De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #143 - Mon 7/28

De que con dinero baila el perro, con dinero baila el perro

Rodrigo gets Big Al's ghost to go away and takes a call from the shady doctor who's going to help him get Grumps declared mentally incompetent.  Does this actor always play shady guys?

Morales hasn't tracked down the account where Rodrigo is depositing all the money.  It's not enough to accuse him of embezzlement, since he can just claim he took the money for something business-related.

Brigitte scolds the Mushroom Man for not taking advantage of her drunk mother.  He's pretty much resigned to going back to France, but, hey, he and Brig can be Facebook friends.

Alonso and Diego make plans to go visit Tiburcio and start his new drug regimen.

Carmen visits Eleazar and tries to use her feminine wiles on him, but he's too pissed about Carmen "kissing" the Mushroom Man.  She tries to tell him how things really went, but he won't listen and throws her out, saying it's OVER.  Carmen goes, but she says she hopes he won't be sorry later.  Eleazar grouses about knowing what he saw.  Carmen stands outside his door and calls the Mushroom Man to set up a meeting tomorrow morning at the fonda.

Tiburcio seems happy to see Diego and Alonso.  He's not so happy that his new medication is in the form of an injection.

Rod and the shady doctor visit Grumps.  Rod passes the new doctor off as being there to help Grumps with his memory problems.

The Mushroom Man shows up with flowers, but Carmen tells him she didn't ask him there for romantic reasons.  He screwed up her relationship with Eleazar and she wants him to go explain to El what happened.  He refuses, of course, so Carmen threatens him with bodily harm.

Grumps refuses to talk to the "shrink" but gives in because his darling grandson wants him to.

Nat gets a lovey text from Andres, who immediately shows up with a puppy for her.

El sees the stuffed bear in his office and shoves it in the trash can.  The Mushroom Man arrives, gets manhandled by El, and tells El the truth, including what Carmen said while she was drunk.  El smoothes out the front of Mushroom Man's suit.

Grumps gives the wrong name of his son, doesn't mention Irene when asked how many children he "had", says he can't remember anything about what led to his heart attack.  When Rod and the doctor leave, Grumps thought bubbles that Rod's not going to get him.

The Mushroom Man makes a good case for why El should believe there's nothing going on between Carmen and MM, and when he's reeled El in he segues into how El doesn't really have anything to offer a woman like Carmen.

The shady doc and Rod convo in the hallway.  The shady doc actually thinks Grumps is fine.  The confusions he had about names are pretty normal.  Rod tries to make it seem like he's concerned about the welfare of the company and Grumps making bad decisions.  "So remove him from power."  Rod, frustrated that this guy isn't getting it, finally says he just wants him declared insane at any cost.  "Oh, then you should have started with that."  Rod asks for his price.

The Mushroom Man brings up El's dangerous job and how poor Carmen might one day have to get "that" call…and how his crappy pension won't meet her financial needs…and Carmen might have to spend her whole life waiting tables…and what about the children?  Lupita's definitely college bound.  And not to some crappy school in Mexico...she deserves an education at the Sorbonne!

The doc points out how much is at stake and warns Rod to get Grumps out of the hospital ASAP so they can drug him into senility away from the prying eyes of responsible medical personnel.

Mushroom Man tells El that love just isn't enough.  El tells Mushroom Man that he can tell what Mushroom Man is trying to do, but he isn't going to fall for it.  After this odd couple's rendition of let's whip 'em out and measure…MM has won 3 Perrier awards for Neuropsychiatry and El has won 3 awards as best (looking?) cop in the DF…El throws Mushroom Man, physically, out of his office and tells him never to come back.

Hilda's thrilled about what Al and Diego are doing for Tiburcio, 'cause that grunting is SO getting on her nerves.  Diego tells her their motives and Hilda agrees…Rod done it!  She actually encourages Tib to keep working on it so the poor dead guy can get some justice!

Rod goes in to Grumps' doctor and proposes taking Grumps home to finish his recovery.  The doctor is in agreement, after another 48 hours of observation.

El is feeling insecure about his financial propects and whether Carmen cares about them or not.  A little devilish Mushroom Man pops up on his shoulder to torment him some more.

Rod comes in to give Grumps the good news that the "shrink" can help him get his memory back and the hospital will be ready to release him in a couple of days.  Vicente keeps up the "I'm just a harmless old man" routine.

Nat takes a call from Irene, who tells her that Tad is back to normal.  She invites Nat to come visit Vicente in the hospital with her.  Nat really isn't in the mood to find out that his intentions have changed.  She'll think about it and let Irene know.

Vicente calls Rosa to give her an update.  He's concerned that at the house, Rod will make another attempt on his life.  Rosa offers her services as bodyguard.  Vicente asks her to come over so they can plan.

Tad has finished his painting of Irene and Natalia and says he's ready to go in peace, feeling like his life was worth living.  He sits down at his desk to write…"My dear and adored Irene and Natalia…."

The Mushroom Man is sure he preyed on El's insecurities.  Brigitte shows up and MM tells her about his conversation with El.  He thinks El was easy to manipulate.  Being such a learned man in the ways of the brain, he thinks he's done such a good job that El will finish scaring himself off without any further intervention.  Brigitte goes running for the bathroom.

El is trying to buy flowers for Carmen and the guy keeps telling him that the ones El is choosing are more and more expensive.  His card won't go through, so El has to settle for a "smaller" bouquet.

Brigitte gets back to the table and all she wants to eat is chicken broth.  Mushroom Man won't hear of it and insists on ordering a dinner that will educate her palate.  She thought bubbles that she'll have to tell him about the baby soon.  He brought her a present and she pounces on it so fast it blows his hair back.

Irene is happy to hear that Vicente will be going home soon.  She hopes he's not anxious to get back to work, but that's not what his heavy sigh was about.  He tells her not to leave him alone.  He feels weak and frightened.  Irene says he'll recover and be Grumping around soon enough.  Vicente asks if Natalia might want to come visit him after all.  He insists he needs her to forgive him.  And if he has to beg for it a thousand times, he'll do it.

El shows up at the fonda with the giant bouquet of roses he was able to afford.  Carmen accepts the roses and tells him he shouldn't have spent all the money.  The Mushroom Devil makes another appearance.  Carmen invites El to sit with Lupita and have something to eat.  She's a little busy, though, with Mali off on her honeymoon, so she's having to wait tables alone (Toño, one presumes is back in the kitchen).

Irene sees Tad's doctor in the hospital and he has to pretend he's asking about Tad for no particular reason.  Next, she runs into Karina who insists on confirming what she's sure Alonso has already told her--they're just business partners.  And also, even though Irene is married, Alonso's still in love with her.  "Ok.  Well.  If that's all then."  Irene leaves.

As El watches Carmen he hears Mushroom Man's voice telling him that Carmen should be waited on, not be waiting on others.  Lupita tells him she wants to be a chef and study at a Canadian cooking school.  The Mushroom Devil pops up again and tells El that Lupita will have to study at the school of life…so sad!  He looks at the magazine where Lupita was showing him the cooking school and the Mushrom Devil pops up there and waves at El.

Hilda is feeding Tiburcio in the kitchen and leaves to get his medicine.  He tries feeding himself, but doesn't get past lifting the spoon before Rod comes in and roughs him up, reminding him he'd better stay quiet.  Hilda comes back and defends Tib, telling Rod it's not really so much of a recovery and she didn't think Rod would be interested anyway.  From now on, Rod wants updates.  He leaves and Hilda comforts a sobbing Tiburcio.  Die, Rod, die!

Rod sees Lala, who also downplays Tiburcio's recovery.  He also demands that Lala keep him updated.  He informs her Vicente will be coming home soon, but he'll probably never be the same as he was before.

El is saying goodbye to Carmen and Lupita as the Mushroom Man comes up with Brigitte's gift, which she conveniently left in his car.  Lupita takes the dress out of the bag and says she wants one.  El says he'll buy one for her and then he, Carmen, and Mushroom Man all squabble about who's going to buy it/who can afford it.  El says he knows how to spend his own money and then gives Carmen a good smooch in front of MM.  Mushroom Man also leaves, after kissing both of Carmen's cheeks.

Hilda and Lala talk in the kitchen, saying they'll have to put up with Rod.  Hilda brings up a good point…if Rod killed the guy who was supposed to be his friend, what will he do to them?  Lala says they'd better help catch him.  Hilda's convinced Rod wants to kill Tiburcio and she's never going to be able to sleep in the house again.  Lala is going to let Diego know what happened.

Rod is sure someone's helping Tiburcio recover.  The shady doc brings Rod the medications he's going to need to give Vicente.  He'd prefer his payment in cash, but Rod insists on a bank transfer.

Vicente opens his eyes to see Natalia in the room.  He thanks her for coming and swears he's sincere in asking for forgiveness.

Lupita is drawing a dress like Brigitte's.  Carmen would like Lupita to tell El she'd like something less expensive…or to just ask Natalia to make one for her.  Lupita messes with Carmen, pretending she's becoming a label-obsessed mini-Brigitte.  At least I hope she was just messing with Carmen, 'cause if this show ruins Lupita that will really be the last straw for me.  For realz.

Natalia reminds Vicente he's been a royal asshat to her pretty much from the moment of her birth.  "Tell me what I can do for you to forget the anger you have towards me."  Nat won't do it.  She tells him he'll have to figure it out on his own.  She reminds him about keeping her away from Diego and throwing her in jail.  "I'm scared of you."  Vicente swears he'll never hurt her again and he's really sorry.  "I was a bastard!  But now the only thing I want is for you to forgive me one day and hear you call me abuelo."  Natalia says she can't pretend a fondness she doesn't feel…and my DVR cuts off.

Tomorrow: my guess would be, more of the same.

Comments:
I'm so disappointed in Grumps. He did absolutely nothing today to either defend himself OR make Rod pay. Seriously, man...just kick him out of the company and have him thrown in jail for attempted murder. And MAYBE then, Nat would have believed you were sincere.

Kate- Fabulous! Your dvr cut off after mine did, so I was happy to get the rest of Nat telling Grumps off. I was so happy that Nat didn't fall for that. It's all well and good for Irene to need that closure with him, because he's her father. But he's nothing to Nat, and he's been nothing but evil to her, so she doesn't need to forgive him for her emotional well-being like Irene did.

Also disappointed that Grumps isn't doing more to bring Rod down before Rod does him in.

That puppy was adorable! Where is he going to live? The Garcias are all busy working all day. Of course Lupita would love him.

I have a feeling it's not going to be pretty when Mushroom finds out Brat is pregnant. He already can't wait to get as far away from her as possible.

I think it's weird for her to show up just to tell him she's not going to forgive him...I mean why take the time?...but nah, I don't really care if she does or doesn't.

The puppy was bizarre for an allegedly non-edited episode. Andres said something about taking him to the vet and then...no more puppy. I wonder if s/he will ever show up again!

Mushroom man is not ready to be a grandpa yet. I agree, he's going to get on the first plane back to France when he finds out.

Thanks, Kat! Divine, as usual! I particularly liked "He brought her a present and she pounces on it so fast it blows his hair back." It must not have been too expensive if she left it in the car, though.

If they character assassinate Lupe then this show is dead to me.

And he had this horrified look on his face like a wild animal had just jumped up on the table! He's getting such a clear view of what she's really like, but what I can't figure out is whether he's being oblivious to the fact that she desperately wants to go back to France with him or if he's pretending not to know that in self-defense.

Right there with you! They'd better leave my Lupita alone!

Well, he strikes me as a rather self interested guy and very interested in appearances to boot. Brigitte must seem like a quasi-naca to him. So I'm betting he knows she wants to go to France, but it ignoring it.

I was actually surprised at how un-worldly she is for someone who puts down her family for their naca-ness. She's all about the clothes, but she never seems to have done any research about food...I wonder if she knows about books? Film? Art? I don't think he likes the idea of having to introduce her to his friends...at least not until she stops turning up her nose at fine French foods and asking for tacos in fancy restaurants!

She's really just about the money, IMO. She dislikes her family for not just being poor, but being PROUD of it! The nerve!!

If the writers think I'm supposed to feel bad for Brigitte if MM leaves, they are wrong. Oh sure last week I felt bad for her, but her actions are all driven by greed so I say leave her butt in Mexico. If MM had turned out to be broke, she wouldn't have given him the time of day. (Hmmmm de tal palo tal astilla.)

I just feel sorry for her baby. I assume she's going to be redeemed because IIRC she hasn't done anything that warrants death or prison.

No, she really hasn't done anything bad enough to warrant jail or death. Definitely enough to live alone while having to watch other people get what she thinks she deserves, though!

Andres didn't get Natalia a puppy. His shmoopy text said stte that, "I don't know where we're going, but wherever you go I'll go with you" and then when he walked in he said, "Well, I do know where I'm going ... to the vet, want to go with me?" He said he found the puppy and that's what he was going to do - take him in to a vet. Natalia said it was cute, but neither one mentioned anything about it being for her one way or the other.

You are correct.

Thanks so much Kat. This was great!!

Point for the puppy but a complete and total fail on Lupita's odd behavior. Oh writers don't mess up the one truly brilliant character you have here.

Grumps needs to focus as Kat noted. Take Rod down and don't go back to your creepy house where Rod can try to kill both men over 50. Also, as our Vivi noted, Nat owns you nothing. I don't like how this tn treats forgiveness like that bad line from "Love Story." Love means never having to say I'm sorry.

Thanks Kat - tee hehe "she pounces on it so fast it blows his hair back."

Maybe it's because of the adrenalin rush, when Rod wacked Alberto unexpectedly, that everything else seems like slow pitch softball.

Gonna echo the chorus and sign me up for the lynch mob if Lupita becomes a Tag Hag.

Andres - A puppy? Use your imagination son, Diego does

Tad - missing in the swansong masterpiece

Irene - leaping lizards Karina you scared the hell outta me

Paul - pisser contest

Lupita - ya'll wear um why not me

El - keeping up with the Champignones

Nat - show me

Hot Rod - keep transferring money by wire, please

Vincente - and find that nurse Irma to attend me

Bad Shrink - well that's a horse the color of money

Hi, 5ft,

Thanks for your work and wit on this episode!

So Mushroom Man believes he knows how to manipulate someone's emotions because he understands how the brain is wired? That is pure BS. The two have nothing in common. La Jaiba, for example, was an expert manipulator, but knew nothing about neuroanatomy or neurophysiology. (but then it seems to be working on El. Jeez)

"Brigette scolds Mushroom Man for not taking advantage of her drunk mother." This exposes Brat for what she really is at her core. To Brat, Carmen isn't the woman who sacrificed so much for her over the course of her life, but merely someone to be taken advantage of in a moment of weakness.

I don't quite understand Rod acting largely without any semblance of a conscience, but having recurring conscience attacks by seeing Big Al. Maybe he will take himself down and wind up in a manicomio.

And Nat's reaction to Vicente. No call of the blood here. I thought her response was great; I'll think about it.

I think Lupita is going through the dreaming phase of "what might I do with my life." I don't think she will seriously turn on those who love her and whom she loves.

David

Like David, I just think Lupita was just being a little girl. We saw her show interest in cooking an in fashion this episode-- both areas other family members excel in. In fact, I think Lupe will probably end up being talented in all the areas her sibs and parental figures (including Chato's criminal mind and El's passion for crime fighting) work in. We've also seen her want to do the things her big sisters do before, like when she tried to convince her to take her out dancing at the club-- remeber, she said Paolo would be her date. :)

Though no fan of Nat, I loved her rebuff of Vincnete, and not an emotional response, but one calmly, logical and truthfully stated with only a sprinkle or two of tears. I wouldn't believe the old coot either. Wait till he gets color back in his cheeks, then decide.

Can't stoop any lower than contributing to the death of Alberto so manipulating a new found rich and famous father for a couple quid nothing that goes against her nature. Her father is all too happy to throw bucks and awards around to impress and he may disappear again so back that truck up and fill a warehouse with nice frilly things.

Clever to use El's insecurity to take him out with Carmen but it hurt my feelings as he sat there with Lupita. He absolutely adores that little girl, so Paul that was a low blow.

Karen-you're right. Rod's about to have both of the older gents right where he wants them.

tofie-this did seem awfully slow. I, too, thought that Tad's hidden painting was going to be something like the family portrait they never took.

David-Good point about Mushroom Man's supposed mad skillz. If he's getting anywhere with El, I'd attribute that more to El's insecurity that anything on MM's part!

I'm comforted by the thought that Lupita might just be exploring some options.

I was very disappointed by Tad's final work. I was also hoping it would be a family portrait.

Eh, Lupita is 7. She might watch "Mi Corazon Es Tuyo" with Luz and decide she wants to be a pole dancer next.

There would be no call of the blood with Natalia because she & Vicente are not blood related & she had no good memories of him. Irene did, at least.

HOWEVER, if Natalia can run over to the hotel to talk Rodrigo out of killing himself AFTER he tried to rape her twice and tried to do away with her fiancee, she could run over to Vicente & listen to him.

I was through with Brigitte when she decided to break her mom & Eleazar up for her own purposes. Brigitte is one of those people whose philosophy is "If I can't be happy, NOBODY can be happy."

That's why I think Brigitte's ultimate punishment is to be outcast from the rest of her family in the end.

I'm trying to understand why Karina felt the need to tell Irene the baby was just a business transaction. Um, ok. Even if Alonso is not with Karina and Irene gets back with Karina, they'd still have to deal with Karina as a mother* of Alonso's child.

And if Alonso DIDN'T care to associate with Karina, why make a baby with her (especially the old fashioned way ---Irene doesn't know about that).

*I actually think Karina would be the best mother out of the 3 girls who've gotten pregnant on this show...mainly because she truly wants her baby.

Ugh. I'm missing a pregnancy. Brigitte, Karina and who else?? I don't have the gray matter to keep up with these things.

Diana.

Anon 207-that is a good point. Disturbing, but a good point!

How could I forget Diana? Thanks Kat.

Shoot, Karina was concerned about Diana's baby and didn't want Brigitte to abort her baby. I think Karina is nutty stalker and needs some mental help but in her defense, Alonso encourages her. I think they will give Karina the Angela Treatment to get rid of her and justify putting Alonso, Irene & Alonso Jr back together.

Karina's also the only one who's bothered with any kind of prenatal care. Diana wouldn't even eat and Brigitte, while at least not doing anything to actively harm the baby, is basically just ignoring that she's pregnant.

I think Karina a good girl at heart and just went off the track but back on. She wants this baby even more than Alonso and a shame a girl that wants a child will not get a chance to raise and love it. What justice is there when you have to kill Tad and either bug Karina out or kill her so Irene and the walking, talking codpiece and his child can live happily ever after.

Now that Karina isn't crazy stalker girl and seems to finally understand that she and Al won't be a couple, I don't see why she has to be killed off. They didn't kill off the inconvenient first wife/baby-mama in Amor Bravio. Divorce and co-parenting worked out.

good point Vivi and perhaps that was Karina's motivation in talking to Irene. She knows Alonso will, come hell or high water, be with Irene and Karina offering an olive branch first.

I can hope. I'm also still holding out hope that Tad won't die, but last night was pointing in the opposite direction. The painting is done, he's started writing his goodbye letter, and the doctor didn't mention anything to Irene. I twitch my foot in the general direction of the writers!

Kat, this was fantastic.

"Brigitte scolds the Mushroom Man for not taking advantage of her drunk mother. He's pretty much resigned to going back to France, but, hey, he and Brig can be Facebook friends" made me laugh out loud. You always manage to make me smile...

"After this odd couple's rendition of let's whip 'em out and measure" was outstanding.

Of course, not that I wasn't in tears after reading "Tad has finished his painting of Irene and Natalia and says he's ready to go in peace, feeling like his life was worth living. He sits down at his desk to write…"My dear and adored Irene and Natalia….". I'm sick...

I think Gumps likely has some master plan percolating but he is now at the evil doctor's mercy. He might be injected in his sleep so I'm afraid he may be drugged and will truly forget what he knows (Rod tried to kill him, etc.). Speculation only, not a spoiler.

Hilda finally kissed and comforted Tiburcio. I am praying he survives - Rod seems angrier every time he sees him. We all know what Rod is capable of. I was hoping he would confide in someone/anyone as to what is going on. He's not strong enough to wage this battle on his own.

Enjoying El and Carmen but not too much else presently.

I did think Nat conducted herself well with Grumps. She agreed to see him but not to concede forgiveness.

Great comments today. Karina may indeed survive and get to raise her child. After Alberto was killed off, it's hard to speculate on what will or won't happen.

Thanks again Kat.

Diana

Diana-I agree, Grumps may be underestimating Rod's degree of evil and determination to get him out of the way. He has one more day of safety in the hospital and after that, all bets are off. Not that being in the hospital did him any good the first time Rod tried to off him!

It was nice to see Hilda showing concern at least and drop the attitude that they'll be safer if Tiburcio doesn't say anything!

We know Televisa recycles props, but I never thought I would see the same prop in two novelas being broadcast at the same time. Remember Tad's Warholesque painting of Irene, with four images of her on one canvas? It is now used as wall decor in the Chicago dive on MCET, on a wall "just to the right" of the stage. Which makes it that much more obvious, because on DQTQTQ it appears on a wall "just to the right" of Tad's living room.

No one has mentioned the previews so I don't want to spoil. Those who saw the previews will know what I mean when I say I'm going to be VERY upset if what they showed in the previews does happen.

Wouldn't it be awesome if it isn't Rod's conscience that makes him see Alberto, but that Alberto's ghost is actually haunting him?

Wish we could start a "Save Tad" movement.

Nanette

LatinainMD-I'm waiting for MCET to show up on OnDemand so I don't clog up the DVR. I'll have to watch out for that!

Nanette-The previews are so often misleading, and if not for the DVR cutting off, I would have posted it myself. "Save Tad" makes me think of "Save Ferris" :D

Sign me up for the Save Tadeo movement, Nanette. I'm in.

I suspect the roster will grow quickly!

Diana

Maybe we should start one of those online petitions.

"To the writers of DQTQ2: We the undersigned want Tadeo to get the medical help he needs, go into complete remission and live happily ever after with Irene and Natalia."

Nanette

Yes Nanette. Sign me up too.

I'd sign that!

SAVE TAD!!!!

We need t-shirts. Also "Lupita is my homegirl!"

Save Tad. Save Tad. Save Tad. Please, please, pretty please with sugar on top.

He's the only grown up on the show, well other than Vicente, but he's ha butthole and don't count.

I'd like both "Save Tad" and "Lupita is My Homegirl" t-shirts.

Other potential shirts...

"Vicente Cacares School of Bidness--Home of the Fighting Twins"

"Eleazar Medina Fan Club. Cuff Me, Officer!"

Please sign me up for Save Tad.

A "Save Tad" petition outside this blog could backfire. I could imagine someone who knows the outcome could send a spoiler of what actually happens, thinking they are reassuring us. Afterall we sound like we really want to know. Also, since the writers injected an element of surprise by killing off Albert, it made us paranoid and now we've predicted death for just about all the other characters in order not to be taken by surprise again. Jess saying.

This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

Not necessarily. Alberto was a surprise, but they're being incredibly heavy-handed about Tad. I don't even know if we could call them "hints" at this point. They're dropping anvils!

Hola, just butting in. I hate the fact that it seems La Brat Brigitte might be redeemed or could get away with her past misdeeds and collusions. If I am not mistaken, she had expressed her desire that her sister be done away by Rodrigo. I think that merits a heavy karma and not just be exiled to the city of my dreams, "Paris".
I would forgive Karina for helping Natalia foil the abortion act by this bad Brigitte, and also she would be giving Alonso a blood child which is not possible for Irene.
thanks
