Gran Estreno de Amores con trampa- lunes el 30 de marzo 8/7C
Disclaimer: Most likely there won't be any recaps for this TN, but I really hated the thought of Caray not doing anything for the first week of a prime-time novela. Below is the sinopsis and a few character descriptions. If you would like to have at least a discussion post for the first week, please leave a comment. If the response is underwhelming, then we can forgo even a discussion.
Personal note: Ernesto Laguardia has stated in an interview that he is happy to be a part of a production that carries a message of family unity and responsible pet adoption/ownership. On the ACT site of Televisa viewers are encouraged to share pictures of their pets. I just think this is cool.
Producer: Emilio Larrosa (I admit I know nothing about him except that he produced Hasta que el dinero nos separe.)

Sinopsis
Translated (sometimes loosely) from the Televisa website.
The Carmona family lives a peaceful and simple life in the country in a small pueblo located in the interior of the Mexican Republic. The family owns important mineral mines in the region. They are forced to move to the city after the government buys their extensive property for a huge sum.
The family is made up of Facundo(Eduarda Yañez)y María(África Zavala). Together they have four children: Alberto-21, Carmen Gloria "Yoya"-18, Susana-14 and Jacinto-10. Arriving in the city, they will deal with problems adapting to city life which will also create problems within the family as they grow homesick and wish to return to their old life in the country.
We also have the Velasco family, the elegant and sophisticated neighbors in the upscale area where the Carmonas come to live. The Velasco family is made up of Isabel(Itatí Cantoral) and Santiago(Ernesto Laguardia.) Santiago owns a bankrupt construction company. The couple care for their nieces and nephews Felipe-20, Rocío-18 and they also have their own child-a 14 year-old daughter named Alejandra.
The first conflict arises when the Carmonas arrive with their animals. The animals are practically people with a constant and important presence in the story. They cause damage to the Velasco home and thus begin the problems between neighbors.
As the story unfolds, Santiago discovers that Facundo is a millionaire and his investment could save the failing construction company. But Santiago is greedy. He convinces Isabel to seduce Fecundo so he'll keep investing more and more into the business. Our first amorous conflict arises.
Among the young adults there will also arise varios affairs and infatuations, the strongest being between Alberto and Rocío. Many lies and obstacles will stand in the way of their happily ever after.

María Sánchez de Carmona(África Zavala) The most beautiful woman in the pueblo, María's happy, bright, sharp, frank and open character was molded by her country life. The education she received in her humble home was one of obedience, integrity and prudence. She knows perfectly her place in life and what it means to be a married woman.
Santiago(Ernesto Laguardia) Head of the Velasco family. A villain par excellence. A cold and calculating businessman. Arrogant, haughty and proud.
Isabel Mayer de Velasco(Itatí Cantoral) An attractive woman who belongs to the highest strata of Mexican society. She is educated (which I'm choosing over well-mannered since that is yet to be determined) and correct. She's always preoccupied with dressing in the latest fashions. She is very superficial since she pays attention to economic statuses and surrounds herself with people of her social class.
Nora Salinas will play Stephanie, who will do some villainy to the Carmona family.
Agustín Arana will play Lorenzo, a wealthy ranchero who will join up with the Carmonas.
Ignacio Lopez Tarso will play 'Porfirio', the grandfather.

Thanks so much, Sara! I'm in the mood for a comedy, so I'll check this out. Plus I think EY and Itati have great comedic timing. I'm interested to know of EY's character is supposed to remain with his wife, or actually fall for the rich snobby neighbor. I'm going to have to work to buy Africa playing the mother of a 21 and 18 year old. :)
I must be so used to crappy casting age-wise, that I didn't even think twice about it. Worse, I'm even buying into it.

Oh, for now they are saying that this should end in August in Mexico. I'm hoping that holds true and this doesn't become a looooong comedy.

I will most likely start watching. My husband likes EY and IC, so he might watch too. It will be interesting to get his opinion on the show. If we don't have a recapper I hope we can at least get a discussion page.

I get the Beverly Hillbillies vibe, too. EY looks like he's going to be hybrid of Jed and Jethro.
And like Vivi, I'm very curious to see where they go with the couples. Right now I can't believe they would have people not stay with their spouses. I'm mainly thinking of the Maria character. I guess I can see Santiago ending up spouseless. But then Big Ed comes off as kind of a bad guy.
Guess I better just watch the show.

Silliness is what I think I have trouble with in the comedies. I'm getting better though! I like Silliness but I've seen some things that just look stupid. Or maybe I shouldn't judge a comedy by Osorio.
I did read a review from a Mexican source soon after the Mexican premiere that said Larrosa was a little heavy handed with the sound effects, but that maybe he would tone it down. Of course I can't seem to find the review now. I can't even remember the search terms I used to stumble onto the article.
Apparently this is getting good ratings in Mexico, but someone on Caray recently said that means you should run. Lol.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed too, doris. I feel like a comedy will really refine some of my listening and comprehension skills. Understanding the humor is really hard for me. I miss lots of jokes, but I'm hoping to improve.
Diana- I'm hoping we can all work together to help understand thing. Hopefully not having recaps won't be too bad. And if Vivi is on board she can really be a blessing. We won't miss a detail with her around.

All the talk got me curious, so I went ahead and watched the first episode online. I won't say anything to spoil it for you, but it's just too silly for me. I'll pass on it but I hope you, guys, at least get a weekly discussion page, like Quiero amarte.
I admit I saw the first 20 minutes on uvideos and YouTube (Uni did a little editing... Which was probably good.)
I'm going to sound ugly, but the first 20 minutes of ACT looked less silly than the 5 minutes of MCET that I saw last night. I really didn't get the appeal of MCET, but as I've said repeatedly, I have these really bizarre tastes. Which probably just means I have no taste. Lol.
I'm also trying to be better about not being too quick to judge. I know I almost missed QA because of that and missed way too much of La Malquerida as well.
And who am I kidding? Eduardo Yañez shirtless in the opening credits! (if they use those.)

But then I know a mother of two, who's also a defense attorney in juvenile court, who's always being mistaken for a teenager. Maybe Africa's character is just one of those lucky people who look 20 years younger!

Hey, Sara. Thanks for this introduction. I do not like the tn comedies because they are too broad for my taste, but I love Big Ed who reminds me of my Big Mike, and I am a fan of Africa and Ernesto.I first saw Africa in LM and thought she did a terrific job. She is strikingly beautiful and half Big Ed's age, but I will get some strong pulleys on my next trip to the hardware store to suspend my disbelief. I loved ERnesto as the fallen padre and Fernando Colunga'sbest bud in Alborada.I'm in for The Beverly Hillbillies Go South of the Border.

I think I'm genetically predisposed to like this...mi abuelo was a farmer from a small Galician town who made his way al otro lado and lived in many places (Argentina and New York City among them) before settling down in Orlando to become...a farmer.
I really like África. If anyone can pull off the role, she can.

I thought he had a wonderful comic touch in Amores verdaderos where he played even the most ridiculous scenes as if he meant them and without any of the mugging and overacting that can be so unfunny. (In the preview of this one, he delivers a calf with a fieldside manner that could teach some OBs a thing or two.)

I'll likely watch too, watched MCET and liked it, silliness and all. Hope there is at least a discussion board.
I read somewhere that they weren't expecting the cow to give birth in the scene, but she started to go into labor, and they/Ed decided to go with it.

Okay, I've been lurking for ages but I always have to reappear when Big Ed is around. I do wish for the usual wonderful recaps but a discussion page would be fun. My Spanish skills are deteriorating since I haven't been able to become too excited about many of the novelas. I think I bailed out of La Malqerida too soon and La Sombra is on too early but seems like an interesting novela. Eduardo usually is great enthusiastic actor and I loved many of his roles especially Destilando Amor and La Verdad Oculta and I even enjoyed Amores Verdaderos too.

Apropos of nothing- I just saw a promo for ACT on Univsion (Se lo juro que Sabado Gigante is just background noise) and I'm not sure but I think saw Itati wearing the green and pink dress that was seen in Robo, PSMA and La Impostora!!

Was going to start watchimg the one at 10:00 now that MCET is over. However, I think its too far into the story and I don't have time to play catch up. I won't be able to watch ACT if there isn't at least a discussion page, though.

Before STud I had never watched anything regularly. Many, many shows were on my "radar" starting in 2005. That was the year I moved from teaching Spanish to 1st-5th graders to *gasp!* high school. Alborada was airing at the time and I was fascinated that it was an historical show...but I never really "watched" it. I was intrigued enough to buy the DVD.
Pasion was soon after and I distinctly remember watching an episode and checking the recap to double check how much I understood considering I hadn't been watching from the beginning.
So Cuidado con el angel, Destilando amor, Al diablo con los guapos, FELS and others were all on my radar (I knew they were airing and every once in a while I peeked in), but I never watched regularly until one night I tuned into STuD and for some reason was hooked.
Of all the shows to finally drag me in, right? Told you-I have questionable taste.
But to make a long answer even longer...
No, I didn't watch FELS. But I did catch scenes here and there as well as scenes from DA and I can say that Eduardo Yañez has major charisma because he really stood out to me.
So I know I lurked at least once during Pasion. I can't recall if I was a regular luker. ;-)

Pasion was soon after and I distinctly remember watching an episode and checking the recap to double check how much I understood considering I hadn't been watching from the beginning.
So Cuidado con el angel, Destilando amor, Al diablo con los guapos, FELS and others were all on my radar (I knew they were airing and every once in a while I peeked in), but I never watched regularly until one night I tuned into STuD and for some reason was hooked.
Of all the shows to finally drag me in, right? Told you-I have questionable taste.
But to make a long answer even longer...
No, I didn't watch FELS. But I did catch scenes here and there as well as scenes from DA and I can say that Eduardo Yañez has major charisma because he really stood out to me.
So I know I lurked at least once during Pasion. I can't recall if I was a regular luker. ;-)
I didn't start commenting in earnest until STuD.
Nanette- I understand about stories being to far gone to start watching. To this day I still don't understand how I managed to get pulled into STuD even though I had missed so much. I prefer to catch shows from the very beginning.

I've seen still shots of Big Ed in CS and I will have to go against the grain and say I prefer a shorter cut on him. Same goes for Sebastian Rulli and Wiliam Levy.
FC rocked the long hair/goatee in Alborada and I was so disappointed when I saw my first picture of him clean shaven and with short hair. FC in Alborada is for me TBLMOE. FC in "street gear" not so much.

There seems to be interest + 1 possible recapper (THANK YOU NOVELAMAVEN) and one viewer with an encyclopedic brain (Vivi!)
I really don't like the thought of asking anyone to commit to anything at this point.
I will put up a Joe Friday Summary (just the facts) post on Monday evening after the premiere. I live in the Central Time zone so keep that in mind if you are on the west coast.
We can comment, discuss, review and pass judgement during the week and then get together again next weekend to discuss what we want to do. (Hmmm. That is Passover/Easter weekend...Sorry about that timing.)
If after two weeks we feel like we want to keep watching, I can e-mail Jane and ask if we can do a call for recappers (with MCET recappers having priority since this show replaces theirs.)
What say you all?

Sara - a discussion page, like the T'mundo ones often have, is fine with me. I"m not sure I will like ACT, or even have time for a second telenovela. And then there is Avenida Brasil on T'mundo that I would like to try....

I find I am less tolerant of comedies. This is the first one that I've really been excited about. It's the Big Ed and piglet factor.
It's my impression that people are usually most gun shy of the comedies. But I could be wrong.

Sara..yikes..going from teaching elementary to secondary. That has to be a shock. I taught in a senior high before going to the community college to teach foreign students..what a dramatic change.
Looks like things are shaping up.
The draw for me is Big Ed and Africa...the piglet, not so much. My dad raised pigs for awhile. They are stinky and scary. I used to have nightmares about them getting out of their pen.

My gradmother (from Alabama) tells a story about abuelo waking up from a nightmare where he was screaming "¡Vacas en cama!" He had dreamed that all the cows had managed to get into the family side of the house.
(OT: the family still has that house and my cousin in Spain has shared some lovely pictures of the restoration project they are doing)

Sara..I can remember my textbook in college for a history of civilization course. My best friend and I got a chuckle when the author explained that the family sometimes shared the same space as the livestock. I will say that the characters feel more like they come from Mexican comedies like La Hora Pico and Derbez en Cuando than from telenovelas, even for a comedic telenovela.

Interesting to see there are already 71 comments for tn that hasnt even started, and several might not watch. I have a feeling it might capture more us. I am not into comedies, but although I like EY and I'm curious to see Africa play a mother to someone so close to her own age.

Sara: watched STuD (this was the TN I discovered Caray). It had two of my favs, Lucero and FC. My first TN was MEPS. Flaco kept going on and on about it so I tuned in. I missed about six weeks. Caught those eps when it re-aired a couple of years later. QTP is already about nine weeks in, I think.

If this one doesn't work out for me, will probably wait for Hasta's replacement. Or start FELS online

Sara, I am remaining optimistic. I watched the first few minutes and saw the calf being born. This city girl never had seen that before eventhough I have seen piglets being born. I am "saving" the rest for tonight. From what I can find the show has been received very well in Mexico which of course meas little because humor is so subjective between people let alone between cultures.

Did you watch the first few minutes on UVideos? I watched the calf being born on YouTube and got a little queasy. I think UVideos has edited out the worst part for our delicate US senses (*eyeroll*)

And in light of Jarocha's comment about it being different from usual TN comedies, I really look forward to hearing from the folks that prefer the comedies.
Mike and I watched this one tonight. We're 'unsure.' We'll probably give it a try, which for us means we'll end up hooked and watch it all.

IMLBO (In my low-brow opinion) there is no such thing as "too hee-haw."

I'm so glad to hear that there will be at least some recaps on this one! Although I don't have any trouble following the Spanish dialogue it's so much fun to read the recaps and all the comments! Makes my day! I've just watched the first episode and loved it. I always know how much I've been enjoying an episode when I'm really shocked to find that it's ending much more quickly than I can believe!
