Hasta El Fin Del Mundo #21 9/16/14 Pre-Nup? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Pre-Nup!

Hello Everybody! A TV station in North Carolina tweeted out this picture of the evening sky last Thursday. What do you see? Pretty awesome, right?

God Bless America!
On to the recap!

From Friday:
Miguelina tells Sofia and Chava about Lucas. Sofia wants to talk to him.
Silvana and Pato lock the office door for a bit of 'private consulting'.

New:
(Note: This scene was cut from the US version.)
Pato and Silvana get busy in his office. The chair isn't roomy enough for their latest sexcapade, but instead of going to that big comfy red couch they hit the floor.

If something on the desk falls on them
do they qualify for Worker's Comp?

Fausto tries to talk to Dani as she heads for school but Dani just tells him to get out of her way. Greta stops Dani and demands to know who Lucas is. Dani says, "He's just a friend, nothing more." Greta answered a call from him last night on Dani's cell. Dani is upset, "You answered my phone?"
Greta explains how things used to be, before cell phones. When the house phone rang, the mother would answer; everyone knew who was calling and who the call was for. But Greta didn't get to talk to Lucas because he was rude and hung up! Back then kids respected the rules! Greta thinks that Dani should invite Lucas over so the family can meet him. Dani gets sarcastic, "Thanks for ruining my life, Greta!" Greta adds more punishment, no more desserts!

Looks like Dani never learned the phrase,
"Don't poke the bear."

Irma helps Paco put groceries on the shelves at the store. Irma thought that she and Armie had finally made up, but they ended up arguing again. She complains to Paco that she sees opportunity but all Armie sees is debt. Paco thinks that Armie is just being a realist. After all, buying bigger and better stuff means more debt. If Irma really wants to change the situation she should get a j-o-b.

Armie reports back to Greta after taking Dani to school. He even walked her into the building. Greta thanks him and tells him that Alexa is in the kitchen. Predictably she's not ready to go and comes out in a short satin robe. She still has to shower, but he's welcome to come into the bathroom.... He watches her go back upstairs. He likes what he sees. And we like what we see. Tall, dark and handsome is always in style.

Paco asks Irma if she's just being selfish. She teases Paco over a hole in his pant leg. Maybe Paco just needs a woman to help him out, unless he enjoys showing a little leg. "What about Lupe'?" Paco growls, "I don't need a woman."

Lupe' is on the phone making plans to meet someone. Marisol sneaks up and listens in. After Lupe' hangs up Marisol comes into the kitchen. They argue about breakfast. Marisol won't eat because she has to work the early shift. Lupe' is going to pick up some dancing shoes that she ordered.

Paco tells Irma, "I only had one great love." Irma thinks it was his late wife Consuelo. Paco thinks Consuelo was a saint, but he doesn't want to talk about it anymore. He sends Irma for a needle and thread to fix his pants. When she leaves Paco says to himself, "It wasn't Consuelo."

Matias is in the chocolate lab. Silvana has put her clothes back on to bring him his time card. (But given her recent history she's probably going commando under that lab coat.) Matias says he never clocked in because he never left the factory. Silvana asks, "You stayed here all night?" Matias wonders if maybe Silvana is concerned because she cares about him? Silvana pops his bubble by telling him that because she's the Director of Human Resources she has to care about the welfare of all the Ripoll employees. Silvana leaves the lab and Matias follows her along the windows, "If I had a woman like you to come home to.... of course, first I'd have to have a home."

Sofia and Chava pay a surprise visit to Lucas in the hood. Lucas is sorry he made his grandmother suffer. What's worse is that the person he tried to steal from was Miguelina's boss! But Lucas has decided to straighten his life out and get an honest job. Sofia offers him a job at the factory as a general helper. She is sure if he works hard he'll progress fast. Lucas can't believe Sofia is giving him a chance after what he did to her. He promises she won't regret it.

Dani complains to a friend about the horrible conditions at home. Her mother is an ogre! No phone, no computer, no internet and what's even worse, she doesn't know what happened to Lucas. Dani's friend has no sympathy, "You were involved with a thief. No mother wants that." Dani fumes, "We have no more to talk about."

Marisol trails Lupe' down the sidewalk. Lupe' stops and looks in a window. She spots Marisol but pretends not to notice. Around the next corner Lupe' pops out from a doorway. Marisol is busted. Lupe' is just going shoe shopping. She invites Marisol to come along. Marisol gets all snooty and leaves.

Back at the office, Sofia tells Chava that it's important that nobody find out the circumstances surrounding Lucas' job at the factory. She doesn't want him to have any problems. Chava can't believe that Sofia is so generous and good to offer Lucas a second chance.

Greta and Fautso, who is looking dapper in a jaunty yellow sweater and blue scarf, put the final touches on a pre-nup. Fausto e-mails the document to the lawyer, destroys their notes and then prints out a copy for Greta. He warns her, "Sofia will be angry about this."
Greta doesn't care what Sofia thinks. She's just trying to protect the family's interests and get ahead of Pato the Parasite. They check each other's wardrobes and head for the lawyer's office.

Sofia thanks Chava for being her accomplice to help Lucas. He thanks her for trusting him. He turns to leave and they gaze at each other for a long moment.

Lucas goes to the police station to tell Comandante Tavares that he's got a job at the Ripoll factory. Tavares warns Lucas not to leave town because he isn't clear of trouble yet, "If any of the people you fleeced in the condo scam come forward, I'll have to lock you up."

While things are looking up for Lucas, Dani is about to hit bottom. She's in the headmistress's office after a fight with another student. Dani got angry when her classmate said that all thieves should have their hands cut off. So Dani jumped the girl. "I pulled out a little of her hair."
The headmistress opens a desk drawer and holds up a clump of hair, "You call this a little bit of hair?" Disrespect, fighting, bad grades, skipping classes, the Headmistress and Dani's teachers have had enough!

You pulled out so much hair
a bald guy could use it for a comb-over!

Sofia is busy working when she is interrupted by Alexa. Alexa says she's done her job, now it's time for the company to do its part and fork over the dinero. Sofia doesn't have a paycheck for her because it takes 72 hours to process a check. Alexa gets pithed. Sofia offers to transfer the money from her personal account. She picks up the phone, "Just tell me who to call in Madrid."

Alexa wears something from Big Bird's Fall Collection.

In the midst of this sisterly love fest Silvana enters to give Sofia a red folder. Alexa leaves in a huff without even acknowledging Silvana's greeting. Sofia opens the folder. "I can't believe it!" She tells Silvana it's a pre-nup that Greta insists Pato sign. Pato is just coming in the door and overhears the conversation. He is livid.

So much for "If he really loves you he won't object to a pre-nup."

Greta and Fausto leave the lawyer's office. If Sofia marries Pato and then they divorce, he'll get 50% of her earnings but nothing of what she had before the marriage. Greta wants to get another lawyer's opinion. "Do you remember the name of the lawyer that Octavio always consulted?" Fausto thinks about it briefly, "If my memory serves me correctly, his name was Arredondo."

Sofia says that Greta is just trying to protect the family fortune. Pato doesn't give a rip what Greta thinks. He's insulted! He knows that Greta thinks he's not good enough for the Ripolls. "Do you really want me to sign it? If you love me you'll tear it up." He hands her the folder. "Sofia Ripoll - if you love me - tear it up."

How dare Greta try to outsmart me!

Just as an aside, what is going on with this guy's hair? Is it just me, or is his hair getting higher and higher every week? If his marriage to Sofia doesn't work out is he planning to have a singing career like this guy:

Nah. I think Pato would want to be more like this guy:

Remember me? Vanilla Ice?

Greta spots Paco coming out of a building just down the sidewalk. She hides behind a pay phone. Fausto is puzzled by her bizarre behavior. "Are you alright?"

Pato rages at Sofia. "Greta has attacked me. I wanted to have a family and be the father of your children, but if I sign that document I'm just an employee. That's what that document means." Sofia sets the folder on the desk. Pato tries another tactic, "I knew our relationship was a risk. If it doesn't work out I risk losing you and also losing my job. But it was all worth it. I'd do it again a thousand times. But I'm either completely your husband or I'm leaving. Think it over."

It's me or your company. Got it, Girlie?

Silvana sits alone in her office and muses about Greta. "Once again you used your family to save your comforts. I'll be there to see you lose them."

Greta watches Paco cross the street and get on a bus. She turns and nearly faints from the shock. Fausto catches her and asks if she needs an ambulance. Greta scolds him. She wouldn't want the public humiliation. She lies and tells him her collapse was caused by the problems with Dani, Alexa's mental instability and worry over Sofia's pending marriage. Fausto asks, "Do you regret what you've done?" Shocked, Greta asks, "How do you know?"

Chava helps two of the Ripoll admins move a large box. Pato comes around the corner and barks, "Cruz! Cruz! What are you doing here bothering the workers? You don't belong here. Your place is out with the car." Chava stares at him.

Greta remembers a long-ago night with Paco. They planned on running away together because her family didn't approve of him. Greta was to meet Paco at noon the next day at the bus terminal. She remembers Paco kissing her and telling her, "If you're not there, I'll understand." She promised, "I'll be there." As the bus pulls away, Greta's thoughts return to the present. She pulls Fausto away by the arm. "I should have brought up the pre-nup with Sofia earlier."

Irma has been minding Paco's store in his absence. Renzi comes in to sweeten the deal to buy Paco's property. He hands her his business card. Irma follows him to the door. She's very, very interested in hearing his offer. Why doesn't he tell her about it?

Alexa meets up with Armie in the Ripoll break room. (I notice she is sans feathers and that hideous red eye shadow.) She wants him to go with her to her next photo session. He's afraid they'll try again to pressure him into modeling. He'd rather wait in the break room or down at the car.

Miguelina sings as she cooks. Dani is home from school and looking for Fausto. "He's gone for the afternoon with your mother." Dani starts to cry. "She's going to kill me. She's going to kill me. I got expelled from school!" Miguelina takes Dani in her arms to try to comfort her. Aurora comes into the kitchen to tell Miguelina that Lucas wants to talk to her. He's not on the phone, he's here at the door.

Alexa laughs that Armie inspires her and calms her nerves. He is her good luck charm, like a rabbit's foot. Way to make a guy feel good there Alexa. What will you compare him to next, a garden Gnome?

I don't know why but whenever I see THIS, in my mind I see this:

Armie asks if "steroid guy" will be at this photo shoot.
"No, it's just me and you this time."
Armie is tired of the game that Alexa is playing, trying to make him jealous. He really isn't interested. He gets up to leave. She grabs hold of his arm. "This is your last chance. Yes or no?"
"No."
Alexa orders him to stay in the break room and when she gets back he can take her home. She gets close enough to kiss him, "Then it's game over."

Listen Mister, this is your last chance
to do something really stupid.

Pato goes into see Silvana. He tells her that he gave Sofia an ultimatum, either they marry as equals or the wedding is off. Silvana doesn't understand what the big deal is about signing a pre-nup. When Pato gets done the company will be bankrupt anyway. Sofia is influenced by Greta, Pato wants to control the company. The discussion is interrupted by a knock at the door. A guy has an urgent delivery of results from a laboratory. Pato takes the envelope and pushes the guy out the door. He looks uncomfortable. Silvana smiles like the cat that just ate the canary.

Sofia cries at her desk. Chava comes in with good news, "Lucas starts tomorrow!" He notices Sofia's tears. "Are you okay?"
She tries to put on a smile but can't. "No, Salvador. I'm not okay." She starts to sob.
"What can I do to make you feel better?"
"Take me away from here. Take me somewhere far, far away from here."

End of episode

Xlent, I absolutely loved your recap. What a fun way to start the day by laughing out loud! I loved the info on what we missed with Pato and Silvana; the return of the "Conway Twitty/Vanilla Ice" pompadour on Pato's head; and the comparison of Alexa's smile with that of our great white "friend" Jaws. Thanks!

Very interesting scene when Greta saw Paco on the street and we got part of their back story. So she promised to run away with him but never showed. Even though he said he would understand if she did not show, it is evident with his bitterness he really didn't understand.

I loved Fausto's "man around town" outfit.

Sofía needs to give herself the same "tough love" she gave Alexa. I sure hope Chava can talk some sense into her so she does not end up giving in to Pato.

Jarifa

Xint, I laughed as I read the title. Your screen shots enhanced the already stellar recap. I thought this was just fantastic.

The shot of the glorious sky was lovely. We were fortunate enough to have a similar, deep pink/red infused sky here Sunday night. It makes winter’s approach a bit less intimidating and bearable.

"Looks like Dani never learned the phrase, "Don't poke the bear"; "And we like what we see. Tall, dark and handsome is always in style" and "You pulled out so much hair and a bald guy could use it for a comb-over!" were among my many favorites.

Like Jarifa, your take on Pato's pompadour was outright hilarious and so true! His hair is hopelessly out of date and out of style and the Conway Twitty comparison was inspired.

I am falling under Matias’s spell: "If I had a woman like you to come home to.... of course, first I'd have to have a home." He is delightful.

I think Fausto is this TN's best dressed - the yellow sweater was daring but it worked.

Dani's spoiled, petulant rantings are only serving to dig herself deeper into a hole. She is no match for Greta after all. She should hoist the white flag and get her act together. You know it's bad when Lucas' behavior and attitude is better than hers.

Hopefully Irma has no say in what happens to Paco's store. Her eyes certainly lit up when Renzi appeared and I think he had her number immediately.

It's amazing how much softer and younger Alexa looks without the heavy makeup and horrible eyeshadow. No doubt that Armando is attracted, but he needs to put his feeling aside and keep things professional. Well, at least as much as they can be with Alexa flitting around in a leave little to the imagination nightgown and robe.

I thought Pato reacted to the prenup staying completely true to character. Or lack of. Raving, threatening, saying how insulted he was, if you love me, yada, yada, yada. If Sophia is the intelligent businesswoman we've been led to expect she is, she will make him sign or call off the engagement.

This was a great episode and your recap was sensational. Thanks Xint.

Diana

Xint - Excellent recap. Thanks for the fun. Loved all the photos. Alexa vs Jaws and Pato vs Conway Twitty and Vanilla Ice were too funny. My favorite: Alexa wears something from Big Bird's Fall Collection.

I'm surprised Pato flew off the handle at Sofia about the prenup. Of course he would hate it, but I thought he'd be more strategic. I guess his ego took over, and Silvana is the brains in their evil duo.

If Sofia caves to Pato's bluster, I will be so disappointed.

So Paco and Greta planned to run away together. Hope Greta confides in Fausto - and soon.

x-Int:

Marvelous simply marvelous, from the screenshots to the your aides and captions under the screenshots.

Alexa is really pushing herself on Armie, but I have to say, he did resist. Good for him. I hope he continues to do that.

I too fear Irma doesn't get Paco in an untenable position, Irma is very greedy. Did anyone notice her eyeshadow? Has she taken the Alexa course in eye shadow?

Well Pato reacted to the prenup as his true self. Now hopefully Sofia catches on. He was very rude. If he had been all sweet, and oily and loving, Sofia may have ripped it up. But maybe she is hearing what Greta has been saying about Pato. I did like your pictures comparing the Pomadour. I have to say it's Vanilla Ice by a mile, lol.

So Silvana has a real hatred for Greta. I want to see what Silvana will do now.

Dani needs to get with the program. Now this acting out will get back to Greta. Greta is pretty smart she will put two and two together in no time. I loved how Fausto wanted to hug her, and she side stepped him and then she went looking for him when she got expelled. Greta will not take this well.

I had to laugh at Greta hiding behind the phone kiosk. The both of them, Greta and Paco act like two year olds. Just get it over with, go say hello and talk, darn it talk. I'm surprised she's never told Fausto what happened all those years ago.

Thanks again x-Int for this most marvelous recap!

x-Int:

I forgot to mention the title, so spot one. It had me laughing. You made my day!

Thanks Cathy! I loved the recap and the pics.

Armie straight up told Alexa that he knows she's playing a seduction game with him, and he's not going to fall for it like other men do. Wish he had also pointed out to her that he's a family man with a mujer and child. He can't afford to play her flirtation games without risking his family life.

I am digging 80s flashback Greta and her hair and big earrings.

Wow, Dani has gone off the deep end. I think she's reacting like a drug addict that's gone cold turkey and is going through withdrawal. Except her drug is the world wide internet. This is the result of cutting off a hormonal teenager's access to her smart phone and computer.

Thanks so much xlnt. Excellent recap. I loved all the screenshot and the captions. Thanks for filling in on what was left out by Uni. I knew there was more to that scene and was sure Uni had censored it.

Poor Dani. No dessert and now she's expelled from school. I loved when the headmistress pulled out the hair and asked Dani "does this look like a little?". Too bad we didn't get to see the actual hair pulling scene. I loved how Dani went looking for Fausto when she found herself in trouble. Greta will not take Dani being expelled well.

I'm glad we got a little of the backstory between Greta and Paco. I think there was more to it then Greta possibly not showing up to run off with him.

I had trouble understanding what Silvana meant when she said Greta would pay the price of her comforts. What could she mean by that?

Hmmm..Lupe on the phone sounded like she was making a date and not going to pick up some shoes. No wonder Marisol followed her thinking her mother was going to see her father.

Did we miss something? One minute Pato is being nasty to Chava and the next Chava comes into the office as if nothing happened. Huh?

I hope Sofia doesn't give in to Pato. Make him sign that prenup, Sofia!

Vivi:

That smart phone at least is her connection to her friends. Notice none of them ever come over, she is always by herself and the computer, how does Greta expect her to get any home work done? Now days if you don't have a computer you are toast if you are a student. Greta could monitor what she is looking at on line. Dani should never have kicked Fausto to the curb. He could have gotten that punishment lightened. The more you lock up a teen and scream and yell at them, you won't get the results you are looking for. Does Dani deserve to be grounded, certainly, but Greta went way overboard and now she' expelled. Greta's method of parenting leaves a lot to be desired.

Mauricio:

I'm so with you. I don't want Sofia to cave and I hope she either makes Pato sign this prenup or dump Pato.

I do think the punishment matches the crime. I just think that the way Dani is acting is like a junkie in need of a fix-- getting violent, unable to focus or stay still. It's pretty funny. Hopefully the news that Lucas in out of jail will calm her down some.

Vivi:

The desserts though? How petty is that? Instead why doesn't Greta just sit down and talk to Dani as Sofia did? That would go a long way in easing the situation. Remember Greta also banned Dani from talking to Miguelina and Dani must stay in her room. If I were Dani I would be pithed too. Greta has effectively locked Dani in a prison cell and that ain't right. Jus' sayin'

Thank you everyone! I had a lot of fun writing this recap. When I first watched this episode, I could not get past Pato's hair. It just made me laugh. I had to go back a couple of times just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. The same person who is doing Alexa's makeup must be doing Pato's hair.

Niecie, I agree that Silvana is the brains of the bad guy club. Pato is just too much of a macho-man to use his brains.

Diana, Matias is a cuties. He's way too good for Silvana. I hate to see him wasting his time pining over her.

I'm rooting for Armie to stand firm with Alexa. She's spoiled and needs to grow up. Unfortunately both his choices in women leave much to be desired. They are attractive, sure, but too high maintenance.

I forgot to add, here is a link to an article about Hasta and La Malquerida. The author likes one and hates the other:
http://www.welovesoaps.net/2014/09/telenovela-watch-manual-para-ser-feliz.html

Great article, thanks xlnt!

My favorite line from the article:

"Grow up, Univison!"

My thoughts exactly.

Their constant censorship is ludicrous.

That La Malquerida scene censored was a key scene to the overall novela and should have been left in. LM airs at 10pm for goodness sake!

Re: Dani's punishment

I actually did some research on the matter and this is what I found:

"When you take away something from a child as a punishment, you run the risk of making it seem more special. Food should not be used as a punishment or a reward. It is a symbol of nurturing, necessary for survival, and is best left unburdened by emotions that punishment and reward call up. When dessert is withheld, you send the message that the rest of the meal is less important — clearly, not what you want to suggest."

http://www.scholastic.com/parents/resources/article/praise-discipline/behavior-problems-discipline-works

Poor Dani. No internet. No computer. No phone. No dessert. What will the ogre take away next?

Cathy- Thanks for the link to RG's article. RG sometimes post comments on Caray Caray, by the way.

RG doesn't seem to hate LM, but points out some of the issues that come from Uni's cutting out character development and bonding scenes. I would disagree with RG about the lack of chemistry between characters, and even about the plot moving too fast. They did rush the "10 years ago" episodes, but I know many viewers often become frustrated/bored with that part of tns and want to just get on with the meat of the story in the here and now. Hasta el Fin del Mundo is choosing to do its "30 years ago" stuff in small flashbacks, and has gone the route of having characters mysteriously refer to these past events, while the audience pieces it together. But it also jumped right into the action of the here and now. Not too much of a difference in my mind. I'm enjoying both tns!

Let's be clear that Silvana is not intelligent/ smart by any means, she is conniving and clever. Her ruthless behavior is what allows her to plot and scheme as well as she does.

@Madelaine
I agree. Punishing a child by depriving them of food is evil. Did Greta use this same approach with Alexa? She has gone to extremes to punish Dani. She is not teaching Dani how to be open, honest, and communicative, rather, she is teaching Dani to live under a dictatorship. This will only allow for Dani to drift further away.
