Comments:
Absolutely NONE of the La Gata noms should be there. NONE.

As much as I liked the Chácharas character, he was irrelevant and Patricio Castillo deserves better than that.

I suspect that despite YNCELH having the most nominations, Robo will sweep the awards.

I'm curious, UA... Which ones did you bail on and which one has you scratching your head?

I think LQLVMR will do a sweep.

Jarifa

It's really a shame that this awards show can't air live in the US. I would love to watch it and if carefully planned they could still show non-spoiler clips.

And thank you for posting this UA.

Nice to see La Malquerida nominees, and the actors of LQLVMR were fine though the story veered off the road. I take the La Gata nominations as a joke.

The joke's on the public. I fear Latoodle will interpret the nominations as approval.

I hope YNCELH wins. I still remember that year when they awarded quality over ratings and gave it to PVAA. They need to do that again.

Jarocha

I'm dying to see YNCELH!

I am STUNNED that La Gata has ANY nominations. STUNNED. I'm afraid Sara is right; Latoodle WILL interpret this as approval of her pathetic show. I can't believe I am even writing the name of "the show that should not be named"!!

I've not seen anything except MCET, Robo, and Malquerida.

Alberto Estrella simply has to get it for male villain. I think Sendel and Ayala cancel each other out. Estrella was his very own class of villain and the other two, as despicable as they were, do not match Estrella's work.

I think if Sendel doesn't watch out, he might become a caricature of himself. I don't think that will happen with Ayala given what he is doing on Sombra and his work on Robo. They are two very distinct kinds of villains.

Castro will probably get it for female villain, but again, that is my VERY narrow perspective not having seen the other nominated TN.

I am VERY surprised that MCET is nominated for best TN. I think Jorge Salinas acting is what is keeping this show together. He is rising above the director's shenanigans and carrying the show. I've said it before and will say it again, this was not a part that shows off Silvia's Navarro's talent.

I'd like to see Africa Zavala, Margarita Magana, and Fabian Robles win for their respective groups.

To name Perroni and Arenas as contenders for a prize just boggles the mind. They did NOT act.

I don't know about the male leads, but I suspect Rulli is strongly in the lead.

Guzman should get it for his category (again, limited viewing on my part). He made me run the gamut of emotions when relating to his character.

La Gata was and is a joke that should have never been perpetrated upon Viewerville.

Fatima

I'm willing to look the other way about the nomination for Maite, but not for Dan.

You are a generous person, Sara! I will admit that, in this one instance, I cannot be so generous. If gringo reads this, he will be disappointed, but I just can't help it!

Fatima

Well part of the reason I'm looking the other way is for gringo. ;)

And where the heck is Pierre Louis on this list?

I really wish Uni had shown Yo No Creo en Los Hombres and El Color de la Pasion so that we could have a better picture of what the competition looks like. We've heard nothing but good things about these two tns, so it's no surprise that they've dominated the nominations.

ITA that the Gata nominations have to be a joke. No one got any material to work with in that tn to make it anywhere near one of their best performances. And I LIKE most of those actors. Even though I don't think Mi Corazon es Tuyo is SN's greatest work, the fact is it's had high ratings on both sides of the border, and SN showed some amazing dedication to learn how to really pole dance for this role. She at least should be swapped out for Maite in the best actress nominations, but I see the snub of her continues for awards or even nominations.

I also agree that Robo will probably win a lot of the categories, having been very popular and having stars who are very popular. Loved the theme song too.

Among theme song nominations, I think the Mi Corazon Tuyo song is cute, but should be replaced by the La Malquerida song, which was lovely and haunting.

I'd take all the nominations for La Gata out.

The best telenovela category is actually almost great, Televisa had an excellent crop of novelas in 2014. I'd just take out MCET and add La Malquerida instead.

It seems the patio wasn't fond of Silvia Navarro in MCET but I still think she is more deserving of a nom than Maite Perroni, sorry Sara.

I'd bump off Mayrín Villanueva off the best villain category and add Rosa María Bianchi. Then I'd give Bianchi's place in the legendary award to Luz María Jeréz, also for YNCELH, as that was the biggest snub of the night for me.

I quite like the best young actress category but best young actor is missing Diego de Erice for QPTR and Jesús Carús from YNCELH, Juan Pablo Gil and Jose Eduardo Derbez are taking their spots.

I'd take out Juan Carlos Colombo and Salvador Sánchez off the best supporting actor and add Pedro de Tavira for YNCELH and Ferdinando Valencia for LQLVMR.

I'd also take out Arturo Peniche off the co-starring actor and add Guillermo García Cantú for La Malquerida. I don't know if that's the right place for him but he should be nominated somewhere.

I'd add the La Malquerida and YNCELH music themes instead of the MCET and Quiero Amarte ones. MCET's theme annoys me and while the lyrics for the QA theme are beautiful, the singers sound like they are whining to me.

Jarocha

Oh I only said I'd look the other way in the Maite nomination. Lol. I don't agree with it.

I feel like not nominating the La Malquerida sing as a snub.

And yes! Diego del Erice should be there!

Song not sing.

Jarocha- I am so glad you're weighing in, since you have firsthand knowledge of the tns we didn't see. I agree with the switched nominations you suggested from La Malquerida and Que Pobres, and I'm sure you're on point about the suggestions from Yo No Creo en Los Hombres and El Color.

I think the patio would take a great liking to El Color de la Pasión. I remember being stranded on a bus station and all the people in the waiting room were so quiet watching the tv without even noticing who entered the room, it was eerie, they were all watching ECDLP.

YNCELH is very dark and raw so it might put off some but the quality and pacing is so good.

Jarocha

This conversation is a perfect example of why I get annoyed with Uni. This is an across borders conversation about two shows that did well in Mexico and Uni will still stick us with Amores con Trampa.

And there are plenty of slots where Uni can put the lower rated shows and not have to edit them. What's more disrespectful to LM, showing the WHOLE thing at midnight or chopping it up to get it out of primetime faster?

Unfortunately Uni is convinced that the US audience is only watching for certain actors.

I'll watch anyone as long as the story and directing are good.

As much as I hated the midnight slot for Para Volver a Amar, I am so glad they did that instead of chopping it up! I still can't believe Uni chose to show PVAA at midnight when it was one of the most talked about and highly rated tns in Mexico that year, and swept the awards! There really is no rhyme or reason for their decisions sometimes.

I admit I love telenovelas rosas, but I'm just as interested in dark and raw as well.

Agree, Vivi. The midnight slot can seem a bit like a snub, but in the age of DVRs it's not as much of a death sentence. And I would ALWAYS rather see the entirety of a show the way the director and producer intended.

I enjoyed LM and Robo in that order, and I am now watching Sombra...so far, so good.

How do shows qualify? Sombra began in 2014, didn't it?

Silvia Navarro snubbed again, go to Telemundo Silvia!
And then they nominate Maite Perroni & Daniel Arenas for La Gata. What are they thinking, obviously nothing.

Sara- If I remember correctly it's something about the percentage of the tn that's been shown in that year. Something like over 75% or some such (don't remember exact amount) has to have been shown in the year it's nominated, and Sombra hasn't reached that threshold to qualify for 2014. It will be included in 2015.

Sorry to disagree with you Fatima.
You may/might not like the (show that shall not be named) but there is no need to take frustration out on the cast. Maite
did a good job with what that terrible writer gave her. Maite forever!
the gringo

Thanks Vivi!

After Corazon indomable, I knew I wouldn't be able to stomach La Gata,
which one do you think was worse?

Up to CI I always classified Fuego en la sangre as the #1 worst novela, but next to CI it is Academy Award material. I suspect La Gata was even worse.

What is Sombra?

Variopinta- La Sombra del Pasado just started two weeks ago and replaced Gata. It's dark, dramatic, and very good so far. It's a remake of El Manantial.

Fuego actually had some chemistry and a certain je ne sais quoi that made it entertaining (it's another one that caught my attention despite not actually watching TNs at the time... Or was it on right before STuD?)

CI started out entertaining but got boring quick (I can say the same for Marimar.)

La Gata had 5 good scenes. That's it.

I just looked up episode counts for YNCELH and ECDLP. Both were 121 episodes according to Wikipedia. La Sombra is going to be short, too.

I like this trend.

I only saw one or two of these but my favs were Daniela Castro ("Lo Que La Vida Me Robó") Alberto Estrella ("La Malquerida") and Fabián Robles ("La Malquerida").

Robo was great but LM was amazing.

Excellent topic UA. Thank you.

Diana

Africa Zavala ("La Malquerida") Arturo Peniche ("Que Pobres Tan Ricos") were my favorites.

And yes, omitting the LM song was a travesty.

Diana

ECDELP had the perfect amount of episodes.

I actually think YNCELH could have lasted longer the number of episodes was decided on how close the filming was to the airing.

The producer Giselle González decided that all the scenes should be done by memory instead of using the ear piece that is generally used to accelerate the shooting process by having the lines being told to the actors through it while they record a scene. This helped actors who hadn't shined before to give performances I never thought they would be able to do (ahem, Gabriel Soto) but it also made the shooting process much slower, by the time they got to the finale they ended up shooting almost thirty hours straight and finished a few hours before the finale aired on tv. Adriana Louvier, who had to also spent all sunday night in the finale event they do for the press and network and then went to Hoy the next morning for the special they did on the show looked ready to faint at the end of it.

Jarocha

I have to put in a few comments about Quiero Amarte, our afternoon delight.

Good solid writing, directing, locations, costumes. Good solid acting from all the actors.

But Salvador Sanchez for Supporting Actor? Puleeze, spare us. We are all so happy when there is a Cipriano-free episode. Give the slot to Andres Mercado (Deliciously cute Ivan) or Jean Paul Geroux (Tall dark and Oooh LaLa Handsome Jorge). Cip was and is a terribly flawed, despicable character. He was not a supporting actor by any means of the imagination and really should be up there with the villains.

The two best villains I've seen in a long time, one male, one female are in Quiero Amarte. Legendary Diana Bracho and Flavio Medina (wha..is he doing double duty in YNCELH?). Diego Amozurrutia and Salvador Zerboni are earning their pay as second-string villains.

Jarocha--Luz Maria Jerez is doing a sterling job in a supporting role in QA.

Renata Notni (of Amorcito Corazon and QBA) has had to stretch her acting over a wide range of highly emotional situations from being in love to dealing with an abusive father, losing her mother and being kidnapped. Her performance is way above average. She just turned 20, too, and ought to be considered for a young actors award.

I didn't enjoy watching LQLVMR, even though I didn't miss any episodes--and I loved their theme song. I love QA, but am not too keen on the theme song. I hope LQ...wins.

I'm with all the folks shaking forks (as in pitchforks) at UNI for settling on nominations for telenovelas that haven't been shown here. At some point, with so many being MADE in FL, the Mexican audiences will start quejando that US audiences are seeing things before they do and still get nominated. That's life along the border, I guess.

Luis Roberto Guzman is my personal favorite for Co-Star actor.

Sara--I'm sorry you had to live through La Gata. At least you now have a frame of reference for what a BAD telenovela can be. I agree with FELS being #1 at the top of the list, but for those who weren't "exposed" to El Talisman, I guess CI can be left in 2nd place.

About Silvia Navarro being snubbed. She ought to be used to it by now. That certainly does nothing to detract from her outstanding abilities as a best-loved actress in Mexico. In fact, she should think about wearing it as a badge of honor--sort of like the people who ended up on Nixon's Enemies List--individuals who were all outstanding in their respective fields.

UA--Thanks for the opportunity to comment on these. I don't think I'm going to watch. I don't want any spoilers, but I will post the results over on Las Proximas (on a new Producer's Filmographies post) after the awards.

Anita- I agree that there's some great stuff happening in Quiero Amarte, and Cipriano/Salvador Sanchez is not among them. But glad that at least Elias Moreno/Mauro made it into the nominations, and although I haven't seen his work in the tn he was nominated for, glad to see Flavio Medina made it too. If he's as good as he is in QA and was in Amor Bravio, then it's well deserved.

I'm also pleased that Mauro got a nod.

I have to say Cip is a pig, but the acting job is a good one.

I saw Salvador de one of the intros on that TN music special a few months ago and he was really charming. I think of it every time I see him being Cip.

Thanks for that info on YNCELH, Jarocha. I had read that they were still filming right up to the day of the Fin.

I love that the actors had to memorize their lines. In my book that means the writers had to think and plan ahead.

I would really like it to become a habit that TNs are planned out and I really wish they would just stop doing extensions. I don't care how good the ratings are.

Sara- Money is what any television network/business in the world is about. If they can make money on extending a popular tn, they are going to do it. Quality be damned. Just like tv shows here that go on two or three seasons beyond their "best by" date.

I know. But a girl can dream can't she?

ECDLP is amazing and I suspect YNCELH is going to be as well.

To be honest, these awards are a joke and always have been but more so lately where the highest rated is the one that wins all the awards. If LQLVMR does a sweep, it couldn't be any clearer.

Silvia Navarro is lucky to be as far away form this as possible.

The awards are like the viewing public in Mexico, if you see a novela has high ratings over there, run, run as far as you can because that is the worst novela of the year 9 times out of 10.

Quiero Amarte has been, and continues to be, a gem but the ratings for it Mexico were the lowest ever for the time slot, coincidence?

As many say, it definitely boggles the mind.

I apologize beforehand because I know she has fans, Angelique Boyer cannot act. She can't and Robo didn't give her material to try to act either. She's going to need a lot of supporting roles before she hones any skill like Africa Zavala (who started off as a joke of an actress and look at her now in LM).

If no songs can be omitted, LM and YNCELH should be added to the best opening theme list, they had the best opening credits and songs.

*I can't understand why ECDLP can't be on at 8pm instead of Amores con Trampa. If Dos Hogares and Libre Para Amarte are ANY indication, La Rosa lost his touch*

Superalfie - all we've gotten about Amores con trampas is a "muy pronto."

No date or anything. I would not be surprised if Uni made a last minute change.

In my current issue of TV y novelas, the ratings of TNs are

Dueños del paraiso 4*
Los mis 4 1/2 *
Hasta el fin del mundo 3 1/2 *
Que te perdone Dios 4 *

"La gata" 4 1/2 * por favor!!!!

I think this tells us that Los Mejia know where the body is buried.

I am always amazed at their ratings every month.

Hard to understand that Mex & US taste would be that different in the novela world.

?Donde esta Fernando Colunga? mi amor

This is probably subject for another post, but I'm trying to figure out how Televisa seems to have cornered the TN market.

Telemundo simetimes takes risks story wise, but production value is sometimes meh.

Televisa seems to be nothing but remakes and even the few original ones still have a sort of cardboard quality. (not to mention the overly plastic females.)

Both networks tend to have acting that leans more toward charicature.

I've seen a couple productions in the last year that put Televisa to shame. My husband knows nothing about TNs, but almost always makes a "this isn't a Univision TN is it?" when I'm watching something else.

And I don't think it's the genre. Televisa put out some classics in the past (I'm talking 30+ years.)

But it's all about money and I know I'm still watching Televisa so I'm as much to blame. Lol.

Sara, not sure if this is still the case, but there used to be large areas of the US where Univisión was the only Spanish language station available. I only watch Telemundo novelas, preferring the more realistic story lines. But I've seen some people comment that they don't get Telemundo.

Sara- Mexico is the largest, most populace country in Latin America with one of the biggest economies. Ditto for Brazil. In Mexico, Televisa is the largest of the networks/studios. So it's a simple numbers game. They have the largest market share, largest number of tns produced each year, largest foreign reach, biggest exposure.

I think simply by the fact that it has SO many tns coming out each year, some of it's going to be crap and some of it's going to be good. Just like what comes out of Hollywood. I have seen some of the best tns that I love from Televisa and some of the worst that I hate. Once again, just a numbers game. I've seen fewer that I love, and fewer that I hate from Telemundo. Again, just a matter of numbers. But I have to say the Miami filming does nothing for me. It feel flat and cheap, not expansive like the tns filmed in Mexico and other countries that benefit from amazing natural beauty and sprawling haciendas. We've seen some great Brazilian tns here because they produce so damn many, and only the best of the best get picked to be shown here the few times they choose to show Brazilian tns.

But I'm thinking in Mexico that the Televisa novelas dominate the ratings as well.

I changed cable companies so I could get Telemundo and an added bonus was several Spanish channels so I have a lot more variety now.

I agree that Telemundo has much better storylines.

Yes, gringo, I knew you would not be pleased, but it certainly is not about taking it out on the cast. I simply didn't see any true acting from Perroni. Granted, the material was not good. She was also not so hot in "Triunfo del Amor" which was not great in the material department.

I think she and her agent need to really look at her next choices in parts. I, for one, would like her to choose a part that shows that she does have talent.

Jarocha, your comments and observations are SO welcome. I always learn so much from you re the TN "process" in Mexico. It is absolutely fascinating to me.

I especially agree with your observation that Guilllermo Garcia-Cantu should have been nominated. He was excellent in La Malquerida.

Fatima

I would really like to see Televisa do a little introspection though and take the risk of lower ratings while they improve.

My top favorite TN is Cuna de lobos and after that is probably PVAA. After that there's not another Televisa on my top 5 list.

Every TN I hate is Televisa and my #1 fave is really old Televisa. Granted I haven't been watching long, but present day Televisa has not knocked my socks off. Not even La Malquerida because I dislike Maier and Ariadne as actors.

Sara- Televisa has the largest market share in Mexico, much larger than Azteca. It's sort of like the relationship between Univision and Telemundo where Uni is available in more places.

Fatima you have to try to see Cachito de Cielo (OK one more Televisa for me top 5...I think the same producer as YNCELH.) Perroni was pretty good in that.

Yes I know Televisa is huge. That doesn't mean they should keep putting out crap and having this "we're the only real game in town. Let them eat cake." attitude.

They put out a good product and it doesn't break records and they wait an eternity to try something new again.

Well, Meier came over from Telemundo for LM. I first saw him in a Telemundo tn I really enjoyed (which was a remake), Alguien te Mira. Then saw him in another good Telemundo tn that was a re-run, Dona Barbara.

I watch both Uni/Televisa and Telemundo and enjoy them both. I'm still not convinced one is better than the other. I simply avoid the ones I think are going to be bad (e.g. La Gata) which is better for my sanity. :)

Actually I should direct my anger at Uni. PVAA, YNCELH and ECDLP... Uni let us down on the first and so far disappointing us on the other two.

I like them each for different reasons.

I can't seem to watch anything past 7 cst so if I want to participate in a Caray discussion I'm kind of limited to 6 cst lol. Otherwise I'm always a day behind.

And I avoid ones that I know aren't to my liking, so I've missed most Caray faves (Tempestad, Robo, MCET.)

I have real weird tastes. Lol.

Cuna de lobos, I heard a while ago that Mejia was going to butcher that one also.

Sara

Cachito de Cielo and Para Volver a A Amar were produced by Roberto Gómez Fernández and Giselle González as a team. They have now ended their joint projects and he produced El Color de la Pasión while she produced Yo No Creo en Los Hombres.

Jarocha

Oh thanks Jarocha. So basically these are good producers whether together or apart. :)

Jarocha- Thanks for the info on those two producers. Looks like they are doing good things for Televisa but for some reason are not popular with Univision since they only put their tns on during the day, midnight, or never.

Mejia did a pilot of Cuna de Lobos I thought. And it didn't go over.

I think a remake is in the works, but that is one that IMO should never be touched. I finished watching it in January and I started watching it again this weekend. I really love it and wish we could get tightly written stories like that again. And fabulous acting.

Amen Vivi! Who did LVO? That was another one that Caray has spoken highly of but was on at midnight.

How did it do Premio wise?

La Verdad Oculta was actually Emilio Larrosa, believe it or not. Both LVO and Hasta el Dinero no Separe were Larrosa and were shown here in quick succession. For that reason I thought Larrosa was pretty good because I enjoyed both tremendously. But Dos Hogares was banished to the day and I didn't hear good things, and Libre Para Amarte was widely panned and Uni never bothered to pick it up. So not sure if those two tns were just a fluke.

Sara- I have no idea LVO did awards wise because it was shown here YEARS (2011) after it was shown in Mexico (2006). Uni held on to it for a long time and then finally decided to show it, at midnight.

UNBELIEVABLE that Uni would hold on to a show that long! What in the world frightens these people at Uni that they would do such a thing!?

Sara, thank you for the info on "Cachito". I will look it up.

Maybe Televisa should approach Hulu Plus about running their TNs (not chopped up). Televisa has complained in the past about the Uni hatchet jobs. Maybe Hulu Plus would just run the darn TN without using the hatchet.

Fatima

What I've seen on Hulu is the Uni hack jobs.

I'm also astounded at how long Uni held onto LVO. But at least they showed it right? I think PVAA was the last time Uni put something never before seen in that slot.

Part 1

I don't know if my opinion matters because I only watched MCET and LQLVMR.

Best Telenovela:

I bailed on:

**La Gata --- after the first week; I didn't care to look at a garbage dump during my dinner hour. The acting was so incredibly bad it was hysterically funny.

Any nomination for LG in any category is just plain stupid, stupid, stupid. Especially Maite Perroni and Daniel Arenas, who together shouldn't be allowed to act in another telenovela.

** La Malquerida -- bailed after the first week; I don't like Victoria Ruffo and Ariadne Diaz. I tried watching for Christian Meir (Zorro ); but I didn't like the acting or where the plot was going (incest).

** Que Pobres Tan Ricos -- I don't like comedies so I watched only a few episodes before giving up.

**Yo No Creo en los Hombres -- I didn't realize they were airing YNCELH and would have liked to have have seen it, as I understand it received good ratings. Maybe I'll catch it on Youtube or during reruns.

**LQLVMR -- Extending LQLVMR really ruined the overall novela, but it still kept my attention, and I was glad that it was different enough from AR so that my memory of AR wasn't tarnished.

**MCET -- While most of the acting has been terrific (especially JS and the kids), I don't see it winning over LQLVMR for best novela.

I think LQLVMR will win.

Best Lead Actress:

Silvia Navarro has been much better in other novelas (MEPS), and I can see why she wasn't nominated this year for MCET.

Ariadne Diaz or Maite Perroni -- you've got to be kidding!! Their acting skills need much more developmention to win. They just don't do it for me.

Angelique Boyer in LQLVM was excellent; but I can't judge, as I didn't see the other novelas.

I would say Angelique Boyer will win.

Best Lead Actor:

I think Jorge Salinas in MCET blows right by all the others for Leading Male Actor. Particularly Daniel Arenas who shouldn't have been nominated.

Sebastián Rulli was fantastic in Teresa, he didn't show the range of acting in LQLVMR that Jorge Salinas did in MCET. If Salinas doesn't win and looses out to Daniel Arenas or any of the others, I'm definitely going to think the Awards are rigged.

I'm going for Jorge Salinas all the way to the bank and back.

Best Female Villain:

Azela Robinson has always acted to the limits and back and always makes for a great villain, so she could win but Daniela's role was super demanding and required a wide range of emotions.

I'm all in for Daniela Castro.

Best Male Villain:

Even though I didn't see LM, I love Alberto Estrella. He was great in Pasión. I think that anything he acts in is worth an award for him.

Sergio Sendel is just too over the top for me, and after LQLVMR, MEPS, and La Virgin Esposa, I can do without him. Alexis Ayala? ?? Say what, where did that nomination come from !?????!

I want Alberto Estrella to win hands down.

Best Legendary Actress:

Even though I didn't watch these two novelas, I would vote for Helena Rojo (when has she ever given a mediocre performance ?). Rosa María Bianchi (YNCELH) makes a truly believable villain, so I could see her taking home the reward.

I vote for Helena Rojo, one of my all time favorites, especially in AR.

Best Legendary Actor:

I can't see Manuel Ojeda (LG) turning in anything less than a stellar performance. To me, René Casados has been superb in other novelas, but his 'Bruno' in MCET wasn't worthy of an award.

I'm going with Manuel Ojeda even though I didn't see LG. He was the only actor who could have pulled that novela out of the gutter.

Part 2

Best Co-Starring Actress:

No opinion.

Best Co-Starring Actor:

I'm going with Luis Roberto Guzmán. How can anybody else win over 'Mad Dog Alvarez ? Impossible.!!

Best Young Actress:

Paulina Goto (MCET), what a great performance for someone so young.

Best Young Actor:

Juan Pablo Gil (MCET), NO WAY.

Nobody gets my vote here.

Best Supporting Actress:

Margarita Magaña (LQLVMR).

Best Supporting Actor:

Osvaldo Benavides (LQLVMR) was very good in LQLVMR, but my vote is on Fabián Robles even though I didn't watch LM. He makes such a great bad boy!

I hope Fabián Robles wins.

Best Theme Song:

I would love to see the duo of Iglesias and Solis win. I loved the blend of their voices, and the song never got on my nerves throughout the whole novela as some others (MCET) are prone to do.

El Perdedor, Please

Why don't thevAwards air here in the USA at the same time as in Mexico?

Ok. I'll agree that at the beginning Ojeda was good in La Gata. But the show is complete crap and he was better in the three episodes of QTPD that I saw.

Jorge Salinas recently won for LQNPA. Would they give it to him again so soon?

I bailed on...

La Gata during the second episode for the same reason as Victoria did.

La Malquerida after 10 episodes because I despised Ariadne Diaz' character and got a creep vibe from the story direction.

QPTR because I'm sick of this social class thing, not to mention all the working class slang I didn't have the energy to look up.

LQLVMR and MCET are the only ones I've watched with any regularity for obvious reasons and because of my TV set situation.

Will QTPD be eligible next year? It's still a Televisa production.

Hit enter too early. Will it still be eligible even if it premiered in the States first?

I understand that in order to qualify for said year's Premios, the novela had to have been produced and aired in Mexico and "El Fin" has to happen in Mexico before, or very closely to when the nominations are announced.

Yes, Sara, Qtp will be eligible for next years' TVyNovelas awards.

Jarocha

Sara, Viví, Fatima, and Urban,

I really wish Televisa would get out of the rut it is in and produce more novelas like La Verdad Oculta and La Madrastra.

Yes. I would love some sort of suspense/mystery story.

Thank you Jarocha!

I think Sebastian did excellent work for LQLVMR and I hope he finally wins. (He should have won for Teresa not Colunga.) AV didn't let him do much but I still think he is better than Juan Diego Covarrubias
who won. As for Silvia not getting nominated they said she didn't want to participate and that is why her name isn't there.

If anyone from La Gata wins yes it will be ridiculous. That novela was nothing but a mess.

Does anyone care to see the "Public Favorites" and who was nominated ? I can post that too if you want to see it. The fans get to pick who wins those categories.

Here is the link to see the nominees for "Public Favorites". I love the Best Kiss and Best Couple categories.

Thanks Victoria for posting the list. The list had some WTF for me. LRG and AB as a "best kiss?" Who in the public like them except a very small percentage? (The writers certainly try their best to get us to like them but they fail)

3 villains are nominated for LQLVMR? And Best smile had no one from LQLVMR?

The "Public Favorites" make about as much sense as, what I call, "Los Premios" and all other award shows especially the "Oscars"

Favorite smile nominee Michelle Renaud For El Color de la Pasión? Really? Was her joy at other people's misery so adorable? LOL.

Now for QTH moments;

Villanos- Why wasn't Hector Suarez Gomis nominated? It was a waste of a nomination to have Alexis Ayala, Same goes for Flavio Medina; they weren't bad, they were complicated.

Fun Fact- Hector won an award for his role in Salud, Dinero y Amor as El Tacubayo.

Leading Ladies- Of all the years to nominate Ariadne who never is, it had to be the year Victoria Ruffo deserves an award and they happen to be in the same show. I'd take out Maite and Ariadne to toss in Vic and Karyme Lozano (I agree Silvia Navarro deserves MANY awards but she doesn't want to be rewarded. She doesn't need a trophy to prove she is a good actress.) The only reason Susana Gonzalez isn't here is because the award show persons nominated AND rewarded her last year so they wouldn't have to this year.

Galans- YNCELH is the only time I've loved Gabriel Soto. I'm GLAD Guy Ecker wasn't nominated because fART de la Riva is, was and always shall be a wad. Why wasn't Daniel Arenas nominated for an award when he was Willy Boy? They wasted an AC nomination that year on F5.

Villanas- Where's Lucre Uglie from Quiero Amarte?

Revelacions- This spot was abandoned but last year and this one had and have SO MANY options. Two namely are Gonzalo Pena and Gimena Gomez.

So Jorge Salinas made some comments about the nominees or lack of . I understand him being upset not being nominate buy why the hate on LQLVMR and the actors? Whether people like the novela or not I think we can agree it was very popular and successful. So if they win a lot of the prizes it wouldn't be a shock or surprise.

Whether it is the Premios, Oscars, or other award show etc usually the successful, talked about gets rewarded.

Corazón Salvaje: Alexis Ayala and Flavio Medina's characters weren't bad? They did horrible things, they may have had feelings but that doesn't erase their actions and how much they hurt others.

I remember El Tacubayo, he was so nasty.

I think Ariadne got nominated for the scenes after Manolo's death, those were very commented here. I think Ruffo's character was much more likeable and she does well the self assured side of characters but she lacks something for me when the character has to suffer and raise her voice in pain.

Jarocha

Corazon Salvaje:

ITA about Karyme Lozano. Amaya has definitely been her best protagonist role, very meaty and complicated and not at all predictable or typical.

I loved Ariadne in MdV and loved her in LM. While I may admit she was a little weaker than the rest of the cast in the beginning, when her " relationship" with Esteban "began" she fit into her shoes perfectly. Her scenes with Victoria Ruffo were well worth the price of admission and her reaction to Manolo's death were golden.

Jarocha- Alexis and Flavio's characters were similar in this aspect; they were corrupted by a leader (Sergio and Rosa Ma.'s characters) but always had love for their respective woman (Adriana and Gabriela's characters.) There were also various shades of grey.

Ditto on El Tacubayo. Like Marcial and Danilo, IDK which is worse between Fernando and Tacubayo.

Ariadne was MUCH more likeable in La Mujer del Vendaval yet she didn't get nominated. She did win an award for La Mas Guapa though.

Are they being nominated for being likeable or for the acting? I thought Ariadne was challenged in La Malquerida like she's never been challenged before, and she knocked it out of the park with Manolo's death scene. I'm sure that's the scene that was sent to the judges.

I've seen bits and pieces of Ariadne in other TNs but didn’t pay much attention. In La Malquerida, her character grows from being a self-centered brat to a conflicted young women. Even when I didn't like her, I still felt sorry for her dilemma (a lot of it self-inflicted). I say Ariadne earned the nomination.

Victoria Ruffo's La Malquerida character was relatively even-tempered, though she did emote when crap happened, but it wasn't the kind of complicated role like Ariadne’s. Good performance but not a high degree of difficulty throughout the TN, so I can see why VR wasn't nominated.

One more dig at La Gata. It's the only TN I've ever watched where I actually felt sorry for the actors. I hope they were at least well paid.

Since I have not seen them all I could not give a fair judgement but from what I have seen (LQLVMR (part), QPTR and MCET) I can say:
Telenovela: I could not tell one, would be fine with any of the 3 I have seen but i predict LQLVMR will win.
Lead actr: no pref, i agree Silvia did better in CME and AB
Lead Actor: Jorge S for MCET by a landslide, granted I have not seen them all
Female Villain: Mayrin for MCET (again, I have not seen them all)
Male Villain: Sergio S from LQLVMR
Co-starr actress: Africa from LM or Sylvia from QPTR
Co-starr Actor: Luis Roberto G from LQLVMR
Young actr: Natasha from QPTR or Paulina from MCET (have not seen the others)
Young actor: all of them did great, don’t have a preference there

LOL Niece about LG... i felt the same way at times with QPTR and MCET

I'm watching tonight's episode of La Sombra and I want to take back anything ugly I said about Televisa.

Why did La Sombra del Pasado not get any nominations? Granted it just started here in the US, but so far I am loving it and the quality of the writing, acting, etc.. is top notch.
Is this TN too new where it won't show up until next year's Premios? I am not sure how it works.

I think it will be eligible next year. It started in November in Mexico. So I don't think enough episodes had aired to include it in this year's awards.

Hi everyone, and what a great batch of comments from you all in regards to this upcoming award show!

I wanted to chime in with my two cents, as I recognize that being down here in Nicaragua for the season has afforded me some comparative luxuries. On the 'minus' side, I'm in no way near on the same schedules as you all are, meaning that I can't really participate in your usual, WONDERFUL, CarayCaray discourse, but it also affords me access to shows that are inaccessible to people back up North America way. Hell, channel 18 down here is the 'tlnovelas' channel- 24 hours of telenovelas, every day! (They're currently showing, amongst others, 'Teresa', 'Duelo de Pasiones', 'Velo de Novia', 'Una Familia con Suerte', 'La Mentira', and we just had the Gran Estreno of 'Alma de Hierro'.

Anyways, in regards to the novelas up for discussion and merit here, I fully agree with you all in regards to 'La Gata'. LaToodley-do had an absolutely amazing cast (on paper) and gave them nothing to work with, at least not anything that they could be proud of! I ALSO want to chip in with the highest of praise for you all for BOTH 'El Color de la Pasion' AND 'Yo No Creo en los Hombres'. ECDLP was such a rich, TEXTURED novela... it was written by Cuauhtémoc Blanco, who is known for the depth and scope of his dramas (he did 'Mi Pecado', 'Cadenas de Amargura', and 'El Mantianal', among others. It was a gripping, satisfying novela in every way. In a lot of ways, it reminded me of another classic novela from long ago, that being 'Capricho', starring Victoria Ruffo and Diana Bracho in the villanous role of her mother, Eugenia. I hope it does get shown up here, as it embodied everything that we want in a telenovela but that, alas, we so rarely get.

Following ECDLP, we got YNCELH, and talk about going from strength to strength- Televisa hit it out of the park twice in a row here, and YNCELH, with such a great storyline and a really TERRIFIC ensemble cast (Flavio Medina AND Luz Maria Jerez both doing double duty from 'Quiero Amarte' (another seriously and unjustly neglected, GREAT novela), and the magnificent Azela Robinson chewing up the scenery in her role of a character that is the absolute embodiment of bitterness), YNCELH seriously DESERVES all the nominations that it has. I'm sure that LQLVMR will take more than its share of awards but, unlike LQLVMR with its unfortunate extension (do those things EVER work at IMPROVING a novela and doing it JUSTICE???) neither ECDLP or YNCELH ever seemed to lag. I wish and hope that you all get a chance to watch them, as I KNOW you'll all be happy upon doing so...

But I guess that's up to the Novela Gods to decide... let's just hope that they're merciful!! :-)

With my continued best wishes to all...

Stevey --- OT

I loved your comment about being able to see a lot of shows on different channels in Nicaragua.

We lived there for 5 years in the mid 1970s when we were first married.

The only programs on TV, besides an absolutely stupid, local game show, were 'The Bionic Man', 'Wonder Woman', and 'PTL' ('Praise The Lord'. PTL was the star show with Jim and Tammy Baker, I don't know if you are old enough to remember the scandal that befell PTL, but IMO they deserved what they got.

It is so encouraging to hear or read good news about Nicaragua, as that was our absolutely, without question, favorite country out of the several that we called home.

We loved the spirit of the Nicaraguan people after Managua and a good part of the country were destroyed in the humongous earthquake that killed so many people and left almost the whole city of Managua and its surrounding area completely flattened. The Nicaraguan people had a great attitude and didn't let the destruction, terrible living conditions, Somoza, or the guerrilla war spoil their love of life.

I hope you enjoy your time there and bring back many happy memories as we did.

I don't know if you'll read this but hope you do.

Victoria, how nice to hear from you. Thank you for taking the time to write.

I'm so glad that you have fond memories of Nicaragua. Like you, it is by far my favorite of the countries that I have lived in. I am Canadian born, but have a good, and interesting little job online (I write the questions for SmartPhone trivia applications). It doesn't pay much, and when back in Canada I have to find supplementary income of some kind, but, it affords me the luxury of living wherever I want the rest of the time, and the people, climate, and culture here in Granada speak much more to my heart and my soul, 'mi alma', than does life back in Canada.

If you and your husband ever want to come down again, DO PLEASE be in touch. I live on Ometepe Island, and am always happy to share life here with good people. My email is 'gutsyradish@gmail.com'.

But thank you again for writing, and my best wishes to you and yours! :-)

Roles that Silvia navarro has played most of the young leading ladies can't do it, she oozes charisma and originality...she has shown that being a heroine doesn't mean you are stupid, always crying or getting pitied. Her characters are strong and determined. Look at ana Brenda who is about to play a similar character to silvia's in CME,she had to take lessons for it right?. Now Silvia will be an asset to telemundo considering I like the unusual parejas, especially pairing older women with younger men e.g laura flores y Sergio mur, take a look at. Gabriel porras y Brenda in corazon valiente, they oozed chemistry,Televisa should experiment with their pairings porfavor!,silvia navarro would have made la tempestad work because of her presence alone and she would have covered levy's so-so acting.now whatever silvia is doing next,i pray she gets a good galan because after a good story and great acting, chemistry between the lead roles in a novel matters a lot,so I want to see her build good chemistry with who ever, maybe zepeda, rulli(i am dying to see them together) levy, ivan sanchez, eugenio siller and even arenas(if he is paired with silvia, people won't really see his so-so aacting, thhats just how good she is...so my point is,in this generation La chivis is the best actress for novels no disputing

Silvia navarro is the best,
