleased but hopes that they don't ruin the wonderful friendship they had. El tell his mom it's twue wuv.

They were able to resuscitate Vicente. He's sedated. Rod is not happy about that. Diego finds it odd that he left Vicente looking ok, but when Rod comes Vicente goes south. Rod leaves. Diego doubts Rod. If he can kill Alberto, he could kill Vicente as well. Natalia turns down his offer to take her home.

Abdul and Paolo discuss the honeymoon. Abdul doesn't have much money and Paolo offers some of his savings. Awww! I love you Paolo. Lupita informs them of Carmen and El, who conveniently arrive. Abdul and Paolo play macho men of the house and mess with El. What a precious scene. They are happy for their mom, but they won't call El "dad." Laughs all around.

Brigitte comes home and acts like a turd.

Rod kvetches about Vicente still being alive.

El makes a beautiful speech about loving Carmen forever. He promises to do everything to make her happy. La Klave plays on.

Natalia is happy for Carmen. They talk about seeing Diego at the hospital. Natalia is Andres' novia now and she needs to remember that, but it's hard when Diego is being charming. She says she needs to keep reminding herself of jealous and distrusting Diego.
Morales continues his investigation and asks a guard at Caprico which employees fit the description he's got. The guard informs him that only two ladies match that description and he gives Morales their full names. Morales asks the guard not to say anything. I have now idea why Kimberly is doing a ride along. With the full names Morales can get their picture from some government (I assume) database and ask the internet cafe manager to ID the anonymous tipster.

Brigitte worries that Mr. Mushroom will leave Mexico without taking her with him to France. She's had it with this life of poverty.

The internet cafe manager IDs Rosa.

Tiburcio moves his hand. Rodrigo comes in and Tib recites the vowels. Rod tells him the minute Grumps dies, he's kicking Tib and his wife out on the street. Rod leaves. Tiburcio laboriously spits out A-SE-SI-NO.

Rosa  is approached by Morales.  Rosa made the tip anonymously because Rod is threatening her. Morales understands. He needs some information so he can investigate. Rosa remembers Banco Wannabe in the Cayman Islands. Morales assures her he knows Rodrigo well and he will not give up until Rod is rotting in jail.

While Irene isn't looking, Tad gets dizzy and clutches the wall. Irene notices he's a little "off" and he chalks it up to the strong solvents in his studio. He's still working on that mysterious picture. Ok. It looks like Tad is doomed. I can live with that, but so help me if she ends up with Frat Boy....

Rosa hands Rodrigo her resignation. He's wanting a younger secretary anyway. He wants to pay her a severance so she'll stay quiet. One less worry for him.

Avances
  • Abdul's wedding
  • Andres' proposal

Nat was really a witch to Diego. This is the first time that I can recall that I am fine with the idea of galan ending up with someone else.

Hi Sara. I'm looking forward to your recap. I liked El and Carmen's date. After all their mishaps they should take things slow. What had me very vexed was Tad's relapse. If writers think its ok that Grumps lives and Tad dies they are so dead to me!!

The other unfortunate development is the tn equation Kat pointed out. Nat forgiving Diego does not mean she has to date him again. I don't like how tn's usually put women in a position where their forgiveness means allowing an abusive person back in their lives as a close family member (see Gracie's kids on Robo) or lover.

Recap is up.

I don't mean to sound cold, but I think Grumps is going to kick the bucket because we have that little tidbit about the will. If Grumps doesn't die, the will tampering doesn't get found out.

Now, I have NO IDEA why they went to the trouble of giving Tad a bone marrow transplant if they were just going to kill him off. I am NOT pleased.

Sara, ITA w/Tad. I'm glad he's gotten time w/Nat but to take him away because he's inconvenient, specifically so Irene can get together with that worthless frat boy, is horrible.

As always your recap was great!! And yes, Brat is horrible but no one needs to be rejected like that by his/her father.

I will need to remind myself that Brat is just wanting Mushroom's money. I guess I fell for her tears.

Gracias, Sara! Me too, me too! I don't want Nat and Diego to end up together. Too much baggage. Just let Nat make Andres miserable for the rest of his life like he's always wanted and Diego can have the sexy textile engineer. If she wants him.

I love that Lupita didn't actually say she wanted Nat to forgive Diego, just that she likes him and he does "funny stuff." Hahaha...make him dance for me, Nat...make him bungee jump!

"Brigitte comes home and acts like a turd." Ugh, yeah, she did. And practically shoved Lupita away from her. Why did I ever give Brig the benefit of any doubt? Snotty, selfish little turd! She can whine about Natalia all she wants, but Lupita never did anything to her.

It was nice to see Carmen and El getting all flirty, at last!

I don't know whether to trust Tad when he says he's just dizzy from smelling paint thinner. I thought it was suspicious.

The ominous music that accompanied the stumble makes me think it wasn't just the paint thinner.

Thank you so much, Sara!!

You are not being cold about Grumps, but I hate the thought that Rod is the one responsible for him leaving this world.

The best part of the whole evening was El and Carmen. It made me so happy to watch them and to hear them talk to each other with such kind words.

The downer was the possibility that we might lose Tad. I really hate that thought.

Thank you again, Sara!

Fatima

Sara- I decided to watch this recording when I got home. I very much enjoyed El and Carmen getting to live out the date they planned in their adolescence. For a guy who thought he was incapable of saying mushy stuff, El sure found his romantic groove tonight. Good for him!

Once again, it's always nice to see all the Garcias together...until Brigitte shows up. I enjoyed seeing her get the shaft from her (sugar) daddy.

Was purple the it color tonight? Nat, Irene, and Carmen were all wearing purple dresses.

These writers are incredibly cruel if they saved Tad, only to strike him down again. Damn them!

I do love it when they color-coordinate :D

As for Kimmy and her ride along-- I guess she decided if you can't beat them, join them.

And all the ladies look great in purple, too.

I've really liked the costuming in the Suarez productions I've seen. Very bright and cheery.

Kimmy in the car with Morales was cute! Mr. 5ft was wondering if Morales would send her in undercover.

I love the dresses the ladies wear, I just think it would be such a hassle to have to have someone zip me up all the time. I even like some of Brigitte's dresses, I just wouldn't feel comfortable in something that has to be glued to my body so I don't get arrested for public indecency! Tonight's red lace dress...a little more breathing room, a few more inches on the bottom, and a less-plunging neckline and I would totally wear that.

Sara, Hey, writers...ur doin it rong. My thoughts exactly!

How dare the writers play god with Tad just so Irene can offer her leg to the humper with a clear conscience. Daddy dies, hubby dies and to fill the testosterone void a punk too big for his britches.

Loved the purple dresses on the girls and Nat's the most. Guess Andres let her use his charge card.

Brigitte - wear something a little more conservative when meeting your daddy, ok hon

Paul - you created a monster

Diego - that ain't a cold shoulder, but an iceberg

Morlas - you may actually be good at this

Kimmy - can we turn on the siren & flashing lights

El - "Saturday in the park, I think it the 4th of July"

Carmen - El looks good on you

Mali - "goin' to the chapel and we're gonna get married"

Hot Rod - That's alright, that's ok, he's gonna die, anyway

PJ - playing loose and fast with the rules

Tiburcio - I know what you did last summer

Hi, Sara,

Thanks for this fun recap. Lots of weird stuff last night: Kim with Morales on the case; Nat interrupting Rod killing Grumps; El becoming the poetic galan for Carmen.

I am confused about the medication Al has directed Lala to use on Mr. T. If this is a new medication, how did Al get some of it? You can't typically go to the corner pharmacy and buy medications that have just been discovered and are being investigated.

And Dr. Mushroom Head: Like Einstein, the cuddly genius that the whole world loves, but who can't/doesn't want to have personal commitments.

I almost feel sorry for Brat looking for her birth daddy, but her motives sour the whole scenario; turd is an apt title for her.

Nat and Diego: Oh boy! Gonna take a bit longer for this to develop.

I think Tad is toast, and has been from day one. He is a nice guy, probably the best for Irene, but he doesn't fit into the writer's plot. Also, although he has done so much for Irene, he just doesn't float Irene's boat.

Lupita - winning on all fronts.

They fired the CC B-team and the CC were again synchronized and understandable last night, thank God.

Thanks again Sara for you hard work.

David

Paolo and Abdul were adorable as the pretended to demand that El ask their permission to date their mom.

I thought the guard was rather respectful towards Brat. Even though he had prime view of her cleavage, he kept his eyes on her face, he never turned around to take a peek at her ASSets as she headed up the stairs, and he seemed more flattered than turned on by the kiss she gave him. He must really be dedicated to his Tuxpan wife.

Sara, loved your insight and humor. Your spot on take and accurate assessments are really appreciated. Excellent summary.

"Carmen beats El with plush flowers, but melts at his flowery words" was one of my many favorites but I liked your take on so many of the occurrences last night: "Ok. Brat is a sourpuss, but I don't like the thought of anyone being rejected by a parent and I fear this is the road the writers are traveling.)" - yes, true and well stated. "Abdul doesn't have much money and Paolo offers some of his savings" - I agree and love the character.

Although I have gone back and forth on Brig, she is now officially dead to me. When dear little Lupita went to hug her and she non-too gently removed Lupita's arms from her waist, that was it. Although our little Lupita did not seem upset, I was troubled enough for the both of us (and I see you were as well Kat). Harrummph.

Kat, like Mr. 5ft, I think Kim accompanying Morales may signify she could possibly become a policewoman? If not, at least she would have more understanding and tolerance for what the job entails. I liked the fact he took her with him (although that wouldn't occur in real life).

Vivi, also liked Abdul and Paolo's antics with El and Carmen. Those two are adorable. Maybe I should say those four? El and Carmen were so cute together. I also enjoyed them finally being together Fatima.

tofie "Paul - you created a monster". Yes.

David: "Like Einstein, the cuddly genius that the whole world loves, but who can't/doesn't want to have personal commitments". True. The only unlikeable father that has surfaced to the only unlikeable child. Hmmmm.

For me, Nat and Diego aren't even some of the more interesting second tier characters. I would be happy with much more emphasis on Paolo, Irene, Tad, Abdul, El, Carmen, etc...

Karen, I am also uncomfortable with the possibility Grumps could live and Tad may not. Agree with everyone who's wondered why he had to go through everything if he was doomed from the start.

Sara, you hit another home run. I always look forward to your recaps.

Diana

In my book even a dead Tad is more man than frat boy will ever be.

David, great point about the dorm room pharmacist and guess he writes phoney prescriptions for himself and enlist a enthusiastic dupe to administer the dope unsupervised by a physician. All a hypothesis of Paul's and if there are negative side effects the punk will run and hide under Irene's skirt.

I understand the seductiveness of adoration, flattery and chemistry however who in there right mind could consider Alonso a prize.

". Ok. It looks like Tad is doomed. I can live with that, but so help me if she ends up with Frat Boy...."

Atta girl. We're all with you, Sara. And of course she IS going to end up with the Emotional Dwarf. All the signs point to it. Though I hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for including the link to the song. I really liked it, but clearly it is not on iTunes here. Maybe later.

And YES! the singing on the boat was off-key. This happens so often on these telenovelas and I've even bought CD's where the singing is off-key...or not coordinated with the orchestra. Really hate that.

Loved the scene with the boys giving El a hard time. And what a sad note, when odious Brigette walked in and sneered "Out of the all the possible choices, you picked him!?"

And yes, kudos to the respectful security guard who didn't look down her cleavage or up her skirt. However the cameraman sure did!

Thanks Sara. Crisp, funny and on point.

Diana-I think "Harrumph" correctly sums up how I've been feeling about some of the action lately. It's not full anger, just a sort of "harrumph."

tofie-Amen to a dead Tad is better than the leg humper.

David-I'm glad the CCs were working better last night. And ditto the sentiments on Brat. I hate to see anyone rejected by a parent, but it's not like she really gives a flip about him as a dad. She just sees an oddly coiffed wallet.

JudyB- I love Emotional Dwarf (Viagra and ED?) I've always wondered about the abundance of off-key mariachi scenes. Am I missing some sort of atonal musical tradition/history of the mariachi?

oddly coiffed. Hoot and way too kind Sara

Maybe the meds are already on the market, just being used for a different purpose? Otherwise, Dr. Feelgood shouldn't be able to get them, or even write a prescription for them, I would think.

Anon 1:04 you are exactly correct; such uses are called "off label."

An example is Tagamet, which is licensed as an anti acid for stomach problems is frequently and successfully used to treat plantar warts (the word is "plantar" not "planter's;" it refers to the bottom or plantar surface of the foot.) These warts tend to be very deep and difficult to treat by other means.

David

Thanks, Sara, for yet another fabulous Sara styled recap.

I am not happy about the way things seem to be headed. There are so many people I dislike now. I do not like either Nat or Diego at the moment, so I am fine with them ending up together ..forever. I like Andres, so I would like him and his money to end up with someone who appreciates and loves him, but we do not have any candidates now that Angie has become nasty. I hate Rotten Rod. He has to go. I do not want Tad to die..he is one of the few decent guys in this novela. I do not want Irena to end up with Aloser, but I fear that she will and that they will raise the baby after Karina has some unfortunate accident or fatal illness. I am looking forward to the wedding tonight...young lovers...poor but with great family support..Love will keep them alive..shout out to The Eagles.

Now, regarding the El /Carmen date, I totally loved it. having started dating my hub in high school, I would have loved the date, but had to settle for movies, bowling, and diner dinners. The date was very romantic and sweet. I would love it. Survey...What is the most romantic date you have ever had ?

Reading over the comments just makes me more mad and sad the writers seem to be on the road to take Tad out. As tofie said, a dead Tad is better than little Al, your list was great too. And JudyB, loved your Emotional Dwarf and I'm going with your theory on Angela (she got another show and had to leave immediately).

Diana and Kat so with you on Brat's womanhandling of Lupita puts her on the irredeemable list.

Does anyone else think that Abdul and Mali are moving too fast? I'd feel more comfortable with Paolo marrying Mara now in spite of their age based on their maturity and what they've been through together.

Concerning the dresses in this show, Hub and I have noticed that TV weather girls and news anchorwomen have adopted a certain style of uniform. They wear form fitting dresses like the ones worn on this show but longer to avoid showing London, France, and the good china. They are always shortsleeved (even in winter) and a solid color and usually have a low neckline . Has anyone else noticed this?

On the local Univision affiliate, they definitely go with tight and not-too-short, but the neckline varies. That's where the mic ends up, so you don't want everyone talking into their boobs, lol!

Yes. The weather-women and female newscasters on the Latin/Spanish channels are not afraid to show off their curves in figure hugging (but not too short or too low cut) dresses. They also wear brighter colors than their counterparts on the English language channels.

The signs are pointing towards Brigitte's exit from the Garcia family: She's rejecting all of them (including Lupita and Eleazar) and she's stated her intentions in getting to know Mushroom is for money and to convince him to take her away to France. I think Brigitte will end up going to France and away from the Garcia family and she will stay away. She'll have her riches but she won't have any family love.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carmen & Eleazar ended up raising Brigitte's child.

Anyone else see the parallels between how Rod is rejecting the baby he fathered with Brat because she isn't good enough, and the way the Mushroom rejected pregnant Carmen way back in the day because she wasn't good enough? Brat is chasing after two men (her dad and Rod) for their money who think she's beneath them. Yet she wasted the love of a good man who put her up on a pedestal and thought she was better than she actually is.

Vivi..Actually, I was talking about the weather girls on all the Philadelphia TV channels that we watch. Even in the depth of this, past cold, snowy winter , they wore the same type of dresses..tight, solid colored, shirtsleeved, dresses with low necklines.

Yes Vivi I did see those parallels. Brat won't believe what Carmen said about her dad while Rod is doing the same thing to her.

Anon207, I think Brat's punishment will be her being alone. I don't see Mushroom taking her to France and she sees her family as beneath her.

Wow. They are way more sexy in Philly than they are here in DC. :) I suppose it's a practical but attractive (and comfortable) style of dress

I didn't say Mushroom would take Brigitte to France...I just said she'd be going there. Maybe she gets a modeling job there or something but I don't see her sticking around Mexico with her family and I don't see her taking care of her child. The last scene of her will probably be of her looking at Natalia & Diego all happy at their wedding, Carmen & Eleazar all happy, Mali & Abdul all happy, Paolo, Mara & Lupita all happy, Luz & Papa Juancho all happy, Irene, Tono, Lala & Tuburcio all happy and she will wistfully wish she had that happiness too, then look at Natalia's happiness and decide since everyone is not happy around HER she will just leave (hmpf!).

And not one eff will be given...

And not one eff will be given.

Hear! Hear!!

You know, I had half forgotten the girl was pregnant. I must be losing it.

Vivi-I had not really noticed the parallels, but now that you've pointed them out I do.

My husband likes to watch the weather girls on Univision lol.

I especially love Carmen in her close fitting dress. To me, she has a real, normal figure. I'm a little overweight, but I can see myself reasonably losing enough to look like her. I love that she has a tummy....which women who have had babies should have.

I could never lose enough weight to have Nat's waist, Brigitte's waist or Angelique Boyer's waist.
