Hasta el Fin del Mundo #6 8/25/14 The Unstoppable Force meets an Immovable Object

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I only got a chance to see the first segment of the show online, the rest I had to watch as broadcast. Univision had the 'D' team on closed captions again so the captions were lagging behind the dialogue on this episode. I apologize ahead of time if I missed or misunderstood some of the dialogue. Please feel free to fill in or correct in the comments.

Let's get to it!

Armando gets fired from his new job and discovers that his old boss has bad-mouthed him to all the other auto mechanics. His employment prospects look bleak.

Chava escorts Sofia through the gauntlet of news photographers and reporters crowded around the Ripoll factory gate. The reporters shout questions at them as they plow through the crowd. Sofia agrees to talk to the reporters inside the gate.

Silvana hands Marisol a Ripoll uniform. Marisol thought she'd be working in the offices. Silvana nastily informs Marisol that since she hasn't finished high school, she isn't qualified for anything but working on the factory line. Silvana grabs the uniform back from Marisol, "That's the job you've got. Take it or leave it." Marisol puts her hands out to take the uniform.

Sofia climbs up on the bed of a pick-up truck as the reporters gather around. I notice the Univision reporter is right up front. Sofia turns the tables on the press and uses the opportunity to promote Ripoll's 30th Anniversary and their new line of chocolates. She hands each reporter a box of chocolates. A reporter asks Sofia if the attempted kidnapping was just a publicity stunt for the company. Sofia replies that there was a real attempt to kidnap her, but nothing bad happened and the police are investigating. She asks Matias to give everyone a box of chocolates and steps down from the truck. Chava praises how Sofia handled the situation.

Alexa is on the phone with her agent Fabian. She claims she doesn't need the money, but as long as she's in Mexico she might as well do some acting. It seems her agent has offered her an opportunity to do a commercial. I so hope it's for pinkeye medication. How appropriate would that be? Alexa is horrified. Doing a commercial is beneath her, it's not good for her image.

Chava and Sofia enter the office. Patricio comes in with news that the kidnapping story is all over the TV and the internet. He wraps his arm around Sofia and pulls her aside. He asks how Greta is taking the news. Sofia says, "She's upset."

At the store, Lupe tells Paco and Irma that another woman in the neighborhood is selling her property. Paco is sure that there is something nefarious behind all the sales of homes and businesses. Lupe thinks Paco is just paranoid. They argue with each other about gossip and motives. Lupe storms out. Irma thinks that underneath the arguments Lupe and Paco are actually sweet on each other. He denies it. After Irma leaves Paco whispers that the only woman he's ever really loved is.... Adelle? Did I get that wrong? My hubby heard Adelle too.

As we hear Paco say the name 'Adelle' we see Greta talking with Alexa. Alexa needs a chauffeur, she's going to a casting call. Greta tells her that Salvador has taken Sofia to the factory. "Where's Armando?" Alexa is furious when Greta tells her that Armando was just hired for the day. "You mean Sofia gets a chauffer and I don't?" Alexa demands that Greta hire a chauffeur for her as well.

Back in the office, Patricio tells Sofia he worries about her and just wants to look out for her. He loves her above everything. Patricio's phony concern is interrupted by a call from Greta. Sofia agrees to handle the chauffeur controversy, then calls and asks a secretary to have Salvador come to her office right away.

Chava tells Matias that it's Marisol's first day on the job and he's worried about her. Matias says he can't keep an eye on her because he's been suspended. But he knows that Marisol is getting the factory tour so he'll check on her. One of the admins tells Chava that Sofia needs him right away.

Patricio hangs all over Sofia. This guy is like a leech. I wonder if he leaves a trail of slime behind him? He wants to be alone with her. As Patricio starts putting the moves on Sofia, Chava bursts through the door. "What do you need?" Patricio chews him out for coming in without knocking. Chava protests, "I was told it was urgent!" Patricio holds the door open and orders Chava out, but Sofia stops him. Chava apologizes, "I made a mistake. It won't happen again." Patricio glares at him and leaves.

Maestro Coria takes Marisol on the factory tour. Matias tries to sneak along behind them, but Coria spots him. He reminds Matias that he is suspended and orders him to get out of his sight. Coria says, "That guy drives me crazy." He asks Marisol if she knows Matias. She says he's not a friend of hers but she has seen him around the neighborhood.

Irma and Armando are arguing again. It seems that in addition to the new furniture, Irma also bought a new TV behind Armando's back. In the middle of the argument Chava calls with news of a full time job for Armando as a chauffeur. Armando is more concerned about what happened just before the race. He tells Chava that someone sabotaged Bigfoot! Chava says they can talk about that later, Armando needs to get over to the Ripoll mansion, pronto!

After school Dani dials a number on her cell phone. Lucas answers. She hears his voice then panics and hangs up.

Armando drives Alexa to her audition. She talks about herself, her work, her connections. Armando tells Alexa she's just like his son - always yammering about something that Armando doesn't understand. Alexa is shocked, "Your son? Are you married?" He tells Alexa he's not married yet, but he's planning to be.

In the meantime, bride-to-be or not-to-be Irma is at the mall trying to figure out a way to pay for that big screen TV. She decides to buy some scratch tickets to try to win a cash prize.

Maestro Coria remembers his confrontation on the street with Paco; how Paco called him a fraud, a liar and a thief. He starts to hyperventilate. Patricio comes into the kitchen and asks for the "special" bon-bon the Chef created for Sofia. Coria, still having trouble breathing, reaches for the glass canister on the shelf, takes a candy out and puts it into a box. Patricio finally notices the Chef's labored breathing and pallor. "Are you okay?" He pulls a chair forward and tells Coria to sit down and take it easy. The Chef is Ripoll's most valuable employee and they can't afford to have anything happen to him! Unfortunately for the Maestro, Patricio has hit his daily limit of compassion. He walks out as Coria sits clutching his chest and rubbing his left arm. I guess Chef Coria will be having his heart attack by himself.

Dani stops at Paco's store to ask about an address in the neighborhood. Paco tells her it's just around the corner. She asks, "Do you sell Ripoll Chocolates?"
He barks, "Ripoll? That's an insult!"

Alexa poses with a perfume bottle. The commercial director doesn't like what he sees. He yells at her to smile. She flashes a wide grin. "No! No! That's a fake smile! It needs to look real!" She adjusts her pose and tries again. He screams, "Now you're covering the name of the perfume with your hand!" He tells an assistant, "Bring in the next model!" Alexa jumps up. "Do you know who I am? I'm Alexa Ripoll! You can't treat me like this!" She swings her arm across the table and knocks all the perfume to the floor. Alexa and the director scream at each other. Before things get too ugly Armando steps in, grabs Alexa by the arm and drags her out the door.

Sofia and Silvana share a little girl talk. Sofia is sure there's a special man out there for Silvana. Sofia cautions her not to become a workaholic the way Sofia is. Patricio waltzes in with his special delivery. He presents Sofia with the chocolate bon-bon that Maestro Coria created especially for her! Sofia bites into it and savors the morsel slowly. Delicious! Patricio continues his seduction where he left off. He gets behind Sofia's chair and drapes himself over her shoulders. He wants to have a special night with a romantic dinner, then they can do something more... intimate.

Dani finds Lucas' house. She gets cold feet when she realizes she doesn't know what to say to him. She turns and starts to walk away. Lucas comes out of the house and sees her. "Wait! Wait!" Dani runs off.

At the mall, Irma turns her scratch tickets in to see what she's won.

Alexa is angry that Armando dragged her out of the studio. She insults him and calls him a servant. He warns her, "Don't talk to me that way."
"I'll talk to you any way I want to."
He pulls the car over and screeches to a halt. "I quit." He gets out of the car and walks away.
Alexa yells, "Come back here! You can't leave me here!"

Chava pulls away from the factory. He realizes he's forgotten the mail so he stops, gets out and runs back to pick it up. As he dashes back to the car Paco spots him. "Salvador! What are you doing here? Answer me!" He grabs Chava by the lapels and shakes him. Chava explains that he's working as Sofia Ripoll's chauffeur. Paco calls Chava a traitor. Sofia gets out of the car and asks, "Why did you call Salvador a traitor?"
"I have my reasons." Paco turns and walks back to his store.
Sofia asks, "Who is that man? What did you do to him? "
"His name is Paco Fernandez. He offered me a job at his store and I turned him down."
Sofia recalls meeting Paco the day of the anniversary party. "Does he have some problem with the factory?"
Chava assures her, "Paco's problem is with me. Paco doesn't have anything against the company. He is just very intense. If you knew him you'd like him." Chava opens the door for Sofia. As Chava gets back in the car he wonders, "What's wrong with Paco?"

Alexa runs down the street after Armando. "Come back! You can't leave me here!" He stops and tells her she is a beautiful rich woman with a fancy car but she's a royal pain in the ass. Armando will do her a favor. He will drive her home, as a favor, with one condition. It will take 20 minutes for the drive home. She has to get in the car, sit there and shut up. Don't say anything! Not. a. single. word. Alexa tries to say something, but he shushes her and points to his watch. They stalk back to the car in silence.

Dani runs to a park and sits on a bench. "What was I thinking?" In the meantime, Lucas is playing poker with a group of rough-looking older guys. They make fun of him. "Get the kid a glass of milk. He'll be going to bed soon."

Armando drives. Alexa sits silently in the back seat. He watches her in the mirror and grins.

At the Ripoll mansion, Fausto brings Armando's work contract to Greta. She tells Fausto that she is concerned about the relationship between Alexa and Sofia. She wants to know what Fausto thinks. Fausto isn't sure Greta really wants to hear his opinion. She assures him she really does. Well in that case Fausto thinks Alexa is an impulsive, irresponsible, disrespectful, spoiled brat. Greta thanks him. She shares his opinion.

Just then the front door opens and Alexa stomps in. She starts bitching but Armando shushes her. He greets Greta and Fausto. Alexa starts in again.
"Silence!" Armando points to his watch.
Greta asks a question and Armando lets Alexa answer. "He made me be quiet for 20 minutes! He wouldn't let me talk!" Armando tells Greta his side of the story; that he quit because Alexa insulted him and treated him badly. Fausto looks at her, "You have a bad temper Alexa." Alexa responds by hurling a pillow at him. Greta sends Alexa upstairs. Armando tries to leave but Greta stops him. She appreciates the way Armando handled the situation with Alexa. I have another daughter that will need you. Will you stay on? Please?

Lucas puts his bet in at the poker game. Someone calls. Time to lay down the cards.

Dani arrives home and Greta introduces her to Armando who is the new house chauffeur. Dani asks about Salvador and Greta tells her that both men are working for the family. Dani is excited to have such a handsome driver. She excuses herself to go to the kitchen. Greta tells Fausto that she's concerned about Dani always going in to talk to the cook.

Only two players remain in the poker game, the rest have folded. The older guy lays down his cards. Lucas laughs and lays down his cards. He has four kings! Lucas pulls the pile of chips toward him.

Sofia comes out of her meeting to find Chava with a mouthful of food. He apologizes, but he just needed a little something because he was so hungry. Sofia realizes she forgot to let Chava have his lunch break! Chava says it's okay, he ran and got a tamale. He brought one for her too, with chilies and cheese. She politely declines the food. In the car they talk about Sofia's plans to expand Ripoll's market in South America and then worldwide.

Lucas splits his winnings with his coach/handler who takes the lion's share. Next time, Lucas wants a bigger cut.

Back at Ripoll, Patricio tells Sofia that she is an magnificent negotiator. He stands behind her and rubs her shoulders. He reminds her of the romantic evening he wants with her. Sofia stands up. She's got more work to do. "Of course, of course." he says. He watches her leave the office. He glares at her back. "That woman is an iceberg."

Thank you so much for this very marvelous recap.

Pato is really slime isn't he? I'm expecting a trail of green slime behind him whenever he moves. I am glad Sofia is busy and shoves him off.

So Coria is not that well? Guilt getting to him? Hmmmmmm..

Paco tells it like it is, doesn't he? I guess anyone that works at Ripoll is a traitor! I think Paco was saying Greta, but it sounded like Greeeeta about being the only woman he loved.

My favorite this episode was Armando, too funny. I loved the way he told Alexa to shut it and not. another. word! I was surprised she complied and Fausto and Greta, what a pair! I'm really getting to like them. Fausto I've always liked.

And Irma is going to bankrupt poor Armando is she doesn't stop all the buying.

Lucas, how many talents has he got? None of them are good. I wonder what he'll be up to next?

The guy that split the money with Lucas was one of the "sponsors" at Chavas losing race. At the time I thought he was a sponsor because the camera kept focusing in on him and the sponsor. Maybe this guy had something to do with the loss.

Xint, this was a refreshing, invigorating burst of fresh air and warm sunshine. What a clever title. The recap was sensational. Enjoyed every single word.

“I so hope it's for pinkeye medication. How appropriate would that be?”; “This guy is like a leech. I wonder if he leaves a trail of slime behind him?"and “Unfortunately for the Maestro, Patricio has hit his daily limit of compassion” were among my many favorites.

Madelaine, I was also cheering for Armando. Silence is certainly golden and Armando's demand for it the perfect antidote to Alexa's childish wining and snobbery. Alexa's indignation made me laugh.

I might suggest “bride-to-be or not-to-be Irma” (good one Xint), be worried. Very worried. The taming of the shrew plot seems to be inevitable in throwing Armando and Alexa together. There are similarities between Irma and Alexa certainly. Selfishness is one. However, Irma's actions seem calculated to benefit her, no matter what the cost. Alexa's entitlement is no more attractive so it will be interesting to see how her character develops.

Is there a tiny fracture in Sofia's chink of armor? She really seems to be watching Chava and listening to him. They seem to be passing the time riding comfortable whether speaking or in silence. I think she enjoyed him giving away the sandwich that she didn't want.

I can't disagree with Pato that Sophia is "an iceberg." A more intelligent man might note she is just not that into him.

Xint, you did a marvelous job - thank you for the stellar summary.

Diana

Thanks for the great recap, Cathy!

I might just have to watch this episode to see Armando putting limits on Alexa. Now, why can't he do that with Irma?

Besides Fausto being the voice of reason with the Ripolls, I really love Armando's glint in the eye. I think Greta liked it too. He gets this glint whenever he can tussle with Alexa so to speak. He doesn't get that when he is talking to Irma. He's kind of ho hum with her, unless he is yelling at her for her latest purchase.

Thanks for this most excellent recap, xint. Well done. I really like your style. As you pointed out, the lagging CCs were very annoying and made this episode difficult to fully enjoy. Fortunately you managed to pick up the slack for me.

Lucas may be pretty, but I sure can't see anything else to like about this character. I suppose we are supposed to see him as a lovable scamp, but at the moment, I sure can't see any reason to expect a bright future for him, and right now I can only imagine him being responsible for an unfortunate pregnancy for either Dani, Marisol, or worse... both.

I'm really liking Sofía so far. Her enjoyment of that special chocolate was really well-acted. I'm also liking the subdued chemistry between her and Chava.

Carlos

xlnt - Thanks a bunch. Reading your recap put some zing in my afternoon.

I too enjoyed Armando standing up for himself with Alexa. Never thought of myself as a shallow girl, but the crazy eye shadow of Irma and Alexa turns me off. They are both so harsh and self-centered. I'm waiting to see which one, if any, will soften first.

Mads, Coria's apparent heart problems may play right into Patricio's plans to bankrupt the company. If the "master chocolatier" dies will Paco step up to claim his recipes?

I agree with you and Carlos about Lucas. The kid is smart enough that if he applied himself to something legal he could be easily take care of his grandma.

Cynderella, I thought Lucas' poker partner looked familiar. I don't remember if he was one of the guys in the wine cellar meeting in the first episode.

Diana, thanks so much for the kind words. I'm hoping Sofia comes to her senses about Patricio. She should pay attention to her own reactions. She isn't even comfortable about him touching her. I think she needs a break from all the work pressure to clear her head.

I kind of got a kick out of Irma buying scratch tickets. What? Me work to pay off the TV? Maybe I can win the lotto instead...

xInt:

Oh, I hope it is so, that Paco will step up. Now that I'd like to see and he would be a worthy opponent for Pato. Paco to me can smell BS a mile away, after what happened to him at Ripoll. I'd like to see him run into Greta. Now that would be very interesting.

xlnt - Thanks for the terrific recap!

Paco - He needs to let it go already! It annoyed me when he called poor Chava a traitor just because Chava works for the Ripoll. I'm not liking him that much.

Alexa and Armando - I enjoyed their scenes. I loved how he defended her. The fact that she couldn't do a simple commercial probably means she has no experience whatsoever in the acting world. I loved how he made her shut up during the ride home.

Lucas and that guy - I think that guy that Lucas was with was who tampered with Patotas. He was there at the race. Interesting how Lucas and him are doing business together. I wish Lucas would find a decent job. I don't see what stops him from doing this. He is looking for the easy way of getting money.

Chava and Sofia - I enjoyed their scenes. I loved how he bought her a sandwich but bought her the cheese one because she looks like she's a vegetarian to him. It was so nice of him to have given the sandwich to that guy. Although I'm not so sure if I would have accepted a sandwich from some random guy.
