La Sombra del Pasado #99, 7-3-15 Baby Bomb Bombs!

Hey, y’all!  I am so glad to be back with y’all on the patio.  Thank you, Diva, for covering for me last Friday and thank you to all my awesome teammates:  Diva, Eli, Hellashelle and Sweet Baby Chihuahuas for the past two weeks of recaps of some exciting episodes.  I so missed hanging out with y’all but I’m back now with not quite a blockbuster episode but anyhoo, here it is!

Padre Jeronimo, he of the iron halo, thanks Ren and Silvia for that brilliant sting and take-down of Sev’s evil plot to destroy PJ with an accusation of sexually abusing and impregnating a young, mute girl.  PJ doesn’t want to press charges:  it won’t do any good.  He wants to trap Sev in something much bigger, more important; something that will show the whole town who Sev really is!  PJ knows that this fight against Sev in the long run might cost him his life but he can’t let Sev get away with his arrogant and cynical treatment of the town as if it’s his own tool to use as he wishes.  Silvia and Ren pledge their unconditional support!

Adelina sits holding a picture of Raymundo and we are whisked with her to the terrible night of Raymundo’s murder.  Roberta is wearing red, but it’s not festive or sexy red, but the not yet dried blood of . . .who, her lover, Sev, or her husband, Raymundo, mortally wounded after she shot him in the back?  Roberta feigns surprise at Jock’s recent announcement that Ray had died in an automobile crash.  Adelina slapped Roberta hard and wished her and her damned lover a quick trip to hell.  In fact, she was going to the police!  Adelina confessed her love of Raymundo and cursed the day he married Roberta who stops her at the door and falls to her knees to beg Adelina not to tell.  Back in the present Adelina repeats “it was my fault, my fault.”  Dominga, ever ready with comfort startles Adelina who asks Dominga to pay her no mind.  Ay, what a tragedy was Raymundo’s life, so young with a new baby.  The worst part of it is, Adelina intones looking at the picture, is that it could have been prevented.

Adelina has summoned Jock.  Her face is unexpressive as she tells Jock he must go back to Flavia.  She’s not the woman he thinks she is and she’s no better than Flavia.  Jock tries to protest, she continues stonily that she has committed errors in her life which, when he discovers them, he will understand.  First, she must speak to Aldonza who is most affected by these errors.  He’ll find out in due time.  Jock sees it’s no use, accepts and leaves.

Aldonza takes refuge in the church and the arms of PJ.  She tells him about Vile’s baby bomb and that Cris confirmed it.  Padre seems to fight hard not to roll his eyes.  Instead, he counsels that all three of them need to think about the decision they are about to make as it will affect not only them, but an innocent child.  “It’s not the end of the world, though it may seem so.”  No advice is too sage or heartfelt to be ignored by our Aldonza.  PJ might as well be talking to one of the pews.  This same evening finds Dom and Mel waiting outside for Lola to return from the bus station.  They discuss Adelina’s crying over Ray’s picture and saying it was her fault.  Mel rightly guesses that Adelina feels guilt over Raymundo’s death.  Dom supposes so.  Adelina put up a barrier and she didn’t insist.  Ah, Mel muses, it seems that all of us have a shadow in our past but for him, it’s best to let the dead stay buried and resting in blessed peace.  This bit of philosophical jaw-boning is interrupted by Lola’s return.  They all go into the house amidst happy talk of yummy dinner and presents for the abuelitos.

Aldonza returns home and delivers a buzz kill to the happily chatting and dining Dom, Mel, Lola and Adelina with news of the baby bomb.  She had decided to forget about the thing with Val but this is the limit.  She’s going on with the divorce.  Dom doesn’t  realize who he’s talking to and asks what Cris thinks about this.  What Cris thinks is the last thing that matters to her.  Whether he likes it or not is not her problem.  Adelina also cautions that she might be making a mistake.  The decision is made Aldonza declares.  She’s going ahead with the divorce and this time she won’t turn back.

Vile gloats to Pru about her ambush of Cris and Aldonza at the bus station and later fills Cande in on the details.  Cande’s face shines with near orgasmic glee as Vile relays that her sudden appearance and declaration that she was having Cris’s baby hit Aldonza like a bomb.  Cande approves.  Cris storms into the room as best he can with his quad cane, Cande leaves.  Cris wants to know why the hell Vile did what she did:  it was HIS place to tell Aldonza of the pregnancy!  Not one to let a bald face lie cut the conviction with which she slings it Vile says she has every right in the world to be the one to tell her!  Cris doubts that the child is even his and HOOORAAAY, he stops her arm mid-slap which leads to a luke warm insult of poco hombre.  “Be clear that even though Aldonza doesn’t want me, I’m not going to marry you!”  Vile screams and assaults her bed in a little hissy fit.

Now.  I apologize up front for not doing justice to the hilarious confession of Tomas to PJ.  Tomas wants to hit the low lights in a quick summary of his sins so it doesn’t take all night:  He began to stray when he took up with Abelardo (QEPD); he and Lardo harassed Aldonza but Cris defended her; he stole documents out of Humberto’s office which wasn’t as bad as when they shot up Aldonza’s house.  Padre expresses surprise and tells him he was there and a bullet whizzed right past his head!  PJ tells him to reflect on his actions and to pray an “Our Father” every day for a month.  Oh, he’s not done, he’s hardly gotten started!  You know that commandment about not coveting your neighbor’s wife.  Well, he blew that one right out of the water but it’s over because his novia broke up with him yesterday and that’s why he took to the bell tower, to get her attention, but she didn’t even show up!  He was filled with shame, he wanted to just wanted to end it all.  Oh hell, cut to the chase.  He confesses this  novia is Prudencia and the gentle, plaintive melody accompanying this little scene grinds to a halt.  Prudencia!  Now PJ DOES roll his eyes.  You mean, you and Prudencia. . .yeah, everything, everything.  PJ is surely summoning the help of the shimmering sapphire blue Virgin in the stained glass window behind them for patience as he realizes that the bible studies were all a front for their illicit affair.  PJ wants to know if Tomas fell in love or was it just the satisfaction of lust?  Tomas wonders if it can’t be both things at once.  Ok, that’s it, PJ calls a halt to the confessions:  PJ has to conclude that if the bible came into his hands through the affair with this Señora then it confirms that God surely does act in mysterious ways.  He prescribes the praying of “Our Father” and “Ave Maria” every night before going to sleep. . . .Forever!  I don’t really understand the other nuggets of religious instruction he gives Tomas.  It’s not a religious misunderstanding, rather picture pixilation courtesy of Comcrap.  Feel free to fill in.

PJ and Tomas leave the church and there is a new spring in Tomas’s step:  He feels like a ton of weight has been lifted off his shoulders!  PJ faces him and looks at him stoically and then BAM wallops Tomas upside the head knocking him right on his silly ass!  What was that?  Tomas thought God had forgiven him!  “Yah, He did but I didn’t!  You could’ve gotten us both killed!”  PJ helps him up and without missing a beat suggest they go and chow down on some enfrijoladas!  Oh, PJ!  What a MAN of the cloth!

Ah, that was fun!  Onward!  No Mari-free episode for me!  RPC:  During a meal at the Lagos home, Mari proposes working at  the ribbon shop to establish a bitch outpost to drive Lola away.  Uriel and Mari trash Lola, calling her a thief and digging Irma out for taking her side against Mari.  Irma stands firm:  Mari can work in the shop if she wants but she is going to give Lola the benefit of the doubt and not fire her on Mari’s whim.  Deal with it, homies!

Jock returns home after being ditched by Adelina and pays Lulu for babysitting.  Lulu loves little Ray and almost feels guilty getting paid for it but she gets over it.  Lulu unabashedly pumps him for information about the state of his relationship with Flavia and the dumping by Adelina.  Jock is not interested in Flavia, he only wants Adelina.  Jock learns the whole town is all up in his bidness  re Flavia’s affair and is left feeling more than a little helpless and disarmed to learned that little Ray plied Lulu with questions of his own about when he would see his mom again.  Sigh.

Hey!  Here’s Eman!  He’s walking with Veronica near the corral at Don Antonio’s ranch.  I am distracted by someone riding a black beauty of a horse, putting it through its fancy horsey footwork.  Wow!  Oh.  Anyway, Eman is appreciating the rub down he got the other day with that special butt rub cream.  What?  That was hand cream!  She was just trying to break the ice with him!  LOL!    Is he always so serious?  The two bond, Eman learns that Veronica’s father abandoned her when she was just a wee lass so she doesn’t remember him much and mommy is getting busy with her new beau over in Par-ree.  He also learns that Uncle Antonio is like a father to her and Eman gushes that he has already become like that for him with his generosity and big heart.  Hmmm.  Apparently Veronica rides competitively as well and will be in the next competition.  This prospect is pleasing to Eman.  As they part, Veronica smoothly moves in for a kiss.   I like Veronica for Eman.  You’ll see why in the next paragraph.

Lola is with Pato in his office chattering away about the Aldonza/Cris/Val mess.  He’s trying to work but finally gives up when he sees the bonehead won’t stop talking.  She notices a bruise on his arm.  He tells her Mari did it when she got freaked out at the movies.  Of course Lola does her own freak out and leaves the office in a huff just as Silvia arrives.  Silvia advises Pato to do something to demonstrate to the idiot that he wants her.  Sorry.  This chick bugs me.

Next we have a psycho-montage of the aftermath of the baby bomb:  Val walks in the garden of LA reliving her and Lardo and the hump on the graffiti-covered wall; Cris sits in bed remembering the phantom hump with Vile and asks “why was I so stupid?”  That’s too easy.  Aldonza sits on her bed watery eyed as she relives overhearing Eman tell Lola that Vile and Cris spent the night together.  Okay.  Clear your mouths if you’re eating, take a swig of whatever poison you like.  Sev walks up and sees Val in the garden.  He is touched by her pensive mood.  Oh, Val is worried about her child.  Sev tells her not to worry; the child will never want for anything!  Oh, he must think the worst of her getting knocked up out of wedlock when all she ever did was accuse Aldonza of the very same thing!  Sev strokes Vile’s  face and hair, gazing at her eyes and lips and tells her not to EVA compare herself with that woman.  “You are much more woman than her.”  Vile seems to feel the queasiness  we all do as she grasps his hand and removes it from her face.  After Vile leaves, Sev rubs the hand that caressed Vile’s face over his lips, and inhales.  He is moved.

RPC.  Fill in, y’all.  Al goes to Ren’s office.  Thanks him for his dad’s hospitality.  The divorce is back on as scheduled.  Silvia comes in just in time to hear this and is visibly deflated.  One more thing, the exhumation can proceed.  The remains will be taken to San Miguel and the ashes delivered back to her.  Aldonza tells Ren not to let Adelina know.

Lola and Mari at the ribbon shop.  RPC.  Irma apologizes to Lola who says that someone has poisoned Irma against her.  Mari smirks in the background.  Irma announces Mari will now be working there and she hopes they can get along.  No need, Lola quits.   I wish I could twitch my nose and have Sara appear to punch Mari in the throat!

Pato has gone looking for Lola with a big, fat, purty bouquet of flowers.  He finds her crying on a park bench.  It’s about quitting her job.  There’s no way she could work with Mari!  "Oh, and are these flowers for her!?  Give them to her!Lola snatches the bouquet and smashes it to smithereens!  Pato yells at her to STOP!  They are for her!  He looks at the wreckage of the flowers, picks up one less injured and asks if she wants to be his novia.  She picks up a rose and joins it with his wounded lilly and accepts.  They kiss.  Good.  Take this silly heffa off the market!

Jock picks up little Ray from school.  He drew the requisite heart-rending picture of himself, mommy and daddy together.  He wants to know when mommy is coming home.  A humbled and less bitch-faced Flavia watches in the background and scurries away unseen.  Jock distracts Ray with the promise of filling his tummy.

Cris goes to Al.  Of course all that matters is that SHE has nothing more to say.  He tells her anyway that his responsibility is to the child, NOT to Vile.  Doesn’t she love him?  (Say this next sentence with your best dripping with mockery voice).  She loves him with all her soul!  She’s going to do her best to rip him from her heart.  She advises him not to miss the divorce hearing tomorrow.  He tries to go after her.  Camilo stops him from advancing.

Well.  We end with the smitten Sev on his way to deliver a bouquet of flowers to his next  victim.  He meets Cande on the way who lets him know she thinks this gesture is a bit much.  Oh no, Vile is going to be the mother of OUR GRANDCHILD and we must show her support. Whatever, goes Cande who warns him that Pru is in the house.   Cande’s on her way to bring sunshine into the life of Hum by deploying the baby bomb.  Sev continues on into the house and we cut quickly to Vile and Pru in Vile’s room.  Pru is talking in that unmistakable, won’t be hushed, too loud voice of those a few sheets to the wind.  Pru thinks Vile’s efforts to hide her blooming belly with creative wardrobe choices is only going to work so long.  Soon EVERYbody is going to be aware of her deceit!  Vile warns Pru that she’s got to keep her trap SHUT.  Nobody must know that this baby is not Cristobals!  Juuuust in time for Sev to hear!  Sev throws down the flowers, charges into the room and demands to know who the hell is the father of the baby she is carrying!

Uh oh.  Sev is pissed.  He lusts after Vile.  I hate the heffa but I wouldn't wish what he could come up with as "punishment" or "blackmail" even on her!  Y'all get my drift!

YES!  Have at it!

Be back in a minute, y'all! The fam was on vacation and then I needed to recover from THAT but it was all good, big fun and I missed y'all! In a minute!

Gracias, Lila! I was so looking forward to how you would cover this episode...in grand style of course :D I was already giggling at the title!

I'm not sure I buy that Adelina is finally going to tell Aldonza the truth. In fact, I'm pretty sure she's going to use the "the divorce is back on" news as an excuse. *sigh*

"No advice is too sage or heartfelt to be ignored by our Aldonza." Ugh, yep!

“Be clear that even though Aldonza doesn’t want me, I’m not going to marry you!” Go Cris!

Tomas' confession was the best confession EVER! And I LOVE that Padre J punched him after :D

I'm looking forward to seeing Em and Veronica in the next competition. I'm a sucker for the horse stuff.

I changed my mind. Lola can stay single, too. Pato needs someone who doesn't scream at him every five minutes.

The one thing I wanted to point out from Al/Ren in Ren's office...he actually called her on the way she keeps going back and forth about the divorce...and she said this time she's not going to change her mind. *yawn*

Cris and Al's conversation made maybe a tiny bit more sense than the fit she threw at the bus station. OK, I can get not wanting to be with Cris if it means being stuck with Val--if they're going to have a kid together, then Val will always be in the picture. BUT, since she's doing this without even waiting around to see if Val actually IS having his baby then she can shove off.

I am SO glad the baby lie is already out, but I'm with you...I'm afraid of what Sev is going to do with this information. As if all his previous lusting after her wasn't bad enough, the look on his face at the end...it's like he just realized that she really is "worse" than Aldonza like she said, and he thinks she's fair game now. EW!

Lila, welcome back. You did an outstanding job of recapping tonight's offering from SL.

SuperPJ is the best priest ever! The slap up the side of Tomas' head was the best. Now that Tomas has turned the corner into the light, there is no telling what he sort of frijoles he will spill.

Mari needs a quick confession and slap up the side of the head - it would do her a world of good.

Rosemary Primera

Thanks, Diva! This is an important point:

The one thing I wanted to point out from Al/Ren in Ren's office...he actually called her on the way she keeps going back and forth about the divorce...and she said this time she's not going to change her mind. *yawn*

I think I'm going to modify that in the morning. All this flip-flopping has got to be kind of chilling Renato out on Aldonza. I hope so. Remember how thoughtful he was looking while hearing Silvia share her mature perspective on the place of love, and Reanto in her life? I hope he remembers that and realizes he needs this chick (Aldonza) like he needs a hole in the head!

Yah. I get a real bad vibe from Sev now that he knows. Would he be low down, dirty and evil enough to try to blackmail her into a sexual relationship to keep quiet about (his words) the bastard she's carrying? Yeah, he is, but I think that's too low for Val.

If he doesn't do THAT, what will be his price? Will he rat her out? Why did they let Sev be the one to hear this? Interested to hear what y'all think about that!

AUGH!!!! Lila, Thank you for your recap. I know it's your night, but I feel like you took a bullet for whole Patio having to relive this nonsense for our benefit. And thank goodness you did, because you made me laugh rather than throw the tv out the window. Faves:

PJ: whoever said yesterday that this should be his show with Silvia et al in the mix was so spot on! He really has been at his best these past couple episodes. His slugging Tomas was hilarious! So glad he's been extra awesome, because his niece is just...

Aldonza: ok, I don't think there are enough episodes left to get me back on track with this girl. it doesn't matter that her uncle, A PRIEST, thinks she needs to rethink this? It doesn't matter that Cris didn't mean to hurt her? She doesn't care what Cris thinks? She doesn't care what Cris has to say? She's not ready to be married to someone having a kid with someone else? Sweetie, you are not ready to be married at all!!!! I want- no, I need someone to tell her sus cuatro verdades! At the table convo, I thought Mel was going to help me out and say that every time she comes to that table with bad Cris news, she's ended it before even trying to work it out, so she's not ready to marry. When Cris showed up, I wanted him to say "Fine! I'm just here to get the date for the divorce hearing. I ripped mine up because I'm committed to this marriage and I want to work through every possibility of making it work. It's obvious you don't feel the same, so fine. I deserve someone who really is willing to fight for me."

Mari - what can I say? At this point, I just want her to keep throwing out her poison darts in front of her parents so that when the truth comes out, no one has any doubt that she deserves it when I grab her by the ponytail and drag her back into the mud pit.

Uriel - I know he wants to believe Lola's the villain rather than Lardo, but he's an idiot too, so I hope he slips in Mari's mud and falls on his face.

Sev - I'm worried that Sev will simply ally himself with the drunken mess that is Pru and Val. It'll keep Cris away from Al, and I don't know that he'll have to blackmail Val into his bed, but I wouldn't even put that past him. The only thing that I think would stop him is reconciling paying for not-his-nieto.

But if he does burst the baby bomb, I still want Cris to say "to hell with Aldonza!" and finally let her do the running. I am so sick of her at this point, I could scream!

Lola- child is a hot mess. I kind of wanted Pato to cut her loose, what with her inability to shut up when he was trying to work and then her lunatic attack on the poor defenseless flowers. Whatever, as long as Eman, Cris and Pato are happy at the end of this, then I guess it's all good. Silvia...you deserve better, my girl.

I'm starting to get on the Padres Tomas boat. He'd be a really funny padre.

Thanks, Rosemary. Man! I cannot stand Mari! What she is doing to her parents shows such a lack of respect, contempt even, for them! Is all this supposed to be because the poor wittle ting didn't get enuf wuuv? Gag me!

Gracias, Hella! You know, looks like I picked up where I left off: FRUSTRATION!

Love PJ! Donnie? Man. I just don't even know what to say about this girl anymore. She is about a bull-headed piece of work, ain't she? I have never seen such a non-caring, unsympathetic. . .again, if they tied this flopping more to the rape by having some flashbacks of the leering Sev choking her or something just before she kicks Cris to the curb each time, I could get to that. Without that, she just looks as stupid as Lola. You know what? Lola and Aldonza would make a perfect couple! Leave my poor, befuddled Cris alone!

But if he does burst the baby bomb, I still want Cris to say "to hell with Aldonza!" and finally let her do the running. I am so sick of her at this point, I could scream! AMEN!

Thank you Lila!
Excellent recap.
Chris and Al breakup #757?
I was hoping that Adelina would remind Aldi about seeing Val and Lardo making out near the hospital.
Pato get ready for a bumpy ride on the emotional rollercoaster known as Lola!

Thanks, Lila. This was a great recap, lots of laughs sprinkled in with the details. Missed this one, so the recap mattered. Hate I missed the Tomas confession, happy I missed Sev sniffing and slobbering over the scent of a woman.

Whoops. I said Faves, but didn't post them:
"No advice is too sage or heartfelt to be ignored by our Aldonza"
"Not one to let a bald face lie cut the conviction with which she slings it"
"Cris doubts that the child is even his and HOOORAAAY, he stops her arm mid-slap" (weirdly, reminded me of Sev)
"I wish I could twitch my nose and have Sara appear to punch Mari in the throat!" In a perfect world, we could cross our arms and nod, I Dream of Jeannie style, and Diva and Sara would appear to knee-kick and throat-punch all idiots that ruin our days. Sigh. What a beautiful dream...
"(Say this next sentence with your best dripping with mockery voice). She loves him with all her soul!" Seriously, I rolled my eyes so hard, they actually hurt for a second afterwards.

PS: Tofie, I'm ready to sit at the "Enough with this nonsense about yout self-imposed martyrdom, Adelina!" table. This whole thing with Joaq is, for me, the first true martyr moment. You have a good thing, your throwing it away as a sacrifice for Ray. Ray is 5! He will adjust! And you're throwing all of this away without even telling Joaq why so he can make his own decision?! Yeah, no, you can join every woman on the show except Silvia at the "Time Out" or "There's No Going Back for You" tables.

Lola and Irma's conversation - Could Lola see Mari's antics especially when Mari looked upward and made the sign of the cross? That girl needs more than a slap up the side of the head, she needs a good old fashioned smite from the good Lord himself. Pato and Lola together will be good start.

Rosemary Primera

you're*

Hey, PBN! Thanks, kid! You make a great point!

I was hoping that Adelina would remind Aldi about seeing Val and Lardo making out near the hospital.

Sadly, it makes too much sense!

La Paloma! You are welcome! Girl, the confession was the best! I hope I got the religious remedies PJ offered right. PJ decking Tomas was awesome! And, unfortunately, more Sev grossness ahead. Ewww!

Hella! Seriously, I rolled my eyes so hard, they actually hurt for a second afterwards. Hee hee heeeee!

Rosemary! Yes! There must be a lightening bolt with Mari's name on it. Let it singe every hair off her head and let her have an NDE in which she confronts and repents for every sick and cynical dirty trick she has played on Eman, Lola AND her parents!

Lila, glad you are back, thank you for the super great recap!

Writers outdid themselves with the comedy confession scene with Padre and Tomas. Too funny! Agree this show should be centered around our "iron-haloed" hero. And the candy house. And Lulu and Sylvia. Because I need a break from Val, Mary and Lola.

I'm glad for Dominga and Melesio's sake that they are back on speaking terms with Lola, but she (Lola) seems to have forgotten about Sim/Viv. As for Sev, wonder when his phantom pain is going to strike again?

J in Oregon

Lila – Welcome back and thank you for the recap! And written with such literary style! Were you away at a writers' workshop? :-)

”No advice is too sage or heartfelt to be ignored by our Aldonza.”
Perfectly written! There were just too many great lines in your recap for me to list . . .

I am SO over the rest of this telenovela and the people in it, but Padre J just rocks!

The Tomas/Padre J scenes were the best!!! I was LOLing louder than the fireworks our neighbors were setting off. Great writing AND great acting!

Padre J deserves some sort of Telerisa/Looneyvision premio at one of those awards shows.

Excuse me while I toss my cookies over the prospect of Joaquin reuniting with Flavia.

The Cougar Table now has hand cream. We cancelled the BENGAY order.

What better person than Sev to discover Cris is not VileVal's babydaddy! Yipes!

Has Sim/Viv been found yet? I would love some phantom/ghost pain for Sev! We haven’t seen Sim/Viv in a while so maybe she crossed on over into the light and is done harassing him.
Darn.

Oh, and I totally loved Renato telling Aldonza that she is fickle!!! He finally uses his brain.

Hey, J! Thanks! You know, I was just thinking about Simoneta. She HAS totally fallen off Lola's radar. This show IS about the battle between Good and evil. PJ steals the show whenever he's on. I'm gonna try to be done going doh! over Donnie's weekly break ups with Cris. She frustrates the hell out of me along with Lola, Mari and Val. I wish they ALL would just go away. Let Sev get a red hot, atomic anvil for the rape and other dastardly deeds, let Aldonza and those other chicks just hang out in perpetual junior highdom. Cris should leave the country, let Renato, Pato and Silvia take their legal practice back to DF and let Eman keep bonding with Veronica.

Great stuff, Lila, and glad you're back.

Same faves as everyone else and love that Iron Halo comment. Padre Jeronimo is awesome and exemplifies the fact that priests are also human.

I could understand Aldonza not wanting to have to deal with Vileria for the rest of her life, but why couldn't the writers have her say that? Instead she backs off on forgiving Cristobal for something that happened he can't remember because he was three sheets to the wind. I don't remember what details Emanuel told her about that night, but the fact that Vileria rudely refused his assistance should have meant something.

Good for Cristobal that he is continuing to refuse to marry Vileria.

Adelina should remind Aldonza about the time she saw Vileria and AbeLardo, but she's too stuck in Martyr Mode -- also over a child -- to make any sense.

And why does anybody have the insane idea that a marriage of people who hate or don't respect each other is better for a child than having the parents be apart and not in conflict? Cristobal probably missed the worst of this from being in boarding school and later in a foreign university and he knows.

As for Sev being the one to find out the lie, who saw that one coming? I can easily see him blackmailing Vileria into something sexual and I don't know whom I'd rather see find that one out.

More later.

Padre J punching Tomas last night was not exactly the celestial 2 x 4 I was thinking of when T was threatening to jump off the bell tower. But maybe it will do? Time will tell. "God forgives you but I don't". Hhmmm.... sounds like the title of another current prime-time telenovela. LOL

Thanks, Urban! Always look forward to your deep analysis and I see you echo my Aldonza frustrations:

I could understand Aldonza not wanting to have to deal with Vileria for the rest of her life, but why couldn't the writers have her say that?

They want her to look ditzy, is all I can figure. Who had the brilliant idea about the expert vs. the middle school writing team? The latter team definitely got assigned Aldonza, Lola and Mari.

ITA: why does anybody have the insane idea that a marriage of people who hate or don't respect each other is better for a child than having the parents be apart and not in conflict?

Aye, Urban, more frustration and stomach churning ahead as Sev spins the baby bomb lie to his twisted advantage! Later!

Doris, my dear! Thank you!

The Cougar Table now has hand cream. We cancelled the BENGAY order. Excellent choice!

It would be SO refreshing to have both galans fall out of love with the leading lady and let this be about men finding themselves after realizing the object of their idealized and idolized love was just a self-constructed fantasy. Tomas has discovered that and now Renato, Cris and Pato need to wake up as well! Here is the song Cris should be singing: Mirage, by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPG6LsEFTKA

There you were beautiful
The promise of love was written on your face
You led me on with untrue kisses
You held me captive in your false embrace
Quicker than I could bat an eye
Seems you were telling me goodbye

Oh, just a minute ago your love was here
All of a sudden it seemed to disappear
Sweetness was only heartache's camouflage
The love I saw in you was just a mirage

We used to meet in romantic places
Oh, you gave the illusion that your love was real
Now all that's left are lipstick traces
From the kisses you only pretended to feel
And now our meetings you avoid
And so my world you have destroyed

Oh, just a minute ago your love was here
All of a sudden it seemed to disappear
The way you wrecked my life was like sabotage
The love I saw in you was just a mirage

Oh yeah, you only feel me with despair
By showing love that wasn't there
Just like the desert shows a thirsty man
Green oasis where there's only sand
You lured me into something I should have dodged
The love I saw in you was just a mirage. . .

If Sev decides to pull some sexual blackmail on Vile, what do you think he's planning for the baby? He can't make the excuse about it not being his blood because of the precedent of Emanuel.

Since we know he's capable of keeping horrible secrets without a drop of conscience (something he doesn't have) he certainly will not tell Candela, who would be completely livid at this revelation. If we go there she might lose it, then calm down and try to persuade Prudencia to take Vile off to Europe until after the birth and subsequent adoption. Would this be a catalyst to Pru to go on the wagon and become an abuela?

Lila, welcome back. You were on fire with this recap and the added comment with the Smokey lyrics. Fireworks for you! All kinds of awesome.

I think a LARGE batch of Melon margaritas are going to be needed on Monday...maybe even daily, on the patio.

I would be ecstatic if we did get the ending you mentioned Lila, no Lola for either Pato or E-man, and Allie needs to go her own way and leave both Cris and Ren alone. Good one for Ren to call out Allie, but we know these TN's would not do something so practical as having these guys just throw their hands up and say "ok, that's it! Your not worth a life of all this back and forth." I mean, how can you think differently than that these two will always be like this. Argh!

I feel like when I watch Allie, Val and poor Cris in the middle that I'm watching a version of a Jerry Springer show. You always walk away from those shows thinking basically they are all idiots and that poor child. Cris is showing some back-bone and spirit with his refusal to marry Val, but Allie is virtually pushing him to her. Let's see who throws the chair :)

Last night was the first time I thought, you know, Allie was raised by Adelina. They both have that martyrdom complex, won't listen to anyone, think they can make decisions that affect other's lives... Sure they have been through a lot, but it doesn't allow for them to jerk people around like they do. Are we supposed to honestly think this is appealing in these women and feel bad for them, because I'm just supremely annoyed at this point.

Isn't it sad that for PJ it's the Scooby Gang who is pledging their help, and possibly lives, in taking Sev down? Would have been better to me to see Ade and Allie doing the same, but whatever. Every Super Hero has his secret group that helps. And PJ has a good one.

Interesting back story on Veronica to align her with E-man. Right now I'm in with these two because I really don't like the Lola character any more.

The Slime and the Slug - this has to end in blackmail with Sev. But it won't be pretty to watch.

Urban@8:35, Sev overhearing the baby bomb lie is so pleasantly unexpected I don't even know what to make of it! I'm trying to figure out how he could turn it into a weapon to hurt Aldonza and the only way I can see that is him going along with the lie! Candela would go ballistic, put Vile out and demand Sev "do something" again to make sure Cris and Aldonza stay apart. As for Pru going off the wagon, that'll only happen when they take her off it feet first to bury her ass!

Lila, inspired. Every word and phrase was masterful. Welcome back!!

"Padre Jeronimo, he of the iron halo Roberta is wearing red, but it’s not festive or sexy red, but the not yet dried blood of . . .who, her lover, Sev, or her husband, Raymundo, mortally wounded after she shot him in the back?" and "No advice is too sage or heartfelt to be ignored by our Aldonza. PJ might as well be talking to one of the pews" were among my many favorites.

I have to say I was shocked that Sev is now privy to Val's treachery. I am not comforted by the revelation as Sev is bound and determined to keep Cris from Aldonza. And it appears it will be at any cost. I suspect he will not share this news with Cande, but this was an unexpected twist. Kudos to the writers.

Loved that the Padre took a swing at Tomas after the confession. As he should have! LOL. What a mighty, mighty fine man.

"PJ knows that this fight against Sev in the long run might cost him his life". Oh no Padre, you must survive - you are the heart and soul of this story and everyone needs you. Daisy, you made an interesting point that it would have been great to see Aldonza in the back up role to save him.

I know I may be alone in this, but I understand why Aldonza is backing away from Cris. Kat, I am a little surprised the idea Val is lying hasn't occurred to her but she is doing what she feels is best. Val would insinuate herself into every aspect of their lives.

However, Val is doing nothing but distancing herself from Cris and his scorn for her is growing daily. Now she is in Sev's hands. And there is nowhere more dangerous she could be.

Mari is sickening. hellashelle, you nailed it with "I just want her to keep throwing out her poison darts in front of her parents so that when the truth comes out, no one has any doubt that she deserves it when I grab her by the ponytail and drag her back into the mud pit". Amen.

Lila, so glad you are back.

Diana

Morning, Daisy and thanks! I could just quote your paragraphs 5 and 6 verbatim! Ade IS Allie's mom and she certainly imparted every ounce of her attitude and approach towards life. Both are righteously block-headed! And I was also just thinking they should have written it that BECAUSE of the shadow of the past and the horrible things that happened to them and mistakes they made that Adelina and Aldonza would be key members of the Divine Justice League to bring down Sev! How fulfilling it would be for Aldonza and Cris to stand united against all of Cande, Sev's and Vile's lame plots, and we'd be rewarded with smoking hot love scenes of their re-pledging their love to one another. But nooooooo, we get this flippy flopping fish out of water Aldonza and a chronically anguished and confused Cris! Drives me crazy!

Diana! Thank you, darlin'! The whole patio agrees with you that PJ is the heart and soul of this story! And re Aldonza, I think many of us can understand why she's backing away from Cris this time but she NEVER remembers the very clear and present goal of Cande and Vile to separate her and Cris! Cris remembers but it seems like Aldonza is brain dead half the time the way she's so ready to believe EVERY thing they come up with without the least bit of suspicion! She NEVER gives Cris the benefit of the doubt and NEVER lets him explain! I wonder if the fresh eyes of Dom and Mel in the house, their patience and experience in dealing with their hot headed idiot granddaughter will allow them to eventually reach Aldonza. But it's ok, I'm willing to listen to others defend her. The trauma she suffered at Sev's hands is the only thing keeping me from kicking her totally to the curb.

Irma and Uriel don't deserve the grief that Mari will ultimately cost them. They wasted their efforts on Abelardo and look where that ended up. When they find out that Sev is ultimately responsible for Abelardo's death I'm sure that Uriel will lead the lynch mob.

Mari deserves a major anvil, but I haven't yet decided what it should be.

Veronica is a breath of fresh air in this story. She saw what she wanted and went after him. I'm sure she was eager to see Emanuel in any state of undress she could get him into.

Vile did look a little queasy at Sev caressing her face. Someone made an earlier comment that he gets off on the resistance and genuine disgust so that might be a motive. It could be part of Vile's anvil to have to submit to him before the rest of her Karmageddon hits when others find out about the pregnancy blackmail.

The padre has to survive this story. When Sev is finally sucked back into hell the entire community will need to heal.

Padre J has to survive. It would be the best triumph of good over evil.

Aldonza probably never watched telenovelas, which is why she believes Val's lies.

UA, good point on Irma and Uriel. We basically see them as good, caring people. Their mistake was to indulge and turn a blind eye to the behavior of their kids. We did see very early on they were rude, sarcastic, attention-seekers. Maybe we can put it down to the influence of the ruling families of SL, but frankly, the fact they didn't make either of their kids get out and make a living for themselves was a head scratcher to me. They can live at home, but for cripes sake, do something with your life. I feel bad for them that they will realize Mari has been a stinking liar too, but there are repercussions for being too soft with kids too I guess. Different type of "sin" from the past?

I never thought I would be more interested in finding out what happens to Tomas than Cris and Allie at this point. The confession scene was pure gold last night. And the slap up the head perfection. What a better wing to find yourself taken under then PJ's.

Daisynjay

Ah Lila, of the giddy up prose I could read non stop on a 13 hour flight to Tokyo. Thank you!

"Not one to let a bald face lie cut the conviction with which she slings it"

"PJ might as well be talking to one of the pews"

"and the hump on the graffiti-covered wall"

Hope I'm not right but perhaps Veronica will use their budding relationship to beat Emanuel in a heads up competition.

Lila, I agree, if Renato would take a close inventory he'd know Aldonza is crazy and if she somehow stays with Cris he's dodged a bullet.

Oh Adelina, don't stop with suffering in silence, self-flagellate in public.

Don't want Joaquin to take Flavia back but set up a visit for Ray and his mother, now. There is no good reason not to.

Kinda disappointing Silvia was a little butthurt hearing the divorce was still on. Come on girl, suck it up, winning by default is hollow.

If PJ were a vegetable I'd eat him every day

Good point, Doris.

Also good point about Adelina having raised Aldonza. Adelina's martyr complex has rubbed off on her and I can see how Aldonza could be so schizo with men in relationships. With two bad examples like Roberta and Adelina, how could she ever have a normal relationship with a man, even if Sev hadn't raped her?

It's a pity Lorena Bobbitt is in Virginia. Santa Lucia needs her.

Gee, Lila, wonderful work. Glad you're back! Loved your views on Aldonza, PJ et al.

Is there something in the water at Aldonza's place that affects the reasoning skills of unmarried females? We've got Aldonza, Lola and Adelina all going off on a tangent re: their "true loves."

PJ is still my hero too. I thought in the gun scene with Sev, he wasn't really offering himself up for martyrdom, but actually hit on the one theme that would decisively sway Sev away from shooting him: "You'll be in jail for life, which will make it possible for Aldonza and Cris to be together and be happy." OOH! Don't talk to Sev about people being happy!

I dislike Val enough that I will gladly accept whatever disgusting price Sev demands of her.

Boozy Pru the accidental catalyst for so much good happening; Tomas conversion, Val's outing among other things.

Tomas confession was just over the top funny-sincere, and PJ decking him was so human and seemed like the final expiating act in a life that is finally going to be worth something.

Wow, that Veronica is HOT and she and Eman really seam to have a genuine connection. Hope this isn't a curve ball. Eman deserves some admiration and respect from some female.

Thanks again, Lila. I always enjoy your views on things.

David

Thank you Lila, what a frustrating episode for me. Now I have to go buy a wig because I was pulling all my hair out with this.

It will be interesting to see what Sev does with this information. I thought at first he would tell Cande, but as someone mentioned, she may not go along if the baby isn't Cris's, but then again she may because she doesn't want Cris and Aldonza to know about this.

My premarital advice for Pato, Cris, and Joaquin:
Run, don't walk, as fast as you can, away from these women. You have seen example after example of how they will react and deal with life's difficulties as they arise, and they will arise. Every marriage has misunderstandings and miscommunications, partners often think differently about many things and have to come to some kind of compromise in order to move along. If your partner has serious difficulty with this, you will never be happy.
Cris, Aldonza can not face a crisis without calling everything off. She will not let you talk, she will not listen to reason if it differs from her initial reaction. What has happened every time roadblocks were put in place to keep you two apart? She calls off the romance or files for divorce. Think about that after you've had a child or two. Is she worth it?
Pato, what does Lola do every time she interprets your innocent interactions with the opposite sex? She cries, pouts, and runs away in a huff, and then you have to beg her to understand that it was all innocent and she doesn't need to be jealous. Ugh! One word; Flavia.
Joaquin, Adelina tells you to go back to your wife every time Ray says he misses his mommy or she feels a guilt trip over the fact that she is involved in the separation of you and Flavia. Even though you can never be happy with Flavia or have any intention of being married to her any more, Adelina will continue to play the 'go back to your wife' card whenever she feels guilty, which is all the time.

Hey, Tofie, thanks, girl! Wow! 13 hour flight? I'm all flattered! :D

Uh oh. Sobering thought: Hope I'm not right but perhaps Veronica will use their budding relationship to beat Emanuel in a heads up competition. Hadn't thought of that! :/

if Renato would take a close inventory he'd know Aldonza is crazy and if she somehow stays with Cris he's dodged a bullet. Girl! Renato, Cris and Eman could form a 60s Miraclesque group and ALL sing Mirage! Run, Renato, run!!

Whoa! You go girl! If PJ were a vegetable I'd eat him every day Great source of Vitamin C for courage and cojones!

Oh, and I wanted to complement SBC aka Sara for introducing the word "tzaddik" into the conversation. What a beautiful word and concept.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone. And thanks to all those who sacrificed so much to make us the U.S. of A.

David

Lila- Welcome back! And thank you for jumping right back in and giving us a stellar recap.

Cathyx- ITA about how Lola, Adelina and Aldonza react to bumps (and mountains) in the road of their relationships. I don't think it's too late for Al and Lola to learn from their mistakes though. I'm not as sure that Adelina can get over her decades of guilt and repression.

I just loved everything about the Padre J- Tomas scenes. Absolutely loved the punch, and immediate offer of food and drink afterwards.

It should be noted that the exhumation of Ray's tomb is going ahead because they just went straight to the civil registry to get the death certificate and didn't need the copy Aldonza/Adelina had at home. There had been grumblings on the Patio about this over the last week after Adelina burned the copy at the house. Love that Al is keeping it a secret from Adelina, which means Adelina is going to have some major explaining to do soon. Can't wait!

I'm also intrigued to see what Sever does with the new knowledge that Val's baby is not Cris'. The writers have been building this creepy sexual vibe between them the last few weeks, and I only think they are going to take it further. Blech!

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday! We're hoping the rain and clouds clear out by this evening in time for bbqs and fireworks.

Oh, I think they go there with Val and Severiano, just don't know what ends up happening to Val and Uriel and Irma's grandchild.

It was silly of Adelina to believe burning the death certificates would stop anything. I just think she's stupid, outta sight and it doesn't exist. She knows nothing about having an honest open relationship with anyone much less a romantic one.

While it is cute, the confession and aftermath, Tomas still got a long way to go before I remove the scumbag label on his forehead. Gotta do something good, not just stop doing bad and trying to hide from the consequences. Only short term punishment he's ever gotten was being thrown out of the house. Now that is rescinded after he threatened to kill himself. He is clueless the consequences of his actions and how they not only could impact him (they haven't) but what it does to others (perhaps the punch by PJ will give him a clue). Not once has he given a thought to Humberto. Tomas owes him an apology at least.

Hey, David! Thank you! How wonderful to find your comment as I come in from a break in my yard. I've not been gardening, more like "weedening", cause that's what I've got a lot of and they are SO healthy with all the rain we've been getting.

Wow, taking whatever Sev has to dish out would be a powerful anvil for Val! Can't wait to see what it is. She is playing a dirty game but she's playing with the big boys now. Sev no like people to speak to him with fork-ed tongue! ITA that Eman deserves some admiration and respect from some female. Maybe she'll be such a good horsewoman that it will bring out the best in Eman and he'll still take home top prize! PLEEZE let her and Uncle Toño be on the up and up!

Cathyx, girl, thank you and ditto to your WHOLE POST! We sure are on the same wave length! Problems WILL come up in life! Is THIS who these guys want as a life partner? I wouldn't even want these chicks on my kickball team! Your advice to the men is spot on. I don't know who wrote this, but women are taking a big hit in this thing. Maybe turnaround is fair play because I've seen plenty novelas where the men are just walking gonads!

Thanks, David and Happy Fourth of July to you and yours and to all of y'all!

Hey, Vivi! Thanks, girl and thanks for mentioning that Renato got the death certificate from the civil registry. Adelina's little pyromaniacal fit was put out without so much as a sizzle! Yay! And yep. This "creepy sexual vibe" they've been building up is NOT going to go wasted. Everybody better have their Pepto and ginger ale handy!

Tofie, you are right about Tomas, Not once has he given a thought to Humberto. Tomas owes him an apology at least. Tomas has helped Pru cuckold him in the worse way. I could see Hum getting murderously enraged! AND, I still want Pru publicly outed! Hum doesn't have to kill her but I want her kicked off the gravy train!

Lila, true, women are portrayed in a very poor light with this one.

I see Sev keeping Val as his sex slave for his silence, he may go along with Cris in not marrying her and just taking care of the baby financially. That's not too high a price to pay for a young attractive mistress.

Tofie- I don't think Tomas' journey has ended. I think it's just getting started. This episode he told Padre J that although his parents said he can move back in, he refused. He wants to continue living with Padre and working in the Church to earn his way.

Agree Vivi about Tomas, he as well as everyone else in that town should be grateful for PJ, determined to coax the good out of even the least worthy.

Not so sure Sev would keep Val around long and certainly not take care of her kid. He wants a plaything, not a tether. He may promise, just as he did Roberta, to make her do whatever vile thing he wants and discard.

That's his M.O., but since she is also a relative I don't think he'd get away with it so easily. It's far more likely that Simoneta's corpse will turn up before then.

Phew! Back from weedening! Also planted some flowers and have def earned some patio time! Yaay! Let's see what I've missed!

Cathyx@1:13. Yah, and as for males, Padre is just divine on this show and Sev the opposite. If he does what we think he will with Val, he will be THE low-downest. . wait, lowest-down? anyway he will be the dirtiest dawg I have EVA seen in a novela: raping the love of his son's life and taking as a mistress the woman he claims to all the world is carrying his son's baby, whom his son did "know" in earlier times. If their are dirtier male antagonists out there, I don't want to know about it! YUCK!

Hey, Nina! Sorry, kid! Happy 4th to you. Please come back and hang out with us!

It was either the spam or the bad storm we just had here on the first coast in florida. Maybe I'll get through later.

Urban, you are right. It won't be so easy to dispose of Vale. I wonder what will be the really BIG thing Padre wants to prove Sev is responsible for that will unmask him before the town. Poor Simoneta's horrifying, water-logged remains being discovered in a very public way or will Padre learn (if it happens) of a Sev/Vile tryst? Or, will Adriano have an episode of "terminal lucidity"* and tell all about the Abelardo hit?

*Terminal lucidity: A review and a case collection
http://deanradin.com/evidence/Nahm2011.pdf

Dean Radin is more of "a believer". Here is another citation from a self-proclaimed skeptic. I find this topic FASCINATING!

One Last Goodbye: The Strange Case of Terminal Lucidity
http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/bering-in-mind/one-last-goodbye-the-strange-case-of-terminal-lucidity/

Padre J might be thinking of Sev's vile abuse of Emanuel but probably also that there is more he doesn't know about yet.

However, considering how the town has been previously convinced through the efforts of Vile, Pru, and Candela that Aldonza is no better than Roberta was, I'm not sure how they will react when Sev is exposed as her rapist. For Aldonza to be vindicated his other crimes will have to be exposed first. That means the murders of Padre Sixto and Simoneta, the rape of the prostitute in the hotel room, several counts of arson, the attempted murder of Padre Jeronimo, and everything else he will now do out of desperation.

We can be certain of one thing: When Emanuel's parentage is revealed, Cristobal will disown both his parents.

Aldonza will be furious that she was robbed of her brother and Humberto will take a lot of crap from Pru and Vile, unless she is unmasked before this happens. I am also wondering whether Humberto will have to do prison time for being Sev's accessory after the fact in the murder of Padre Sixto.

HellaShelle, right on! Aldonza isn't ready to be married to anybody.

PBN, convenient, isn't it, how Aldonza forgot all about seeing Val with Lardo when she even confronted Val about that in the hospital.

Urban Anthropologist, if I remember correctly, only Emmanuel and Cris had the conversation about how Valeria said she would take Cris home and he wouldn't have asked to go to Valeria's instead. They both looked vaguely disturbed about it and then all was forgotten. I continue to be disappointed about that. Just because he's a man doesn't mean they should brush off so easily that someone took advantage of him being drunk, took him somewhere it's unlikely he would have asked to go, got him even more drunk, and he woke up with no clothes on. And every time SHE brings it up to make HIM feel guilty, I want to kick her in the shins.

Diana, you'd think by now her default setting would be to assume that anything Val, Sev, or Cande says is a lie!

tofie, I agree that Flavia and Ray need a visit. Ray doesn't deserve to be hurt by the drama the adults are going through. But maybe it would be best to wait until Flavia and Joaquin decide what their relationship is going to look like so they can answer Ray's questions.

Vivi, thanks for the reminder--the exhumation is going to go ahead without Adelina's knowledge. This is not going to be pretty for Adelina.

I don't know what Sev's going to do to Val, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to be any fun for her. Maybe, before he knew this, they could have been allies, but now I'm pretty sure that Sev's going to be calling the shots.

Urban, thanks for that recap of Sev's heinous crimes! Yikes! Did Sev "confess" to killing Padre Sixto? Can't remember. Good point about Hum being an accessory to murder! I also agree, the townspeople will have to know not only how low Sev is but I think Val and Pru, two principal carriers of tales, need to be exposed as major hypocrites and Cande's being the source of the plan to lie that Roberta's baby had died and thus is an accomplice to his childhood abuse and disenfranchisement. All three of these are major gossip mongers and slanderers of Aldonza and Adelina.

Urban, do you think Cris finding about Eman's origin will FINALLY get Cris to leave that hell hole?

Lila, it doesn't seem like ANYTHING will get Cris to leave Las Animas. Even the loss of Dominga's cooking hasn't motivated him!

Lila - sev confessed to something, in the confessional, but darned if I can remember what it was. One of these days I will start taking notes. Or create an outline. Or a flow chart. Or something.

doris, I think he did mention Padre Sixto, but I don't remember how explicit he was about that, or if it was more of an "ask Padre Sixto what happens to nosy priests" sort of thing.

Greeting from sunny, hot Arizona. A heartfelt thank you recappers for keeping me up to date. Last evening was the only time I caught La Sombra all week. Only one obersvation to day. several of the ladies on the show have only two modes. Aldonza, mad and glad, Lola crazy and crazier, Cande, bitch and BITCH, Val desperate and caniving, Mari, yuk only, Dominga love and supportive. My good old Pru screwed, her mode is stuck. Carry on

HAPPY 4th to all the peeps.

Hi Emeraldrose! Stay hydrated :D

He did mention Padre Sixto.

Actually I think that by the time Cristobal finds out about this Sev's downfall will happen fairly quickly. Once it does, Las Animas will belong to Cristobal because if Candela isn't dead herself I'm sure she will be in a manicomio.

Slightly OT, but is it possible to set up the discussion so that the posts get numbered? It would be easier to remember where one stopped reading rather than having to scroll past 150 comments first.

Urban Anthropologist, I do think Sev's downfall would have to be pretty quick. The longer it takes, the more time he has to recover from each setback and the more time he has to keep wreaking havoc!

Re: numbering--that's not a setting that's available on the blog.

Which means that this discovery will come late in the game. However, I do hope that nothing happens to Emanuel. Roberta died without ever knowing he was her son and it would be criminal for him to die before Cristobal and Aldonza find out he is half-brother to each of them.

Well, if he keeps from falling off any more horses, he'll probably be ok :D and as long as Sev stays too busy to look for him.

Ha! Diva, you're right. It's hard enough to get him to leave his room, let alone the house. And he still seems to be oblivious to them listening in to his every conversation, he rarely closes and NEVER locks his door. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a camcorder with mic in the bathroom!

Doris, thanks. I know he unloaded a lot on Padre, including how Ray was murdered but couldn't remember about Padre Sixto! Lemme keep going down comments!

Okay, I see, Diva. You know. Besides notes, I wish I'd kept just a table of contents outline with even just a couple of sentences about the major plot point.

Lila, at least we have each other for reminders. When the characters forget important information it's just gone forever!

I have been meaning to ask. I know nothing about Mexican horsemanship. Is Eman participating in Mexican style Paso Fino competitions? These are not Paso Fino horses, but the exercises are very similar. Can some one tell me if this is the same thing?

Emeraldrose! Thanks, girl! Sunny, hot Arizona indeed. I was recently in Seattle with highs in the mid to high 80s and only a few hours of cloud cover and NO RAIN. Never thought it would be Seattle where I'd get absolutely toasted!

Love your settings for the ladies on the show! You're right up to date! Happy 4th!

Hey Urban! Thanks for intro on Padre Sixto and like your idea about numbering comments. Too bad it's not possible.

I do hope Sev is too busy with his other acts of eevil that Eman escapes his notice and revenge!

You would think that since Val showed up at the bus station when Cris was there to pick up Aldonza that he would get a clue that she listened in on his convo about picking her up. Didn't he wonder why Val showed up there and how did she know what his plan was? Come on Cris, stop being so dumb and think about it.

Hey guys, the storms over, here come the fireworks. partially.
Lila- thanks for a halarious and snarkingly funny recap.
Aldonza, what can I say about our ally. Shes annoying, shes batting poor cris back and forth like a pingpong ball. The girl can really piss a person off. Cris probably feels like hes the only one fighting for their survival. Thats the way it looks to me. Anyhoo once all the lies are over, the bad parents are gone somewhere hot, not sunny hot florida, they get back together they'll be solid. Of course then the show will be over. In the mean time, lola, mari, vileval and her strange mother←Im being nice here, cande, sev. I don't like these people but the show wouldn't work without them.
Mari, I could slap mari 8 ways from sunday. I don't like her nasty smugness.
Lola, just go away.
Given a chance sev would probably understandingly and sweetly talk himself into viles underyonders. But she seems a bit creeped out by him, thats in her favor, even though the cats out of the bag about the baby NOT being cris' that wont matter. He hates aldonza more than he dislikes the fact that the little one isn't his grandbaby. He'll use that poor baby.
UnLucky kid, he or she is gonna have enough to deal with. Vile and lardo as parents, and pru as a grandma, poor baby. But there's hope. Irma and urial, and theres hum, we'll see how that goes.
They'll have to do one of those time lapse things for nine months to baby's birth. A whole lot of crap will go down before then.
LOVE LOVE, LOVE PADRE J. Love how he deals with the crap in that town, and not lose his faith. You go PADRE J. that important thing that he is going to have to get to bring down sev off of that self imposed pedestal he's perched himself up on, that bomb is coming. And I don't think the Padre is going to lose his life in the process. I hope not, he's such a courageously sweet man.

Emeraldrose - that black horse we saw last night is not a Paso Fino. It looks like the same breed Eduardo Yeñez had, in FELS . That horse was named Capricio, IIRC, and the Patio agreed it was the sanest character in the show.

But I cannot remember the name of the breed. . .

Eman's Solitario might be Paso Fino.

Okay, just now googled the horses. Capricio in FELS was a Fresian.

Solitario might be Andalusian or Azteca.

Well, maybe not Fresian....after looking at google images, the black horse last night did not look that stocky.

Cris has been dumb during this whole show, do you honestly think he's gonna change now? That remains to be seen. He'll have to go over everything thats happened, think back, remember conversations,
Peoples actions, stuff like that. If the writers will let him. then he'll be able to see who's been pulling strings this way and that way. It would help if aldonza forgot in on that too.

Happy Fourth, hope everyone is having a safe weekend!
Enjoying all the comments, feel like I haven't seen a full ep without interruption in several weeks but the Patio is my little safety net!

BTW, someone may already have commented on this, but sometime last week, when Humberto actually admitted to Padre J what happened the night Rob's other baby was born, I noted the curious fact that they were not talking in church. i.e., not sealed under the confessional. If I understand correctly, Padre J could reveal what Hum told him?

J in O
sweltering, yet soldiering on with iced tea.

Diva, loving Arizona and the lightening storms , we have a front seat every night, as the kids condo looks over desert with no obstructions, Lots of shopping, eating out and gallons of water!

Lila, I heard from home that yesterday was 95, in Olympia where I actually live. Hope your stay in Seattle was pleasant, and you will return soon.

Doris thanks for checking on the horses. I don't really know too much about different breeds, just big, little, fine boned etc.

Again peeps, happy 4th!!!

Presence in a confessional booth or a church is not required. All that needs to happen is for someone to request to make confession.

However, Padre J knows he's fighting the devil and will take all the necessary precautions.

Cathyx, I just hope this clueless galan thing is a passing phase and the pendulum is going to swing back the other way. Are these things being written by someone who thinks that to be in love a guy has to be a total doofus? Cris is fitting the bill!

Hey, Nina! Good to see you back, girl! Thanks! Whoa! You smartly stated the concensus: Given a chance sev would probably understandingly and sweetly talk himself into viles underyonders. "Underyonders" Good one! And, I DO wonder how they'll handle this poor baby. WILL they do a time lapse? We shall see but I hope the ruse is discovered before then! ITA with you and the whole patio on Padre J: He righteously Rocks!"

J in O, you're right about no confessional seal on Hum's reveal so PJ can use it in his fight for justice. And, even if a Priest doesn't verbally reveal something told to him in confession, there's nothing to stop him from acting on his knowledge, right? This is what PJ has been doing, isn't it?

Emeraldrose, Washington state is just breathtakingly gorgeous! Mt. Ranier was mesmerizing and I want to get closer. Snoqualmie Falls was amazing and I definitely plan to return! Thanks!

Muchas gracias, Lila! I missed the first 15ish minutes but I knew you would have it covered in style.

I loved "iron halo."

Sara! You're welcome but I hope you're going to play some more with us this weekend!?

Yup. I'll be around. :-)

David-I just saw your thanks for "tzaddik". You're welcome :-)

Something else occurred to me about the use of color in novelas. When you watch the next episode note that the first image of Adelina has her wearing blue and white -- the colors we usually see on the Virgen -- when Roberta enters the house with blood on her clothes.

Do you think Adelina will crack soon? Martyrdom has to be really difficult in the long term.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July. I still feel full from yesterday!

Urban- It does seem to me that Adelina is about to crack. She seemed to be getting ready to start telling Al the truth, but it seems like Al's surprise opening of the tomb will force her hand.

Oh, yes; it definitely will. I hope that the padre is there when that happens. He's good at guilt-tripping people and Adelina is long overdue.

I am becoming more and more of the opinion that Joaquin would be dodging a bullet by her backing off. Her rejection of Emanuel says she has very serious issues about men. The fact that she would have welcomed Lola as Aldonza's sister indicates that she is comfortable with a "just us girls" situation while Emanuel would be an "intruder."

Hi guys! Hope you all had a safe and happy holiday!

It's a shame that just when Adelina is FINALLY working up the gumption to tell Aldonza the truth, it's going to slap her across the face (as might Aldi) because the exhumation is going ahead. Someone above said she was stupid for thinking that burning the papers would stop the exhumation. I'm not sure she thought that, just that she was hoping Aldonza would get frustrated or busy and stop pursuing it, or that the delay would buy her more time.

I think Sev will definitely ally himself with Pru and Val, but I can't figure out what he'll do with the kid. I can't see him claiming the child as his grandson. I would LOVE it if he and Val were caught in bed together. It would force a DNA test and hopefully a slip about how, just like Rob, she was already pregnant when she started sleeping with her. That way Cris would know that they didn't fix the DNA results "just in case"; they KNEW Al wasn't his sister and schemed from jump to make him think she was.

So far, there are two babies that need to go to better homes- Val's bun and Angelina's bun. There are two (sets of parents looking for do-overs- Irma/Uriel and Humberto. I wouldn't mind seeing them ride off into the sunset with those babies, though Hum's done enough bad things that he may be past the point of no return.

BTW: Angelina's situation seems like the stuff TNs are made of. Televisa should've spun her story off to happen right after Sombra.

PJ does a good job of hiding his disgust with Adelina, he knows Emanuel is her nephew, that she lied to Aldonza about the sister buried with Ray, and likely she knows something about the loss of Severiano's arm, the murder of PJ's brother, the desecration of his body and the cover up.

The only reason Adelina has thought to mention anything to Joaquin is the knowledge the secret will come out, otherwise she'd say nothing. She's like Pru, only happy when she's miserable.

While I understand wanting to get their stories straight, little Ray is suffering everyday. Flavia is ready but Joaquin is the hold up.

Lila, heres a thought: what if all that imfo...eh confessions that these people are spilling to the padre when they're not in the confessional, could be building up to that important bomb that padre need to blow sev out of the water, off the map? Im not sure it would be a betrayal, cause they are stuck under sev's thumb. They might even cheer him on. They are as sick of the" dark prince" as he is. I don't know how the church laws work, Im not catholic, this guy (sev) needs to be put out of everybody's misery. Just like padre figured out how to expose the DNA deception, he will find a way to annihilate SEVERIANO MENDOZA!!!!!! O Happy Day:-D

I don't think they've done a very good job of explaining why Adelina's was so much warmer towards the idea of Lola being the missing baby than Emanuel. We're speculating that she's not comfortable with men, but they haven't actually made that a clear thing with her character, which just makes her actions confusing.

The thing that keeps her straddling the line for me is that she's not malacious. I'm annoyed and fed up with her, but she's not of Cande or Pru category for me.

Emeraldrose, I'm glad you're getting to see the light shows while you're here :D They can be pretty amazing.

Something that didn't seem to come up in Tomas' confession...he talked about all the stuff he & Lardo did, but didn't say who had asked them to do some of that stuff. I can't remember if he ever knew or if he was just going along with Lardo. Lardo also vaguely mentioned the apartment burning to him when he was hiding out at Tomas' and I think maybe? possibly? Tomas knew that Lardo had done something on Sev's orders. I'm thinking maybe Padre J isn't the only one he needed to be confessing to.

I don't think Adelina's preference for Lola vs. Em is about anything more than her having always thought that "the baby" was a girl. I don't remember her being all that enthusiastic about telling the truth back when she suspected it was Lola. Having "the baby" turn out to be a boy just makes her look like even more of a chump and I don't think she's looking forward to that added aspect of the truth coming out--"OK, so you're telling me that not only was the baby not dead, but also a boy? Did you even SEE the baby?"

but what is burning a death certificate after eavesdropping or running Emanuel down, in the way she did, to Joaquin when he wanted to reconsider what Mari had said, if not malicious. Who knows how far she would go to protect her truth? This is the first time there has been any real threat.

I think Adelina is pretty close to Cande.

Cande doesn't want one of Severiano & Roberta's children to be known and neither does Adelina.

Cande tampers with DNA and Adelina destroys documentation.

Cande goes to play nice with PJ to convince him to see things her way and gets angry when he refuses and Adelina tried to get PJ to drop the investigation, sweetly asking and when he refused got all butthurt.

Cande says she does these things for her son to protect him, Adelina says Aldonza is too fragile to know and will do what is necessary to spare her.

Both have hovered outside doorways or around corners and lied or perpetuated sophisticated ruses.

I give Adelina credit though, the girl can keep a secret.

Boy, trying to remember some of their conversations, particularly when Abelardo was hiding out at Tomas's parents. He knew the police were after him for burning the apartment and also knew Abelardo had been in Mexico doing work for Severiano. Didn't Abelardo give Tomas some of the money after they broke into Humberto's office? I remember Severiano was angry someone else had been involved.

I think Lardo did give Tomas some cash. I mean, sure, they were friends, but it's always nice to pay friends when they're helping you commit crimes.

Popping in quickly. Nina: Just like padre figured out how to expose the DNA deception, he will find a way to annihilate SEVERIANO MENDOZA!!!!!! O Happy Day:-D

Amen, Nina! I'm not the first to say this but I'm reframing this story with Sev and PJ at the center with Cris and Donnie a little incidental infatuation around which coalesced the control-freakidness of Cande and Adelina. Tofie LOVE your comparison above of Cande and Adelina and I think you nailed it. Cande is darker because of "master-minding" the dead baby ruse and acting more out of self-centered megalomania while Adelina acts out of fear, but those parallels are fair and accurate.

Anyway, as others have said, this is NOT a love story, unless it be love of power and self but rather a story of Good vs. evil. When I think about it like that, I am less upset about the undeveloped, flip-flop cardboard fish that is Aldonza and her and Cris's inability to fulfill my need for soft-core hotness and sigh-worthy passion between the main lovers.

The Galan with a quad cane locked in his bedroom by his mama only able to do number 1 and 2 in private (maybe?) Yah, no, this couple is NOT going on the HOT list but Padre Jeronimo is!

Totally agree with Lila and everyone about this NOT being a love story. Letting go of that expectation has really helped me enjoy the show more.

But I'll still grouse about it once in a while. ;-)

I'm pretty sure Cris gets a knock on the door every time Mami thinks he's been in the bathroom too long. He might even be microchipped, like a pet...probably ought to go by a vet's office and ask them to scan him, just to make sure.

OK, I'll give looking at this as an epic battle between Sev and Padre J a try and see if it helps me brush off my annoyance with all the non-love stories.

"...helps me brush off my annoyance with all the non-love stories."

I understand your annoyance since TNs are mainly billed as love stories. If this were like network TV or a K-drama, then I would expect a variety. But I go into TNs always with the expectation of romance.

ITA lila, if I were so inclind, I could easily fall in love with this particular padre. He has beautiful character, he has integrity. He is what we call "OUT OF THE BOX". That why sev can't scare him, or make him back down. Thats my padre baby. And he manages to hold on to his faith. HOT DOG!!!!!! :-D

A funny aside, when Emanuel was talking to Veronica, my ccs were calling him Abelardo.

Good and evil are rather good vs evil sounds good, yeah I'll go with that. The love theme seems to have died with Simonetta. Gluck Gluck Gluck Gluck down to the bottom of the river. When the love and romance of this TN starts again her body will probably float back up to the top.

I abandoned romance first because of Lola and her treatment of Emanuel with hopes the Cris and Aldonza thing would hold up but let it go after the 549th pouty faced breakup. A fleeting flirtation with PJ and Cande out of desperation and haven't looked back. Never has it sunk to TSTSNBN levels but with my focus on what PJ is gonna do nightly, knowing he'd be around awhile and not a throw away after he survived Severiano's attempt on his life, the showdown of "Will" is really good. Throw in Silvia (supergirl) and Emanuel (OMG his back), how well Thelma rocks Val (she so nasty) and looking forward to Humberto's enlightenment, keeps tofie satisfied.

"...how well Thelma rocks Val (she so nasty)..."

I do hate Val, but kudos to Thelma for such a great performance. I honestly don't think I can ever see her as a protagonista.

In the end I think Padre Jeronimo will be the ultimate hero of this tale. One wonders what the writers' intentions really were.

Tofie, your comparison is right on the money. Adelina is acting out of fear, but I think that both of us are right about the sources of her fear.

The only backstory information we have about her is that she had never been kissed before the first kiss with Joaquin. Nothing in her manner or tone of voice said that was a lie. She has to be incredibly naive about the male of the species. She and Roberta had no brothers or they would have at least been mentioned.

She was probably the Tita of her family and she did what was expected of someone in that position: Took care of the parents until their deaths and went on to care for her niece. She gave up her work to care for her parents, moved in with Roberta after their deaths, and has never had a life of her own. No dates, no boyfriends, nada.

We know nothing about her parents. Were they authoritarian? Overprotective? Demanding? Toxic? Unloving? All these are possibilities; she hasn't said a word about any of this. It is the only explanation I can see for how she and Roberta turned out the way they did. Roberta looked for freedom, love, and acceptance in all the wrong ways and places while Adelina ran away from her own needs to gain acceptance by satisfying others' needs. Neither of them appeared to understand the other very well.

While Adelina parented Aldonza fairly well she failed just as effectively as Roberta did to provide any example of a healthy romantic relationship for Aldonza to learn from. She knows less about men than Aldonza knows. She looks at Emanuel as the player he's been billed as and now with the possibility that he is the son of Severiano she finds him not only frightening but repulsive.

Which makes me wonder why she hasn't seen Cristobal that way, knowing that not only is he the son of Severiano but of Candela.

Kat, I laughed at the idea of Cris being microchipped. Candela would definitely have done that if it had been available when he was born.

Sara, this is true...they bill it as a love story, all the way down to the description in the TV listings. False advertising! Even just calling it a story about two feuding families would have been more accurate.

Urban Anthropologist, If Val's the one who bought Cris' phone and did all the setup on it out of the kindness of her twisted little heart, I wouldn't put it past her to have installed whatever she needed to be able to track his phone, if not gain access to its microphone and camera. And if she didn't, it would be for lack of the technological savvy and not a respect for his privacy.

O LPHello, all, and thanks Lila for another of your snappy recaps. I am also just back from vacation...a road trip to Toronto. I am still not unpacked, but I have washed and hung out a lot of laundry today since the weatherman is predicting rain almost every day this week. Today is sunny, clear, and pleasant . Hub has gone off to play golf, and I have earnedj some iced tea on my actual patio as I hang out on Caray's virtual patio.

I have to say that watching this tn makes me thank my lucky stars that these folks are not in my real world. Not to say that I am surrounded by real-life Padre Jeronimos, but I do not know any Sevs, Candies, Prus, or Vals.

Well, knowing how ruthless and pragmatic Severed is, one has to assume that he is going to make both Val and Pru's lives a living hell to keep that secret he just overheard. And...hey...Val is already pregnant , so he does not have to worry about making her pregnant like poor , damp Sim\Viv. Winning. These gals have no idea that the devil has them in his creepy clutches now. Blleecchh.

If Tomas isb headed toward the priesthood, perhaps some of these women should " get he to a nunnery." Al and Ade might be happier in the convent. Neither seem to be able to have a good relationship with men...except our saintly, strong, super Padre J.

Does anyone know how many episodes remain ? Like almost everyone else has stated, these people just frustrate me. I guess Al has not proven that old adage " What does not kill you makes you strong."

Totally true. She destroyed his previous phone to cut him off from Aldonza; she probably now figures that him being in his parents' home does that well enough.

UA I agree with almost everything, taking into consideration, cause and effect, and fear and how differently people can respond but Adelina has become a coward and that cowardice has made her do things that will destroy the same thing she believes she protects. No different than Flavia's irrational insecurity of losing her relationship with Joaquin. Fear & insecurity drove her to take up with Adriano and destroy her family.

There were times Adelina attempted to dissuade Aldonza but it was futile, she loved Cris.

I wonder also whether there wasn't a hint of envy in that. Aldonza had the potential to have what Adelina never did. Maybe Adelina will end up in a convent after all.

Adelina is a pretty woman, I noticed that when I first saw her. I'd love to see another hair style. And those shoes. Someone mentioned those shoes a month or so back. Loose the shoes. maybe when the truth comes out she'll make a change, wardrobe. her hairstyle, we'll see.

Welcome home to the Patio, Susanlynn and thank you! Oh, this is surely part of Pru and Val's anvil to have been caught plotting to make a fool of him! Uuuh, he does NOT like that! I'm not sure how much he cares that Crs is made of fool of. Cris does seem to be the only thing he loves but one has to question that for sure given his behavior toward Cris's beloved. Sev is his own special kind of sick and one must remember that when trying to puzzle out his motivations or guess his next move. I can't wait to see what his price is going to be to keep up this farce!

Ok. I've never had an avatar before. This is me as Dashi of The Octonauts if it came in clearly. I am an unabashed lover of animation, discerning in my tastes but an all out fan of cute and educational: The Octonauts are cute and teach all about the diversity and beauty of the marine ecosystem: Explore! Protect! Rescue! Dashi looks like me after my deep Seattle tan and I so enjoyed the beauty of the Puget Sound and lakes. I hope the avatar showed up! See y'all later!

susanlynn, I'm with you--I'm glad the "drama" in my life is NOT this kind of drama! I just get to watch it from the comfort of my couch.

Lila, that's a cute avatar!

I love it, Lila! It's precious!

Thanks, Diva and Sweet Baby Chihuahuas! I may change from time to time but Dashi is so cute, I couldn't resist! :D

Lila, we are being spammed again.

Thanks, Urban! :D

On Adelina vs. Cande: I guess when it comes down to it, I would have an easier time understanding if my aunt didn't tell me that my mother killed my father and the man who raped me also stole my baby sibling, who may or may not be the guy I already think of kind of as a sibling versus if my mom told me my husband was my brother because his mom had an affair with my dad.

From Eman's perspective, though, I would be very, very pissed. And maybe for him, choosing the ignorance of not checking to see if I was her nephew or treating me like I was in the doubt would be equivalent to knowing I was an illegimate stepchild and ordering my father to kidnap and abandon me then treating me like crap under her feet. I think if it were me, it might hurt just as much, but I wouldn't be as angry about it.

I could see Adelina being the least-hated from Em's POV. Certainly Cande and Sev make her look better in comparison. Now who would be on the top of the list for him, I wonder...Cande or Sev? And where would he rank them in comparison to Humberto, Pru, Val?

I wonder what Sev's way of "dealing with it" would have been if Cande hadn't intervened. Would he have tried to get rid of Roberta and Em? Tried to deny Em was his, but not done anything? Tried to pay Roberta off to keep quiet?

I imagine he'd hate his father the most. After all, he is flesh and blood. If Sev's dealings with S/V were any indication, he might have tried to set her up in San Miguel with a house and money, argued that she could "start over" with a clean reputation and wouldn't that be worth selling El Santuario for start-over money?, and held that up until Rob got tired of being the "other woman". Then he probably would've killed her and sent Eman away or, if Eman escaped, we'd have a whole other story about him seeking revenge or seeking the truth or something depending on who was around/saw/suspected him of murder. The sticking point then would be where Adelina and Aldonza played into that version...

I feel like Em is going to have some anger toward Hum at least. He knew all along who Em's parents were. He didn't even bother to try and protect him against the Shrew Crew.

If I were E , I think the border of my hatred in descending order would be 1) Sev 2) Hum 3) ADe 4) PRU ) Vile

E deserves a happy ending.

Border???? ...order

I agree.

Poor Emanuel should probably vent at Humberto first because he is the one person in all this who could have made a difference. Once his temper cools he might realize that if Sev was actually willing to kill a valuable horse to spite him Humberto had excellent reason to be afraid he would do something to him.

This does not excuse what Humberto allowed his wife and spawn to do. That is what is unforgivable with him.

Candela is the mastermind, but it would be easy to believe that Sev was. However, Candela should never be off the hook simply because she isn't guilty of murder.
