Yago #23. Monday June 20, 2016. Relationship Status: It’s Yagomplicated.

At a glance

-- Lucio pulls an elaborate stunt to verify whether Yago is Sara’s lover. To no avail.
-- Ámbar leaves her sister’s house to go live with Yago, her love interest, who, unbeknownst to her, is her sister’s mystery boinker, that her brother-in-law is determined to find and kill.
-- Abel discovers that Sara, his best friend’s wife, is having an affair with his love rival, who happens to be the love interest of Sara’s sister, who happens to be Abel’s love interest.
-- Katia and Teo sleep together to ease the tensions of their complicated working relationship.

A closer look

Flashback, Mexico City, a few years ago. Young Bruno is quarreling in the schoolyard with Young Eduardo from MEPS, in his pre-Járvar days. Bruno is accused of stealing a wallet and though he maintains his innocence, nobody is willing to believe in the word of a murderer’s brother. This insult enrages Bruno who rains blows upon his classmate. The principal interrupts the fight and reprimands Bruno for his violent and disruptive behavior. The problem teen had been expelled from several schools already, does he want to be thrown out of this one as well? asks the principal. Justice isn’t achieved through delivering punches. He hands Bruno a book by Polish journalist, Ryszard Kapuściński (1932-2007), called: “Cynics Are No Use At this Profession: About Good Journalism”. That day, Bruno discovered another way to raise his voice (alzar la voz) against injustice and to defend the truth.

Present time. Alejandra and Bruno are in bed, post-nookie. She hops in the shower and he goes to check the drafts she is currently working on for her blog, despite the fact that she had told him, just a few minutes earlier, that she wasn’t comfortable with him reading her unfinished blogposts. She catches him looking through her computer and gets mad. He is ticked off that she is lying to him. Despite his objection, she kept investigating Lucio. Alejandra believes there is something dodgy about Lucio and Bruno believes that Lucio is his brother from another mother. What we have here is failure to communicate. Bruno breaks up with Alejandra and storms off, thought-bubbling on his way out: “Trusting someone is an act of faith, but I should’ve learnt from what happened to Omar. Faith doesn’t move mountains. Faith buries us under them”.

At Yago’s lair, Katia tells Yago about her near falling-off-the-wagon episode, which was provoked by a family issue that she prefers to forget. Yago apologizes for not coming to her rescue earlier. He recounts what happened with his mother when he confessed to her that the plot against him/Omar was hatched by Sara, Lucio and Abel. Yago is very upset that Melina didn’t believe him. He feels that, on top of everything that Lucio took from Omar, he also stole his mother’s trust. Katia advises her friend to give Melina time. Yago thinks that Melina needs more than just time. Katia looks worried. Maybe she guessed what Yago intends to do, since she can read him like an open book. The two friends touch foreheads to comfort each other for the terrible day they both had.

At Casa Sarquis, Lucio reproaches Ámbar for taking Matías without his consent. Ámbar says that Matías was bored and that if Lucio cared about his son, he should’ve taken him out himself. Lucio doesn’t like that his sister-in-law is giving him attitude and insinuating that he doesn’t worry about his son’s welfare. However, before he can retort properly, Ámbar leaves in a huff, taking Mati with her. Sara witnesses the end of the argument and thinks her husband is overreacting. Lucio believes his wife ought to be more attentive to her family.

Abel and Lorenzo are at home cleaning the Muscatti motorcycle and talking about their upcoming trip to the other side, to gringo country (el gabacho). Abel isn’t sure whether Yago will be able to offer him employment Stateside. Lorenzo is excited about all the things the US has to offer, from job opportunities to entertainment options. Abel thinks that, firstly, the young lad needs to stop being a lazybones (holgazán) to concentrate on studying and learning English. “We’ll forget everything there is in this country”, promises Abel. Lorenzo feels blue: His dad is buried in Mexico and he won’t be able to visit him once he moves to the US. “Your dad lives in you. He’ll go with you wherever you go”, says Abel, as he puts his comforting albeit creepy palm over Lorenzo's face.

At Casa Sarquis, Ámbar and Matías are arm-wrestling. The kid wins and calls his aunt a weakling (debilucha). Sara tells Mati that she used to always win when she arm-wrestled with Ámbar. “You always win in everything, don’t you?” says Ámbar, as she leaves the room. Awkwarrrd! Sara apologizes for leaving her boy alone all day. Mati tells her that he had a fun time at Melina and Jonás’s house. He also gets why his mom likes Yago so much. Awkwarrrd x 2!

Outside Yago’s lair, Katia and Teo meet. She asks him whether his demons keep surrounding him still. He asks her whether her demons are still tormenting her. She suggests they get their demons together one day, to give them some good entertainment. Teo’s icy facade cracks for a split second and Katia detects the barely suppressed smile. When she mentions it, Teo goes back to business-as-usual mode. He enters to see Yago and discuss Abel’s sudden interest in relocating to the US. Abel is up to something, thinks Yago. Teo surmises that Abel’s eagerness to leave Mexico has something to do with the murder of Lorenzo. Yago instructs Teo to find out what new plan Abel is cooking. Yago can also tell that Teo is warming up to Abel, so he reminds him how dearly Omar paid for the affection he felt towards Abel.

At Casa Sarquis, Lucio calls Abel to ask him how they can get a cellphone unblocked. Sara’s cellphone to be more precise.

It’s morning time at Casa Guerrero. Bruno is doing push-ups and his mother can tell he is upset or preoccupied about something, since these are the only reasons that lead him to exercise. Bruno informs Melina that he broke up with Alejandra because she has been investigating Lucio. She seems convinced that Lucio is involved in something dodgy. Melina reckons that maybe Alejandra is right; maybe the Guerreros shouldn’t trust Lucio. Bruno is adamant that Lucio is family and that they must defend him. Bruno goes as far as drawing a parallel between this Lucio situation and what happened to Omar. Bruno should’ve gotten smacked for even suggesting this.

In the garden of Casa Sarquis, Abel informs Ámbar about his relocation plans. He also tells her that he enlisted Yago’s help to find a job in the US. Although he is not a fan of the Spaniard, Abel hopes Yago will make Ámbar very happy. “He’d better!”, says Ámbar jokingly. Ay, poor sickly chickadee! If you only knew!

Yago and Fidel are sitting in that deserted theater where Fidel spends most of his day, playing chess and planning world domination. Fidel wants Yago to use his rage as an instrument to intensify his revenge. Yago wants a guarantee that his son will end up with him. He doesn’t want Mati near Lucio anymore. Yago and Fidel decide that Lucio should start paying what he is owed, starting with a stint in jail. A punishment similar in nature to what Lucio inflicted upon Omar. “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”, declares Fidel, matter-of-factly.

Ámbar and Abel are still chit-chatting in the garden. Ámbar admits that she is feeling more and more uncomfortable in her sister’s house. Abel asks her why she doesn’t leave Mexico. Because she wants to stay with Yago. And with Mati. But mostly with Yago. Abel advises her to find her own pied-à-terre in the city.

Back in Fidel’s theater, Yago and Fidel are still plotting against Lucio. Fidel knows that Lucio worships money, so all that is needed is to get the bait (anzuelo) ready. Fidel also believes that the only way Yago could get his son back is by putting Sara and Lucio out of commission; it’s not enough to just strip them (despojar) of their material possessions. Yago reminds his mentor that Lucio has always vied for what other people have; it’s just a matter of finding something he really fancies then setting the trap. A trap so effective that it would land Lucio in jail. However, Yago is adamant to protect Mati. Fidel insists that Yago can’t soften up (ablandarse) now; his revenge is what matters the most. Yago reiterates the importance of protecting his son, above everything else. He adds that he won’t allow someone who has never had kids to dictate how he ought to deal with his own child. Wow, that was a low blow, Yaguito! Fidel is shaken but he tries to hide it: “You’re right. What do I know about having kids?” Fidel asks whether there has been any advances with Julia Michell. Yago shakes his head no.

Lucio brings Abel Sara’s cellphone so he can hack into it. Abel wonders what’s up and Lucio admits that he suspects his wife is cheating on him. Abel, who has a functioning brain after all, suggests the lover may be the Spaniard. Lucio discards this possibility.

Katia lies to Teo, pretending she has a dentist’s appointment, and goes to meet up with the fake alcoholic that Camilo planted in AA to gain her trust. She tells Camilo's mole about Yago and the importance this friend has had in her life, ever since she lost her family due to her addiction. The fake alcoholic jokingly wishes he had a Yago in his life too.

Lucio visits Yago and asks him to be a come-with guy. As they drive to some unknown destination, Lucio sings the cuckold blues while Yago tries to convince him that his doubts over Sara’s fidelity are unfounded.

At Casa Guerrero, Melina shows her husband a cup that Lucio made for them when he was a kid. He pretended that he accidentally dropped the identical cup that Omar had made for his parents, then he went ahead and made them this one, to supposedly compensate them for Omar's cup that he broke. Jonás feels it was considerate of Lucio. Melina believes it wasn’t a kind gesture, it was pure envy. Lucio always felt envious of Omar and everything Omar had. Jonás chalks it down to children competing with one another. Nothing out of this world, really.

Back at Casa Sarquis, Sonia the housekeeper informs Sara that Ámbar left the house with a suitcase in hand.

Lucio was actually taking Yago to the equestrian club (club hípico), where he believes his wife’s lover is. Based on the phone calls Sara made from her cell, Lucio concluded that Rafael, a riding instructor, is the man boinking his wife. Yago tries to dissuade Lucio from committing a folly. However, Lucio drives off in pursuit of Rafael, leaving Yago behind.

Matías is mad at his mom because his aunt left the house.

Ámbar asks Julia to let her stay at her house for a few days.

Yago is running around the equestrian club looking for Lucio. Teo is on the phone explaining to him that Lucio asked Abel to hack into Sara’s phone. Not to worry though, Teo ensured that Yago’s calls and messages were erased.

The fake alcoholic drops Katia at her place (Yago’s lair?) and asks her when she’ll introduce him to Yago. Teo sees them on CCTV.

Yago finally finds Lucio. He is torturing Rafael in the stables and is about to shoot him. Rafael is so terrified, he confesses to being Sara’s lover.

Julia apologizes but she can’t let Ámbar stay at her place, because it’s actually her father’s house. Not that her dad is a bad man, it’s just that he had a business partner and friend who betrayed him and who is now his mortal enemy. This ex-partner is a dangerous mafioso who has just been released from prison. As a result, things are very tense at home for the Michells. This is why Ámbar can’t couchsurf in Julia’s mansion at the moment.

Yago demands that Lucio stop torturing Rafael. Can’t Lucio see that the poor man is willing to admit to anything, just to save his neck? Lucio accuses Yago of being Sara’s lover. It’s the only explanation he can find, given Yago’s insistence that Rafael is innocent. Besides, ever since Yago showed up, Sara has been acting weird. Lucio’s gun is now pointed at Yago, who maintains that Sara and him are just friends and that he is only interested in Ámbar. Yago wants Lucio to let Rafael go because he doesn’t want his business partner to wind up in jail; that’s all. Lucio wants proof: He demands that Yago punch Rafael in the face. Yago complies with such zeal that Lucio is convinced of his innocence. He warns Rafael one last time to stay away from Sara or else.

Teo confronts Katia about her going back to the AA meetings. Apparently, Fidel had prohibited that she do it. Her sharing details of her personal life with so many strangers was considered too risky. Teo assures her that he is not spying on her or reporting her every move to Fidel; he is just worried about her. Katia breaks down in tears: There are days where she can’t beat her demons on her own. Teo tells her she is not on her own. She can lean on him for support. Long story short, these two and their demons end up having a raucous session of slap-and-tickle.

Rafael turns out to be just an actor that Lucio hired to test Yago, whom he suspected of being Sara’s lover. However, judging from Yago’s reaction, Lucio is convinced that Sara is boinking somebody else. Later on, Sara calls her husband to notify him that she is taking Mati to see Melina and Jonás. Lucio demands to know where she will be once she drops their son at Casa Guerrero. She ignores his question.

Post-nookie, Katia grabs her clothes and leaves. See you around, Baldy! Not if I see you first, Bouffy! Awkwarrrd!

Teo goes to Abel’s crib to talk about his boss’s plans to leave Mexico, in light of the casino’s prolonged closure. Teo doesn’t buy Abel's official party line and wants to know what’s up. Lorenzo is eavesdropping in the stairwell and makes a noise that alerts Teo. Abel is quick in pushing Teo out the front door. Nevertheless, Teo smells a rat.

Melina and Yago meet up at their usual church. Melina admits that, now that she has had a chance to think things over, she is convinced that Lucio is a bad person who has done their family a lot of harm. However, she has her doubts about Abel. Yago doesn’t; he confirmed Abel’s involvement in Omar’s betrayal. Melina doesn’t agree with Yago’s revenge plans. Revenge doesn’t achieve anything. Besides, she is afraid to lose her son again if he goes too far down this destructive path. Why won’t he just go to the police? Yago no longer believes in the system that condemned an innocent Omar to death.

Lucio visits Casa Guerrero and learns that his wife dropped Mati off and left. Melina is curt with him and he asks her why she seems mad at him. Did he do something that upset her? Did she argue with Sara? He apologizes for having to take Mati away but, after what happened recently, he is nervous about his son’s safety. Melina raises her voice: The Guerreros may not have Lucio’s money but Mati will always be safe in their house. Jonás witnesses this exchange and apologizes for Melina’s bad temper.

Fresh out of Yago’s bed, Sara gets dressed. She tells her lover that it was imprudent to see each other today, given Lucio’s suspicions. She is worried because she knows what Lucio is capable of, especially when he becomes obsessed with something. Yago asks her to leave Lucio. She says she can’t because she fears that Lucio will take away her kid. Yago has an idea that would help her get sole custody of Mati.

Back at Casa Guerrero, Jonás wants to know why Melina treated Lucio so badly. She calls Lucio and Sara scorpions and feels sorry that poor Mati is stuck with them. Jonás doesn’t understand Melina’s sudden hostility towards Lucio. She prefers to stop talking about this subject.

On her way out, Sara nearly gets caught by Ámbar, who showed up at Yago’s door, looking for a place to stay. Yago invites her in and tells her to make herself at home, then he sneaks Sara out of the house. He accompanies her outside and she has a mini-snit about Ámbar staying at her lover’s place. Yago reassures Sara that, very soon, they will no longer have to hide. They kiss as Abel’s SUV pulls over. Abel smiles and waves at them. Busted!

A quote from the capítulo

“La curiosidad mató al gato, pero el gato reencarnó en periodista. El problema es que nosotros no tenemos siete vidas.”*

*Bruno talks about the day that inspired his journalistic passion as well as curiosity: “Curiosity killed the cat, but the cat was reincarnated as a journalist. The problem is that we (journalists) don’t have seven lives.”

Your viewing vocabulario
(these definitions are context-specific, unless otherwise indicated)

alzar la voz = to raise one’s voice.
el gabacho = In Spain, “el gabacho” is France and “gabacho” is a fairly pejorative adjective to say French, kind of like “froggy” is used in Britain as a sarcastic way to designate the French. In Mexico, “el gabacho” is the US, though it is not offensive. Like the words “gringo” or “gringolandia”, depending on the way they are said/used, they can either be proper or improper.
holgazán = lazy, idle. Can be used both as an adjective or as a noun. Abel asked Lorenzo to stop being un holgazán, i.e. an idler, a lazybones.
debilucho(a) = weak, wimpy.
anzuelo = a bait.
despojar = to strip, to deprive, to dispossess, to deprive.
ablandarse = to soften up.
el club hípico = the equestrian club.

Hello Patio Pals! Hope all is well with you. Julie and I switched nights but she'll be back next Monday, as usual.

This was an eventful episode with plenty of action, especially the amorous kind. As an unashamed fan of Abel, I was glad he busted Yago and Sara! Tee hee

Enjoy the recap and the discussion! Catch you later! :)

P.S. Yago will not air tonight (Tuesday June 21) and tomorrow night (Wednesday June 22). *Heaps and heaps of expletives directed at Loonyvision*

Thanks so much, Nandicta! I can't believe we have to wait until Thursday to find out what happens next! Arrrgggg!! How will Yago and Sara convince Abel to keep his mouth shut? This really is paralleling the past when Sara teamed up with Lucio to betray her man Omar, they got found out by Abel, and then had to convince him to keep quiet and join in their plans. Lucio and Omar/Yago have switched places (except Lucio isn't clueless about Sara's true nature). Last time it was Abel's sticky situation with the gang boss whose car he messed up that led him to team up with Sara and Lucio. I think this time Yago will find a way to use Lorenzo's existence or fake death to twist his arm. Or Abel will blackmail Yago-- his silence about the affair, in exchange for awesome job in the States or a huge payout to be able to live like a prince in the States. Yago has gotten himself in a mess, as he tries to entrap his enemies. How's he going to avoid sleeping with Ambar when she's under the same roof? He needs to break up with her already.

Knowing full well that Fidel's kids were murdered, Yago sure did intend to twist the knife when he told Fidel he knew nothing about having kids. Did you notice how Fidel's hand started to shake?

I'm hopeful that just like Melina, now that the seed about Lucio is planted in Bruno's mind, he'll start to open his eyes and question things about his "brother". I get where's coming from about being loyal to family. He feels that Omar was framed, betrayed and then abandoned by his family (namely Jonas) who lost faith in him, and he doesn't want to do the same thing to Lucio.

I hope Katia and Teo can get past the awkwardness of their airing of the demons boink, and actually become friends.

Hello all! Please tell me where in the heck is Yago going next week?

I have Directv and I heard it's going to UniMas or something. I don't think I have that channel (either available or on Directv).

If anyone has that provider, please help (or an alternate way of watching).

Thanks!

Kendra- As of next Monday Yago moves to Unimas at midnight. I don't have Hulu, but a quick glance there shows that they do have Unimas shows available, so that's a good sign that Yago will continue to be on Hulu. Perhaps someone with a Hulu subscription can give more accurate advice. Check around your tv lineup to see if you have Unimas. You might be surprised.

Bold Prediction: Abel will run his mouth to Lucio, who will go completely psycho on Yago & Sara over their escapade.

I'm also predicting Ambar will go beastmode on Yago & Sara too!

OMG, thank you so much for this, Nandicta. I fell asleep during Ana and didn't get up early enough today to watch my recording. (It's a good thing you were on recapping duty instead of me.) At least I have something to look forward to for tonight.

Thanks for translating the quote about the cat being reincarnated as a journalist. What's that about journalists not having seven lives? Aren't cats supposed to have nine lives?

I'm so glad that Katia and Teo have found a way to ease their tension. ;-)

So is Bruno seriously comparing what happened between himself and Ale to what happened between Omar and Sara? Because there is a huuuuuge difference between Alejandra and Sara. Alejandra is looking for the truth.

Fidel reminds me of Darth Sidious, nagging young Jedi Yago about turning to the Dark Side. Let's hope Yago is smarter than Anakin. I don't think he needed to punch Rafael in the face. I'm glad it convinced Lucio, but I think Lucio needs a crash course in critical thinking if he believes that Yago's punching Rafael is proof of anything.

The story about Lucio and the broken cup is CLASSIC LUCIO.

It's a shame that Abel is such a mess. In another life he would have been a great father.

I wonder if Mati will ever get around to mentioning (or if his parents will ever ask) that he stayed with two different sets of kidnappers (proving that Damian was telling the truth after all). I know he was blindfolded, but there's a big difference between kept on a soft bed and spoken to by a nice lady, and being tied to a hard chair and barked at by a thug.

I know one way Yago might get out of sleeping with Ambar. He can claim concern about her heart condition. I know it didn't work before, but he'll have time (at least a few hours, LOL) to come up with some better strategies.

Julie- I took what Bruno said as more comparing Omar to Lucio and judging him unfairly without proof or any reason to distrust him. I don't think he was calling Ale a version of Sara.

Julie- The cat has seven lives in Italy, Spain, and therefor LatAm countries. In countries that have an Anglo foundation, it's nine lives. Seven is/was a lucky number in many cultures and that's why it was attributed to the cat.

And as for the origins of the 9 lives of cats: "Nine, a trinity of trinities, is a mystical number often invoked in religion and folklore. The cat was once revered in Egypt, and this is probably where its nine lives began. The priesthood in On - known to the Greeks as Heliopolis and now a suburb of Cairo - worshipped Atum-Ra, a sun god who gave life to the gods of air, moisture, earth and sky, who, in turn, produced Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nephthys. These gods are collectively known as the Ennead, or the Nine. Atum-Ra, who took the form of a cat for visits to the underworld, embodied nine lives in one creator."

tasty little snack Nandicta and thank you for it

How convenient the baddest of bad guys has to be Lucio. I've heard no one but Melina speak as disparaging about Sara. Yago is a lovesick fool and bet he's thinking happy little home with Sara and the kid. I wonder if there is anything she will do to Yago to wake him up.

I really want to like Bruno but the seesaw courtship is beginning to sour me. Really concerned about Ale's investigation so hope they can come together as a team. Ale is not Sara and Bruno is gonna lose her. My favorite character, smart, cute, no criminal past or hangups and fearless.

Thanks for the numeric trivia, Vivi. Seven is a lucky number in US culture too, so I always wondered where the nine lives came from.

In fact, I rarely hear nine touted as lucky or even special regarding anything besides cats. (Just the other day, no lie, I was thinking about the rhyme of St Ives, I don't know why, but everything is multiples of seven in that one. Including the cats and the kittens.) Not that I would wish cats two fewer lives - their time with us is short enough with the full nine. But it's funny that the nine trickled down for cats' lives but not much else. It makes more sense with the Egyptian connection, though.

Julie- I find this stuff fascinating. Arab and Muslim countries also say 7 lives, because 7 is a lucky/mystical number. But the trinity of trinities (3 x 3) thing makes sense for Christian countries, even though 7 is a lucky number in those countries as well.

Thanks Vivi, looks like it's available west coast only. Funny that I get west coast on most channels but not that one or I will need to start keeping up with the recaps. That's not so bad but ugh!

Thanks Nandicta!!! Always love the vocab

I'm with Lucio about Ambar and Sara taking out Matias and then Sara leaving him alone with Melina and Jonas. None of the people involved with the kidnapping were put in jail. They are still out there. Just because they were paid off doesn't mean they wouldn't strike again. I'm surprised Lucio and Sara don't have Abel or a hired gun with them at all times now.

Does Yago know that Fidel's kids were murdered? Katia told him right? Is he playing dumb with Fidel because Fidel hasn't told him the truth? and he wanted to land a low blow?

Sara is the worst. Matias is back and she spends no time with him. She is betraying her sister, betraying her husband... and enjoying every minute of it. She gets high off of playing people. I can't wait for her to hit bottom.

I'm a bit confused about the whole Camillo thing. First, Yago asked Tomas to make life difficult for Lucio. Tomas had to have told Camillo about the request because he took it 10 steps further. After Yago meets Camillo and leaves, Camillo wants to find out if Yago is CIA or FBI. Does he think that CIA or FBI would ask Tomas to screw Lucio? Seems unlikely. But then we get this big jump. From Camillo not knowing anything about Yago, to now knowing about Katia and the fact that she is an alcoholic.

Also, why would Camillo keep the girl alive if it is Fidel's child. I believe he kept her alive because he knew that Fidel would come after him, and thinking she was Camillo's child Fidel would murder her. Thus Camillo gets the ultimate in revenge, Fidel murdering his own child. I can't imagine a man like Camillo loves her.

Yago is playing dumb with Fidel (Katia did tell him), and that comment about not having kids was a textbook passive-aggressive snipe. (Not that Fidel didn't deserve it.) By playing dumb Yago is not being any better than Fidel. He knows Fidel is hiding something. If Fidel refuses to level with him, that's a very bad sign; but making passive-aggressive comments doesn't improve his position or help him find out what is going on.

Carvivlie, I don't think Camilo ever knew anything about Yago regarding the loan shark. Yago paid the loan shark to encourage the loan shark's superiors to lean on Lucio, but Tomas didn't necessarily have to inform Camilo about the extra payment or the identity of the person who made it.

Yago didn't get on Camilo's radar until Yago showed up in his house as a friend of Julia's friend. (No doubt Camilo is as paranoid about Julia as Lucio is about Matias. And possibly for a similar reason, if she is in fact a stolen child.) Checking out Yago is how they found out about Katia. That probably wasn't difficult at all, considering she comes from a headline-worthy family.

"Does Yago know that Fidel's kids were murdered? Katia told him right? Is he playing dumb with Fidel because Fidel hasn't told him the truth? and he wanted to land a low blow?"

Carvivlie- Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

I am sure Tomas never told Camilo about Yago or the extra money he was getting from him to make things harder on Lucio. He probably just told Camilo that Lucio was a special case, who both had access to a lot of money, and required extra vigilance. And all it took was for Lucio to be two days late on his payment, and BOOM! Camilo (with Tomas' blessing) came down on him full force with kidnapping and extortion.

And I don't think Camilo was serious about the CIA/FBI thing. I think what he meant was that even if this guy is under the deepest of covers, for the most powerful government in the world, I STILL want you to find out everything there is to know about him.

Carvivile: Let's see if Fidel does kill Julia (more likely), then he finds out she was his bio kid, which will devastate him.

Camilo would love to see Fidel implode even deeper.

Yeah, Camilo actually said FBI and KGB. There's very little risk that Yago's KGB - the KGB was disbanded 25 years ago. Yago's too young!

Thanks Everyone!!! With all of the breaks in episodes I'm having a hard time remembering details.

Abel asked Ambar what I wanted to know: if you're so unhappy living with Sara & Lucio, why don't you leave? Now Abel took it one step further and asked why she just doesn't leave Mexico. Ambar doesn't have to leave the country but if she's so unhappy living with Sara & Lucio, then she needs to leave.

I guess this was just a plot point but why didn't Ambar make Yago's place her first stop (but if she did she would've busted Yago & Sara)?

Furthermore, why is Ambar trying to crash at Julia & Yago's places? Why not get a small apartment or hotel room to stay at?

Sara enjoys Ambar as long as Ambar is a little girl but at the same time Sara resents having to be grimy to prop up Princess Ambar.

It's time for Ambar to stand on her own. Ambar doesn't need to know all the crimes Damian, Sara & Lucio have committed in her name, but she does need to go.

Thanks for all the great recaps. I'm having a harder time understanding this show compared to others. I can't get Spanish subtitles for it, but I think it's just the nature of the show that makes it a little darker and less clear. Appreciate everyone's time in putting these together!

9 is the lucky number in China as well. What's wrong with 4? Poor four. No luck or respect or chance at all. I think Abel is the four of this show. (Sara is a professional con artist. She'll come up with something to explain why she's "pretending" to be with Yago, so Abel can't blackmail them).

Kelly

I think Ambar hesitates to get a place of her own because she works internationally. Why pay for a "permanent place" you hardly ever get to stay. However, if she's so intent to stay local and be with Yago and take a local job then there's really no reason not to get a local place now, too. She's obviously being way too optimistic about Yago's affection.

BUT I don't know how long it takes to find a good apartment in Mexico City. I know it's not a quick thing in some places.

But I do understand why she went to Julia before going to Yago. (Besides plot convenience.) She didn't want to force the relationship issue with Yago as long as she had a convenient and sensible alternative, and no excuse not to try that first.

Personally, I would see a hotel as a convenient next alternative, but Ambar is hot for Yago so I think she ran out of ideas a little quicker than she should have. (Maybe she will take the hint when he puts some blankets and a pillow on the sofa.)

"Sara resents having to be grimy to prop up Princess Ambar" - I disagree. Sara never misses a chance to be grimy. It's been very convenient for her to tell herself that she did the heist for Ambar. It is true that Ambar was the leverage that Damian used to get her to agree, but Sara hasn't stopped being grimy since then. And she seems to be getting annoyed with Ambar now that Ambar is catching on to her game and not wanting to be Sara's excuse any more.

Off topic, if you do have UniMas and didn't see Mi Corazon Es Tuyo and want to, it started last night. The commercial said it would be on every weekday at 6pm. I really enjoyed it overall.

In any event, Sara is done putting Ambar first and is enjoying betraying her. Gosh I hope Yago realizes that.

Thanks so much Nandicta. I always enjoy your translations and often pick up such interesting cultural information from you. I guessed the meaning of el gabacho from context, but adding in the information about Spaniard's view of the French, and Mexico with US added such richness.

Ditto for the seven vs. nine lives discussion. Thanks Vivi for your input as well. This blog site is so wonderful.

Thanks to all who post for your humor and analysis as well. Just a delight.

Sara rolling around in the dirt and grime is what enables Ambar to live the princess lifestyle she's living. I think it would be perfectly normal for Sara to feel a bit of resentment that she rolls around in dirt while Ambar never had to, especially now that Ambar is back and trying to assert herself as a woman instead of the little girl Sara is used to dealing with.

Ambar didn't leave the house because she was upset with Sara. She's been upset with Sara for not telling her truths that she's really not entitled to know, but she's been perfectly content to stay in Sara's house. Ambar left because Lucio (rightly) barked at her for taking Matias out of the house without letting him know about it. She didn't like being held accountable by Lucio ...but she blames Sara for it.

So I'm glad Abel asked her why was she there if she's so dissatisfied .

Ambar left the first time she started to get a clue about how grimy Sara and her father were. But Matias was upset by her leaving and was then kidnapped. She has felt like she needed to leave for a while, and it's BOTH Sara and Lucio she doesn't feel comfortable being around anymore. I too would go to a girlfriend first before going to a new beau or even a hotel. I think a hotel would be my second step, if other family weren't nearby. But if my beau were super rich and hot like Yago, and lived in a big, swanky pad, I think I might try him second over the hotel too. She told both Julia and Yago that it was just for a few days while she found a permanent place. And no, her current work gig in Mexico isn't permanent. Once it's finished, she might be off to another country again. It could be very hard to find an apartment under those conditions when she can't sign a long-term lease.

the number 4 in China is definitely unlucky, because the spoken word for "4" sounds very, very similar to the spoken word for "death".

Tks Nandicta
All I can say about Hulu is ,I was watching Gran Hotal & at chapter 9, that was all. Said sth like my subscription didn't support that. What does $7.99 support? So I cancelled.
I now watch on daily motion, it's free.

In the US cats have 9 lives, in Mex only 7, don't deport kitties.

How does Daily Motion work? I went to that site and could hear the sound, but no video. Do you have to register first?

Are all capitulos there for Yago?

Watched Monday's night episode last night. I think Katia picked up on the AA guy asking to meet Yago.

I thought it was interesting that Julia told Ambar that her father was betrayed by a partner, someone like a brother to him. It's like Omar and Lucio are a replay of Fidel and Camillo, to a lesser extent. I don't think Lucio would have killed Omar's children and I'm not convinced he would have been able to murder him either.

Lucio couldn't have murdered Omar even if he'd wanted to. Lucio freezes under pressure, which should have been a clue to Yago (and us) that he was faking with Rafael.

BUT I think that if he wanted to have someone whacked he would have no qualms about arranging it. Whether or not he could do that to someone close to him, I bet we'll find out soon. But as far as we can tell he is driven by greed and there's no profit in whacking a kid.

We don't know how he feels about revenge because he hasn't been put in that position yet. (He's getting close, though.) Would he actually want blood, or would he settle for money?

But whatever went down between Fidel and Camilo had to have been huge (possibly a long-term betrayal) and it sounds like it was personal rather than business. Could Selma have something to do with it? Fidel seems certain that Julia isn't his... but that doesn't mean she can't be Selma's!

Julie- I'd add envy to the short list of the things that drive Lucio. Envy and greed/covetousness.

I must have signed up, I get e-mails from them.

Oh - envy. Definitely. He'd steal someone's kids (emotionally if not physically) rather than kill them!

Julie: On Julia's true biological parents: maybe Maury Povich can solve this once & for all.

You maybe right about Selma possibly being Julia's bio mom (due to the hair color of both women).

Thank you Vivi, Kendra, Steve, Julie, Tofie, Carvivlie, Anon207, Kelly, JudyB, GoBlue and Variopinta for taking the time to read and comment. I feel that my viewing experience is enhanced by reading all these interesting insights.

Thanks a bunch, Vivi! The information you shared about the lives a cat is supposed to have in different cultures was fascinating, indeed. For Arabs as well, a cat has 7 lives, while the French agree with the Anglo-saxons (for once) that a cat ought to have 9 lives. You would think that Egyptians would adopt the Pharaonic myth of 9-lived cats but no, they decided to stick with 7.

As for your analysis of the show, I was particularly intrigued by the parallel you drew between Lucio's betrayal of Omar and Yago's "betrayal" of Lucio. Fidel did mention that Lucio should be paid with the same currency hence the insistence on sending him to jail for a spell but my thinking didn't go beyond what I heard in that scene. That's why I enjoyed the fact that you elaborated on that thought and outlined the similarities between the two betrayals. And while we are talking about similarities, Julie was right in mentioning that Bruno (unjustly) compared Alejandra to Sara in this episode. He did it right after he broke up with her, because he accused her of lying to him then thinks to himself on his way out that he should've learnt from Omar's story and never trusted her. His hesitance to commit to Alejandra in the past was due to intangible mistrust but in this episode, Bruno felt that Alejandra betrayed by going after a member of his family. Little does he know that his surrogate brother, slimy Lucio, is one of the principal architects of the Guerrero family's tragedy.

Julie, thank you for reminding us of the details surrounding Camilo and his interest in Yago. Your comparison of Fidel with Darth Sidious was great, though I must admit that I have a huge soft spot for Fidel. Yes, we don't know yet what he did to Camilo to warrant such mortal hatred and yes Fidel is manipulating Omar/Yago into unwittingly carrying out Fidel's own revenge, but can we blame the guy? Fidel's tragedy was way worse than Omar's. I am not a mother (yet) but just the mere thought of somebody harming my imaginary children could turn me into a sanguinary beast. My father once told me: "Nobody knows what a monster lies inside a man until that man's family is harmed". Whatever Fidel did to Camilo does not justify his murdering three small kids. Just remembering that burial scene with those little coffins fills me with sadness.

"It's a shame that Abel is such a mess. In another life he would have been a great father." There is a lot of goodness in Abel but he is a tragic hero who won't escape his faith. I have this hunch that he would die protecting Lorenzo. Or maybe this is how I would like him to redeem himself for his sins.

Tofie, I agree that Melina is the only Guerrero that has openly expressed her dislike of Sara. What I find odd is that the Guerreros should've kept their distance from Lucio purely for the fact that he married the woman who sent their son to jail (and to his death). I need to see a flashback where a member of the Guerrero family is chewing Lucio out for shacking up with Slimy Sara.

Alejandra is one of my favorites too but the girl needs to start putting her safety first.

Carvivlie, despite the fact that Lucio had his psychotic baby face on, he was not overreacting about Mati and he was spot on when he told Sara she needs to be more attentive to her family. "Sara is the worst. Matias is back and she spends no time with him. She is betraying her sister, betraying her husband... and enjoying every minute of it. She gets high off of playing people. I can't wait for her to hit bottom." Thanks for this, it was spot on! Sara has zero redeeming qualities and the actress is doing a great job in portraying this selfish, cold, cruel and manipulative villana.

Kelly, a warm welcome to our Yago patio! Always a pleasure to have new voices join the fun. Thank you for adding more info to the discussion about cat lives and lucky numbers.

JudyB, I heard "el gabacho" in another show and I too understood it as "the other side" or "up North" from the context but it was interesting to learn that it is a term that originates in Spain, the adjective "gabacho(a)" referring to people or things originating from the Pyrenean villages. Then the term started to refer to the people beyond the Pyrenees, in a rather pejorative way, then Mexicans and Chicanos adopted it as an alternative to "gringo", not necessarily pejorative, to refer to English-speaking, non-Hispanic people and/or places.

GoBlue, Dailymotion is just like Youtube, a video hosting site. No need for you to sign up.

Variopinta, this was a hoot: "In the US cats have 9 lives, in Mex only 7, don't deport kitties." :D

Thanks, Nandicta. I didn't see this episode, but wow a lot happened and your recap sizzled in the retelling.

Nobody in Omar's clan likes Sara, but they're too old school not to be polite to her. I remember when Matias visited and they clearly tolerated her for his sake. They pity Lucio for taking up with her.

Hope Bruno and Ale get back together and sleuthing. I get Ale's thrill at uncovering a mystery, but she knows Bruno has trust issues and should've told him what she was up to even if he didn't like it. Better to argue than to cover stuff up.

Yago better think of a good reason to send Ambar packing.

Thank you, Niecie. It was indeed an evenful episode and I hope you get a chance to see it soon.

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall either Melina or her husband saying that they felt sorry for Lucio for being stuck with Sara. I think it was during the first visit we saw Mati pay the Guerrero couple. Still, I feel that the writers owe me a flashback scene where Lucio gets flak from Omar's parents for shacking up with and "impregnating" Sara so soon after Omar's imprisonment.

"Yago better think of a good reason to send Ambar packing." Indeed! Either start remodelling his lair or have Katia move in with him!
