La Sombra del Pasado #44, 4-17-15 True Confessions of Boinkers, Lovers and Other Strangers

Overlap:   Lola with Dominga and Mel in the kitchen declaring her new attitude toward E-man while admitting she can't help being attracted to the handsome devil!

We return to the morning after and the afterglow is long gone for the Mendozas.  Among other things Cande screeches to Severiano is that nothing happened last night!  Sev begs, even falls to his knees claiming he loves her but Cande is seized by pain and humiliation.  She wails that Sev should get out, slams and locks her bedroom door, then slumps to her chair and weeps.

Dominga enters Cande’s room to bring tea and hastens to leave.  Cande asks her not to stay, she needs to talk.  I get the feeling that Cande as a wounded little girl and Dominga as the comforter is a role that has played out throughout their lives.  Cande cries that Sev has a lover and of her pain after having surrendered to him last night.  Doming gently checks her reality:  it’s logical and Cande knows this woman isn’t his first.   Dominga wants to know what is really hurting Cande:  she’s maintained for years that Sev didn’t matter to her.  Cande looks within to a private screening of her past.  She thought she would be happy when first married him but she was wrong.  The bastard never valued her as she deserved and she will never forgive him for that!  Dominga asks her if she valued Sev as a man:  They both married knowing she was in love with another man.   Cande cries that THAT man didn’t value her either!  Dominga entreats Cande not to torture herself with thoughts of a past that cannot be changed.  Dominga walks Cande over to her sitting area and brings her tea.  Cande thanks her weakly and sips.  Take a good look.  I’ve got a feeling we won’t be seeing a lot of this helpless, vulnerable, loose-haired Cande.

Outside Las Animas this bright morning E-man attempts to talk to Lola.  She is sharp and dismissive before he can say one word.   She asks about the infamous candy house.  He tells her someone stole it, she doesn’t believe him and flounces away.  Just minutes later it’s Mel who scolds him for the candy house affair.  Mel doesn’t believe he lost it either and warns him to stay away from Lola.  Mel coldly rejects E-man’s attempt to appeal to Mel’s having known him since he was knee high to a chicken.  Mel shuts him down and tells him not to go near his granddaughter anymore!  My gosh, I’d hate to see what he’d do to E-man if he had actually done anything to her!

Well, what do we have here?  The halting chug, chug of Aldonza’s new pick up tells us Renato is teaching Aldonza how to drive.  They’re yukking it up until Cris crosses their path literally on his high horse.  Cris looks at her, unsmiling, and rides away with Aldonza’s eyes following him.

Meanwhile, in the DF, Syvia is looking for Reanto.  Pato tells her he’s in Santa Lucia, gone to look for Aldonza.  As soon as Pato leaves, Sylvia calls him.  She wants to excuse herself for the things she said after their little hookup: She was unfair to him.   They both agree they need to talk.  Sylvia gets to her real point and Renato verifies that he’s with Aldonza.  They’ll talk when he gets back.  Aldonza asks what’s wrong, doesn’t he trust her.  He tells her it was Sylvia, he committed an error, they did something they shouldn’t have done.  They were in the office, he was feeling tense and confused and . . . .Aldonza helps him.  You had relations, she states simply, nodding.

Minutes later, Renato and Aldonza are back at her house.  Renato notes she was quiet during the entire ride back to her house.  Seeing Cris was a real buzz kill, the afternoon is over.  It takes her days to get over these encounters with Cris.   Renato tries to explain about Sylvia.  Aldonza tells him it’s his life and he’s a grown man, he doesn’t owe her any explanations.  Her tone is matter of fact, probably shadowed by sadness over the Cris encounter.

Cris is back home after his ride.  Sev invites him into the study, he wants to talk to him about him and Cande.  Cris heads off an embarrassing discussing of maternal nookie.  Cris always thought it was strange that they maintained separate bedrooms.   It’s not that.  It’s something that Cande just found out and at the worse possible moment.  Sev confesses that he has a lover.  Cris guesses it was the woman he used to visit in San Miguel.  Sev is surprised that Cris is not digging him out for it.  Cris says that’s for his mom to do.  Sev says that he and Cande were on the verge of rectifying their relationship.  Cris is like, “with a lover?”  Sev lies that he was going to leave his lover.  Cris asks why they are even together.  Sev moves in closer to Cris and says “its for you, so you can live within a family and not with parents that are divorced.”  Cris thanks him but says he does not need them to stay together for him.  The question is not what he, Cris, wants, it’s what they want.  He just wants them to be ok.  Cris offers that maybe they should make the first steps towards divorce:  even a separation would be easier than the lie they are living, staying together for appearance.  Sev tells Cris that even though he may not believe it, he loves Cande and does not want to live without her.

Padre Jeronimo!  Ah, you’ve got to love this forthright Man of the Cloth!  Padre J goes this fine morning to see Dr. Humberto Zapata.  Padre wants to know why Hum rented the house in El Santuario to Aldonza.  Did Sev ask him to?  Hum says no, to the contrary:  Sev is highly vexed with him for doing so.  Padre presses on asking why Hum is making so many considerations for Aldonza.  “Are you trying to quiet your conscience?”  Padre J brushes aside Humberto’s feigned ignorance.   “You attended Roberta’s delivery of a child that supposedly died.  I am almost sure the child is alive and you know where it is.”  Hum asks Padre where he got that absurd idea.  Padre tells Hum, “You know what I’m talking about.  If you ever decide to talk, you will remove a heavy weight off your chest.”  Padre wishes God’s blessings upon Humberto and leaves him with the bomb he just dropped.

Ay, yi yi.  Val has shown up on Aldonza’s doorstep.  Vale, her eyes slightly pink and liquid, thinks they need to talk.  Aldonza lets her in and just for any of us in viewerville who think this is sincere, we get a glimpse of the mean girl smirk and glint in those “pink eyes” while her back is to Aldonza.  Aldonza tells her she is not in agreement with Cris breaking up with her and though Vale may not believe it, she wants nothing with him.  Val turns over the waterworks about her tremendous pain over being stood up days before her wedding.  She wouldn’t wish this pain on her worst enemy!  Vale asks for Al’s help:  tell Cris that she doesn’t want anything to do with him.  Aldonza has done that till she’s blue in the face.  What more can she do?  Essentially, Vale tries to get Aldonza to play like she’s all into someone else to put Cris off her scent.  Aldonza refuses to engage in silly games and theatrics.  But Vale is desperate!  Cristobal can’t do this to her?  Aldonza asks, do what to her?  With tears welling up in her eyes Vale tells her that when she thought they were going to get married and she was so head over heels in love with him, she gave herself to Cristobal and now she feels used because she betrayed her parent’s trust.  They know nothing about her defloration!  Aldonza is touched.

Let’s get back with the good doctor.  Humberto is about to leave the office early due to a stomach ache when Pru arrives.  She came to drop in and greet him, but there’s another matter.  Pru wants to start a bible study circle.  Cue the angelic choir.  Humberto asks if she’s crazy:  since when was she so interested in the Bible?  While she has felt somewhat distanced from Padre Jeronimo, she’s doing it for Our Father in Heaven, in Whom she has never lost faith!  Her conscience demands she do something for the lost youth with declining morals in the midst of these turbulent times!  She will hold the classes in the house of one of the youths, offered by the parents.  Humberto tells her he supports her efforts.  Umph, umph, umph!  The road to hell is paved with bright pink tunics, Pru!

For whom is Pru willing to lie on The Almighty?  Let’s see what he’s up to:  Tomas the stank engine examines the candy house.  He tries to take it out.  He wants to eat it.  He attempts to smash it with a bat.  He stops and examines it up close and decides the best thing would be to sell it.  He thinks to himself he could probably get a nice piece of change for it!  Pitiful!  (Thanks, Vivi!  I missed the bit about selling it!)

Renato collapses on his bed in his hotel room, relives Aldonza’s refusal to listen to his explanation of why he banged Sylvia and calls himself an imbecile.

Dominga and Mel fret about Simoneta/Viviana.  Mel looked all over town couldn’t find her because he didn’t know she changed her name.  But, he did hear that a woman by her new name had checked out of the hotel.  Dominga doesn’t believe she’s gone.  Dominga is suspicious of the wanting to buy horses cover story and believes she knew that their son was from Santa Lucia and she came here looking for Lola!  They decide to try not to worry about it but trust in God that she’s gone for good!

Sev goes to see Simonetta to debrief over the busting.  What do they do now?   Sev doesn’t know but he’s glad Cande didn’t recognize her voice.   Does he want her to leave?   No.  More than ever he wants Simonetta to stay.  "Now that she knows you’re here, she won’t start a scandal.   Actually, I feel sorry for her:  while she is all alone and bitter, I am here with you, loving and enjoying you."   Sev smirks and kisses Simoneta who is not as overjoyed as I might have imagined.

Pato is in Santa Lucio looking for Renato.  What, they don’t have bikes in the big city?  He nearly gets creamed by a couple.  Ha ha ha!  Anyhoo, Lola happens along.  Gone is the snippy, shitty attitude she had with E-man.  She’s grinning from ear to ear and agrees to show Pato where the hotel is.  She declines an invitation for icecream as she has to get back to work.  She tells him where she works and switches away!    Pato goes in to Renato’s room where Pato reports on the “promising encounter” with Lola.  Pato has brought him some files from the office.  They do some Lawyer talk, I think, about other cases.  Feel free to chime in.  Renanto thanks Pato for keeping the office running smoothly.  Pato notices a pall over Renato’s mood and asks how is he.  Renato says he’s not well.  Pato tells him animo!  Cheer up!   It’s not about his mom.  Yes, Renato tells Pato about doing Sylvia in the office.  He was weak and vulnerable and he succumbed to her kisses, blah, blah, blippety blah!  Worse, he told Aldonza and it turned her right off!  Whoa!  Two things come to mind:  1)  Did Renato ever hear the old saying, “A Gentleman does not have a memory” and 2)  I bet Pato wishes he knew that before he had lunch there this afternoon!  Anyway, off they go to take care of something that really matters!

Cande has recovered.  Cold now, she applies her trademark mask.  Gone is her loose locks, replaced with her fiercely braided battle-do.   She pronounces to the Cande in the mirror that she has shed her last tear for Severiano Mendoza.  Dominga comes to see if Cande is going to eat at home.  Nope!   She’s going out and if Sev asks where she is, tell him she’s eating with her lover.

Renato and Pato arrive at LA asking to see Sev.  Cande passes by them, disinterested, her nose in the air and leaves.  Dominga gets Sev.   Renato has come to present a suit brought by Aldonza Alcocer:  Sev must remove his animals from El Santuario.  He has five days to comply.  Sev laughs and throws the papers to the floor.  Renato warns that Sev will have to face the consequences.  Sev barks that he owns the land.  No, says Renato, the land belongs to Dr. Humberto Zapata.  Cris comes in, takes one look at Renato, attacks him and physically throws him  and Pato out with the help of Mel.  Uncowed, Renato shouts from the door that Sev has five days to comply.  Cris asks Sev if he’s ok.

Padre J sits in the confessional booth.  A woman has come to confess.  It’s Cande!  He’s surprised, it’s her first time confessing with him since he came to SL!  Cande says she didn’t do it before because she was afraid.  Candela cries that she can’t hold it anymore; she’s got to tell him!  He doesn’t understand.  “I am a very unhappy woman.  My marriage is a failure.  It’s all your fault!   I married Sev while I was in love with you.”  Padre asks what is she saying.  Cande gets up and faces him above the confessional wall.  “I love you, I have always loved you and will always love you until the last day of my life.”  Again, Padre asks why is she telling him this.   “Because it’s the truth and the hour has come for you to accept YOUR responsibility!  You are responsible for my unhappiness because when you put me aside to put on this cassock you condemned me to marry Sev to try to forget you and live in this hell that I can’t escape.  And this is your fault!"   NO.  Padre refuses  to accept the blame for the choices she has made in her life  and rejects the guilt.  Cande charges on.  Padre cannot wash his hands of his responsibility.  The two are face to face, in close proximity.  “Every time you see me you will know you are the man that I love and have always loved.”  Candela leaves a gobsmacked Padre, goes a few steps and cries, then composes herself and leaves.

Pato and Renato also compose themselves outside LA.  Jeez!  I can’t believe Cris and Mel didn’t see them off the properly entirely.  Anyway, this violent response is all part of the plan and confirms for them that they are hitting Sev where it hurts most.

Padre Jeronimo seeks Divine enlightenment.   Aldonza interrupts his prayer to invite him to dinner.  He declines and asks for a rain check.  Aldonza senses his sadness and tries without success to get him to talk about it.  Padre does say that he realizes he has hurt someone unintentionally and makes him feel badly.  He has committed errors.  It’s complicated.  She respects his privacy and tells him that she hopes it helps to know that she loves him.  He appreciates it.

Back at LA, Sev asks Cris if he’s happy.  “That maldita mujer wants to take my land and my son and take everything I value and you’re playing into her hands.  Get out before I say something I don’t want to!” Cris leaves.  “You’re going to pay Aldonza”, he growls.

As Aldonza leaves the Church, she takes a call from Renato.  He tells her what happened.  They’ll see each other later at the house.

Cande and Pru having lunch.  Cande asks how is Vale.  Everybody is talking about the break up.  Cande starts the Adelina and Joaquin rumor.  Cande and Pru agree to tell the whole town Adelina is as much or worse a slut than her sister.

Aldonza goes to Flavia’s house looking for Joaquin.  Flavia, she of bitch resting face,  does not scare Aldonza off.  Aldonza tells her that it is clear Flavia doesn’t like them.  At any rate, she is looking for Joaquin to discuss a business proposition.  “I’m looking for him about starting a business as a partner, not employee.”  Flavia’s bitch face relaxes slightly.

Sev goes to Aldonza’s house to give her a piece of his mind!  Camilo, the new guard guy tells him he won’t let him in and she’s not home anyway.  Sev looks him up and down derisively and pulls a gun.  “Obviously you don’t know who I am,” says Sev.    Camilo answers,  “No, I don’t and I don’t care,” as he pulls out his own firearm.

In yo’ face, Sev!

Hey, y'all! Wanted to give y'all something to discuss before it gets too late, and I'd like to join the party as well. I know there is some rough parts but I'll proof and edit later.

Have at it!

Gracias tanto, Lila! I'm lovin' the recap! What rough spots?

"They know nothing about her defloration!" Hahahahahahahahahahaha...I could have sworn they were basically living together in Spain. Humberto made some crack about the two of them always being together.

"Cue the angelic choir." I love how comical this is without the fake laugh track or the "wah, wah, wah, wah" sound. And Pru's desperate sincerity...comedy gold!

"Tomas the stank engine" Slow clap. Well played. Well played.

I love that Pato called Lola "a jewel of a woman". Nobody ever says stuff like that to me. Nobody says that kind of stuff in English. ISBIS.

"I bet Pato wishes he knew that before he had lunch there this morning!" I thought the same thing! Well, I thought that he was wondering about the paperwork that was on the desk....

Very reasonable first move from Aldonza. Aside from the vengeance thing, if she rented the property and the contract doesn't say she has to allow Sev...uh, Sev's animals...to graze on her land, then she's well within her rights not to allow it. And what's with Cris, not caring that his dad is standing right there saying "I don't care about the law"? Come on, Cris! Wake up already! Plus Sev said "she wants revenge"...come on, Cris, ask him what Aldonza would want revenge FOR! It's so frustrating...he asks the right questions, but then he gets distracted by something shiny and forgets all about it.

Cande's bombshell confession was just...wow. I mean, we knew, but...wow. Padre was gobsmacked, I was gobsmacked. Once again we're getting action in the church! Only with less snogging this time. And I'm kind of glad Padre didn't say anything, because I have an odd feeling that he would have told her it wouldn't have made any difference if he'd known. He had a vocation, y punto. Cande's having a hard enough day. She probably wouldn't have taken that very well.

I <3 Don Camilo. I find not being intimidated by Sev a very attractive quality in a person.

Lila--GREAT recap! Thank you! So full of snark and you captured all the little nuances like the angelic choir exit music for Pru...

"Candela leaves a gobsmacked Padre"...and now Diva is gobsmacked and I am surely gobsmacked also! Throughout the episode I was gasping in shock, leaning forward with my hands over my mouth...Now that is some WRITING! Best of all was the little surprise at the end when the old, washed-up guy Aldonza hired as a watchman actually has some backbone!

Then Tomas has a mini-sshowdown with the Candy House...and the Candy House stares him down....and Tomas is forced to put down his Candy-Crushing Club. Wheee!

Back in a minute guys.

Earlier, I thought I saw that there were 7 comments. I tweaked a few things and then it said only 3. Is that even possible?

Sorry if I caused Blogger to eat some comments!

:/

ome on, Cris! Wake up already! Plus Sev said "she wants revenge"...come on, Cris, ask him what Aldonza would want revenge FOR! It's so frustrating...he asks the right questions, but then he gets distracted by something shiny and forgets all about it.

Thanks, Diva! Yeah, we can only forgive Cris's ignorance to a point. Since Sev confessed he had a lover Cris has given daddy some integrity points. Cris didn't even clearly know what was happening and he just charged in and joined in the bullshit Sev was shoveling.

Cris, man, come on now!

Tomas is forced to put down his Candy-Crushing Club.

Hee hee! Thank you, J! Yes, I loved Camilo. He looks like he's been around the block, hell, the world a few times and I'm so glad to see somebody that is not intimidated by the one-armed bandit!

And Tomas. Useless p.o.s. He wants to eat the damned candy house. I hope it is taken out of his hands before he can get his snout into it, the pig!

And Pru. What a trip that woman is! She is serious about this tryst. I think she's going to go all the way. What will poor Hum do when he finds out?

Speaking of Hum, Padre J. sure put something on his mind, didn't he? Love me some Padre J!

I can't seem to find any rough spots at all!

I agree that Thomas the stank engine was inspired. Loved it.

I felt a little sorry for Cande on Wednesday and Thursday. Today, not so much. Padre was so gobsmacked that I got the impression that this was the first time hearing such a thing. So how the hell is it Padre's fault that she's miserable? Suck it up buttercup. If you didn't say anything all those years ago it's on you, not him. And it was your dumbass decision to marry. Sounds to me like you were more hell bent on marriage. Not love.

Yes J in O!

Tomas the stank- 0
Casa de Caramelos - 1

Damn Lila! You can paint them word pictures.

"They’re yukking it up until Cris crosses their path literally on his high horse"

"Vale, her eyes slightly pink and liquid, thinks they need to talk .....we get a glimpse of the mean girl smirk and glint in those “pink eyes” while her back is to Aldonza"

Golly gosh what a ride last night, capped off with a grizzled old man unimpressed with a one armed Sev and a cap gun, as he draws his hand cannon!

I wept like a baby soon as Cande started her confession and while I hated the editing that forced me between that sadness and wanting to grab Sev, Cris and Mel by the nape of the neck and clunk their heads together, it probably was a good thing.

What was Cris's deal? I thought his reaction was a little over the top.

Waayyyy over the top and pissed me off royally. Sure it had as much to do with Renato's relationship with Aldonza as defending his daddy but no excuse. When I saw his attack first thing popped in my head was lawsuit.

Hey, thanks, Lila. This was a rollicking ride through an insightful episode.

Darn! Candy has her hair back up in those spring loaded coils. I liked PJ's reaction to Candy's (perhaps) 25 years too late declaration of love.

I wonder at the real purpose of the lawsuit, but it appears that Aldonza and Renato are playing chess while Sev is playing checkers.

"They know nothing about her defloration." Uh, excuse me, but she seems to have an open door policy for that particular area of her body.

I didn't understand the significance of Tomas and the baseball bat and the caja. He should tread lightly in his interaction with Pru, because it is obviously hard on him when he is around her.

David

Wooo!! Fantastic Lila! This show knows how to pack a wallop each episode I swear, and I love how you put it all out there for us.

All right, maybe a minority here, but maybe Cande could confess her true love to a clueless Padre (hello, he's this clueless, what exactly went on when they were younger?) but saying everything happening now and her unhappiness is all his fault...that would be a resounding NO! I lost my sympathy for her at that point. It was like she just had to make someone else miserable because she was. Hey, happens to everyone, you move on and don't whine, moan and become a hateful control freak because one guy turned you down. Back on my get over yourself list.

Val is just a skank. Period. Honestly about the deflowering thing? These are all big boys and girls, this should not even be a discussion point. And they should not have Allie look at that in any comparison to herself. Really hated that conversation.

Now, on to my boy Renato. First, holy moly, he confessing what happened with Sylvia? I swear I wasn't hearing right. A galan immediately admitting a screw up to the woman he loves, and we don't go 20-30 episodes before the reveal of what he did? Do we feel robbed? H*** no, I raise a toast to this guy. Sure, it didn't score points with Allie ( Cris upset her, yes, but I think she was bummed), but he was up front and honest. Renato edges to the front....

As for his counterpart, is Cris deaf? Why does he not hear the crap spouting from his parents' mouths sometimes and have the ability to add these things up. And that move on Renato, oh hell to the no, as they say. That was all about Allie, and nothing but a bully move. Are we supposed to take his side and root for his jealousy? Yeah, didn't work. And of course, he takes his dad's side...and probably will do so more out of spite to Allie 'cause he's a hurt widdle boy. Definitely his mother's son? Cris.....BIG step back.

Pru continues to just delight. We need her as a relief in this story. As for Hum, he was used in that lawsuit. As much as he's helped Allie, could she not have told him her Mis Plans?

You know, I sort of like Lola and Patricio. They sort of fit. What is this show trying to do to us with these nice guys? Anyone else was rooting for Tomas to smash that stupid house and get it over with?

Deep breaths on the patio while we down some Melon Martini's. Needed those last night. (And wine just showed up on my captcha--I'm starting to get spooked by that thing.)

Daisynjay

Ooooh, Lila! What a fabulous recap! This was the first complete episode I watched in a while, so really enjoyed your brilliant take on the details. Cande's confession and its aftermath were riveting.
Pru's walk on the wild side--so funny. Then Pru and Cande conspiring to spread the gossip on Adelina, ignoring their own faults.

Adelina better watch her back because if the Ugly Pru & sadistic Candela have their way, she might be banned from the country!

Good tofie. I'll sit with you at that table. I would have understood righteous indignation, but Cris just flew at him like a crazy man.

Daisynjay - I'm liking Lola and Patio too! They seem much better suited than Lola and Em. This show is messing with my matchmaking.

I'm with you David - Val definitely has an open "door" policy. Are people going to fall for this bull?

General- I actually sat up and said "NO!" when Tomas went for the bat. I guess the house has to be opened but I'm not ready for that yet.

Um. Lola and PATO. Thanks, SwiftKey.

Lila, your title was inspired.

So many thoughtful and clever comments, I can't list them all but "Doming gently checks her reality", "Cande looks within to a private screening of her past" and "Flavia, she of bitch resting face" were among my many favorites.

“You attended Roberta’s delivery of a child that supposedly died. I am almost sure the child is alive and you know where it is.” I so admire the Padre for confronting Humberto and asking for the truth. His words did seem to pierce Hum's conscious who looked as though he was digesting those words with shame and regret.

So Cande bares her soul although it appears the weight was rather light. She was in love with the Padre but it was obvious he not only never returned her affections but by the flabbergasted look on his face had obviously no idea! And Kat, I totally agree that the Padre's silence was appropriate as I don't think he would have cast his vocation aside for her either.

I'm also a bit frustrated with Cris. It looks as though he will replace the love he feels for her with anger and resentment.

When Cris and Em got into it with Renato and Pato it was apparant there was much more behind the fight than legal issues. Aldonza's heart and jealousy and frustration.

I think Pato will give Em a run for his money with Lola. Pato and Em are not dissimilar - they are both sweet although Pato is somewhat more animated. No matter. No spoiler but I suspect Renato and Pato will end up going home in the end without their respective crushes.

Lila, again, a riveting recap.

Diana

Oh and Daisynjay - I lost all sympathy for Cande.

Lila- So much juicy material to work with and you did it brilliantly!

I was gobsmacked with you all and Padre. Not by the declaration of love, but by her blaming Padre for her bad choices and misery. What nerve!

Cris totally took the opportunity to release his Aldonza frustration out on Renato during that scene when he kicked him out. Yep. Soon it's going to be the bros, Cris and Em, against the city boys, Ren and Pato, who are pursuing their women.

I applaud this legal move by Al, but she should have given Adelina and Padre some warning. I understand why she didn't tell Hum, but she has to realize that it's going to tick him off when he finds out. He wants to poke Sever in the eye for sure, but he doesn't want to be on Sever's hit list.

Loved that the Candy House won the stare down. But at the end Tomas decided to sell it!

I don't feel sympathy for Cande but to me sad someone would waste their life as she has done. I believe the young Cande loved PJ to her core and they were likely close but when he donned that robe it worse than had he died or hooked up with the likes of a Roberta. When he returned to SL the scab was knocked off. The power to change her reality rest with her and a good divorce attorney but I saw her confession as a preemptive excuse for the fury to follow.

Lila, fantastic job. All the recappers on this TN are so terrific. I'm really enjoying this one.

Cris really let me down today. The fact that he would go ballistic without even knowing any facts or what was the issue said it all for me. And can I also say that I'm so done with Lola? She's acting so over the top with her anger at Emanuel that it's getting absurd. Run run Emanuel from her. You don't need a grown woman in your life who over reacts to small things.

I agree with everyone about Cande not taking responsibility for her life. And if she wants to stay in her marriage, then she deserves everything that she's getting.

So if Padre is so shocked at Cande's confession, then I'm guessing that Cande wasn't that overt with her feelings for him when they were young, she probably fantasized about him and built up a nonexistent relationship in her mind. Poor Padre is now getting the news for the first time but it's been a lifelong thing for Cande.

I hope that part of mis planes was Renato and Pato recording the encounter with Sev, including the fight.

Thank you, Sara: Sounds to me like you were more hell bent on marriage. Not love.

Thank you, Tofie! Golly gosh what a ride last night, capped off with a grizzled old man unimpressed with a one armed Sev and a cap gun, as he draws his hand cannon! Love, Camilo! I've got to go back and give him his name in the recap.

David! Thank you! Love and agree with this: Uh, excuse me, but she seems to have an open door policy for that particular area of her body. I hope Vale didn't fall for that line of bull!

Daisynjay! Thank you! I only don't want Tomas to smash the candy house in case there is a valuable ring inside. That slug doesn't deserve it! Also agree with you, Diva, and others that Cris has no excuse for cluelessness: his parent's are giving him all kinds of loaves of bread, not just crumbs, that lead to the truth and he doesn't get it. "Their" turning him into a jealous hot head attacking Renato is not attractive either.

Thank you, La Paloma! Yeah, Pru and Cande "straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel." Indeed.

Thanks for stopping by, Steve.

Diana, Thank you so much! Yes, you said perfectly what I tried to express above: I'm also a bit frustrated with Cris. It looks as though he will replace the love he feels for her with anger and resentment.

Vivi! Thank you, Girl! I love how you so often pick up on things I missed: Loved that the Candy House won the stare down. But at the end Tomas decided to sell it! I'm going to go back and add that!

Thank you, Cathyx! Yes, I'm back to hiding my face at Cris's table. The fact that he would go ballistic without even knowing any facts or what was the issue said it all for me. And you know what, I have to agree with you on Lola as well: She's acting so over the top with her anger at Emanuel that it's getting absurd. Couldn't say it better! "They" are making both these characters hard to take and just absolutely unsympathetic. For cripe's sake, she didn't catch E-man screwing Mari! It IS ridiculous and no, he does not need a FLAVIA in his life!

And frankly, Cathyx, I don't get Donnie and Renato's mis planes at all! She seems to be only succeeding in stoking the fires of Sev's rage putting her, Adelina and Padre in danger. We already know how ruthless Sev is!

Wow! Great episode, great recap, great comments! Gosh I love to sit on the patio in the morning!

This entire section had me rolling!:
The road to hell is paved with bright pink tunics, Pru!...Tomas the stank engine examines the candy house....Pitiful. Somehow the "pitiful" at the end sent me into an extended laughing fit.

Imo, honors last night go to:
1) Dominga - reigning champion of common sense. Lila I love your wording on this: "Dominga gently checks her reality." Word. So glad she pointed out the truth of the situation to Cande and reminded her that she put those blinders on, but she knew what she was blocking out the whole time. (Not that having it shoved in your face isn't still WAY HARSH, esp since Sev was like "it's all part of my plan, baby, I'm just using her heheheh." Scum.)

2) Renato - for getting this "confession" out of the way right off the bat.

3) Aldonza - for being straight with Renato about Cris's effect on her and the fact that his love life is his business. For being stand up when Val came over and not laughing in her freaking face about her "entrega por amor." (God help me if she returns to tell Aldie she's preggers like I thought she was gonna do last night!)

4) Grand prize winner: Don Camilo for not giving a flying f...fig who Sev is and pulling out his gun and being like "what now, little man?"

Neutral: Cris
He gained points with me for reminding his dad that um, he's a grown man so his parents being divorced is not a big deal cuz he's not 5. (Let's see if that comes up during the possible preggers scare Val's sure to consider). He lost points (and maybe his mind) when he hauled Ren out like that. While shocking and yes, an impressive display of his physical strength, it's definitely in the no column. I'm kind of willing to let it go b/c he didn't slug anyone and he's had a very frustrating few days where Aldie/Ren are concerned. But still Aldie, girl, this entire family is seriously unhinged. Run. Run now.

I have to admit I am disappointed that Cande's unrequited love was for Padre.

1. It disproved my theory (and really I shouldn't be bothered by that. My theories are always wrong.

2. I'm still left wondering why Cande hated Roberta so much, then. Did she hate Roberta simply because Roberta was a free spirit, spoke her mind and WENT AFTER WHAT SHE WANTED? If that's the case, then it's all on you Cande, girl. You're life was wasted and it's no one's fault but your own.

I assume Don Camilo gets a table? Or how about a fan club with T-shirts?

Forgot to actually say THANK YOU to Lila (My bad, girl).

Also forgot to add points for Aldie for not telling Flavia to back the h*** up with her attitude. Sadly, if she can calm Flavia down, they might've all been laughing over their business future successes in the town restaurant, but now with Pru and Cande on the case, Flavia's gonna get even worse.

I am at the table for our mature new hero, Don Camilo! (For a moment, I was afraid he was going to be shot before he even had one line of dialogue...)

Also, I don't get it--Cande's big revenge plan centers on making Adelina the butt of gossip? So she will be forced to leave town I assume. But surely Cande's icy fury can come up with something more nefarious than...gossip?

J in O

Gossip and character assassination can be pretty powerful. Just ask any high school girl.

Which yeah...

That's all you got Cande? You're a grown ass woman.

What was it that the man put in the candy house again? A ring?

Yes. A ring.

Hey, HellaShelle! Thank you, Darlin'! Love your honors list! Great idea: Grand prize winner: Don Camilo for not giving a flying f...fig who Sev is and pulling out his gun and being like "what now, little man?" YES!!

Here's something I've been wanting to say for quite a few episodes: But still Aldie, girl, this entire family is seriously unhinged. Run. Run now.

Sara, I think it is true that Cande's hatred for Roberta before she knew Sev was boinking her WAS all because Roberta was a free spirit, spoke her mind and WENT AFTER WHAT SHE WANTED So teenagery! She and Pru are both immature. Cande just doesn't try to drink her disappointments away. Bitterness is her drug. Any doubt, look at their final scene as they plan with relish to trash Adelina's reputation. I hope it backfires and Cande comes in for some public humiliation at the hands of Simoneta/Viviana and Pru get's busted for putting out for the idiot Tomas. That's she's doing it under the guise of Bible study will increase the bite! Bald-faced liars and hypocrites the both of 'em!

Yes, T-shirts AND a table for Don Camilo!

Thanks Sara. I can now envision that this ring will be someone's engagement ring after all is said and done. Perhaps, I'm guessing here of course, that after many dramatic issues between Lola and Emanuel, this ring will be Em's inadvertent accidental surprise engagement ring to Lola.

Ha! That would be funny!

Apparently there's a Don Camilo brand of tequila. I assume it is served at the Naughty Melon?

I don't think Roberta registered very high on Cande's list before Sev's involvement. When Dominga asked her about Rob in the first epoch, she was like "oh her? eh, she seems like kind of a hoochie, from what I know. Got all the boys in her yard looking for milkshake and whatnot. I've even seen Sev's eye wander, so no, I don't like her" but no where near "I want to smash an urn of her ashes to the ground and run her sister and her spawn out of town! bwahahaha!"

Gossip in that town is a slow but serious killer. Rob was hysterical over it when Adelina arrived. It let's Aldonza get stoned in public with no reprecussions. It's Cande's worst fear.

I only wish Flavia, Joaquin and Adelina could be seen in town as friends and then Cande's rumour comes around and ppl are like "she's just trying to distract from how she went COMPLETELY CRAZY AT A FUNERAL. Loca."

Unfortunately, I think Flavia will only confirm the rumors about Joaquin and Adelina.

Yeah, Flavia is totally going to feed into the gossip. This is going to get ugly.

I'm so happy we'll get to see that face off between Sev and Don Camilo again next episode. Ha! That was fantastic.

Hey, where's Gringo?

The only reason I don't think the gossip will do Adelina in the way it did Roberta is that Roberta always wanted approval and had more of a tendency to be grumpy and dissatisfied to begin with. I'm not sure if Adelina really cares what people are saying. She's already being ostracized just for being Roberta's sister. If that was going to get to her, I think it would have gotten to her by now. It will be uncomfortable, and she might be well advised to carry an umbrella to protect her from falling rocks, but Adelina seems more worried about things like Severiano killing them than town biddies and their gossip.

I'm guessing that Aldonza's Mis Planes started with the removal of Sev's livestock because she wants to use the land for something else. Like I said, she's well within her rights either way, but I don't think she'd do it purely out of spite. It's a means to an end.

Was Jeronimo the older or the younger brother? I get the feeling that if Jero was the older brother, he saw Cande as his kid brother's friend, and just a kid herself. She certainly didn't know *him* well enough to realize he was thinking of the priesthood, but he was supposed to know that she had feelings for him? And then he was supposed to ignore his vocation because Cande was in luuuuuuuuurve with him? Sorry, Cande, I don't think so. And I am sorry, really, because other than Sev cheating on her, she brought all her unhappiness on herself.

I cringe every time someone touches that candy house, because I know the next person will be thinking of eating it...how many sets of hands have been on that thing in 20 years?!

I was wondering the same thing, Vivi. I know he was having trouble with his comments being eaten. Weird. I hope he doesn't give up. His enthusiasm is energizing!

Jero was the older brother. In the earlier episodes the impression I got was that he chose got not only over women, but also the family land/hacienda. Ray missed his big brother, and Roberta accused him of abandoning his responsibilities to Ray and the land. Jero didn't see it that way, and nor did Ray.

Chose God not got.

We really did get a closer look into the mind of Cande this episode. Really seems like Cande doesn't have any sort of education post whatever they call high school in Mexico. She's the grown up, spoiled, silver spoon princess. When she doesn't get her way she pitches a bitch, screeching, pissing, moaning and blaming others for her troubles! Her only tools are manipulation and subterfuge and she doesn't care who she hurts to get her way.

Cande has a polished exterior and a cool, aloof and haughty persona. People don't suspect underneath she's immature, insecure, selfish, manipulative and even ruthless so when she acts like her true self, people are truly shocked: witness everybody at Roberta's funeral, Sev after Cande meltdown 1.0 and just recently Padre J who absolutely couldn't believe what he was hearing. Let him stick to holding Cande responsible for her own actions and choices, even privately in his thoughts. His pensive mood and telling Donnie that HE had hurt someone unintentionally and he feels badly. The arrogance of that woman upbraiding Padre for following his vocation as his heart and soul compelled him! This may not be Cande's last lashing out/melt down.

Okay guys! Loving hanging out on the patio. Guess I'd better go do some housework: hanging with y'all feels better after I've "earned" it!

I think PJ did know Cande loved him but in his heart had another calling and knew if he had that conversation with Cande it would not go well so he made his choice in private and left leaving loose ends. I don't think PJ thought Cande had Jeronimo & Cande forever all over her notebook and fantasized about being his wife but they were close. Cande was right, whenever they were around each other, he knows, but refuses to go there. He's a man and human and there could have been pain on his end with his decision.

I don't know Tofie. Jeronimo sure had the shocked look on his face when she told him.

I guess it could have been shock that Cande's not over him and is daring to blame him for her crappy life. But the fact that she's "confessing" this to him, to me says that she never said it to him. I think it would be awfully presumptuous of him, in the absence of her ever bringing up her feelings, to say "Hey, listen, I can tell you have a thing for me, but I've gotta tell you, the only bride I ever intend to have is the Church. No hard feelings?" And he might as well have had that conversation with every woman in town, 'cause I'm pretty sure Pre-padre J had more than just Cande's heart beating a little faster when he walked by.

"I guess it could have been shock that Cande's not over him and is daring to blame him for her crappy life" Kat, that is how I'm leaning.

PJ is a humble guy and beats to his own drum. He seems, to me at least, amused at times, the games folks are playing but for what because he's way past that. I get, to accept she loved him so deeply and by not reciprocating she was devastated, his ego would be fed.

Cande's attitude is extreme, but it's another one of those recurring themes in TNs, the idea that if you "love" someone, it entitles you to their love in return. I'm seeing it in Cande, Val, Abelardo, Sylvia, Cris--though I think he's about ready to set it aside, which is good, because this is not good company he's in!

Lila--This was great writing, great reading. Insightful, yet full of fun.

I have breathed a sigh of relief now. Padre J's surprise at Cande's confession (regardless of her wanting to put the blame for her unhappiness onto the object of her affections) tells me Cris is *not* PJ's, so we don't have that to deal with in his relationship to Aldie.

Cris still might be Ray's, but I don't think so. From what I could read into her confession to PJ and Dominga, she married Sev, hoping to "be happy" with him soon after PJ deciding to take his vows, and with Sev knowing she was still in love with PJ.

I don't think she would get into bed with Ray, just to get back at PJ. Her strict upbringing would probably not have allowed her that option. Status and reputation were (and are) everything to her.

Dominga was right in reminding her that she knew this new amante was not the first in Sev's life.

If there were more than Roberta or Simoneta, Cande preferred not to know too much, to ignore it to...what...save face, status and reputation. As long as he did his thing outside SL she'd tolerate it. She couldn't tolerate it being Roberta, doing it right under her nose. Too close for comfort--and a pregnancy on top of that.

Cande has been able to control her world very well (like Lucrecia on Quiero Amarte), but as things come to light and the terrible reminder of the "old days" in Aldonza, Adelina and PJ around so close, it's rattling her. Maybe braiding her hair back up is a sign this latest betrayal is not going to ruin her...what...status and reputation. Easier for her to ruin someone else's, no?

"Padre J's surprise at Cande's confession [...] tells me Cris is *not* PJ's, so we don't have that to deal with in his relationship to Aldie." Yes, Anita! When she said "responsibility" I think I stopped breathing, thinking she was about to tell him Cris was his son...major relief!

Dominga also brought up a good point, which is that Cande "suspecting" that Sev was getting his fix elsewhere is different than "knowing" it for sure.

Before I make a point, I want to say that I truly believe that if there are problems in a marriage, they should be worked out or end the marriage. Now with that being said and not to defend Sev, I think that if ones spouse cuts the other off from sex, but they both decide to stay married for whatever reason, I can understand why the other one may still wanting to have sex and then get it from someone else. And for the crazy reasons that Sev and Cande stay married, Cande can't be too upset that Sev has had lovers. If it bothers her, end the marriage. Otherwise, shut up.

At least Simoneta isn't married to a guy in town Cande knows and grew up with.

I'm not willing to go so far as to say that just because Cande cut him off, Sev has de-facto permission to sleep with whoever he wants to, BUT...

Am I remembering correctly that Cande told him she didn't care who he slept with, as long as he kept it quiet, because he was *never* getting back into her bed? Or is that wishful thinking on my part?

Even if she is ok with him having a mistress, she had just succumbed to his seduction and overheard him the next day telling his mistress it was only a strategy. Pretty humiliating.

Tofie- You beat me to it. That's exactly why Cande was in such a rage. Hearing him talk about her like that, and with his mistress, who it turns out is in town!

Agreed. Whether she knew and/or approved doesn't mean she's not allowed to feel hurt.

Wait till she finds out she invited her to the engagement party unaware.

I want front-row seats to THAT fireworks display!

What? I can't be simultaneously empathetic and enjoy a good show?

If I cut my husband off from sex and told him we won't be doing that again, I would expect him to either leave the marriage or cheat on me. I know he loves me but he would never be willing to tolerate a sexless marriage. And I would never expect him to just go along with it either.

Additionally, Sev can shut it with the whole "You weren't giving me what I wanted!" because he was cheating BEFORE Cande threw him out of their bedroom. Just because he has a "need" for illicit sex in barns with women he's not married to doesn't mean he's entitled to it.

So how far can Sev demean Cande before she won't take it anymore? So far there hasn't been a limit to what she will tolerate to stay married. Maybe finding out that he raped the girl that their son loves will be the final straw. Maybe not.

Who knows the threshold of the women sickly obsessed with Severiano. He mistreats Simoneta and she wants more, nearly begging. Good thing she has no relationship with Lola or he would go there. Not sure raping someone else's daughter will be it for Cande though, she was ok taking a child away from it's mother and telling her it was dead. That's pretty extreme.

"So far there hasn't been a limit to what she will tolerate to stay married."

I don't think it would be anything in particular that he's done, it would be having the good townspeople of SL find out about it. I keep telling her to just put a hit out on him, but she can't seem to hear me screaming through the TV.

The Sev/Cande marriage is one of those TN plot devices where I really need to tighten my beanie. I can't imagine "appearances" are so important that a person would go to such extremes. Then again, you see stories like that on the ID Discovery Channel all the time.

Hi everyone! I called it! I told you my theory that she was into him and that he never felt the same way about her, it is so unfair for her to blame him for her failed marriage. Sev and Roberta are the only two responsible for that-however, Cande has to take some of the blame, she told Sev that they would stay married, but that she was done with him, that he could do whatever he wanted with whomever he wanted but god help him if people found out. She was young and beautiful-and wealthy, she could have made a happy life for herself-instead she stayed and created a miserable life for herself, Sev and Roberta.

I don't care how hurt she is, she denied a mother the chance to be with her child and poor Em-who I firmly believe to be the missing baby grew up in a house with people who made him feel unwanted and unloved, so my sympathy for her is at zero level, I don't care if her puppy dies, if she gets a bunion or if a piano falls on her head, the simple act of taking a baby away from its mother makes her a monster, the fact that her encouragement and demands to Sev that he do something drastic enough for Roberta and family to leave, which led to the rape of Aldonza put her over the edge for me, I can't root for her.

Sev's the one who has everything to lose, if only Cande would let go of thinking she just *has* to be married to him in order to keep her crown. It's *his* position that depends on her, not the other way around, but you wouldn't know it by the way she acts.

Eli, thank you! I see you also remember that convo where she told him to get it elsewhere. I thought I might have been imagining that!

Nope, she told him to boink anyone he wanted but to never let it get out

He's playing way too fast and loose with that, with Simoneta being in town. And by making the call from the house phone in the first place, which he chastised himself for...sure, he had no way of knowing Cande would pick up, but he also had no way of knowing any random member of the household staff would pick up either! Stupid move!

Right?! That's what cell phones are for dude!

And a disposable, pay-as-you=go cell phone, at that! Not your usual cell phone. I guess Sev doesn't watch as much cable TV as I do.

Cause I don't have cable my question is this: Did Cande figure out who the other woman is?

I don't think so. I know she's talked to Simoneta a few times, but I don't know if it would be enough to recognize her voice.

Thank you, dear Anita! It absolutely was symbolic to me when Cande carefully reapplied her makeup and her helmet hairdo before she went out to face the world. It's an integral part of the mask for her role as the respectable, unshakable Cande. She's her own worse enemy but it seems Sev is willing to play Simonetta/Viviana and Cande against each other, openly using Cande's knowledge of S/V (hmmm, goes with Sev) to keep Cande in line.

"...keep Cande in line..."

What does that mean, though. Seems to me Cande has been in charge all this time and SHE is keeping HIM in line.

Sev is the one who is up the creek with no paddle. Hell, even if he had a paddle he'd just end up going in circles.

(Hell in 3...2...1)

(I laughed...save me a seat on the bus.)

Cande does hold all the cards. But she thinks she needs a husband. Or rather, the history of having been married to the same guy all this time. Because otherwise, she might as well dump his sorry ass and, I dunno, marry some young hottie so she could be all "Yeah, that's right, I'm married to a total studmuffin. You got something to say?"

"But she thinks she needs a husband."

I have to remember that this attitude is still alive and well.

I love being married and I can't imagine life without my husband (He's really awesome.)

But my daughter doesn't even date (she's 26) and she's fine with that. She'd like to get married, but it's not the focus of her life.

When she was a freshman in college someone asked her if she was just there for an MRS degree. She was pissed.

So yeah, my point (I think) is that as much as I shake my head and Cande and want to try to say "it's a stupid TN thing" it really isn't.

"shake my head AT Cande"

(one day I will learn to type.)

Cande's been very clear from the beginning about her values and how she assigns worth to women based on their behavior (or perceived behavior). At least she's not holding herself to a different standard...but hot damn it's a pretty restrictive standard! It's pretty impressive to me that Cris doesn't believe all the same stuff his parents do. And ironic that it's the people on this show who are the most rigid in their beliefs about what "decent" behavior is who are doing the worst stuff.

By "...keep Cande in line..." I'm going by what Sev himself said. He said now more than ever he wants S/V to stay because now Cande would be less likely to cause a scandal. So apparently it's not just the women who are concerned about their public image. Sev has stated on several occasions that his image in the town as respectable and honest is very important to him: He was willing to kill Padre Sixto to protect that image; he was (I'm convinced) going to kill Roberta to do the same. He wanted to maintain that image with Cris but he gambled on outing himself to Cris and has won. So. We know he's a sorry ass and Cande holds all the cards but he didn't get the memo.

Another image he wants to uphold is that of the great and powerful Sev. That's why Aldonza is rocking his world and last night he just met somebody else that doesn't know or care about his reputation as a bad ass.

"It's pretty impressive to me that Cris doesn't believe all the same stuff his parents do."

Another Cande plan that backfired! (Like the engagement party.)

"Let's send him away for school"

That's where he got all his crazy liberal ideas!

Wasn't it interesting that when Cande left the house and Dominga asked where she was going and she said she was having lunch with her lover and she goes to see PJ? And then has lunch with Pru.

Thanks for the explanation, Lila. Now I get it.

"...that of the great and powerful Sev"

LMAO right now. Just picturing Sev and his one armed self behind the curtain.

cathyx, that line cracked me up! I wish she would get a lover...too bad there aren't any viable candidates in town.

Sara, oh Sev is so totally behind the curtain, pretending to be way more impressive than he actually is.

I got totally crude when I read your comment cathyx. I decided not to say anything...but it was funny and Cande really should get a lover...or something. I really enjoyed our brief peek at a more relaxed Cande.

Sara--
This one is worth repeating. The visual is droll.

"Sev is the one who is up the creek with no paddle. Hell, even if he had a paddle he'd just end up going in circles."

I'm really surprised there haven't been more arm jokes. Or maybe I'm just the insensitive one. ;-)

I do enjoy Susanlynn's use of "Severed".

And Anita- every time you comment I just picture a hand sticking out of the shrubbery. ;-)

I wish she would get a lover...too bad there aren't any viable candidates in town. For real! Don't follow the example of your friend, Pru!

Hey, with Cande and Sev both dependent on their image as upright and stalwart leaders of Santa Lucia, doesn't that give S/V some power chips? Hmmmm, well, it could but she doesn't have the ovaries for the job. Sev has her whipped and she's more interested in fulfilling her mild curiosity (as Tofie put it) about Lola. By the way, I hate what she's doing with Lola totally clueless. Dominga and Mel need to talk to that girl ASAP!

I am late to the party. Thanks, Lila, for another recap that snapped, cracked, and popped.

I definitely think that Chris took the opportunity to relieve some personal frustration by pushing Rival Ren around. He looked like a moving train.

Tomas deciding to take a baseball bat to the magical, mystical candy house was funny...a little boy set on getting dome candy.

My favorite part of the whole episode was Camilo looking completely unfazed when Severed pointed the gun at him and simply pulling out his own gun. Ha

Is anyone watching ''Outlander'' on Starz ?Wow..a Scottish telenovela.

OT: Susanlynn--Your comment was the last one, but the first one I saw. I don't get Starz, but I got hooked on their first "free" episode. Then I saw Netflicks had the complete Season One. Dang! It ended on a cliff-hanger and I have to wait, don't know how long for Netf to come out with Season Two.

I don't normally like semi-fantasy time-travel, but this one is really good, if only it were a little less violent--but I guess the 1740s were pretty violent.

Go Camilo. I hope he lasts. Can't wait to see who stands down first. Monday can't come soon enough.

The Candy House--is this the first neuter(ed) galan in a telenovela?

"Monday can't come soon enough."

My sentiments exactly.

Cande - nope, nope, don't want to know what's in a hotdog

Hard Candy House - dare you, double dog dare

PJ - earth to Cande

Severiano - come on Cande, it's not like I'm using your money to pay for her apartment

Cris - if you can't beat em, beat em

Don Camilo - look buddy, here's my phone, call somebody that gives a shit

Aldonza - they poop on my lawn and no one scoops

Emmanuel - if you can't ride the twist o whirl, jump on the mari go round

Tofie- that is a perfect summary of the Don Camilo scene!

Looky! I have one too and don't give a shit about yours.

Don Camilo must not be from SL. Otherwise he would have been afraid of the Great and Powerful Sev.

Tofie..another fun list. Thanks for some morning giggles. I especially enjoyed, ''If you can't beat 'em, beat 'em.''

well, it looks as if Severed is taking things into his own hands...hand ...since his original henchman Hum is no longer obeying orders and he now only has his little henchboy Lardo.

Anita...I did not realize that the second season had started so I do not know how many episodes I missed. You are right about Outlander being violent and graphic.

See, that's what bugs me. Humberto did nefarious stuff in the past but the only muscle he's got is Abelardo. So far the big bad ass has gone after a priest (from behind) and women and the one time a man went at him he lost an arm and had his Roberta not shot her loving husband in the back Sev would be dead. Now, if he had some posse behind him doing his dirty work instead of obsessed women I would understand the fear and trembling but he doesn't. I bet Roberta was not the only married woman he boinked, nor Aldonza the only young woman he sexually assaulted so his body should be in a ditch somewhere fertilizing weeds.

Susanlynn-- OT-Outlander. You've only missed one or two. Ep. 110 was on last week and 111 is on tonight. Apparently, you can catch 110 at 7:00 pm.

Tofie--I've been following your one-line characterizations for sevral tns now. You just get better and better.

I also just *loved* Don Camilo's and Cris's - If you can't beat 'em, beat 'em.

Susanlynn--Lardo is definitely Little Henchboy!!

Tofie--I'm sure you meant Sev did nefarious stuff, but we get it!

It's interesting that he keeps Melesio around, because he definitely wouldn't engage in nefarious stuff. Maybe Melesio is there because he's married to Dominga, who is under Cande's protection and is probably good with the horses.

His "posse" consists of all the townfolk who are scared of him and wouldn't think of crossing him and the folks who are willing to look the other way--or admire his position in the town. Wait till that posse goes up in smoke (and I don't mean the melon-field burning kind).

Sever actually seems to have done most of his business on the up and up. He's all about using the basic tips on making friends and influencing people. He definitely believes in I scratch your back, you scratch mine. Look at how he interacted with head of the police academy in DF who buy horses for him, and with Uriel. It wasn't about fear. They think he's a respectable guy, and they know he holds influence and power. When someone steps out of line, like the Doc, he uses he influences and status to malign that person's reputation and to make life difficult. With Humberto, he let it be known far and wide to all the bank managers in the region that Hum was a bad investment. No violence needed, but just as effective in many ways for sinking your enemy. This is also much of the reason why folks like Mel will admit that Sever is demanding, arrogant even, but no one would believe he's violent and would do something like burn crops and rape a young girl. And frankly, I DON'T believe he has done something like this to anyone else. This is all about his deep dark obsession with the Santuario lands and getting back at the Alcocers.

The sun is out and it is WARM here. have been out trying to get the garden shaped up, so have not had much time for coffee on the patio or drinks at the Naughty Melon. Am wondering if Cande will pursue Padre J and what his reaction will be. Also loved Don Camilo whipping out his gun. Was hoping he would plug Sev, but of course that will not happen.

Hang in there Renato, but I know that is not going to happen either.

Have not had a chance to thank Sara and Lila for their recaps. Much enjoyed and appreciated. Has anyone seen Gringo? Always look forward to his imput. Another cup of coffee and out to work on the garden some more.

Thank you Susanlynn! :D

Love your list and your comment at 11:35, Tofie. Excellent points about Sev's bad assery being just so much cowardice and preying upon the weak and unsuspecting. Weak as in women weakened by their own lust or weakened by the shock of assault and frankly being physically overpowered by a stronger person seeking to do violence via sexual violation. If there are other women in town whom he done wrong, they must be mighty afraid not to even have slipped and whispered about his trysts and assaults. Remember way back one day Lulu wanted despearately to talk to Padre J and he dismissed her? Maybe that was nothing but they called our attention to it.

Anyway, Anita you said it perfectly, his "posse" is the frightened and cowed townsfolk. Maybe if they see somebody can take him down, they will turn on him and help finish him off. Roberta did what she did because she was foolish enough to think Sev would leave Cande for her. Maybe S/V is that foolish, too and would turn on him one day. For now she seems quite content to be whipped and kept so unless she does a big turn around, I don't see it.

Okay! See y'all a little later!

I remember that Lila and I've wondered if Lulu had been assaulted. I was thinking Lardo or Tomas, but Sev might be a possibility too.

OT..Thanks for the information, Anita. Starz keeps showing the most recent episode ''The Devil's Mark'' over and over. I do not know what number it is. I hope that they replay the previous episode.

Sunny here but chilly. Yesterday , the temp was almost 80. My forsythia are blooming. Next come the irises and rhododendrons. I love spring. Maybe Candy and Pru should start a garden club to keep them occupied.

Lila--I've been outdone by Vivi's excellent perception of all things Sev. Still, I think that those who've been burned by Sev and know it was Sev do not try it again, for fear of further retribution. I think this is his modus operandi.

OT: I got Starz last year after they got me hooked on a few episodes of Outlander. Haven't seen the new season epis yet though.

Vivi, I agree Severiano's business dealings have been fair (actually thinking that same thing as I wrote my prior comment), he is well respected/feared (that gang giving Abelardo a beat down beat it) and the bulk of his manipulative machinations are clandestine. However, he is quick to use a thinly veiled threat and when that doesn't get the results he wants he's attacks the unsuspecting as a coward will when their back turned or prey on their family.

Thank you, Emeraldrose! Thank you so much! :D

Points well-presented and taken on Sev, Vivi. I hate to admit the truth of your points, slimy bastard that he is, but facts are facts. I think we will get to see what happens next week when Cris throws his support fully behind his dad. His attacking Renato before he even knew what was going on I feel was more about Aldonza but I think the more he takes his father's point of view and identifies the Mendoza's interest as his own, the darker he'll get and THAT will be hard to take!

tofie, "Don Camilo - look buddy, here's my phone, call somebody that gives a shit" win!

Anita. "Maybe Melesio is there because he's married to Dominga, who is under Cande's protection and is probably good with the horses." I think that's exactly it. He can threaten to fire Melesio all he wants to, but Cande would step in and override him. Plus it would be a stupid move--he really needs Mel around to keep the ranch running and even Em is probably not capable of taking on that responsibility just yet. Sev is "front of house" taking care of making the deals and bringing in new stock; Em is good at the actual training part; Mel is managing the ranch and employees. Sev's delusional if he thinks he can run the whole thing single-handedly. (*smirk*)

I'm of the opinion that Sev's misdeeds haven't been confined to the Alcocer/Lozada women. My guess is that no one speaks up, because who would believe them? The cops are on his side, as is everyone else whose livelihood depends on him.

Hey, Diva and others! Remember a couple of weeks ago Sev was with some random dude and they were watching E-man put some lovely horse through its paces and Sev was actually, bragging is the only word I can think of, bragging about E-man's unparalleled skill with the horses! Maybe you all discussed that on a day when I was unable to keep up with comments but I thought that was amamzing. Of course, he's not telling anyone that's his son (as we are all pretty sure E-man is) but it seemed he took some private pleasure in beholding and "showing off" E-man's horsemanship which is a combination of skill and instinct.

Just remembered that. Sorry if it's a repeat.

Lila, yes, the random guy who showed up out of nowhere...I think his name was Jacinto. It would have been a touching, proud papa moment if not for, well, Sev. One of the two guys said something about Em being "born" for the saddle. I wonder, if Cande hadn't been against it, would Sev be tempted to claim Em as his son, or at least claim him as the child of a relative. Cande has kept him away from both of his sons. It would be unfortunate, normally, but in this case, I think both boys are better off not actually having been raised by him!

Yah, that's why I'm interested to see how Sev's influence is going to change Cris.

As well as, how is it going to change the way Sev operates? If Cris is going to stick around and try to support Sev, Sev will have to clean up his act and get sneakier about any dirty dealings. Or get better at justifying how "Oh, no, this is totally the way things are done, nothing wrong with it at all, son...uh, but don't tell your mother...."

That's entirely possible. I'm interested as well in seeing if Sev will influence Cris's ideas about interpersonal relationships, specifically with women. I don't like to talk about previews or steal the Monday recapper's thunder, but he said something to Aldonza that was disconcerting.

Oh well. Enough said. Back on the road. See y'all later!

Lila, great recap. Thanks so much.

We are few days behind, so just commenting now. Don Camilo rocks.

Mr. LN says that (especially after seeing Candela in her red dress the other night) if Candela came to him and confessed her love, he would leave the priesthood for her without second thought!

I know I have read mention of Sevriano's horseshoe cravat/tie-tack pin, and I have noticed him wearing it a few times now. He had it on in Friday's episode. I believe that it is the source of his problems. You can't wear or display a horseshoe upside down. The luck spills out of a horseshoe if it is not displayed facing up, like a cup. I don't know if it is intentional, or it is only an American superstition and the direction of the horseshoe is not important in Mexico, but sev always wears his pin with horseshoe facing down.

LN, I've heard that about horseshoes, too! At my wedding, I was given a horseshoe with ribbon tied over the top by my then-boss' daughter (or really, by his wife, who was English, and said it was a tradition for children to give the bride horseshoes). I've always hung it dangling from the ribbon, above my front door, so the horseshoe faces up. I need all the luck I can get!

Lila - thank you for the recap. It was a fun read.

I'm not watching 'Outlander' but read the first five up to and including "Fiery Cross" from the series of books. They are page turners, for sure.

LN - very little in telenovelas is accidental. The wardrobe people know what they are doing, more often than not. My guess is that Sev's horseshoe situated incorrectly is no accident.

I think Sev is just arrogant enough to wear the horseshoe upside down on purpose.

I've been re-watching Un Refugio. Bombastic Don Aquiles Trueba Tajonar was wearing a horseshoe stick pin upside down in a recent episode...and we know what happened to him!! At least he got the funeral of the century in San Francisco el Alto (better known as Het Het).

Hey, LN! Thank you! Love Mr. LN's confession! Hahahaha! Interesting about Sev's horseshoe! Didn't know that about the horseshoe. Good. Let him keep it upside down!

Thank you, Doris!

Hey, Sombra patio peeps! Are we all talked out? Cande's confession stole a lot of thunder this weekend, what about Padre J's confrontation with Humberto over Roberta's baby? He didn't waste any time getting back on the investigation once Dominga gave him the real scoop on Lola!

It is so refreshing to have someone be so upfront like Padre J and to have the conversations actually play out without stupid and unnecessary interruptions! I'm sure Padre J has a table and perhaps he's written a book, I don't know, Divine Enlightenment for Dummies, or something. Maybe he has a favorite brand of butterscotch candies or ice cream we could stock in the tiendita?

A Padre J Magic 8-ball?

"Ay, por Dios!"
"No soy nadie para juzgar."
"Ya sabes lo que te voy a decir."

Hey, Diva! Are those book titles?

Lol, I was thinking those would be potential answers from the Padre J Magic 8-Ball..."Padre J, should I tell Lola that her biomom isn't dead and is in town?"..."Ya sabes lo que te voy a decir."

Ah! You know, with him being so upfront and everything, now that he's composed himself from the shock of Dominga's revelation, do you think he will counsel her to tell Lola?

And he's so swift that all he needs is to talk to E-man once, or even just watch him for a few minutes, maybe observe the interaction between him and Donnie to figure it out.

Once he does, would he go confront Sev? He already did once! What will Cris do when he finds out?

That story around E-man is way more interesting than his crush on silly-head Lola or the aging teenager, Mari!

Love the Padre J Magic 8 Ball!

Okay. I confess. I have no idea what you guys are talking about with this 8 ball, but somehow I don't think it has anything to do with pool.

o_O

Ohhhhhhh! A Magic 8-Ball is a toy that looks like the 8 ball you use for pool, but it's bigger, plastic, and filled with liquid. You ask questions, shake it, and turn it upside down to look into a little window where another piece of plastic (floating inside) has generic, mystical answers on it.

Mostly when I was growing up we would ask "Does so-and-so have a crush on me?" Good times.

Thanks, Diva. Don't know how I missed out on that one. Maybe we were too poor and so used cootie catchers we made ourselves!

;D

I think some Padre J-isms would work really well with a cootie catcher... I wonder if I still remember how to fold one... There's probably a tutorial on the Internet somewhere!
