Oh this is awesome, Kat! Thanks!

I second the thank you! And I'm sure that everyone is aware that the two-hour grand finale of Tierra de reyes is tonight and Bajo el mismo cielo starts tomorrow, both on Telemundo.

I'm really looking forward to both of those, SpanProf! (And your comments on Tierra have been very helpful. I came back for the last week.)

Thanks, Sara and SpanProf!

I'm not super up-to-date on all the latest. I'm mostly watching Sombra and La Vecina.

Sombra is getting ready to end, we *think* in August with Muchachita Italiana Viene A Casarse replacing it. I'm still a little reluctant to trust Uni on the dates, but if all goes as they're planning, we're looking at about a month left.

I'd seen some of the previews for Bajo el Mismo Cielo, but that would probably be more of a marathon-watch-on-the-weekends show for me so I don't run into recording conflicts on the weekend. Of course, that's assuming that it shows up on OnDemand.

Just a hint about Bajo el mismo Cielo- Telemundo r-eairs it at 11CST (So I assume that's midnight EST.)

It's pretty convenient because I know there will be DVR conflicts when the fall TV starts. I love that Telemundo re-airs two of their novelas later in the evening.

Yep, and that 11pm repeat is really handy when I have to teach a night class, or supervise an evening meeting of a student group! Also, no need to worry about conflicts with any primetime shows on the anglo networks, in case you want to watch one.

Thanks, Kat.

But does Telemundo continue that re-airing at midnight after the first week?

BTW, what is that series a remake of?

Yes. All of Tierra was repaired as was Señora Acero.

It is a new TN based on the movie "A Better Life."

The re-airing is standard procedure on Telemundo. Tierra is a remake of Pasión de gavilanes; I don't know what if anything Bajo el mismo cielo is a remake of, though I suppose it might be of something.

Right now, it's pretty quiet, but once the "summer" is over, it gets harder to catch everything on the first airing, so having a later showing does help a lot. I know I appreciate it when some of the cable networks will do that so I don't absolutely have to catch it during primetime.

I thought Bajo el Mismo Cielo sounded pretty new/modern.

I checked. Bajo is loosely based on an English-language theatrical film about Mexican immigrants.

The one Sara mentioned? "A Better Life"? IMdB says it aired in 2011. That's a pretty quick turnaround! Hm, I'm intrigued by the possibility of it being very firmly rooted in the "now" instead of being an update that tries to ignore things like cell phones and the Internet because they don't fit into the old story.

Darn it! I don't get Telemundo anymore :(

Well I know I desperately wished I had a patio for Grimm last season (hulu has a pretty robust comment section, but you have to sign in with Facebook for some ridiculous reason). Plus, there's just no other place I've seen where the comments feel so much like a conversation.

There goes the Patio: ruining me for all other online forums. smh.

On the wiki page it also mentions that Bajo el mismo cielo also used the screenplay of "El Jardinero" as inspiration.

"There goes the Patio: ruining me for all other online forums. smh."

AMEN!

Grimm is one I enjoy as well. I don't know if I can really call it telenovela-esque, but I do enjoy the relationships as much as the supernatural stuff.

Telemundo telenovelas are available online, with only a few hours delay.

You don't even have to feel guilty about watching something bootlegged. :)

Well, that's nice of them! UVideos tends to have a longer delay and the very newest episodes require a login from your cable company in order to watch them.

And it's not a lot of cable companies, either. So I have Univision as part of my cable package, but my cable company is not one of the supported providers...so UVideos is useless to me.

Telemundo is very generous with their novelas. I can watch them on TV and my cable provider is one of the supported providers so when I travel and don't have Telemundo available, I can just watch on my tablet the next day.

I'm surprised Muchachita is replacing Sombra, since we haven't heard much buzz about it. But I have now seen the ads on Uni, so it must be so. I guess Uni has decided to go back to having a lighter tn on in the 7pm slot.

Bajo el Mismo Cielo sounds interesting, at least the movie does. I wonder how they were able to lengthen it to a th.

Well, here's some general site news...apparently our visitors from EU countries will be seeing a notification about cookies at the top of the site. So if anyone in the EU is wondering what that's about, it's Blogger/Google trying to comply with a law. Those of us not in the EU won't see anything different.

I also noticed from before that Telemundo also airs the first week of a new TN at 1:00 PDT the next day.

I am looking forward to A Que No Me Dejas. I started watching it on demand and I found it quite nice.

I am also suprised that Muchatita is replacing La Sombra but Livia Brito is always fun to watch still not so sure about Jose Ron.

I have found rumours about a Pasion Y Poder remake ( Also inspired Mundo De Fieras) that is supposed to replace LI. The casting has not been actually confirmed yet though.

Nanette, wow, sounds like Telemundo does a great job of promoting their new shows. I seem to remember there have occasionally been times when Univision will re-air the premiere episode the weekend after, but I think it's been years since they've done that. Same with the Gran Final episode. Maybe it was more about filling space in the schedule than attracting viewership?

Countx, they're at least showing commercials for Muchachita Italiana, and someone mentioned seeing one for A Que No Me Dejas.

Uni actually did re-air Yo No Creo at midnight, at least the first week. Not sure if it's continued this week.

And I think for a week or two they aired Yo no creo en los hombres at 1 in the afternoon (CST.)

Was there a commercial for A que me dejas or for Lichita? I haven't seen a promo for A que me dejas. It premiered un Mexico last night.

Whoops! Of course, now I can't find where I got that from...must have been a FF>> hallucination.

Initial reaction to 'A que no me dejas' is OVERWHELMINGLY positive. Good stuff!!!

http://masquetelenovelas.blogspot.ca/2015/07/lo-que-opina-el-publico-del-primer.html#more

Yup. But the only two shows ending any time soon are Sombra and Amores con trampa. Uni is already saying what's after Sombra and they have already run Lichita promos. And despite saying they would air ECDLP this summer, they have already pushed it back (at least according to the FB page.)

Lets not get the mob fired up quite yet.

Thanks for the link Stevey. For anyone not sure about clicking on it, it's mostly tweets and Facebook comments from people who watched the first episode, focusing on their reactions to it, but there is one mention of an event that happened during the show, so read at your own risk.

Sara, I could have sworn ECDLP is one they've been talking about for years already.

Well, yeah. Cause ECDLP is about a year old now. I feel like Uni missed the boat on that. The older a novela gets, the bigger chance of people having already seen it online.

Pasión y Poder

With Jorge Salinas and Fernando Columba in one novela..
I can't wait! !!!!♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

I'm guessing you'll have to! And for quite a while :D

Does anyone know if 'A que no me dejas' will be on HuluPlus?

A que no me dejas just premiered in Mexico YESTERDAY. It could be a very long time before we see it here. I'm sure it Univision airs it in primetime, it will be on hulu.

It took almost a year for us to get Quiero Amarte.

Sad (and discouraging) news from Mexico where, despite great initial reviews, 'A que no me dejas' premiered to the lowest ratings- by far- for a telenovela in its time spot- 12.8 (to draw comparisions, both 'Amor bravio' and 'La sombra del pasado' were in the 20's and 'Quiero amarte' (which- despite being a great novela- had previously been the lowest rated in its timeslot, and probably explains why it was so long in debuting up North) still got a 16.4. :-(

All of this is just furthering my belief that telenovela viewers in Mexico all have their heads firmly entrenched in their respective asses....

That's a really harsh generalization, and not even remotely fair to the viewers, some of whom are also our readers and hang out here on a daily basis.

If you want to blame someone for the situation, blame the executives who are making the decisions about what to air. All ratings tell you is how many people tuned in. That says nothing about the quality of the production or whether or not it's entertaining.

You're right, Diva, and I apologize. I AM one of those viewers, and it is, in fact, those executives who I both loathe and dread... they and their dreaded scissors and/or reshuffling. I hope that- after just one episode- AQNMD isn't ALREADY in any danger of ANYTHING other than just being allowed to be and to exist.

We are agreed about the tyranny of the scissors.

Honestly, I think the ratings are so low because the Mexican audience is tired of remakes, and not only that, remakes where the originals are less than 20 years old. And that seems to be all televisa is capable of nowadays.

Rain, that sounds like a reasonable explanation. I swear, I've seen some remakes where it looks like barely a year since the previous version!

Congratulations on your Caray debut, by the way :D

Thanks Diva. I am surprised and pleased with all the positive support I got. It's really heartening that people think my stupid jokes are funny. :D

Ratings in Mexico are low overall. To be fair, I thought the promos for A Que No Me Dejas were boring and I know many felt this way.

It's too soon to say how good a telenovela is though, the reason why people decide to watch a premiere depends on how well the promos sell it. There are telenovelas that start with low numbers and get better with time (like YNCELH did) others start great and then settle on lower numbers (like LSDP), there are telenovelas that premiere with very good numbers and then they flop (like CS2009) and there are novelas that start bad and continue bad (like Lo Imperdonable).

I know Carlos Moreno is popular here but I couldn't get into his last four or five novelas because I have watched and prefered the originals. However, Amor en Silencio is the first one that he has made that I didn't watch although that one was such a popular telenovela in the 80's that I know the main happenings of the story and have seen the big scenes in telenovela specials through the years. So, who knows what I'll think of A Que No Me Dejas.

Jarocha

I think that the ratings are low because people are tired of cable TV itself ( They want to watch where they want where they want) and the atrocious timelines so most viewers resort to streaming or not watching at all. You have to remember that AQD is in the 10 Pm zone so far which fuels more light on the fire. I will be tuning for atleast five episodes and then I might see how it does it for me. Also one fault of the low numbers is the stupid geo-blocking. Novela related channels are only avalible in US and nowhere else, not even in Spain.

A Que No Me Dejas is on at 7pm here. It is expected to get less viewers than the 8 and 9 pm novelas so the number are terrible but not as abysmal as the ones for Lo Imperdonable for its slot. Back when we had the 10 pm slot it was expected to get less a than the 9 and 8 pm ones too. I don't know how it is in the USA but I imagine it is simmilar.

Jarocha

My apologies, some Televisa channels appear to be avalible outside of U.S but still my point stands. Cable TV is getting obsolete because the viewers are sick of getting ordered around by their own products thus it results in the loss of numbers. People have lives so they want to watch the episodes in the very instant and not when the TV companies want them to.

I agree with that but the loss of viewers this year has been impreseivr, it's almost half of last year. I don't think it's all viewers wanting to watch tv on their own time because in their last weeks YNCELH managed to get almost 20 points at 6 pm and I think La Malquerida almost 23 at 7 pm. Lo Imperdonable is now stuck at a 16-18 at 9 pm. This kind of bad luck has happened in the past and they somehow manage get the audience back, the fall is now just bigger because of what you mentioned. If PyP manages to take that slot back to the 20's we'll know there's still an audience that has simply turned off their tv (since Azteca's numbers are not moving up).

I think people are tired of telenovelas at the moment and Televisa has to worry because if this is what they can achieve with a broke Azteca leaving them most of the cake, the two new networks that will offer new programing next year and the expansion of Netflix is going to make things harder for them in the upcoming future.

Jarocha

Jarocha- Do you think this decline in tn watching in Mexico will result in Teleslvisa making less tns per year? Wouldn't it be interesting if they started making less, but started putting more effort into making them all higher quality (better writing)? It's a difficult structure being a daily show. Perhaps they can make them 2-3 times a week instead or something.

Rain, isn't that a great feeling?! I love having a place where my humor is an asset and not something I have to hold back to keep from getting into trouble :D

Vivi, I agree a shift to quality over quantity would be a good thing.

La Diva
I think you may be wrong about "Pasión y Poder". Más que novelas has it starting right after 'Lo Imperdonable'

I usually don't take theit info as trash but maybe you have more experience reading their blog than I do.

Susanna Gonzalez and others are vying for the female lead.

I have to put in a vote for quality over quantity. That includes number of episodes. Even 120 can seem long if they are just stretching the story (La Gata, Mentir Para Vivir.)

Nope, I usually avoid reading anything about a show before it starts airing here. Maybe I'll check out the synopsis that someone posts, but otherwise, I'd rather know as little as possible.

As you say, it's barely in the casting stages now, so we're going to be waiting a while regardless. Plus the sequence of shows isn't always the same here, so the fact that there is a plan for when it's going to air in Mexico and what show it's going to follow doesn't necessarily mean anything for us in the US. It used to, but they've gotten a bit off track.

Well about Pasion Y Poder, Jorge Salinas & Fernando Colunga are fighting for the role. The producer said that FC is going to take the villian role for the first time in his career while JS is going to be the protangoist. Female protangoist is yet to be known. Well I ussualy take rumours with a grain of salt . I suppose more will be known when the promos come which is still a LONG time from now.

Victoria: "Jorge Salinas and Fernando Columba in one novela.." that would be awesome!!! And Count, FC as a villain--awesome, too.

Some non-TN news. Eva Longoria will be in a mid-season comedy called Hot & Bothered about a telenovela actor (I think this might have been mentioned on Caray before). And for those Bollywood fans, Priyanka Chopra is in a new fall show called Quantico

Nanette, hmmmmm, Hot & Bothered sounds like fun! Any idea when/where that's going to air?

Kat: NBC and mid-season--so not until beginning of 2016 earliest.

I am looking forward the most to Piel Salvaje from RCTV ( Directed by Cesar Manzano) La Querida De Centauro from Telemundo and Pasion Y Poder. I haven't seen anything from RCTV neither do I know the actors but the trailer got me hyped up.

Kat: Diana Maria Riva is in it. I love her. She's so funny. Loved her in Side Order of Life and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip two of my all time favorite series. Both short-lived--one season. Dying for SOoL to come out on DVD.

Ah yeah here is the link to the trailer of Piel Salvaje :D . It reminds me a bit of La Gata because of the wild Tarzan -like protangoist but I like it anyways,

http://youtu.be/CTzO239dijk

Count
Watch, La Hija del Mariachi by RCTV, best work Mark Tacher has ever done IMHO and he really sings.he has some songs on YouTube

There was a promo on Telemundo last night for "Celia", the TN about the life of Celia Cruz. It just said "Muy Pronto". Could it be replacing Avenida Brasil?

Gracias, Nanette! I have not seen SOoL, but I was looking at Diana Maria Riva's IMdB page and she's apparently been in lots of other shows that I've seen, but nothing I could instantly place her in until I got to...Fala in Chasing Papi! Score!

Vivi I think an overall increase in quallity would be beneficial but not right away, the network would need ro be parient, And yeah, more stories with good quality are better than less stories with dragging storylines. I don't know about weekly telenovelaa because those aren't part of the culture here, people like to have their daily fix and tend to forget about weekly dramas. Televa has treated its scripted series badly because of that even though they have had some good ones. The episodic dramas work better in that format than long standing storylines.

Jarocha

I think the only weekly drama I've seen was Mujeres Asesinas, though I'm not sure it really counts? If you missed an episode, it didn't matter. Like Law and Order.

One note about the late night re-runs on Telemundo
Sometimes on a Friday they are pre-empted by boxeo Telemundo
It only happens on Fridays and I have no idea how to predict when
Does boxing have a season?

Good point, sneaky! Thanks for the reminder.

I was fast forwarding so I didn't really pay close attention, but it looks like Univision is going to start airing Mexican movies on Sunday evening stating in August. The clips they were using looked Ike they are fairly decent and recent. I'll try to pay attention next time.

sneaky two shoes, I'm not sure boxing has a season. It always seems like a "wherever, whenever" kind of sport to me.

Sara, that sounds cool. I'd rather watch movies in Spanish that were originally in Spanish than the dubbed-over movies that were originally in English.

Although, if anyone is an Avengers fan, I highly recommend watching it with the Spanish dubbing! "Hulk, aplasta!"

On the movies in Spanish - Unimas is playing them on Thursdays - yesterday it was Casi Divas
but I missed it :(
