FATMAGUL:

Wednesday's recap was posted earlier today on the week's first Telemundo post.

Eva

I'll do a recap tonight.

Eva

Thanks so much, deb, you are one funny person! Loved the unnoticeable car! And that only we veteran TN watchers thought it was odd that the sleazy lawyer who’s supposed to be representing Eva was at Marlene’s house.

I was thinking about Doña Bárbara last night. Both Edith González and Arap Bethke were in that one. I wondered if they cast Arap because he was in love with a woman older than himself in DB. Maybe Edith liked working with him years ago and influenced his hiring as the galán.

I also think Edith is much better at portraying strength than weakness. The first couple of days and right after she found out about Armando’s infidelity with her niece, I wasn’t feeling the novela all that much.

Now she’s got that steely look in her eyes and she’s kicking you know what and taking names. It seems a better fit for her skills. I absolutely loved her moving Marlene’s stuff out and telling her she asked her nicely the day before and it didn’t happen. I also loved her reaming the crooked accountant or whatever that weasel is who is in on Armando’s fake robberies.

Of course they had to go with Adriana ignoring her mother’s insistence she stay away from Andy. I guess that’s what teenagers do. But I’m not liking that kid very much. Even when she was sympathizing with her mother, her acting was poor. Guess I just don’t like petulant teenagers.

FATMAGUL:

Romy's comment: "I wonder why in Spanish dubbing they call her "Ebe Nine" at all times not "hermana" In the Turkish version no one calls her Ebe Nine after, say, the first few episodes. They called her " Meryem abla" or just "abla" which is "Big sister Meryem and big sister" even Kerim. Anyhoo, great episode and greater recap."

Romy- This is so fascinating. I have often wondered why everyone calls her Ebe Nine all the time. Seems like it would be the kind of name the other ladies in the village would call her, but not, say, someone like Kadir who is just getting to know her. It was nice to hear Fahr call her by her given name this episode, Meryem. I also wonder why the Spanish version constantly dubs it as Ebe Nine 100% of the time? I think I might start calling her Meryem from now on. I assume since you saw the Turkish version with English sub-titles, you were able to see the more accurate translations.

Yes. I do the recaps from memory. Last night I emailed some of the quotes I wanted to use to myself, so that I could drop them in today.

FATMAGUL:

Romy's comment: "It's weird to say that, but I think when he is beside her she is always afraid to show him her love because she is afraid of what will happen next but in letters she goes for it."

This is so true. I do think Kerim not being physically present (and all that implies), allows Fatma to feel more free expressing her feelings for him. If he were there, there would be attraction on both their parts, and expectations for physical intimacy, which she is nowhere ready for.

GENERAL,
Apologies to all. I posted the page a few hours too early. Chalk it up to brain fog, but it means that you'll have to go back to Monday's page to find Vivi's excellent Wednesday recap of Fatmagul. Sorry guys, but I'll set my alarm next time.

General

LXV, please don't ever apologize for anything! You and Juanita are the BOMB for keeping us going here at Telemundo Central.

GENERAL, Thanks so much novelera. that means a lot! Juanita and I are doing our best as relative newbies and boy do we appreciate the great group we've got on our page. Not to mention (as you alluded to) the fact that we ARE still going here.

GENERAL:

LXV- Don't sweat it. We go where the page goes, and grateful to you and Juanita whenever you can post.

EVA
Apropos of what you said in previous remarks novelera, I really enjoyed the dynamics between Eva & Pablo this evening. His goony expressions somehow don't seem so weird anymore. There's real chemistry between them. Unfortunately they chose the wrong moment for the chemistry. Isn't that always the way. Just when you want a nice, clean divorce, true love sabotages the deal. And the complications with their special needs kids adds an extra layer to all this. I loved how Eva looked ruefully after Adriana as she flounced out in her petulant teenage way

EVA LA TRAILERA – JUEVES – Parte 1 de 2

Well we are definitely now in the stage of the novela where the villains appear to win every battle.

Marlene tries to pump Eva. She’s noticed a tiny spark of happiness and asks her about her new serenity and hope. “Is it a man?”

Armando and Evancio are outside the office where Pablo is trying to get data about the fake robberies and re-sale of stolen goods. He doesn’t get caught, but doesn’t get any data either.

Eva tells Marlene she would never ponerle los cuernos cuckold Armando. Marlene: “Not even for revenge?” Eva says not even for that. But, sadly, she goes on to tell la víbora that she has a friend (using the male amigo) who listens to her. Marlene is disgusted when they are interrupted before she can get a name.

Sofía sobs over her mother’s bed. After she leaves the room, a nurse tells her that Eva Soler is picking up the hospital bills.

Adriana has told her mother she doesn’t feel well and has gone to bed early. The scene switches to her dancing and being plied with alcohol by Andy the Asqueroso, hereafter AA. Chivo shows up at the club, and the two disgusting rats talk about how Andy is going to get her into bed.

Pancho and Soraya have brought Arnulfo home with them. They have the chauffeur pretend to be a nurse to fool the assisted living facility he’ll be cared for by medical personnel.

Pablo tells his father he’s going to call J. J. Juarez. Martín says the guy is crazy and unbalanced, but Pablo says the guy can hack any computer.

Adriana doesn’t get home until broad daylight and she’s still a bit drunk. Bobby discovers AA about to kiss her. Andriana, the little brat, introduces Bobby as her ex…ex…ex… After she goes inside Bobby is ready to fight AA, but Andy plays dirty. Said Andy, however, gets tased by Soraya’s little pink taser! Boy, was that ever fun!

After Soraya saves Bobby she hovers over him. He gets up and says he’s nothing to her (so why is she so affectionate is the sub-text).

Anyone else think that Marlene’s relationship with her brother is a tad inappropriate? She gets VERY close, touches him a lot and, last night, even had her hand on his thigh.

There’s an equestrian event for autism, maybe a fundraiser. Eva is there, and we see Fabiola very, very happy and comfortable on horseback. Pablo arrives to watch Diego and to flirt with Eva. A nearby jerk (our old buddy Suárez from Bajo el Mismo Cielo) gripes out loud about attending an event for retards. Eva gets in his face, and Pablo ends up punching him out.

Marlene sends AA to spy on the equestrian event because she has remembered seeing Eva and Pablo talking together.

Marlene comes to the plain vanilla apartment Armando has rented. He’s coming onto her big time.

Eva and Pablo were kicked out of the event. They have a long scene that boils down to him telling her he loves her. And her telling him he’s younger and it’s impossible.

EVA LA TRAILERA – JUEVES – Parte 2 de 2

Evencio is at Carmen’s bedside. He tells her he still loves her and she wakes up from the coma. [This might be a telenovela record for coming out of a coma. Colmillo took weeks!]

Adriana is very rude to Noemi, who’s brought her some soup for her “cold”. Noemi also notices the strong smell of alcohol in the room.

Chivo calls AA to say that Carmen is alive and will survive. Marlene goes nuts, breaking a vase full of flowers. She snarls that Chivo won’t get the rest of his money if Carmen doesn’t die. AA actually looks a bit scared of her.

Eva has a heart-to-heart with Soraya, telling her about Pablo. Soraya encourages her, and she also says that Armando is caduco (past his sell-by date). Eva tells her that she said vows. But she can’t resist saying that she likes Pablo a lot. But she also is afraid to suffer again.

Pablo comes home with a pizza and Martín is once again alcahueteando (acting as a go between and in cruder senses pimping someone) Betty by welcoming her into Pablo’s home. She’s brought Diego a soccer ball with a bow on it. Diego, his Aspergers showing, doesn’t mince words. He tells her he doesn’t like football. Martín takes him out of the room.

Soraya tells Eva to go ahead and go to the movies with Pablo, and if he acts up she’ll lend her the taser! While they’re talking Adriana walks by and is very rude to both Soraya and her mother.

Betty begs Pablo’s pardon. She says she behaved badly because she didn’t want to lose him. He’s had enough, really, and tells her she can’t lose what she never had. He apologizes for being tajante (harsh, calling a spade a spade), but she hasn’t been getting the message. Pablo says that, however much he tried, he couldn’t fall in love with her. She tries the friends gambit, but he says to forget about that and don’t seek him out any more. Betty appears to accept this and leaves. [I think she’ll be back.]

Eva is ready to leave and looks great. But, of course, Marlene is there and asks where she’s going. Eva lies and says she’s going to dinner with some amigas. Marlene calls AA right away and has him follow her. AA gets a cell phone picture of Pablo kissing Eva on the cheek outside the movie theater and sends it to Marlene. Marlene looks smug. [This is her go-to expression.] She orders him to call la chamaca.

Marlene has found Armando some kind of luxury apartment. He comes in with his luggage and says this looks expensive. She’s laid on some food and champagne. She arrogantly says she’s going to train him to behave as if he’s rico de cuna (rich from the cradle) instead of nouveau riche [except she said it in Spanish].

AA calls Adriana and, of course, takes her to the same movie where Pablo and Eva are watching some sort of action movie.

Armando and Marlene appear to be getting it on in the new luxury digs (on the sofa).

Pablo kisses Eva on the mouth in the lobby of the movie theater and we see Adriana shrieking: ¡Mamá!

General

LXV- (that's latin right?) as far as I'm concerned, you can post anytime, because when I see a new post I go first to the older post to make sure I got everything.

but for that matter, you can do anything you want, I am so grateful this page is still here, novelera nailed it, you and Juanita, are the BOMB.

Eva

wow novelera, this was such a wonderful recap!

"She’s noticed a tiny spark of happiness" in Eva, yes, Marlene is quick to put out the fires.

Michelle Vargas (Sofia) does emotion with the naivety of a young lady, very well.

I was waiting for Andy to put a little something in Adriana's drink, jerk, taser him again!

I think they referred to the horse event as equine therapy, ah, there is more info on the internet.

did Pablo say after he told Betty that he tried to love her but couldn't that it would be sick to carry on?

wow Novelera, I've been struggling with the word 'naco', but this show with your explanation of 'rico de cuna' and 'nouveau riche' resolved that.

¡Mamá!...

@deb, LXV refers to Lady Xoc's Vision. Lady Xoc was an important Queen-consort in 8th century Yaxchilan, considered one of the most powerful women in Maya civilization, Her vision was part of the ritual sacrifice made by the rulers (presumably for the benefit of their people). You can see it depicted in Lintel 25. ( LXV in Latin would be 65, which is mere coincidence). My real name is Agnes.

Eva

Wow, novelera, you hit it out of the park again! What a terrific recap! Comprehensive, concise, and with helpful Spanish to boot.

Yes, AA did look a bit scared of Marlene. And at times Armando too has been taken aback by her evil side (well, I guess it's more than a side). Beware the female black widow spider.

So apparently telenovela medicine has made great strides; as you said, Carmen's coming out of a coma is surely a record.

Eva

I was struck by the differing responses of children to their mothers in this episode. The two rebellious daughters seem perhaps to be moving in opposite directions, with Sofia pleading with her mother not to die while Adriana is appalled at Eva's kissing Pablo. And then there's Bobby re Soraya.

EVA

That was a brilliant recap novelera! thanks for alcahueteando Yes, that's exactly how I see Radames, er...Martín! I guess he thinks he's well-meaning and all, but what a meddler. And what a nasty set-up at the movie theatre by Marlacula and her demonic sibling AA. I hate to see kids used as pawns. I imagine Adri is going to get hurt big time! I hope not pregnant by that scum. And how much estrangement will we have to endure between Soraya and her hijito? I don't love what they're doing to Erick's father in the house there. What happens when the old creep finally kicks the bucket? Is she even related to him?

Does anyone remember references to equine therapy in a recent novela? not sure how recent, nor even if was on Telemundo or Uni—but I seem to recall it as a minor plot point within the last couple of years. Here's a wikipedia article about it.

Eva

Thanks, LXV, for the link to the equine therapy discussion. I knew nothing about it and was surprised at first that Fabiola didn't fall off the horse.

As for Adriana, my fear is that she will become pregnant by ScumBag, aka AA. I'm wondering what will happen if she does. Will she keep the baby? Will she have a miscarriage? Will she give the baby to Soraya and Pancho, who can no longer have any? Yes, I assume/hope Bobby will become a decent son eventually, but still....
(Then again, given my track record on telenovela predictions, my prediction of pregnancy is sure-fire birth control.)

Eva

LXV, deb filled me in on Arnulfo. When Soraya was sitting on Eva's sofa and telling her story, she stated that she was sent, I believe, to live and work her fingers to the bone on her tía's farm. Arnulfo was this relative's second husband, I think, thus her step-uncle. So, no relation.

Juanita, I'm voting against a pregnancy for Adriana. I think Telemundo, as a US network, has been a bit more modern about very young women getting pregnant. I think Marlacula's plan is for AA to seduce and then dump her, thus hurting Eva by breaking Adriana's heart.

I predict an eventual rehabilitation of Adriana AND Bobby, getting back together and being decent young people. But this is probably going to take a while. I may have to fast forward through Adriana's recriminations of her mother tonight. I guess she'll be an equal-opportunity castigator, though. She certainly reamed her father out.

deb, I also expected the pill in the drink at the club. I guess they're moving a bit slower than that.

FATMAGUL: Turkish Episode 43, Thursday 2/4/16:

Part 1:
Mustafa finally admits to Asu/Hacer at the cemetery that yes, he did kill Vural. But it was totally an accident! He begs Hacer not to turn him in to the police. He pleads, cries, whines, curls up in the fetal position. He tells Hacer how Vural has been haunting him—he sees him in every corner. He feels he has blood on his hands, and he feels worse each day. Things get a bit awkward when Vural’s parents show up at the cemetery. Mustafa tells them that he believes the Yasaran were behind Vural’s murder. Hacer looks at him in shock. Later at home, Mustafa continues the begging. “Don't testify against me. Don't ruin OUR future… Stay with me. Help me. You're the only one who can. I'm not a murderer.” Hacer finally gives in. She won’t turn him in, but she WILL still testify about what she saw, to help get Kerim out. A few days after, the two get married in a solemn civil service in an empty auditorium, with only Sami and Mustafa’s fisherman friend (FF) as witnesses, FF and Sami look happier and more excited than the bride and groom.

Kerim and Fatmagul have a happy phone call, where he shares that the trial will be in a week. He’s with Omer and Kadir in the prison director’s office making the call. In addition to the trial date being set, they’ve also managed to locate and get the statement of the cabbie that drove Hacer that night. Both Fatma and Kerim are overjoyed by all this good news. When Kerim and his lawyers leave the director’s office, his father is waiting outside. Kerim is still hostile and cold towards him.

The Yasaran prison mole (PM) is meeting with Munir. Sure, Kerim is paranoid and on edge, but Munir wants more! PM steps up the paranoia, telling Kerim that the Yasaran have paid someone to kill him. He forces a huge shiv on Kerim and puts it under Kerim’s pillow. One of the other prisoners makes the mistake of shaking Kerim to wake him from a nap, and ends up get shoved and yelled at by Kerim for his trouble. Understandably, he’s ready to rumble and the other prisoners jump into the fray. Tempers are flying and then suddenly PM shoves the shiv into Kerim’s hand. The others see it and jump back, calling Kerim crazy. Kerim finally realizes that PM is trying to instigate a tragedy—either to make him kill or get killed. He pounds on the door and calls the guard. He tells the guard that he “found” this shiv under his bed and has no idea where/who it came from. He doesn’t take his eyes off PM. The guard has the whole cell searched. They find nothing else, but decide to put Kerim in solitary for the rest of the week, until his trial. Kerim is cool with that. He’s made peace with the other prisoners, and asks one of them to water his plant for him while he’s in solitary.

In a letter to Fatmagul after the trial date is set, a hope-filled Kerim writes to her about their future-- getting married and having babies. “I want to see you in your wedding dress…I want to form a family with you…I love you with all my soul.” We did not get to see Fatmagul’s reaction to this passionate letter.

FATMAGUL- Thursday Part 2:
Ebe Nine/Meryem, on the other hand, is having a terrible week. Fahrettin is pressuring her to tell Kerim the WHOLE truth about Enise, ASAP. Neither of them knows the contents of the letter Enise left for Kerim when she committed suicide (the one Meryem took from the back of the photo frame), but Fahr is pretty sure it will show Kerim that it wasn’t all Fahr’s fault. Meryem is pretty sure it will hurt Kerim, and that he’ll be mad at her for never giving him the letter, as she was supposed to do when he came of age. She makes a commitment to give Kerim the letter as soon as the trial is over, but she is dreading that day, as she believes it will mark the end of her relationship with Kerim. She tells Fahr that Kerim will never forgive her. Fahr believes that, “Life will teach him to forgive.”

At home, everyone can tell that Meryem is worried about something. She tries to open up to Fatma and gets as far as telling her about the letter. Fatma stops her abruptly. “Don't tell me anything you haven't yet told Kerim.” Meryem goes off to walk, sit by the water and think by herself the next morning. Fatma tells Kadir what’s going on and about the letter. (He had begun to believe Mukaddes, that Meryem and Fahr’s meetings were about a secret love affair between them.) Mukaddes listens to their conversation from outside the window, and as soon as everyone leaves the house, she goes searching for the letter in Meryem’s room. Meryem unexpectedly comes home and catches Mukaddes. As she questions Mukaddes about what she’s doing, Mukaddes backs up, and backs herself right into a fall down the staircase. And if Meryem wasn’t already feeling bad enough, Mukaddes loudly accuses her of attacking her and pushing her sown the stairs, as the paramedics wheel her into the hospital. Rahmi is beside himself with worry, and even shoves Meryem away at one point. Luckily, the baby GIRL and Mukaddes are ok. However, the doctor prescribes rest for Mukaddes. She milks the whole situation for all it’s worth, and ends up being able to stay in the big house and being waited on hand and foot by everyone. She plots with herself about getting Meryem kicked out of the house/family. Ugh!

Fahr doesn’t just spend his time annoying Kerim and aggravating Meryem. He also does something really cool. He screws over the Yasaran. Seems that he’s become quite an important and rich businessman in Australia. He pretends that he’s interested in investing in the flailing Yasaran Holdings, and has his people set up a meeting with Resat, Munir, Selim, and Erdogan. Resat should have known that things would go south when Fahr refuses to shake his hand, and Munir should have guessed who he was when he saw his last name- Ilgaz. But they are both just so desperate and excited to have a new investor. Fahr looks at and addresses the four of them with contempt. “I have no interest in your company. I'm here to avenge my son. Kerim is no longer alone…If you try anything, I will sink you, because I have nothing to lose.” The looks on their faces are priceless!

The Yasaran quickly start to turn on each other. Later at home, Resat openly accuses Munir of being behind Vural’s murder—just like he engineered turning Mustafa into an assassin which led to Selim getting shot. Periham, along with Hilmiye, overhears this, and can’t believe she was duped into believing the suicide attempt story about Selim. Now she wonders if Resat was behind Vural’s death. He swears to her that he is not.

One thing does cheer Resat up. Erdogan’s honey trap for Turaner worked, and now they have the sex tape. Resat tells the boys to upload it to the web. The result is swift—front page story about the scandal for days, and poor Ender kicking Turaner out and starting divorce proceedings.

FATMAGUL- Thursday, Part 3:
The trial day finally arrives. The Yasaran mothers are there to support Semsi and Leman, but supposedly Leman wasn’t well enough to travel to Izmir for the trial. Yasar, who was implicated as the hitman, has also been called to testify. The cabbie and Hacer testify to what they saw, and Fatma and Kerim are surprised when they hear her new married name announced. They both turn to look at Mustafa and see his wedding band glistening brightly. The judgement is announced quickly. Kerim is free to go! The case is still unsolved and open, so the evidence will continue to be gathered, and they all must come back for a follow-up hearing on March 5th of the coming year.

While the trial is happening in Izmir, in Istanbul Resat arrives home, and is greeted with a gunshot!

Fatma waits anxiously for Kerim outside the prison gate. The production folks (or nature) crank up the wind, so that both Fatma and Kerim look like they’re in a shampoo ad (or a JLo video). When she sees him approach, Fatma’s heart skips a beat, and she puts her hand to her chest. Kerim has his duffle bag in one hand, and his plant in the other. As soon as he’s through the gate, he drops the bag and takes the hand Fatma offers him, along with her congratulations. He pulls her in to a long and soulful embrace. It takes a while before he notices that Meryem, Kadir and Omer are there too. He gives Fatma the plant and embraces Meryem. Meryem notices Kerim looking around expectantly, and tells him that his father decided to stay away today, but wants to see him in Istanbul. Kerim, of course, refuses. Fatma steers them away from this touchy subject and into the car.

Fatmagul and Kerim sit alone in the back seat of Kadir’s car—her right hand protectively holding the plant on the car seat, but also temptingly close to his left hand. Kerim inches his hand closer to hers-- soon their fingers are entwined and caressing, and both of them are blushing from the sensation. He takes her hand to his lips and lightly kisses it. A thrill runs through Fatma and she smiles nervously. The moment is nearly broken when Kadir asks why the two of them are so quiet back there. (Arrgg!) Kerim prevents Fatma from pulling her hand away, and instead brings it to his chest. Kerim tells Kadir that nothing is going on. He’s just enjoying the light of day. Kerim and Fatma share a secret smile.

-End of episode.

Eva

Novelera, I hope you're right about the non-pregnancy. A broken heart and/or a broken hymen is less serious these days than a pregnancy, at least in most Western countries. And, as I said earlier, my prediction that Adriana would become pregnant is an almost infallible contraceptive. :-) )

I agree with you about the likelihood of eventual redemption for both Adriana and Bobby.

[Weird--the captcha thingy is spinning around and around and around..it's been doing so for almost a minute already. Guess I'll try to put it out of its misery.]

Eva. Excellent recap, novelera, as usual, and I second everything people have said about Juanita and LXV. Thanks for saving the Telemundo site, guys! Carmen is getting well way too fast. I expect that means she isn't long for this world. And I noticed that the hospital was labeled Los Angeles, so I guess that is really where this tn is taking place--somehow it doesn't have the same feeling of place that Bajo did, or even those telenovelas set in a fictional Houston where everyone speaks Spanish and large wealthy cattle ranches are only 5 minutes from downtown. I suspect J.J. Juárez is going to be a comic relief character. We certainly use one about now.

Eva. could use one, that is.

Fatma: Vivi, I found the whole Ebe Nine thing weird like you said even Kadir? No. I can attest that name was never said after they left the village. In Spanish, they could even say "tia". Fatma is nowhere near ready for anything more than hand holding, but she is clearly semi comfortable in close physical proximity with Kerim which is progress. The two were too cute in the car. Muka is incorrigible insinuating Fahr and Meryem had an affair. Busy body as always. Fahr is no slough and as annoying as he was I am happy he is there for the kids. Great job as usual. Thank you.

Fatma

Rhami was disappointing in this episode. I hate he put his hands on Ebe...especially since we all know that Mukka deserves what happened to her...but more importantly....she was snooping and lied about, ran when she got caught and injured herself. She should have lost the bebe...but that would have made things hard for Ebe.

At first I didn't understand why Mukka was putting those negative thoughts in Kadir's mind. I mean this guy is giving her shelter...that she doesn't deserve and she's messing in his life. And Ebe has been nothing but good to everyone in her family and this is how she repays her. But now I see it's to drive a wedge between him in Ebe since she's trying to get rid of Ebe. And why is she so worried about getting rid of Ebe so she can stay in that house. She has her own money but she's always been a user...from day one starting with using Rhami.

Speaking of Ebe...I thought she and her mother had read the suicide and knew it would hurt Kerim and that's why they kept it from him? I don't think they should have kept it from him if they didn't know the content...doesn't make sense that anyone would do that. It could have just as easily been an uplifting message.

How bold of Mustafa to blame someone else for Vurals death in front of Asu....knowing that she knows the truth. That's slimy on so many levels.

Vivi...your statement about Kerim and Fatma in a JLo video....Naw...way to many clothes on for that :>)

@LXV, wow, thanks for the explanation of the name you are using, Mayan things I find both fascinating and puzzling.

Eva

I guess a conversation between J.J. Juárez and Martin led Diego to comment that Fabiola wasn't a lady yet, only a girl until show grows some melons.

EVA @deb, that scene was hilarious and only too true to life. That is precisely the sort of thing a kid with Aspergers would blurt out. They hustled him out of there in a hurry.

Eva

ah, casual friday.

Telemundo gave us two major spoilers before this show started, the first one we saw tonight with Marlene seducing Armando, who convinces Armando to turn his phone off while they play.

at the movies, Eva slaps Adriana who leaves with a guy on a moto,

Pancho gets uncle's attention by turning off the oxygen, then explains, he will get the best in medical care, but no one will talk to him but he and Soraya.

Andy takes Adriana to a hotel, she's not happy but she didn't want to go home, locks herself in the bathroom, but later succumbs to Andy's help and some wine, and falls asleep.(Marlene doesn't want her home or talking to Eva)

Eva blasts Pablo for what happened, he goes home but decides he better go after the Mon-Sol computer tonight, because he won't be working there for long, he brings Evencio some booze and sneaks in JotaJota who by morning has got the goods, Pablo hands the disc to his dad, (whew, I keep expecting to see Betty sitting there when he gets home)

was that Santi from Bajo in one of the early morning trucks?

Eva goes nuts all night not knowing where Adriana is, busts into the Monteverde's looking for bobby jr., no it wasn't him, they broke up, she has a new boyfriend, a bad seed.

and neither Andy nor Marlene are home.

after wearing out Armando, Marlene returns Eva's call, and rushes to her side (with some salt for the wounds), seems like she had a date, don't you think you should call Armando?

the new orderly at the hospital, male nurse Chivo, swishes past the chair sleeping Sofia and on to Carmen's room, which is surprisingly like a real icu room (not the usual back hallway closet next to a getaway door to the alley), and wow, he actually removes her oxygen tube before he smothers her with a pillow, oh wait, a doctor making the rounds appears and chases him away.

Eva calls Pablo while he is breaking into Mon-Sol, to apologize for blaming him, it's not his fault, she should never have been there, and accepts his resignation, and hangs up.

next morning Marlene arranges for Andy to get home early and Adriana much later, and lets Eva know he's home.

Eva is in his face, but he says he totally backed off after she warned him. (I'm thinking stalker Soraya knows all in the hood)

Armando, alone in his hotel room, is awaken by breakfast, courtesy of Marlene (who times her productions perfectly) he isn't into tipping but notices 35 calls from Eva.

the always happy Soraya drops in on Eva to hear the latest on the date, not so good, then Adriana walks in the door, and wants nothing to do with her mother.

(these interactions by Eva and Adriana are fascinating, as much as Eva's world is crumbling all around her, she is a master at being a mother)

hmm, the gran final of Marlene's plan includes Pablo, but he wasn't at work today, called in sick.

so he can stalk, and as he sits in his car outside of Eva's house, soon joined by Soraya, master stalker, who gives him some pointers as to not being seen by Armando who has just arrived.

just in time for Armando to hear from Adriana that Eva has a lover, totally unacceptable to a guy that's walking bow-legged from the night before, and the maids in the back door hear it all, and as the scene is soon to be orchestrated by Marlene, but Soraya returns,

wow, could it be that Soraya's worldly experience is a match for Marlene's ingenious plotting, (do I hear Batman music in the background of this summary)

if only she would have tasered Armando as she walked past him to confront the snake, yes, they all agree, this is only between Armando and Eva, and leave.

EVA

Still rolling on the floor laughing my head off. That was so great, deb! I love your sly asides. They tell it all: Marlene "rushes to her side (with some salt for the wounds)". Armando "isn't into tipping" (This reemphasizes Marlacula's assessment of his complete lack of finesse. He's really just a truck driver after all.) ¡Muchas gracias! A great way to start the day.

Eva

Deb, what a superb recap! Informative and utterly delightful! Muchísimas gracias. I especially enjoyed "after wearing out Armando, Marlene returns Eva's call, and rushes to her side (with some salt for the wounds)" and also "totally unacceptable to a guy that's walking bow-legged from the night before."

Yes, I too have been impressed with how well Eva deals with her children, no matter how stressed or upset she may be. And IMHO that includes the well-deserved cachetada (who's keeping the Slap Count for this novela?).

And let's hear it for "stalker Soraya"! I think you may be right about her worldly experience (and good heart) being a match for Marlene's ingenious plotting. ¡Ojalá!

Celia

Is anyone else watching this novela? Because I don't see any comments being made about it except that it ends soon. Also, to anyone who is watching, does this novela seem at times that it's more about the life of Lola Calvo and not the life of Celia Cruz?

Celia: @britishcomedyan, I am but I have not much to say. First, a lot of it is pure fiction. Second, I would say you are right about the Lola part. My husband actually not only preferred Lola's singing but her story too, lol. Third, why couldn't they use make up to age the first Celia and Pedro? I would have preferred that because I was rooting for old/young Pedro to get old/young Celia. I can not believe they have Eliezer, the perv live until the last capitulo, oy. What a slime ball.

Eva. Brilliant recap, deb! How long before Soraya finds out exactly what Marlene is up to and reveals it to Eva, who really should have figured it out for herself by now?

Eva

Eva

Deb, another demonstration of your terrific wit and ability for well-written recaps! Brava!

I was mulling over Soraya being able to tell Eva that AA was the one who brought Adriana home after the night at the antro. I always wonder about that Spanish usage for disco. Maybe they don't use it in the US. Anyway, after thinking it over, I am pretty sure Adriana had already gone inside when Soraya showed up. So she likely only saw jerk AA standing over her wounded bebe and might not be able to connect AA with Adriana.

Yep, I was totally fuming at the brass cojones of Armando talking about betrayals and deceit after spending (most of) the night with her best friend, months of sex with her niece, and apparently years of other infidelities.

Not tipping the room service guy was apparently meant to chalk up another mark on the villain side of his character.

FATMAGUL: Turkish Episode 44, Friday 2/5/16

HOMECOMING

Part 1:
Fatmagul and Kerim hold hands and share secret smiles in the backseat of the car on the way back to Istanbul. The group stops at a restaurant for lunch, and Kerim asks Fatma if he’s dreaming. He can’t believe he’s free, happy, and holding her hand. He’s pretty much floating on air. During lunch, Kerim notices how quiet and on edge Ebe Nine/Meryem seems. She’s on the verge of tears. Everyone else tries to play it off—they say Meryem is just finally letting out all her pent up emotions from the trial. Kerim asks if part of it is Fahrettin bugging her. Meryem, of course, is fretting about how Kerim will respond when she finally gives him his mother’s suicide letter addressed to him. She flashes back to when Kerim was a teenager, and her mother had just passed away. She was deep in grief, when Kerim comes and reminds her of when she pledged to be both mother and father to him after his mother died. “You have been both for me. We’ll care for each other. I’ll never abandon you. I’ll be with you always.” She begins to cry and abruptly leaves the table to wash her face. She calls Fahr, who once again pressures her to give Kerim the letter that day.

In the car, Kerim falls asleep on Fatma’s shoulder, and she’s quite happy to have him stay there. Later, the two get out of the car, and head upstairs on the ferry. They flirt and laugh…until, Mustafa and Asu/Hacer show up. Awkward!!!! Fatma handles it best. She graciously thanks Hacer for her testimony. She prods Kerim to do the same with just a look. Mustafa and Kerim give each other stink eye, while pretending to be civil. Kerim looks Mustafa dead in the eye and says, “I won’t be at peace until they catch the REAL killer.” Mustafa and Hacer become uncomfortable and go inside, but the two couples continue to eye each other warily. Kerim points out to Fatma that Mustafa was also in Ildir the night of the murder and that the murderer came by boat. Fatma gets mad at Kerim for suggesting that Mustafa could be the murderer. She absolutely does NOT believe that could be true. Meanwhile, inside Mustafa and Hacer are also arguing. Hacer says she knows Mustafa still loves Fatma. “I don’t know whether to pity myself or you.” Mustafa denies it and swears on all he has that he loves her (Hacer). He does not fail to notice Kerim run his fingers through Fatma’s hair as they make up. Fatma and Kerim go back downstairs, where Meryem and Kadir can observe them, and continue to flirt happily. He promises Fatma that there is nothing but good times ahead for them. “I promise you won’t suffer any more.”

Meryem observes them and tells Kadir, “Even if they don’t want me close by, I hope they continue being happy.” Kadir doesn’t understand why she’s going to give Kerim the letter, if she really thinks this will ruin her relationship with him. “I gave my word. It’s a risk I’ll have to take.”

FATMAGUL: Friday, Part 2:
Resat comes home, and gets shot in the leg as soon as he enters his front gate. Leman steps out from the shadows holding a gun, and seems intent on shooting him again. “You killed my son, and you’re going to pay! You should be the one who’s dead!” Resat’s guards grab her, get the gun from her, and Resat even manages to hobble up and slap her. He orders them to NOT call the police. While Resat’s in the hospital with Selim and Erdogan, Munir has Leman locked in the basement of the house. She’s still mad as hell, and a tad plain old crazy, and demands to be let out. She points out that their downfall started with the Fatmagul affair, and believes it’s a curse that’s following them. She wants to go tell the authorities the whole truth about the rape and cover-up. Munir is not about to let that happen. Semsi, fresh from the trial in Izmir, comes to pick her up. Munir basically tells him to control his woman. The gun is registered to Semsi, and the Yasaran are going to hold on to it, to ensure he does his part in keeping Leman quiet. Munir then tells the staff that they didn’t see or hear anything. It didn’t happen.

Selim calls Perihan and Hilmiye, who are also on their way back to Istanbul from Izmir, and tells them to come straight to the hospital because Resat fainted from a low blood pressure incident. They find out the truth as soon as they arrive, and are shocked by what Leman did.

While at the hospital, Erdogan notices an attractive doctor tending to a little boy who was hit by a car. The camera gives us Erdogan’s point of view, as he creepily eyes Dr. Nil Yorgen’s boobs and legs. He then feigns being a decent human being by paying for the boy’s medical care, in order to impress her. He then stalks her on social media. (Watch out, Nil!)

In Ankara, Turaner is looking worse for wear. He tries to speak to Ender, but she and Meltem kick him out of the house. We later see him looking miserable, with a half drunk bottle of booze, sitting behind the desk of his office. He calls Mustafa and cryptically asks Mustafa to look after Meltem and to not let the Yasaran hurt her. He hangs up. Mustafa and Hacer decide to call the police. The next day, there’s breaking news about Turaner having been found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He’s barely clinging to life.

Kerim, Fatma, Meryem and Kadir finally arrive home. Kerim sees the house and the view for the very first time, and he’s very impressed. Rahmi and Murat comes outside to greet them. Murat hugs and kisses his uncle, and even wants him to pick him up because he missed him. It’s very sweet. As he crosses the threshold, Kerim remembers the previous year, when they moved into their first home in Istanbul, and Fatma was barely speaking and hostile. This time, she’s smiling and bidding him to enter their home.

Kerim is given the tour. He’ll sleep in Kadir’s study, although there is much talk of switching bedrooms and moving in extra beds—even Fatma offers to put an extra bed in her bedroom…for Meryem, of course. They’ll have more room when Mukaddes MOVES BACK to the little house. Ahem…

FATMAGUL: Friday, Part 3:
Fatma prepares a delicious feast, and Kerim is very appreciative. Even Meryem has relaxed a bit. Kerim finds her looking through their old photos, hugs her and tells her how much he loves her. She tries to bring up his parents, and asks him to take a walk with her after dinner, but he refuses. “I don’t want to talk about him right now. I’m happy.” He and Fatma flirt in the kitchen after dinner. He tells her he didn’t stop thinking of her one second while he was in prison. He asks her if she missed him. Mukaddes butts in and ruins the moment by coming in and saying, of course she missed him. She then puts them on the spot by asking when they’re having the wedding. Kerim thinks in the spring. Fatma blushes and looks uncomfortable about the subject.

Kadir spots Fahrettin sitting in his car outside and goes to speak with him. He asks Fahr to please just leave Kerim and Meryem be that night. Kerim just got home, for pete’s sake! Fahr wanted to be close by when Kerim read the letter, but finally agrees to go. Inside, Mukaddes decides to upset things by telling Kerim his father is outside. Before Kerim can go curse his father out, Meryem pulls him into her room to give him the letter his mother left him. Kerim takes the letter and runs outside to read it. It says:

“Kerim, son. I’m sorry. What I most want is to take care of you. But I know when I’m not here, your father will know how to care for you. He’s been angry with me for years, and I hope you also won’t hate me like he does. But I’m sure he’ll come for you and you’ll both be happy. The only obstacle between the two of you is me. In my absence you’ll start a new life together, and you’ll slowly forget me. Today, I cried as I haven’t cried in years, and I’ll keep crying, even when I’m gone. I’m sure of that. My heart froze in the moment I married your father. The memory of the man I really love always stayed with me. All of our lives are predetermined, and mine will end at this crossroads (encrucijada). I became your father’s wife; I’m your mother; but I never stopped loving that man. He died the day you were born, and that day, I died too. I imprisoned your father in this unhappy marriage. And you, my sweet dear, to be raised without love…I have this wound in my heart, that hurts as if I had been stabbed. I see your father’s eyes looking at me with love, and I can’t return that love. I can’t go on. I can’t go on living, even with you, my love. I know that this will be difficult for you to understand, and that you may never understand. Forgive me, my son. I hope to one day have in my arms again. Don’t blame anyone else for my death. I just hope that you are very happy with your father. Take care of each other. – Mother”

FATMAGUL: Friday, Part 4:
While Kerim reads the letter, both Fatma and Meryem have followed him outside. He turns to Meryem and asks how she could have hidden this from him. She explains that it was years before she and her mother opened the letter. They were waiting for his father to return. But after his father never came back, they opened the letter, and then decided it was better to protect the image he had of his beloved mother.

Kerim runs off angrily, and Fatma follows him. She lets him cry, and the two then end up spending the whole night sitting and talking by the water. He lets Fatma read the letter. “No one could fill the emptiness in her heart. Not even me. She only loved that man. She couldn’t even tell me she loved me before she died. My own mother didn’t love me.”

The two of them finally start walking back to the house. Kerim reluctantly follows Fatma. Then he starts remembering the early days of their marriage—when she declared him her enemy; when she tried to stab him in his sleep; when she screamed at him not to touch her; etc. (Ah, good times.) He stops suddenly, and has an epiphany. “That’s how you feel, isn’t it? Like my mother. I’m not enough for you. You haven’t forgotten Mustafa.” Fatma looks at him like he’s lost it, and tells him their situation is different. “How’s it different? You know I love you, but you’re with me by force.” Fatma looks him in the eyes and says, “Perhaps it was like that before, but now it’s different.”

-End of episode.

FATMAGUL:

I just because I loved that hand-holding scene so much, I found it online:
https://youtu.be/GLloNUx4Ig0?t=110

I totally get why Meryem and her mom didn't give Kerim that letter. What good would it have done him as a boy/teenager to read that letter, especially when it was so full of expectations that Kerim's father would come back for him. He never did! It would have been two blows to Kerim-- a mother it turns out didn't love him enough to stay; and a father who didn't love him enough to come back.

Fatma...

Vivi...how great that you translated the whole letter. I see I understood more of it than I thought. What a sad letter existence for Kerim's mother. She was so miserable that she took her own life. Unfortunately, Kerim suffered the most for his parent's actions....no matter the intention. And I agree....hopefully Kerim will one day see why Ebe and her mom did not share that letter with him in his youth.

So the vipers are turning on themselves. I blame Mustafa for the shooting. He put that idea in Leman's head at the cemetery. Shame on him...he should have nightmares about that shooting as well as Vural's death. It was bad enuf he kept quiet about Vural's accident, but his words to the parents were intentional and evil. How could Asu love him and look up to him after witnessing that....and she knows he still loves Fatma.

The Yassarans are good at hiding things from the public/police. This is the 2nd shooting on their property that they've lied about and covered up. But Leman is right....call it a curse or Karma but the whole Fatma thing is coming back to bite them....over and over again apparently.

Nett

FATMAGUL:

Nett- Yep, what Leman calls a curse is actually karma. Can't wait for karma to make the final blow to Erdogan, Selim, Resat, and Munir. Seeing them fret about their diminishing wealth has been fun, but I want more. Especially now that Erdogan and Selim are out of prison and looking as happy and smug as ever.

Fatma:
Without giving anything away that all the letter did is convinced Kerim that Fatma is just like his mom forced in a loveless marriage with someone imposed on her, oy, oy, oy and his mom did not love him. And we know how Kerim is impulsive and reacts before the thinks of consequences so I am saying no good can come of this situation. I can't wait for you to see how Kerim reacts with this truth. I understand he needed to know about the letter. The mom is wrong, wrong, wrong, your child comes first before a grand amour. She was depressed and not very fair to her child. The dad has no excuse to just leave your only child behind for 20 years. Thanks always Vivi.

FATMAGUL:

Romy- Yeah, I figure that this revelation about his mother is a big setback for Kerim, because he can't help but compare himself and Fatma to his father and mother. Oy! Not good!

ITA about his mother and father. It seems to me that maybe his mother was clinically depressed. She for sure needed some therapy. In any case, both his parents acted selfishly.

Fatmagul

Vivi wonderful recap.

Kermis and Fatma are there for one another during painful experiences for both of them (she with the rape and he with the letterfrom his mom). For Kermim this is very difficult, a mom who abandons you for death and a father who abandons you for a life without you in Australia. Rough stuff. I can understand how Kerim rejects his dad coming into his life now that he is an adult. Don't understand how the dad can hold Ebbe resp for Kerim's felling towards him; with or without the letter he is cupable. These scenes were painful and hard for me to watch.

The Yasarans have no conscience and accept no resp for Turaner's death. This group is beyond redemption. Come to think of it I don't want redemption for them, I want revenge!

FATMAGUL:

Brenda- You're starting to sound like one of our characters with all this revenge talk. LOL!
