Vino el Amor - Episode #28 - Thursday 12/8/2016: The Shirtless Dueling Dudes

Hello everyone! Happy [Belated] Thursday!  This fabulous recap is brought to you by Our Sonia and not Mi Senor's Sonia (thank goodness).

Miguel and Luciana are cute. Miguel is an upstanding guy as far as I’m concerned, a little whiny but an overall good guy. Luci and Mig are at the lab and Luciana is obviously jealous that David is with Grace. Despite the obviousness, Mig still feels the need to ask Luciana if she is jealous. David and Grace come into the lab. David wants Luciana to teach Grace the ropes of the vineyard. Luciana isn’t pleased. Grace is filled with annoying questions and the worst part is the Grace knows it. She wants to know if Luciana could do her job at another vineyard. Luciana makes it clear that she isn’t leaving because the land is important to her. And while Grace wants to “learn” about Luci’s life story, Luciana is more interested in why Graciela came back in the first place. “I came back to be with my family. To protect them.” Grace sneers at Luci. I got goose bumps. Graciela isn’t some I would want to cross. But Luciana holds her own. “Well me too.”

Okay the next scene is…. I don’t know. Both Miguel and David have their shirts off to clean the floor of the wine cellar. Miguel mentions Luciana’s amazing attributes to David. They sure don’t make them like her anymore, right. It’s a shame that it took so long for David to realize how valuable she is. David thinks that  if she wasn’t so damn impulsive she could be successful. However, Miguel thinks it’s one of Luci’s best qualities. Miguel wants to know what Grace is going to do. She’s an artist. Every single time David and Miguel have a scene together it turns into a pissing contest. AND THERE HASN’T BEEN ANY ACTION. MIGUEL ISN’T GETTING ANY, NEITHER IS DAVID. WHY MUST THEY HAVE INTENSE STARE DOWNS EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!

The vineyard life clearly isn’t for Grace as she struggles to walk through the vineyard in high heels. She sure complains a lot for an artist or whatever she claims to be. Luciana tries to get Grace to connect to with the earth but Grace isn’t up for it.

Cesar goes into Juan’s soon-to-be-former office to give him a piece of his mind regarding Susan. Cesar sees Juan for who he truly is and Cesar warns Juan to steer clear of Susan’s divorce. Cesar has kept his mouth shut. Juan wants to be on good terms with him but Cesar doesn’t trust him. He warns him that he will be keeping a close eye on him before he leaves.

The foursome (David, Miguel, Luciana, and Grace) meet up together at the plant.  Grace is quick to pick up on the mating vibes that Miguel is throwing Luciana’s way. David doesn’t look too happy about it. Luciana doesn’t want to discuss her personal life in public. Miguel asks her if it’s because David and Grace are there. Grace is very happy to slyly rub the happy couple in David’s face. Throughout this whole exchange David and Luciana are locking eyes. Grace is very encouraging of this relationship.

Sonia is slowly winning Fer and Bobby’s admiration but Marta is still #1.

Luciana is furious that Miguel had to mention their relationship to Grace but Miguel thinks it is because David was there. Luci tells him he is crazy. She doesn't care what David thinks. But Miguel wants to know why Lucy didn't admit her feelings for him in front of Graciela and David. Luci doesn't feel the need to tell the whole wide world. Miguel needs to know that Luciana really feels for him, but she thinks that as long as he knows what she feels, nothing else should matter. Miguel starts whining about how they fight every time that David is mentioned. But to be fair, Miguel is the one that usually brings David up. Luci isn't having it so she walks away and Miguel chases after her.
Fer and Bobby have some alone time with Marta. Fer asks Marta if she wants a glass of water, but she really just needed an excuse to go downstairs and sneak into Tano’s room. A sleeping Tano is awaken by Fer touching him. He begs her to leave before anybody sees her. You can really tell that he is trying to let her down easy but she can’t take a hint. Just then, Susan walks in and demands to know what Fer is doing there.
Luciana doesn't get very far. Miguel and Luciana both decide they should just get to work. She recognizes that they fight because it's her fault. She doesn't know what she wants and she's scared that she's going to end up hurting Miguel. At this point, it should be pretty clear to Miguel that she has strong feelings for David. He really needs to stop asking her.
Fer says she just came to see how Tano was doing, well how everyone was doing. Susan clearly tells her to stay away from Tano or else she's going to get in trouble, plus they are dating. It seems ridiculous that Susan feels so threatened by a little girl. She should have more confidence. Fer tells the pair that she has a boyfriend named Peter, a super chill guy that she goes to school with. Tano seems to get a tad bit jealous even though he doesn’t let on for too long.
Grace and Lil team up to help Juan. They brainstorm possible solutions that will allow Juan to stay at the vineyard and carry out his revenge plan.
Caro is still hung up on Miguel. And she is livid when she finds out from Miguel that Luciana is back. So, when Luciana walks into the house and confronts her about her feelings for David. She should appreciate Miguel for everything he does for her. The worst part about this is that Luciana knows that Caro is right.
Casa Robles - Fer catches a wiff of her aunt’s new perfume and recognizes it as her mother’s scent. She wants to know why she put it on. Graciela apologizes to her sister’s children but they are rallying against her. Lilian comes to Grace’s defense. She’s sure that Lisa would be glad to see Grace with her children. You know Lillian, I don’t think she would.  Grace wants a word with David. Fer seizes the opportunity to ask her grandmother to help her convince her dad to let her have a boy over.
In the other room, Grace takes the time to intervene on behalf of Juan. She wants to rekindle the old feeling of friendship between him and Juan. We also learn more about Juan’s father. After David’s father kicked Juan’s father out of the vineyard, he was left with nothing. And then he killed himself. Grace asks him if he wants to repeat history. Apparently, David didn’t know that about the suicide part of the story because he looks like he is about to fall into Graciela’s trap.
Miguel and Tano want to put a stop to Juan. Tano doesn’t understand why Susan chose him over Cesar.
Luciana and Marta talk about Luci’s feelings for David. It’s clear to her that they will only be able to be friends because his children come first. To Marta, it's clear Luciana is jealous of Grace, which is silly because after all David was married to her sister.
The next morning, Juan gets his job back. Juan is still bitter about David not partnering with his father. David insists that it was nothing personal, it was just a bad deal. David knows that Juan blames him for his father’s death, but it was never his intention to hurt him. David gives Juan his job back but this time he’s going to answer to Miguel and Susan. Juan is not super on board, but at least he will get to stay.
Susan’s ex, Mark, wants to take  the house away from her. Tano grabs the phone from Susan to let Mark know that Susan isn’t alone in this hot mess of a divorce. By the time that Susan gets the phone back, Mark has already hung up. If that’s the way that Tano wants to resolve her situation, she rather do it alone.

Luciana finds David in the wine cellar. She wants to know if the reason why they can’t be together is because of his children or because of Grace. He answers that he would never use his children as an excuse to not be in a relationship with her.
Juan proposes to Grace and Lillian that they team up. They all list each other peeves and that's enough for them to form a Super Villain Team. they toast to their new alliance. I’m shocked this hasn't happened sooner.
End of super recap by Sonia.
Sorry for the messy formatting. My fault.

[Anita's earlier musings---
While Luciana and David were in the bodega, where he was checking the readiness of the wine, he told her he missed having her there with him and reminded Luci of their kiss and the feelings it provoked in him. Was this appropriate?

Luciana answered with a question. She asked David if they were being kept apart because of his children or Graciela? Luci has talked at length about keeping their relationship strictly business and everything points to her and Miguel being an item (according to Grace's running mouth). Is she admitting to him that she does have feelings for him, beyond business?

So, we got more of the backstory on Juan's resentment and desire for revenge with the David Daddy, Juan Daddy, David and Juan. Sound a little like LQNPA?]

We probably should have put up a discussion page earlier. Apologies.

A lot of stuff went on last night, but for me the highlight was the confrontation in the bodega between Miguel, David, Luci and Grace. Luci was very uncomfortable that Miguel started assuming their relationship was a done deal and for David to back off.

I noticed that Luci kept her eyes on David and he on hers as she talked in generalities.

I'll be doing the recap tonight, so it may not be until tomorrow morning that I get it posted.

Thanks for posting this!

"Was this appropriate?" Well, considering that he is her boss and it's on company time, no... but it was a talk they probably needed to have.

For ME the highlight was Miguel and Dave working without their shirts on. But I'm shallow.

Teehee, Julie--I think all of us red-blooded ladies are a bit shallow in that department. I saw Susanlynn's and your comment at the end of Wednesday's recap. It bears repeating. (There's more if you haven't read it yet.)

Susanlynn said: Hi, Julie. Even though I would choose Miguel over morose downer Dave, I think that Luci will end up with Dave. When Dave and Miguel were shirtless, OLd Dave did win the sixpack competition. Guns.

Julie said: Yes, Dave did win the sixpack contest, with guns. But Miguel could probably get bigger guns too. And Dave's sixpack could disappear after eating just a couple of Twinkies. So I'm not giving Dave an advantage there.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Gracie likes Davey, but Davey likes Luci, But Miggy likes Luci too, But Carry likes Miggy But Lenny likes Carry.

And Seesary likes Susie but Susie likes Tanny, but Furry likes Tanny better, but claims to like Sammy

So Sonny and Gracie and Luci are all crushin on Davey

And Luci and Carrie are crushing on Miggy

With Susie and Ferry crushin on Tanny

Oh Damn I'm gonna put a secret sticker on her locker.

Don't you just love a good murder mystery?

One of the funniest parts on this episode was when Luiciana took Gracie out to the vineyard and had her touching the dirt. She was afraid that a snake would come out and bite her! Oh and Gracie trying to wear those heels out there in the dirt, she was ready to fall down because she isn't used to outside work.

So what was the deal with Miguel and David in the bodega without their shirts? It was quite entertaining for us ladies....

Thanks, Anita!

Ah, David. He's not direct enough with Luci. He just gives her those longing looks, steps into her personal space, then attempts to slo-mo in for some more of those hungry kisses he devoured her with and a few tepid, tentative "I like yous." She's not as confused as she thinks she is: she knows she wants David but she wants him to be more clear, you know "the Latin way." Miguel is very direct but I'm beyond tired of him making declarations of love and essentially begging her every day to be his woman. Luci is just as indirect with him as David is with her but Miguel should have gotten the message loud and clear the way she was so unresponsive and constantly watching David for his reaction to Miguel's publicly marking his territory. Luci needs to tell this guy once and for all that she's only interested in being his friend, and that's it. Trouble is I think she's done that and Miguel won't take "no" for an answer and just keeps dogging and dogging her heels.

Finally though David was sort of direct in telling Gracie not to let that hugging thing happen again as if it's an involuntary, spontaneous thing that happens when Gracie is around. He needs to back her up out of his personal space, look her in the eye, rap her on the nose and firmly exclaim "NO! Get out of my face and get your ti** and hands OFF ME NOW!."

Ah, David. About to have three hands up your backside working you like a dollar store puppet. This is not going to be pretty. I felt good when he was holding firm on firing Juan but after he fell for that guilt trip Gracie laid on him, I think we're in for weeks of David been led around by the nose, or arse! Pity!

The six pack competition was entertaining, makes the mindless task they were performing dissolve in the background. Thanks, Anita, for that cute conversation between Julie and Susanlynn. . .I hadn't seen it. Yah, what a waste of a great six pack on a galan that doesn't have a sixth sense to know when game is being run on him! That's our DUH-veed!

I have never seen an adult checking a kids head for lice in a TN, like Marta did Bobby when she got back. I wondered if that was a dig on Lilli and Sonia, or a dig at us Gringos as he is attending a Calif school. I saw earlier this year in some other TNs some very political stuff thrown in.

I saw that, too and thought it was weird. Was she joking?

Anita, thank you so much for posting this! I enjoyed your savvy insight.

I vote for much more conversation between Luci and David, wherever it might transpire. David is always so solemn. We've been graced with few true smiles except those for his children and of course, after the sweet, soft exploration of Luci's mouth after their kiss.

I'm with Julie and Susanlynn on enjoying the shirtless labor. And our Lila's "Ah, David. About to have three hands up your backside working you like a dollar store puppet. This is not going to be pretty" was awesome.

Cannot wait until tonight's episode and your recap tomorrow.

So why was the "Gun Show" using buckets when garden hoses were invented long ago?

You don't get the bicep flexing action we gals love with water hoses, Kirby! Them boys were bending and sloshing that water out of the buckets: gave the muscles in the chest and torso some good definition, too. Next time they should take it outside so we can see them musk-kuls glistening with sweat in the sun!

;)

FLASH!!! Thursday's recap #28 has just arrived by special messenger (sorry, not FedEx or UPS or USPS, but flew in through Cyberspace). I'll post it now and we can continue to dissect, er discuss this episode.

I know everyone is anxious to talk about Friday's episode, but hey, we have all weekend. At least I can tell you that everyone is "game on" on Friday's Vino, except maybe poor Tano.

Ladies, ladies, ladies. Cheeky monkeys ! All this talk of shirtless guns is giving me the vapors, y'all. All that flexing made me think of a classmate I had that we used to call FLex because he was a gymnast and liked to flex his muscles. (He hated that name, so I try not to call him that at reunions...but, yes, I sometimes do....and he still hates it.)

Anyhow, let the flexing games commence . #winteriscoming.

Pfffttt you girls can have the bucket brigade, I'd rather see a cute hound dog. Now on the other hand, I was impressed that Luci has discovered her LEGS and is now wearing the cutest little shorts lately. Yum.

Gotta jump in on Thursday so thanks Sonia.

"But to be fair, Miguel is the one that usually brings David up"

A cheerleader from 8th grade through university I had my fill of grunting, flexing, testosterone oozing boys trying to impress and why the whole Miguel/David runt ridiculous. Maybe that's why I fell for Mr. tofie, the long haired intellectual with a peace sign earring. Unknown however, under that billowy man blouse, dude was ripped.

Gracias, Sonia.

Let the games begin. Both David and Miguel are good guys but Miguel is winning the battle so far. He has nobody trying to undermine him and Carito is nothing but an annoying little gadfly.

David taking him back was his dumbest act so far. I'm rooting for Miguel.

Susan needs someone more mature who won't fly off the handle the way Tano does. What he did when Mark called was far too impulsive and will not benefit the situation. And Juan should be disbarred for his interference in this.

What in the holy hell is wrong with NOJuan's lips? Does he do that suck into a cup thing popular with teenage girls before every scene or is it botox or something?

I swear when he kisses Perla I always think he is going to stick to her.

Hey thanks Sonia!

If I were a betting person, I'd put down money on Tano and Susan breaking up when they realize they are just utterly, completely wrong for each other, age and maturity-wise.

I am Team Miguel, David is a grump. Both of them can wear tank tops all they want as far as I am concerned. Team Gun Show here!

Just to clarify that David shouldn't have taken Juan back. He needs Miguel no matter where the rivalry over Luciana goes.

Sonia, thank you again for a very enjoyable and perfect recap. Glad I could help out.

dy, what a perfect description of David--Grump. I may have to borrow that for Friday's recap. It's coming soon to a front page near you.

Thank you, Sonia!!!!

I'm team David, grumpy, dim, no game, one-note, whatever you call him, I still want him with Luci.

I love Miguel, good guy, salt of the earth, full-blooded, full-bodied, yah, he dah man but not for Luci. Main thing is Luci can't even dream of Miguel ringing her bell. She's saving those chimes for David. Miguel's going to get the gong!

winter is coming... and..Christmas is coming, so I am casting Dave as The Grinch. Perhaps his sad, cold heart will grow three sizes by the finale after he wins the fair young maiden. Since GS is the seasoned actor and the guy playing Miguel is just beginning his acting career, I am pretty certain DAve will win Luci by the end.

Since Miguel is the worker who is actually doing the heavy lifting in the vineyard, he should not be outgunned by patron. Suspend disbelief. ...jeje must have been working out in his home gym despite his grief and deoression.

I am surprised by MIguel's mad kissing skills since we have been led to believe that he hasn't been practicing those skills since Luci was sent back to Mexico. Natural talent then?

NOJuan is a nasty, pompous, humorless weasel, but a verra handsome , nasty, pompous , humorless weasel with luscious lips. It happens.

P.s. Does the wardrobe department hate Lilian, too?

sonia...great retelling of all the details!

Lila, you have a way with the words, girl. Dave needs to listen to a little Al GReen and BArry WHite. Ooh..HOt CHocolate !! "Every Juan's a Winner."Then, this show will suddenly turn into How DAve GOt HIs GRoove Back.

OT..p.s Lila, have you started book one , or is it "do not open until CHristmas?"

NOJuan is a nasty, pompous, humorless weasel, but a verra handsome , nasty, pompous , humorless weasel with luscious lips. It happens.

Yeah if he were to sneeze I'd bet they would explode. Ja Ja

Thank you Sonia!

I enjoyed every word - well written and great fun.

"Okay the next scene is…. I don’t know" and "She sure complains a lot for an artist or whatever she claims to be" were among my favorites.

"It seems ridiculous that Susan feels so threatened by a little girl". Doesn't it? I was actually embarrassed for the character in taking Fernanda seriously, especially since Tano clearly has eyes for her alone. Susan needs a man to discuss her plight with and with all due respect, Tano doesn't fit the bill. This isn't about what dress to wear to the formal but about reclaiming her house and her life. Far too much for any young man to process, let alone address.

Thank you for filling in all the blanks Sonia (there were many for me). Well, well done!

I have to dash but can't wait to read your recap Anita.

Diana

Sonia, thanks for a really good recap. Storytelling is a natural for you. Great job.
Helen

Hey, Susanlynn. . .it's "do not open until CHristmas?" Yah. But my daughter will be here the week before Christmas, leaving on the 26th so I'll be happily busy. I'll tuck into it after she's gone. I can see myself curled up now with a mug of hot, herbal tea while winter rages outside. Oh yeah, it's gonna be sweet! We're supposed to get our first substantial snow fall starting tonight and running through Monday morning. We'll see. I don't mind when the weather man is wrong this time of year!
