A Que No Me Dejas (AQNMD) #26. Monday October 17, 2016. Why Make Things Easier On Yourself When You Can Make Them Way Harder?

The birth of a Bridezilla
At a glance

-- Paulina is pregnant but she prefers to play the martyr instead of telling Adrián the whole truth.
-- Leonel proposes to Nuria. They each mistakenly think they have played the other one for a sucker. Suckers!
-- Someone please make Odette and her Skittles outfits disappear from Dejaslandia!

A closer look

Paulina learns she has a bun in the oven. She laughs nervously. What is she going to do? She has no money, no house, no job, no Adrián... No problem! Camilo Fonseca, the poster boy for the Mexican branch of “FA” (“Friendzoned Anonymous”) is here to pick up the slack.

At the nearly-defunct marketing agency of Jaime Córdova, Odette is badmouthing Paulina to Adrián. If he wants to truly forget Pau, he must remember how she humiliated him and rubbished his love in front of everyone! On his wedding day, no less! Moreover, everything he and his sister Julieta are going through right now is the Murats’ fault. What more does Adrián need to be convinced that Paulina is not the woman for him? Adrián would like to hate Paulina but he can’t. What he feels for her is stronger than him.

Chelo stormed out of the sign language class because she is hurt that Micaela doesn’t like her. She heard Mica’s talk with Beto in the kitchen. Mica assures Chelo that she has a lot of affection for her and that she does think she is a good woman for Beto. She just disagrees with the two young people getting romantically involved while working together. That’s what happend to Mica with Beto’s dad. He was the foreman of the ranch where she worked. He seduced her, she fell in love, but when he found out she was pregnant, he denied the baby and got her thrown out of her job. Beto is surprised because he had never heard this story before. However, he explains that he’s nothing like the man who sired him. His mother raised him to be a gentleman. Mica apologizes for letting her bad experience influence her judgment. She gives the relationship her blessing, as long as Chelo and Beto don’t neglect their duties at Casa Murat.

René returns home in tears. He calls his mom a liar. She is not his dad’s wife! His dad is married to the lady from the newspaper (Inés) and Pau is his sister. The Gonz walks in. René yells that he no longer wants to be his son. Mónica doesn’t know what to do. The Gonz believes that had she gone to Chetumal like he ordered, none of this would have happened. The kids need some distance to process the information they have just learned. Besides, Inés can’t find out about their existence before she dies. Mónica refuses to leave Puerto Esperanza before the end of the school year. The Gonz says he’ll talk to the kids and, depending on how they react, a decision will be taken. Sí me entiendes, ¿verdad? DRINK!

René and Alan lock themselves in their room. René tells Alan that they have two sisters: Paulina and a witch. They refuse to open the door to their father. Elisa thinks it’s best to leave them alone for now.

Paulina is freaking out by the sea promenade. She doesn’t know how to break the news to her mom and she can’t define her own feelings about being pregnant. However, she vows to take care of her baby no matter what. Camilo, ever the selfless gentleman, assures her that she is not alone and that he’ll always be there by her side.

In the evening, at Casa Fonseca, Alfonso recounts what happened earlier with René. Pau feels bad for her little brother.

At Casa Córdova, Jaime observes Odette, the human poison ivy, as she excitedly talks about her application to the same Masters degree program as Adrián. When Adrián goes to prepare coffee, Jaime asks her if she is interested in his brother-in-law. She is mad about him and she is prepared to do anything to bag him! Jaime doesn’t want to discourage her (desilusionar) but Adrián is still very much in love with Paulina. Odette is confident that away from here, all the way in Spain, and thanks to her clinging capabilities, she will make Adrián forget Paulina. Odette proclaims herself THE woman for the job. She asks Jaime to keep mum. Not a peep about this, especially not to his wife! Odette will figure out some lie to justify her absence. In the meantime, she doesn’t want Julieta to go all Julieta on her.

As Adrián makes coffee, he remembers preparing a cup of inedible joe for Paulina, way back when. She says she doesn’t like it and he jokingly adds his secret ingredient: Stardust. He bets her she’ll never leave him after she tastes his magical coffee. They share a passionate kiss to seal the deal. He returns to reality, thinking to himself that, in the end, Paulina did leave him.

At Casa Fonseca, Paulina is alone in her room pondering the baby news. Who would have thunk it? Both her brothers and her baby share the same fate. An absent father! Still, even though Adrián is not with her anymore, she gets to have this little baby that she’ll love as much as she has loved Adrián. The man lives across town, not in Timbuktu during the 1700s! You can pick up a phone, confess the truth about what happened at the wedding and tell him he’s going to be a father. Problem solved! But nooo! Saint Paulina relishes playing the martyr!

At Casa Murat, Inés fusses over the dinner preparations to receive Leonel while The Gonz is a reluctant participant. Leonel brings flowers and compliments for the lady of the house. He tries to act warm towards The Gonz but his attempts are met with curtness and cold stares. Gonzalo wants to know what Nuria and Leonel are up to. They announce that they have been dating for a while and would like to make their relationship formal. An elated Inés breaks out the champagne. A frowning Gonzalo barely suppresses his discontent.

Back at Casa Fonseca, Camilo brings Pau supper in bed. This boy is too kind for his own good. He reassures her that her pregnancy is their little secret and that he is here to support her in any way he can. Pau thanks him for always consoling her, protecting her and being there for her. “You are a great friend!” Those are the words every man in love wants to hear! After she finishes her supper, she asks for the file the investigator compiled about Mónica. Camilo mentions that he and Karen tried to stop Mónica and her children from going to Paulina’s wedding. The mention of Karen gives Pau the sads. She misses her best friend.

Back at the awkward dinner, Inés tries to make conversation while Gonzalo gives his guest the stink-eye. Leonel tells Inés that, ever since the divorce of his parents, his mom has been living in Mexico City and his dad up North. He seems nervous talking about his family. Nuria asks her mom to knock it off with the interrogation. This gives Leonel the opportunity to propose. Nuria agrees right away and decides they must get married in a month! The Gonz asks if there is a special reason for such haste. It would get rumors started. Inés thinks the newly-engaged couple ought to give thmselves time to get to know each other before tying the knot. Nuria, the self-appointed marriage expert, explains that getting to know each other is no guarantee of a blissful marital life. Some people get married as soon as they meet and they stay married for life. Others spend 5 years dating and end up divorced within their first year of marriage. Besides, Nuria has decided to get married next month and that’s that! She realizes that there is a risk but it’s a risk she is willing to take because Leonel is worth it.

In the kitchen, Chelo thinks it’s lovely to see a marriage proposal (pedida de mano). That Mr. Leonel is so romantic! she swoons. She wants Beto to ask her to be his girlfriend in a romantic way, like the galanes in the telenovelas.

Karen turns down Flavio’s invitation to go out. He doesn’t understand why she hasn’t gotten over Paulina yet.

After dinner, Nuria tells her fiancé she is excited about their wedding. Unlike her sister Pau, she will have a real wedding and it’s going to be the social affair of the year! Leo says he feels bad for not being able to give her the lifestyle she is accustomed to. Their honeymoon is going to have to be more modest. Nuria reminds him that she is very wealthy! She assures him that they will live like kings and have the most luxurious honeymoon! Leonel moves in for a kiss: “Well, if that’s what you want...”

Upstairs, Inés and Gonzalo discuss Nuria’s engagement. Inés realizes this is hasty but Nuria is stubborn and there is no way they can make her change her mind even if they wanted to. Hopefully, this marriage will keep Nuria occupied and she will stop sticking her nose in the lives of other people. The Gonz wants nookie. Not tonight, dear, Inés is tired. He insists. She yields.

Across town, Mónica cries as she remembers her child’s breakdown and her mother’s “I told you so!” Mónica no longer wants to believe Gonzalo’s lies or cling to the illusion that one day he, she and their kids can form a family. She prays that God give her the strength to forget Gonzalo. His love will end up killing her and destroying her loved ones.

Paulina reminisces about the tender moments she shared with Adrián. She doesn’t know when she fell pregnant but she knows bunnyhopping with him has always been spectacular. Adrián is also thinking about Paulina. He tells himself that he hates her but he can’t stop thinking about her. He misses her. Her smell, her skin, her everything.

Back at Chismosa Central, the kitchen of Casa Murat where the domestics are paid to laze about and gossip, Chelo confides to Mica that she noticed that Nuria has put on weight. She’d better start a diet if she wants to have a wasp waist (cinturita de avispa) on her wedding day! Mica warns Chelo to keep her mouth shut. Nuria would totally lose her rag if someone called her fat!

The next morning at Casa Murat, Inés talks to Dr. Julio Flores on the phone. Her analysis results say she has high blood pressure. She must keep an eye on it from now on. Nuria is glad her mom’s health is on the mend because her wedding will require painstaking preparation. Inés says she’ll have to get organized because, just like Paulina, she is now a volunteer at the clinic for the hearing impaired. Nuria mocks Paulina when she hears this. What use was her sister’s degree in tourism then? Inés says a university education is always useful. Bridezilla insists that her mom dedicate herself 100% to her wedding preparations. The Gonz also doesn’t see the need for volunteering at that clinic. Going to the sessions with Mauricio is more than enough. Inés stands firm and asks them to respect her decision.

Pau visits Karen’s boutique. Before her estranged friend could kick her out, she hands her a letter and promises to never bother her again if after reading it, Karen insists she doesn’t want to see her again. Karen reads the letter and feels sorry for her best friend.

Inés meets Pau at the clinic and lets her know that Nuria is getting married.

Adrián drops clothes for Julieta at the psychiatric hospital. Odette, still adamant to stick to him like an old gum to a shoe sole, insists that they leave without seeing Julieta. Still, Adrián sneaks at peek at her from afar. It makes him feel bad to see his sister like this. Odette prompts him repeatedly to leave. I live for the day Julieta finds out about Odette’s scheming and strangles her with her own hideous fruit loop collars.

Pau waits for René and Alan outside their school. She tells them she loves them and they reply that they too love her and Mau very much. Mónica arrives and doesn’t seem particularly chuffed by the displays of sibling affection. “What are you doing here, Paulina?”

A quote from the capítulo

“Su amor me está matando. Va a terminar destruyéndome a mí, y a todos los que más amo.”*

*Mónica wishes she could purge her life of The Gonz and of his toxic love: “His love is killing me. It will end up destroying me and all those I love most.”

Hiya friends! Hope all is well. Many thanks to Delilah and Pablo for their excellent recaps from Thursday and Friday respectively. Sorry I won't be around much these days. I'm moving cities, house-hunting, moving, all that annoying stuff. Anyhoo, thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the discussion! :)

Nandicta- Thanks for giving us such a fabulous recap, amidst all the things you have going on right now! Best of luck with the move and house hunt.

"I live for the day Julieta finds out about Odette’s scheming and strangles her with her own hideous fruit loop collars." Amen! Me too!!

ITA about Pau playing the martyr, when her child's father could indeed be in her life, if she told him the truth. NOT the same as Monica's situation. And if she spoke to Adrian, she would actually realize that Juli doesn't even have the blackmail documents anymore. There is no way for her to go through with her threats to throw the Gonz in jail (where he belongs).

Great work, Nandicta.

Love the zingers about the fruit loop collars and Skittles outfits. Odette's definitely a Fashion Felon.

If anyone can see that Nuria's put on weight recently she's farther along than even she thinks. I'll bet she will try to say that it's Adrian's baby when the time comes, just to make Paulina miserable.

I hope my instincts were wrong and Ines will be alright. This wedding planning will stress her out big time.

And if anyone has ideas for the catalog for the Murat Hotels gift shops, please send them to me by Thursday night (I've got the Jewelry Department). I'll put together the weekend post for it.

Urban- Off the shoulder, candy-colored peasant blouses, hip-hugger linen pants, and Chiquita Banana hats (fresh fruit included, in case you need a snack on the beach). :)

I like it. How about a whole Carmen Miranda get-up?

Thank you bunches, Vivi and Urban! Loving the fashion disasters' talk! :D

Not sure if I'm playing the game right, Urban, but I suggest the following items for the Murat Hotels gift shops:

- Tropical Fruit-Flavored Condoms. (These people need to stop procreating for a while).
- Starfish-Shaped Rape Alarms (Adrián and Karen need to carry one at all times).
- Souvenir Tequila Shot Glasses That Say: "Sí me entiendes, ¿verdad?".
- "Simona la Mona" Bobbleheads (To offer to the Silvestre in your life).
- Skittles Crazy Sours Jewelry.
- Dr. Gastón Mijares Life Size Cutouts (and a Camilo Fonseca one for me).
- Self-Tanning Lotions In The Shade Peanut Butter.

That's all for now. Thanks again for taking the time to read and comment.

Vivi, thanks for your kind wishes. I forgot to say that I enjoyed the comparison you made between Paulina's and Mónica's situations. Mónica has cut Gonzalo way too much slack and keeps forgiving him over and over again. She wants him to be a father to her children even though he has proven time and again that he is an abysmal dad. On the other hand, Paulina doesn't want Adrián to be a father to her child, even though she knows he would be a wonderful and devoted dad. It's not fair for Pau to say that her baby will have an absent father if the father is kept out of the picture from day one. Adrián didn't abandon her. She abandoned him and is now denying him the right to be a father to his child.

Nandicta: My thoughts on Nuria getting married: LORD HELP US ALL!

Hahahaha! That is so true, Steve! Nuria is a gigantic Me-Me-Me Monster as it is. That's going to multiply to the millionth power with her upcoming wedding! I must admit now that Nuria is not seen tormenting little Mauricio, I actually enjoy watching her character, especially in her interactions with her father and with Leonel. I find her and Leo the most entertaining couple on this show.

Thanks for stopping by, Steve!

Nandicta- I love all of your suggestions for the gift shop! :)

I'll do my beat on photos and try to get this up soon. The upper-end jewelry department will be very special and I'm sure you'll all know why.

I am truly concerned about Ines once she finds out about Monica and the boys.

UA: I agree with you on Ines finding out about Monica & the boys.

Gonzalo just couldn't control his zipper.

Loved the recap Nandicta. The show is movin right along. Paulinas martydom is just
Filler to give the evil people time to plot. Just
Hope the evil sister don't steal her baby, you know how These soaps/tns are. To make it
More dramatic they creat more unnecessary
Drama. I want ad to find out hes gonna be a
Poppa bear. Im sorry for cami, he gonna get
A broken ticker. Odett should go to fashion school and learn how to not dress like a candy queen.
Ok thanks Ms Nan :-D

What might really kill inez is learnin that gonz took the names they would have given their boyz & And gave them to the boyz he had with the chick on the side. Thats gonna hurt and burn.

Nina: I'm hoping that Inez doesn't have a fatal illness because of this.

Thanks, Vivi! I can't wait for Urban's finished Murat Hotels' gift shop catalogue!

Thank you for stopping by, Nina! I wish Pau would stop playing the martyr and act smart. Not only is she giving an opportunity to the evil vitches to plot against her and Adrián, as you pointed out, but she is also leading Camilo on and giving false hopes, and that's not fair!
