New Telenovelas/Series Coming to Univision- Aug/Sept 2016

Hola Amigos!

Here’s an update on some changes coming in the next few weeks to Univision’s lineup, if you haven’t already seen the ads. Three new shows are coming our way. Two of them are not so new, as one is a popular telenovela that aired in Mexico in 2014, and the other already aired as a Netflix series last year. Keep in mind that Univision has been known to change its mind often, and last minute. No word yet on if Uni still plans to split Tres Veces Ana into 2 seasons (temporadas), but it seems they don't. If you would like to recap any of these new shows, please let Blog Mom/Jane/Melinama know.  Let’s go in order of Univision start dates…

Narcos
Start Date and Time Slot: August 22nd, 10pm, replacing the 2nd hour of Tres Veces Ana for 2 weeks
Promo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSuaRDVjpJg
Additional Info: This is a 10 episode Netflix series that premiered last year. The second season will premiere on Netflix September 2nd. Here’s a NYT article on what a big deal this Netflix-Univision collaboration is: Netflix’s ‘Narcos’ to Appear on Univision

Plot Summary: Set and filmed in Colombia, Season 1 tells the story of notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, who became a billionaire through the production and distribution of cocaine, while also focusing on Escobar's interactions with drug lords, DEA agents, and various opposition entities.

Despertar Contigo (Waking Up With You)
Start Date and Time Slot: August 30th, 8pm, replacing Un Camino Hacia el Destino
Protagonists: Daniel Arenas (La Gata) and Ela Velden (Muchacha Italiana)
Producer: Pedro Damián (Muchacha Italiana)
Promo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKk7F8Klc3Q

Plot Summary: Pablo Herminio (Daniel Arenas) is a hard-working bodyguard, who is the breadwinner for his family. He has been in a relationship with the sexy mechanic Cindy, for five years. Although they both know the love has grown cold between them (however, not the sheets) Cindy is pressuring Pablo to get married, in order to finally inherit her father’s mechanic business. Maia Alcalá (Ela Velden) is a rich and refined young woman, with a heart of gold. She has dedicated her life to helping others, especially children in need, much to the displeasure of her flower-business-mogul father, Othón Alcalá, who would have preferred a son with a head for business. Instead, he’s fixated on marrying off Maia to a rich and influential man who can take over the business—namely, Federico Villegas. His plans will be thwarted when Maia meets Pablo, and their romance is aided by Pablo’s boss, Antonia Santamaría, Othón’s old flame and current nemesis.

- - -
El Color de la Pasión (The Color of Passion)
Start Date and Time Slot: September 6th, 10pm, replacing Narcos
Protagonists: Esmeralda Pimentel (La Vecina; Abismo de Pasión), Erick Elías (El Hotel de los Secretos)
Producer: Roberto Gómez Fernández (El Hotel de los Secretos; Cachito de Cielo; Para Volver a Amar)
Promos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQZBlOdNy9U

Plot: The story of three sisters who live in Puebla. Adriana (Ariadne Díaz), the eldest, is married to Alonso (Horacio Pancheri/ René Strickler), and her two sisters live with them. Magdalena (Ana Isabel Torre/ Eugenia Cauduro), the middle sister, joins a convent after her fiancé disappears on her wedding day.  Rebeca (Michelle Renaud/ Claudia Ramírez), the youngest, hides her love for Alonso and her hate for Adriana. Adriana suffers a terrible accident and only her baby Lucia survives.  Rebeca takes advantage of the situation and marries Alonso, but the relationship is unhappy. They have a daughter together, Nora (Ximena Romo), who has the same envious hate for her sister Lucia (Esmeralda Pimentel), as her mother had for Lucia’s mother.  As time passes, a grown up Lucia finds the potential for true love with Marcelo (Erick Elías), but secrets threaten to keep them apart.

Gracias Vivi

I watched Narcos. It was a great and wonderful show but I don't see the point of it being on Univision. For it's violence it's more suited on Telemundo alongside El Senor De Los Cielos &Senora Acero. If someone recaps it though it would be amazing as it only has 10 episodes. I won't be able due to school approaching soon. Plus there are most likely recaps for it eitherway. Although it would be the first time the blog would recap an Netflix exclusive.

Out of all this I helieve there might be most interest for El Color than anything else.

Ela Valden( Gianna from Muchacha Italiana) is always nice but I can't stand Daniel Arenas. I might just watch it for her. But unlike Osorio Pedro Damian does know how to make his shows fun and likable without turning the character into a ceaspool.

the characters into a ceaspool*

I can't keep up with a lot of the shows anymore....I can barely keep up with one lately thanks to work, but darn, could we not have Erick and Ela in one together? Then I would be a happy camper and watch with glee. I'm actually getting tired of Michelle Renaud and playing a not so nice character? I'm more apt to try that TN because of Erick then the one with Ela. I'm not an Arenas fan either, he looks too old for the part in the coming attractions, and I thought Muchacho was a mess plot wise...but one of those you watched to see how much worse it could get? Not sure I want to see another show by the same producer.

Just not into Narc shows, especially at the 10:00 hour for me. Pass thanks.

Daisynjay- Michelle is just in the first part of the tn, before the time jump, and she actually got kudos for playing the young version of the villainess.

Oh, and I agree. Daniel Arenas seems too old for Ela to me too.

I'll pass, too, at least for the moment. I can't stand Esmeralda Pimentel and narco stories aren't my cup of tea.

I refuse to watch anything narco-based so I'll skip that one. I love Erick Elias so maybe I'll give that a go, although I'll have to watch it the next day.

I've added the promos for each show, and I have to say I'm loving the theme song for Despertar Contigo.

I'll pass on most of these, because normally just one TN at a time is enough for me, and I'm liking TVA more than I thought I would. Also (rather ironically), what Uni did to Yago pretty much forced me to get Hulu (I tell myself), and now I've got a lot more stuff to watch.

However, I might give Narcos a shot.

Good to know Vivi. Thanks. I'm on Michelle burnout I guess.

Thanks, Vivi, for giving us the latest news. It is appreciated.

Vivi, thank you so much for the info on what's coming on Univision. Your summary on El Color de la Pasión is perfect, I've seen some very spoilery summaries out there but yours lets us know what the story is about without giving it away. I suggest using again it if there's a post about the show before it begins.

Michelle hasn't actually been on so many novelas almost back to back, just La Sombra del Pasado and Pasión y Poder. El Color de la Pasión is from early 2014. I thought Univision would end up giving it an afternoon slot but they might have been smart to keep it on the shelf since the current telenovelas from Televisa have been seriously dissapointing.

Jarocha

Oh, my, my. How could I not watch El Color de la Pasion? It has almost everybody from Un Camino Hacia el Destino in it (at least for awhile) and Erik and a privilege to see Helena Rojo work again. I have only seen her in Amor Real and El Privilegio de Amar and loved her roles--and her voice.

It will also be very odd to watch Horacio Pancheri grow up to be Rene Stickler. He is just finishing up in Un Camino as Rene's stepson--and they did NOT get along and that's putting it mildly.

Julie--I didn't watch Yago...still hope to on OnDemand, but I've been keeping my nose to the asphalt in Un Camino for many months hosting the Main Page. I remember when they showed La Verdad Oculta at midnight. Thank goodness I had a VHS recorder and faithfully recorded the episodes. It was such a good production. Why on earth did they think Rosa de Guadalupe would do better than Sueno at 7 pm? Or are they just using Rosa as a place holder until another telenovela is ready?

Thanks, Vivi, for the previews. I've been recovering from knee surgery the past three months and didn't think I could take any of the current offerings. Maybe I'll try one of the two non-narco ones.

Thanks Vivi. Appreciate the information. I'll probably record el Color and watch it the next day. I figure I have to watch and hear Spanish every day in some form in order to keep on inching towards some kind of competence in the language. Have had a few conversations en español on the telephone lately which is a biggie for me. So watching these telenovelas really does help. (just can't bear to "study" the language in the conventional way)

I'll try El Color, but can't promise I'll stick with it. Historically I will bail if I don't like one of the leads and I did bail on Tierra de Pasiones because I can't stand Gabriela Spanic. After CS 09 I won't watch anything with Aracely Arambula.

JudyB, foreign language is so poorly taught in this country I don't blame you!

I have to admit, part of Narcos appeal to me is that it's already completed its first run, so I'm fairly sure that it's not terrible. Also, unlike Color de Pasion which I might consider if I weren't already watching something else, Narcos is really short. With the compactness of Hotel and Yago, contrasted with the frustrating sprawl of TVA, I have a renewed appreciation for shows that are just the right length to tell their story.

Jarocha- Good to see you! Yes, most of the synopsis for 'Color de la Pasion' that I found had WAY too much info, so I summarized and made things as vague as possible. I am shocked that after two years Uni finally decided to show it, and to show it during prime time. There was so much good buzz about this two years ago that I'm sure a good deal of the targeted US audience has already tracked it down and watched it somewhere online. Let's hope they don't play the same kind of scheduling games as they did with Yago in that slot.

Anita- Yes, lots of familiar faces in 'Color'. I'm sure it will be weird for you 'Camino' folks to go from seeing Horacio and Rene playing enemies, to playing the same person! Of course in Mexico, it was the reverse order.

Countx- Sounds like you're going to be watching Season 2 of Narcos when it starts in a few weeks. I like most of Netflix's original content, but like Julia, I have low tolerance for narco-novelas.

Julie, JudyB, and Urban- I think I'll give Color and Despertar a week each to see if they grab me. I think I have to at least watch the opening credits of Despertar each evening so that I can hear Carlos Vives summoning me to dance with the theme song. Or I might just download it on iTunes. :)

La Paloma- It's so good to see you back! I hope you are recovering well from your surgery.

Jarifa- You're welcome. Hope it was helpful.

Vivi ,I have the intention of watching it but I don't know if I will have the time due to school starting once again( It's going to be busy as Hell this year.) Currently I am watching Yago and La Esclava Blanca but I also plan to watch Mujeres de Negro, Vino El Amor, Despertar and La Candidata when they come out. I guess I will stick to Mujeres&El Vino and later La Candidata. Jesus Christ please help me with all these temptations for I know notif I would be able to resist!

Thanks for this, Vivi!

I've been interested in watching ECDLP ever since YNCELH aired in the US. So we'll see if it's good.

I agree with you Vivi that the only thing that grabbed my attention from the previews of Despertar Contigo was the theme song. I'm not really a Daniel Arenas fan though so I think I'll pass on this one. He was okay in Teresa but that's the only telenovela I've seen him in. I used to watch the telenovelas in that time slot but I haven't been for a while now so that alone kinda prevents me from watching it.

I'm hoping 3VA will start picking up the pace a bit and get more exciting but I sm determined to wait patiently.

Does anyone know when Yago is due to end? I have to keep to a two-novela limit if I'm going to get anything else done, and already have Silvana sin Lana and Yago. 'Color' sounds interesting though, and Erick was good in El Hotel. And I'd like to give Rene Strickler another chance after that Corazon Indomable fiasco.

Kelly

Kelly- Yago is supposed to be around 70 episodes (give or take). Since Unimas is only showing 4 episodes a week, that means we still have about a month to go before it ends.

Kelly- Just double checked. Yago is 65 episodes. That means three more weeks of episodes.

Thanks, Vivi! Looks like there will be room to squeeze in "Color" (unless Telemundo finds something interesting, but doesn't look like it). Uni it is!

Kelly

Yago feels so slow when there are only 4 episodes shown each week! I thought we would be in the 60's already but we are yet at the 50's.
By luck Mujeres De Negro will only have 50 episodes so it would end quickly in 10 weeks. If only Yago had 2 hour episodes..

thanks so much, VIvi. I am not interested in Narcos..I get enough violence and despair from the nightly news, but I am going to try the other
two.

I noticed that UNi is showing AV in the afternoons. I discovered this while surfing before watching my new guilty pleasure..reruns of Renegade...LOrenzo Lamas in all his long haired, kung fu-ing glory...at the beach, dudes...with a giant, Native American sidekick named Bobby SIxkiller. Vintage TV...oh, and motorcycles and HUmvees.

Renegade? Really?? That's, like 20 years old at least, isn't it? Yes, I remember watching Lorenzo in that. :-)

Countx- Yago was also slowed down by the fact that Uni didn't show it at all on either channel for a few weeks before they decided what to do with it. This excellent series has been treated so shabbily by Univision!

That's another reason why I'm reluctant to commit to anything much longer than Narcos for a while. My faith in Uni is kinda shaky right now. :(

Vivi...what's the name of the theme song? He does a great song with Shakira called la Bicicleta.

Well, I think I've got it. Volvi a nacer. Really swings into a nice beat after a slow start.

Judy- Yep, that's it.

Volvi a Nacer lyrics:

Puedo no roncar por las mañana
Puedo trabajar de sol a sol
Puedo subirme hasta el Himalaya
O batirme con mi espada
Para no perder tu amor
Puedo ser, tu fiel, chófer, mujer
Todo lo que te imaginas puedo ser
Y es que por tu amor volvía a nacer
Tu fuiste la respiración
Y era tan grande la ilusión
Pero si te vas que voy a hacer
Planchar de nuevo el corazón
Se pone triste esta canción
Quiero casarme contigo
Quedarme a tu lado
Ser el bendecido con tu amor
Por eso yo quiero
Dejar mi pasado
Que vengas conmigo
Morirme en tus brazos dulce amor
Por eso yo quiero
Puedo boxear en las olimpiadas
Puedo mendigar por tu perdón
Puedo mudarme a la Castellana
Agua fría por las mañanas
Y alinear en el Unión...

Wow! The lyrics and everything. Terrific. Are you already singing it in the shower sweet lady?

:) Yes...How did you know, Judy?

Narcos is a show with an nice cast but it contains brutal violence like any other narco show. If it's going to be on Univision I would expect it to be scissored and censored. It's airing on the same channel as Sueno De Horror remember?

EL COLOR DE LA PASION is so, so, so good!
I wish they'd released it on DVD.

I have sent a request to Blog Mom to recap Narcos. If anyone wants to join be my guest. My plan is to first write drafts for the full, uncensored version just in case any scissoring occurs. I first thought that scissoring might occur but since it's Netflix we are talking about I doubt they would tolerate any nonsense from Loonyvision.

Way to go, Countx! Hopefully, you'll get others who will jump on board. With only 10 episodes, it should be a manageable lift.

Vivi, Thanks so much for putting this together. It's really difficult to know when a new novela starts if you don't watch live TV and are accustomed to watching via Hulu, YouTube, live streaming, etc. So I wanted to extend my thanks to you for keeping our community and me updated.

*I'm definitely in it for "El Color de la Pasión". Anything with Erick Elías! I didn't realize he was a great singer. Remembering him all the way back to "Zorro, La Espada y La Rosa"

*I can't stand narcos (with the exception of the amazing "Reina del Sur", which was so good........) so I'll definitely skip "Narcos". I had enough drug drama living in Cali, Colombia

*Daniel Arenas has gotten on my nerves in each of his novelas after Teresa, but I'll give "Despertar Contigo" a 2-week trial
Vivi Carlos Vives......"Volví a Nacer" was nominated and won several distinguished awards....check out his Wiki page.
Anita Your mention of "La Verdad Oculta" (MY FIRST NOVELA!) brought back such fond memories. Who would have guessed novelas would become addictive for me?

Vivi Thanks again for the update

Victoria- You're welcome. Ahh, yes. Those La Verdad Oculta days. That was a great tn to recap and a great comment group, but it was also treated shabbily by Uni, like Yago.

Carlos Vives has been one of my fave artists since the 90s. My iPod is already filled with a lot of his music. Every time I come across a song of his that I haven't heard before, it's a joy.

Thanks fot this Vivi! I too think I will give Color a chance. Not quite sure about Dan Arenas TN, but cerainly agree with all of you on the catchy song! Thanks for the name and lyrics, Judy and Vivi.

Ria- I hope some folks decide to recap Color. Looks like it would be a fun patio and lively discussion.

I think I'll repost this post this weekend, in case some folks missed it. Hopefully, some recappers come out of the woodwork.

I hope so too, Vivi! Excited to see many actors in that one. Unfortunately with it overlapping with Ana and my two recap nights, I am out for the count unless something changes with TVA and we do go on a break. For sure looking forward to discussions though!

Just saw that Color is on at 10 pm..yikes. I will have to record it because there is no way I can stay up that late since I will be getting up at 530 again now that fall is here.

Vivi--I am definitely going to be a watcher for Color. Volunteer to recap? Probably not. Since it's on so late, I fear it will be difficult to find enough recappers to fill out the week unless somehow we ourselves change the schedule (See Below) We've been waiting for it for a long time (since before PyP, I think).

Here's a suggestion--and something new for Caray--why don't we just concede the same day posting and write and post the recap a day late. In other words, those of us who will be watching the next day, might be more amenable to recapping regularly if we could post it late the next day. We'd always be a day late, but all the days would be covered.

In other words, the Monday episode showing at 10 pm, we'd watch the next day and post the recap on Tuesday night. Comments on Wednesday about the Tuesday episode. Wednesday night we post Tuesday's episode and so on.

Another option would be to do what Telemundo does with their telenovelas and post a Semi-Weekly Main Page and have it open for discussion and not always covered by regular recappers (although I see Silvana is pretty much getting covered, thanks to Novelera and Juanita).

Gracias Susalyyn! I can't promise that I will have time to watch El Color for long due to school starting to shake it's tentacles on me. Right now I can only dedicate time to Yago and now Narcos which will be a very short ride.

Susanlynn- I think will love this Outlander post: http://www.tvfanatic.com/slideshows/21-reasons-we-applaud-outlander-season-2/

Anita- What you propose for recapping the 10pm show is pretty much what we are doing for the midnight showing of Yago-- posting the recaps the following evening. Indeed, we have been waiting for Color for 2 years! All of its stars have been in tns that were filmed after Color and have already been shown here.

I'll be watching El Color De La Pasion!

Vivi I also intend to do that with Narcos. I already have the first episode ready. I might post the first episode at 3/4 PM but post the later episodes at nights so that it gets more comments. Although I doubt many will watch it since it can be a pretty violent show.

Vivi--since I haven't been watching Yago, I didn't know. Sounds good to me! I might volunteer to share a night with someone. Even once a week gets tough on old folks like me.

Too bad nothing really "funny" on the horizon.

I just read that Starz has bought rights from Televisa and is making its own (English language) remake of 'Teresa' about "an undocumented young Latina clawing her way into the exclusive world of Los Angeles wealth." This seems to be more common now-- U.S. English language networks remaking LatAm telenovelas for the U.S. market.

That sounds nice. Starz is behind Outlander, Black Sails and in the future American Gods. If the "Teresa" remake is good enough and it airs to Univision we could even recap it :)

Count- Given the lukewarm responses I've seen on this blog to the USA Network remake of Reina del Sur, I think this group prefers the LatAm versions. Then again, I really love Jane the Virgin...but I've never seen the original Juana la Virgen.

Vivi: I'm sooo going to enjoy watching Ximena Romo as the evil bad girl on El Color!

After watching Yo No Creo followed by El Hotel De Los Secretos followed by Yago, I got very spoiled with such great TNs. I won't be able to sit through the usual dreck that Uni has a habit of giving us.

So El Color De la Pasion is supposed to be a good one? I will give it a try too. I can't commit to recapping yet until i see how my schedule will be, but if I can, I can only do Friday's episodes. I will let you know if you still need someone for it.

Vivi,
My daughter got married in May and the first song she danced with her husband was "Quiero Casarme Con Tigo by Carlos Vives. It was a lot of fun, everyone sang along.
Sue in Miami

Vivi, actually the name of the song is "Volvi A Nacer" I always think it's Quiero Casarme con Tigo. Supposedly he wrote it because after his divorce, several years ago, he was very depressed and he finally met someone that changed his life and he started writing music and performing again. He was in hibernation for a few years.

Sue in Miami

Thanks , VIvi, for that Outlander site . IF you have not read the books, you are in for some big surprises in season three..grin ;-)

Please don't do what Anita suggested, the Telemundo once a week recap. Of you decide to go that route it would be wonderful if we could still have a Discussion bcc Page in order to get the comments rolling in.

Hi ViViDC:

**Thanks for the summary of El Color. Yep, this is my kind of novela drek. I will be watching it. I will be happy to recap for it as well. I prefer Friday's, but as long as it remains within the 1 hr. limit, any AM for expanded highlights, at least, can be managed.

I am like JudyB-having to immerse myself in noveladom in order to keep up my "ear"-- despite living and working with Spanish speaking folk and a myriad of "accents" and dialects bombarding me daily. "Use it or lose it" is my motto. Erick E. is a good actor if he's given the opportunity. He may be a good match with MA. And I left PyP because of the crummy casting for young couples and the stupid acting of all but the big stars. Too unbelievable. Why Uni leaves some of these on the shelf for years is a mystery to me. I hope for the best.

Jardinera- That's great if you can recap Color. Hopefully some other folks will also jump in to volunteer.

Vivi, thank you for the excellent introductions.

El Color de la Pasión is one I would love to watch but 10 is too late for me. Looks like a wonderful cast.

The 2 TNs I'm watching don't leave me time to watch Ana but as they are ending shortly, hope I can devote some time to that in the future.

Every mention of La Verdad Occulta makes me smile. What a wonderful TN which I enjoyed with you and many other recappers and commenters.

Thanks again Vivi.

Diana

I'm curious about Color too, but I'm not sure if I could help recap until I know what my schedule will be. If I do recap, I may have to take Thursdays. I already have Tuesdays for TVA, and like Jardinera I just hope we don't get any surprise 2-hour length surprises.

^I'm not sure why lately my identity goes away when I try to comment. So weird...

Anna- That's great to hear that you might be interested in recapping 'Color'. I might be interested in doing so as well, since Yago will be ending soon. Maybe within the next two weeks we'll have a full roster of people interested in recapping. There certainly seems to be a interest in watching it.

Diana- I too am trying to keep my tn watching to a minimum and right now I have two-- Yago and 3xAna. I think Color will be my Yago replacement, so I hope I don't like Despertando Contigo too much after the first week. Recently, I've found that it's easy for me to walk away from the lighter/earlier evening tns, although those patios look like a lot of fun (like the Camino patio). But I think the two tn limit is a wise one.

El Color sounds like one I will watch. The cast is full of people I enjoy (can't wait to see Carlos grow up to be Luis!) and the buzz is good. I'm not sure about volunteering to recap unless I find I like it (in which case I may volunteer because doing it for the first time with Camino turned out to be really great for helping me practice Spanish).

I am going to check out Despertar Contigo because I like the girl who was Doris on Yo No Creo and the theme song and when telenovelas are on the beach. We shall see if I stick with it. Two is my top limit for evening tns, and I tend to miss days if I'm watching two, because of real life. I usually have one I'm watching intently (Camino right now) and one I half-watch when I have a chance (Amor de Barrio right now), but since my shows are ending, I'm looking for the replacements.

dy77- I'm so glad you're planning to watch Color. Even better if you decide to take your second foray into recapping! Keep an open mind about it. I'm considering recapping it as well, since Yago is ending soon.

I am in for Color as well. I just jumped into the recapping waters along with Dy77 on Un Camino. It was great fun. If I like it I may be able to help with recapping. I plan to give Desperatar a try..but if it's lame like Sueno then I'll ditch it.

Thank you, Delilah. That's wonderful news!
