Hasta el Fin del Mundo #44 20141016 A Tale of Three Dumb Daughters and the Mother who Spawned Them

So anyway, Greta is upset that her daughter lost her virginity, but Fausto encourages her to talk to Dani about it.  Times have changed, says the man that has no children.  Girls sleep around all the time now.  Encourage your high-school drop-out daughter to be loose. Whatever.

Greta takes Fausto’s advice and listens as her ditsy daughter blather on.  Greta gives Dani the “sex talk” and advises her to be monogamous.  Dani assures her that she and her boyfriend love one another and that they used protection.  Dani asks how Greta felt when she had sex with Octavio because all teenagers want to know about their parents having sex.  I know I did.  Yuck!  Greta remembers her first time with Paco and Sophia’s subsequent birth. Greta wants to meet the boy, but Dani says not yet.   Dani hugs her mother; they’ve bonded over the sex talk.

Across town, Lucas tells his Miguelina, his grandmother, that he and his girlfriend are in love.  Luckily, he doesn’t subject her to the sex talk.  She tells him that turning his life around has rewarded him with love.  He tells her that she is his biggest joy.  She has been both mother and father to him.

Irma calls Renzi to let him know that she’s back in town.  Renzi tells Irma that all of the homeowners have been backing out (including her husband).  He wants her to find out who is convincing them not to sell.  She assures him that she will get right on it.

After cornering a woman on the street named Mrs. Abdula, Irma discovers that the neighbors think that the property value will eventually rise higher. Otherwise, why would Renzi want to buy up so many lots at once?  Irma tells Renzi who shares her finding with Jeronimo Peralta.  While Peralta and Renzi are talking on the phone, Isadora lets herself into Peralta’s office.  Isadora and Peralta are divorced because she’s a lush.  Isadora wants some money for a work of art that she is interested in.

Armando takes Alexa to the sleazy pawnshop where Alan pawned the priceless family heirloom.  The owner tells Alexa that she will have to pay a prepayment penalty; he says that he explained that to the Spaniard when he pawned it.  Alexa protests and begins to cry and that upsets Armando.  Armando grabs the owner through the bars and tries to pull him through them.  The owner threatens to call the fuzz, but relents when Armando calls his bluff.  Armando says that he is sure that the cops will be very interested in learning about all of the other stolen stuff in the shop.  Alexa gets the necklace.  Later, Armando asks Alexa how long is she going to protect Alan.  He tells her that if a man doesn’t look after her, he doesn’t deserve her.

Alexa goes home and gives the necklace to her mother and apologizes for stealing it.  Greta blames herself for Alexa’s thieving ways.  She makes Alexa promise to make something out of herself when she returns to Madrid.  Octavio told Alexa that it was her destiny to be a great actress (obviously, he didn’t see the play).  Greta thinks that she’s a horrible mother, but Alexa assures her that she’s not.  They cry and hug. Greta tells Alexa that she believes in her.

Later, Alexa visits Dani’s room and tells her about Village Idiots dance at Cuco’s.  She mentions the mysterious lady that was there who looked like Dani’s clone.  Dani admits that she disguised herself because Lucas doesn’t know that she is a Ripoll.  He is a poor supremacist.  Dani is in a different kind of version of the Imitation of Life movie. Alexa advises Dani to tell him that she’s filthy rich while he’s kissing her.  Umm that didn’t work for the black girl in Imitation of Life and that may not work here.  Just sayin’.

Over at Ripoll, Silvana and Chava have returned from their engagement party excursion.  For some reason, Silvana asks Chava if he thinks Sophia is pretty.  Before he can answer the question, they are interrupted by Sophia and Patrick.  Sophia gives Chava the rest of the day off because Patrick’s giving her a ride home.  Patrick is having dinner with the Ripoll family tonight.  Patrick compliments Silvana on her choice of wine for the party.  Chava asks Patrick if he’s missing any more money.  After Patrick and Sophia leave, Silvana repeats her question.  Chava says that he’s not blind.  Sophia is cute, but her boyfriend is ugly.  He wasn’t referring to Patrick’s looks.

Araceli visits Chava and tells him that all charges have been dropped against him.  Patrick gave a statement to the police saying that Chava was an honest man.  They go into his bedroom to watch movies and eat ice cream.  No…really!  Side Note:  Is Chava gay?  He can’t kiss Sophia (even when she puts her lips on his lips) and he’s eating ice cream and watching movies with another woman (who placed her lips on his lips) in his bedroom.  Meanwhile, Paco asks Lupe out to the movies.  He brings Marisol cookies and Lupe a box of Ripoll chocolates created with one of his recipes.

As Irma tucks him into bed, Nandito drops all kinds of dimes (spills his guts) on his dad.  The way Nandito tells the story, Armando took him out drinking at Cuco’s and then Armando dropped his pants and stripped for the women in the club.  Irma is in a rage (as usual), but calms down after Armando explains that he and four other men filled in for Lupita because she sprained her ankle.  Armando tells Irma that he wishes that they could go back to how they used to be.  She says that the can.  They cuddle.

Over on Snob Hill, Patrick and Greta are in the den discussing the black mail letter and Sophia’s parentage.  Patrick assures her that no other letters have arrived.  He’s been personally intercepting the mail at Ripoll.  They are interrupted by Sophia heard the last sentence.  She wants to know what they are talking about.  Patrick tells her that he’s been checking the mail o see who has RSVP’d for their private engagement party.  Greta wants to invite her art society, some board members and a lady’s club.  Patrick says no, they want it to be intimate.  Greta quickly agrees and leaves them alone.

At the door, Patrick tells Sophia that he always knew that Greta would change her mind about him.  Sophia is still surprised that Greta likes him.  Patrick asks if Sophia loves/likes him.  Sophia day dreams about the day she saw Chava hug Araceli in the hall way of Ripoll.  Patrick asks her again.  She doesn’t answer, but kisses him and goes upstairs.  Before Patrick can leave, Greta whispers his name and they go back into her office.

Patrick tells Greta that he will always take care of the family.  He’s hired a private eye who has been watching both Snob Hill and Ripoll.  He cautions her that she will have to pay for the blackmailer’s silence.

Days later, Chava and Armando go to the race track to apply for part-time jobs, but there’s no work.  On the day of the engagement party, Miguelina almost collapses before leaving for work.  Lupe tells Marisol to get over Lucas and move on.  The party begins and Alexa appears in a butt ugly dress at the top of the stairs.

Corazon Salvaje or Xlnt, can you recap tomorrow? I won't be back online until Saturday morning.

I think it is so dumb to encourage you teenage daughter to sleep around. Teenagers are dumb. This is not going to end well, I can tell. Cuss me out all that you want. I can take it. I won't respond to your comments until Saturday.

Sophia is wearing the ugliest dress that I have ever seen.

Sophia's dress was an OMG. Almost something that a hooker would wear. I was surprised that she would wear something like that since she plays a very buttoned up conservative character.

Cynderella, thanks for the most wonderful recap. The tone and asides were perfect as was your title.

Is Daniela going to be the recipient of the obligatory out of wedlock whoopsie pregnancy in this one as her mother once was? Did we ever find out if she and Lucas used "protection" in the midst if her exuberance? Will it be like mother like daughter?

Pato is doing a good job keeping the ruse going with Greta.

Irma is doing such a poor job getting her neighbors to sell. They are so much more savvy than she.

Will Alan ruin the engagement party by showing his ugly swollen face and uglier personality?

If Sofía woukd only wake up an d trust her own gut. If things seem off, it is because thet are off. Nice does not have to be stupid.

Cynderella, exceptional snark as always, starting with the title. This was fantastic.

"Dani asks how Greta felt when she had sex with Octavio because all teenagers want to know about their parents having sex. I know I did. Yuck!" was another great line. "Octavio told Alexa that it was her destiny to be a great actress (obviously, he didn’t see the play)"; "Village Idiots dance" and my favorite "Nandito drops all kinds of dimes (spills his guts) on his dad" were excellent.

Totally agree that "Encourage your high-school drop-out daughter to be loose" is not the best tactic.

“He tells her that she is his biggest joy. She has been both mother and father to him”. I’m glad to see Lucas finally appreciates Miguelina. The little ingrate has a lot more atoning to do as far as I am concerned though - he isn't off the hook yet.

Why is Marisol heartbroken over someone who has told her the truth from day 1, he has a girlfriend and has totally rebuffed her advances, telling her repeatedly they are only friends?? Have a little dignity girl.

I'd love to see Matias with someone. I had thought it might be Marisol but they seem to be friends plus Chava would be in a snit. Also not sure about the age difference?

I mentioned yesterday that it would be nice if there were a bit more sizzle between Sophia and Chava. Chaste kisses are nice but I think the lead couple should have a bit more fireworks if we are to be enthused for them.

Still want Greta and Paco to meet. Just not feeling he and Lupe...

Jarifa, "Will Alan ruin the engagement party by showing his ugly swollen face and uglier personality?" HA! I guess we will have to wait and see.

Thanks Cynderella, this was fantastic.

Diana

Diana and Cynderella, you are both right about Chava and Sofía and the kisses. They are both so tentative I wonder if they will ever get together. Chava should just go for it. Is Sofía going to fire him? Better be fired than watch her marry Patricio. It just might wake her up.

Hilarious, Cyn! I was asleep for the first half, so I'm enjoying having your version of events in my head.

So, did Dani confirm that she used protection? Was Lucas walking around with condoms on hand? If so, well done young man. I wish they would have shown Dani at least asking him the question before they began their roll in the hay.

I have to agree about that dress Sofia wore to her engagement party. It was a cross between ramera-wear, mother of the bride chic, and a figure skating outfit (minus the sparkles). Where did she even find it?!

I was laughing out loud at that ugly dress Sophia wore,it was just ughh ,Catwoman like. All she needs is to wear a mask! Also i have some theories for you,on some i wont get too deep on them to avoid spoilers:

1. Silvana will get romantically involved ( Married?) with Matias at some point in the story,to make herself look as the victim of the grand scheme.

2. Lupe will get a makeover ,maybe they will make her teeth look a bit better and her hair a bit more prettier,She might also get romantically get involved with Paco to piss off Greta when she inevitably begins doing search actions on Him!

3. Lucas and Isadora ( Former wife of Mr.Boss) are related by blood. It would make no sense to build the story around Lucas's missing mother if she wasnt already there in the story somehow and Isa pretty much is quite a mysterious one.

Cynderella – Your recap is a blast. Where else can I come for great snark and a pithy riff on Imitation of Life? My fave:

Girls sleep around all the time now. Encourage your high-school drop-out daughter to be loose. Whatever.

Octavio told Alexa that it was her destiny to be a great actress (obviously, he didn’t see the play).

In Greta's day, unwanted pregnancy was the biggest scare for a teenage girl. Today, there are STDs that can cause you to require medication for a lifetime, if you’re fortunate, and put a healthy pregnancy at risk. Any show, even a comedy, that displays teenage sex without addressing pitfalls should hang its head. As I understand it, most young women who watch TNs watch them side by side with their mother. Here's to the moms out there that gave their daughters the real 411 on first-time sex when Dani and Lucas had their perfect frolic.

I thought for sure Sofia descending the staircase at the party was somebody's fantasy, maybe Silvana's. If it's real, then it's a cry for help. Cause Sofia has certainly gone overboard with that dress in trying to pretend that she’s happy to marry Patricio.

Not trying to be a wet blanket, but I see lots of fun coming as Chava and Sofia zoom in on each other -- but no fireworks. I just don't see the makings of sizzle with these two.

My guess is that Armando and Alexa will generate the fireworks. They're moving in slow, but I like the way Armando is giving Irma her place [I'm looking at you, Arriaga]. Though it seems Irma will screw up this support from her husband with all her baby daddy lying and trying to sell out the neighborhood.

Maybe Matias with Areceli? Once she realizes it’s not happening with Chava.

Cynderella, thanks for doing this recap! I will do tonight's recap.

For those that asked, yes, Dani did say they used protection. I'm with you Cyn, mothers should not be encouraging sexual activity for their UNDERAGED daughters. I noticed Dani was wearing her "Hello, I'm a hooker" outfit later on in the episode. Another thing that bothered me is that Dani's (literal) first roll in the hay was so "wonderful". For most women the first time is less than wonderful; it's awkward, scary, clumsy, or regrettable.

Have you noticed that Sofia has never, ever told Pato that she loves him? I think wearing a black dress to your own engagement party is rather telling as well.

Alan was at the party, he was sitting on the couch when Fausto was serving wine. From what I could see his face didn't look messed up.

Niecie, I have the same thought that Matias should end up with Araceli. They would make a good couple.

And i cannot take my eyes from Roberto Palazuelos / Renzi ,i know he is a villian but he is too cute and funny for me :)

They showed Greta and Paco having sex during their young days ?

Univision needs to stop censoring all of the love scenes; Televisa, I believe, shows it all.

Cynderella, I can recap.

Xlnt, How about we tagteam on this? I can do the second half (6:30-7:00) and you do the first half (6:00-6:30)

Bold prediction: Marisol and Lucas will be together in the end! #HeardItHereFirst.
